Grandpa gave me a 60' Ranchero in 2003 for my graduation. He was a mechanic so he slipped a mustang II rearend in it and put a 66' Mustang 289 V8 and C4 auto Green Dot transmission in it. I still have it. This makes me want to clean the garage and start working on her again.
I broke my thumb high jumping in high school in ‘69 and had a Hurst shifter in my Chevelle. I took the T-handle to the Dr.’s office with me and he made a cast to fit the handle so I could still drive.
I love watching you guys pull old iron out of back yards and barns and just making them run. I found my own abandoned car in a garage in Muncie, IN. It's a 47 Ford 2 door Deluxe. I just have to decide how to proceed, Gasser, Street Rod or other.
How? The FE is a very wide engine and the shock towers on an early Falcon/Ranchero are very close together. I believe that there was a '64 Falcon commissioned by Ford with a 427 but it required the shock towers to be significantly shaved down and plated to allow room for the headers to fit.
You can put any engine in anything if you try hard enough, just like this project, tube axle/leaf springs and remove the shock towers. My friend bought it for the engine which was removed after a couple weeks of fun and put into a dirt oval race car.@@chrisreed3515
Come on Freiburger! You bought another Chevy engine and you could have gotten a 302 FORD and five speed combo, which are a dime a dozen, and given that classic Henry back it's dignity. Just think of how you disappointed all of us Ford guys out here.
But if they were only planning to do the bare minimum to get it running again, it makes sense to keep it Chevy. It'd be different if they were committed to the car or if it had a Ford engine when they bought it.
My uncle had a green panelvan one of these in Australia. The front ends were notoriously weak. He ended up in a shop one day when the left hand front suspension collapsed 😂
"After the 327 took a dump, the guy put a 307 in it." I suspect it was something he had laying around, 'cause those weren't known for high performance. Those came in some early G-body cars, if I'm not mistaken. ( '78 and '79 Monte Carlo)
I'm a "ford in a ford" guy, but for the amount of effort to customize this vehicle, even i would keep it "era correct" (the old magazines from the 1960's had "how to mouse your ford" how to articles). If that 307 was an H code, i might get it sonic checked to see if it'll go out to 4 inches, but in an LS age, I have to admit 350's are cheap if you're willing to store a $100 example when they come up.
My brothers first car was a 61 ranchero, drove the snot out of the straight 6/3 on the tree till he burned a hole in the piston (overheat due to blown radiator hose on a freeway), then swapped in a 74 Torino wagon 302 2v with a c4 transmission, despite our dad finding a mid 70's emission car and forbidding him to hop it up In that lightweight truck it was F'ing scary. We called it the Pee green special, because whatever the paint was it had faded to a yellowish pee green
My main comment is that it wants aFord Engine. An FE with Trick Flow heads . Call Barry Robotnik I bet he has a stroker that would make it stand on the tail gate.
The previous owner lied to you, the engine you pulled was a 1980's 305, you can tell by the passenger side dipstick and head casting marks. I do love this car with the sbc and all!
The old-timers used to take Pepto bismol and pour in the cylinders and it would break it loose quicker than anything you ever seen in your life we still do it today it works like magic Pepto bismol
In high school had a ‘62 with a 289/C4 that ran 11’s. Now have a ‘62 that looks like this things twin with a 5.0 efi and 5 spd in it. They are super light and will move with not much HP.....
Hi guys glad to see you’re back been missing your videos you too are truly amazing and my favorites, really like your falcon ranchero a friend had one with a original 260 ford v8 pretty rare car wouldnt sell it, that was in the late seventies
Don't draw around the hood hinge. Instead, drill a hole through the hinge and into the hood. When you re-install the hood, use the SAME drill bit through the alignment hole you made earlier. It will be absolutely perfect.
easier removing marker than plugging up a hole, esp. on fibreglass. or if you can find tape that'll stick, lay it across hood and hinge, razor the tape around the hinge, and draw horizontal lines to your content.
Just looking at the engine you guys pulled out, that wasn't a 307. The harmonic balancer is for a newer 305/350 crank. Could even be a 267 used in the late '70's early '80's. My buddy had a 267 in his 1980 Monte Carlo. Also, 307 engines weren't corporate blue. It wasn't easy to see the block casting number, but it definitely was a 1977 thru 1995 type casting number. Also couldn't see if it was a 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal; that would narrow it down even more. Thanks for the videos, looking forward to seeing more!!
We had a ton of these in Australia but were just called a Ford Falcon utility (no 'Ranchero' name). Looked nearly identical, I didn't know the USA had them back then.
David, Snails? Once upon a time there was a fancy French restaurant. Out back, the chef had a garden. In this garden lived a snail. Each & every morning, the chef would come out into the garden & pick only the finest snails for that night’s menu. The snail in our story wanted for all the world to be selected because it would prove that he too was the best. But, morning after morning he was passed by. Finally, this snail had had enough. So, he went downtown to the Cadillac dealership where he bought himself the biggest, longest white Cadillac on the lot. Then, he told the salesman to take it to the service department and have them paint a big red S on both doors. The salesman did as he was instructed & when he delivered the car to the snail he asked what the red S was all about. Well, said the snail, when I drive down the street I want everyone who sees me drive by say ‘Man oh Man, look at that S car go’ !
California cars make me so jealous.Even junkers can be unbolted using just a little "juice".The bed is a little rough but nothing some rust converter and spray in bed liner couldn`t solve.
I had a similar truck like that a long time ago in California back in the 77. I wish I still had it as it was very different than your. I would love to discuss it in more depth of you interested it was very fast and unique
I'd like to know how the elcamino outsold/outlasted the ranchero...because especially the early gen rancheros looked far better. If i could own a daily driver one, that would be awesome.
I am so happy, and I know it's been a while, but... that Dulcich has gotten his new teeth.
A person just isn't happy without their smile. ❤
I feel like he needs to get them treated with some atf
I know
In Australia that ute would be treated with the respect it deserves. Full floors! What a find.
Its not a Ute, we don't have Utes in the US.
@@garycamara9955 they're literally the same thing. we just don't call them utes here.

Any updates on your Ranchero?

You know these two guys are getting paid to do the same stuff they were doing since they were 16. I'm envious

That same car was sold as the Ford XK Falcon ute in Australia. It was the first car ford Manufactured in Australia. This video brings back memories.
A high school friend had an early ranchero with a 427 side oiler... 4' long ladder bars=WHEELIE!

Maybe just maybe it was massaged to fit the 427....
I love these been watching Freiburger for years
Get it back in the Dyno cell boys. I loved watching the three of you discuss numbers that you got the lump to make with a bit of tuning.
Very Cool looking and very LOUD I wish I could have seen more details of it goinng together
Best show on earth!

He is pro Chevy peroid.
@@numlockkilla He has several Jeeps and Mopars. Chevys are cheap and easy and popular for these episodes.
Ford engines are junk
i engine swap the wrong engines into things just to get that sort of reaction. puritsts be damned.
My sentiments exactly! Problem is, DF's a Chevy guy, SD's a Mopar guy. Highly unlikely there's an SBF anywhere in sight.
Love it guys, Can't beat an ole Falcon ute
I'm aware us peasants in Australia can only access this 100 years after the original episode airs, but would be nice to see a Ford Motor back in this.
Exactly mate
Totally agree, 302/5spd is perfect - we don’t get them any sooner in Canada
But if they were only planning to do the bare minimum to get it running again, it makes sense to keep it Chevy. It'd be different if they were committed to the car or if it had a Ford engine when they bought it.
That's an original "decapitation glass" windscreen!! 😮

Chevy made the 307 from 68-73. Oldsmobile made the 307 from 80-90. I think this was an older one since they were referring to it as a Chevy.
Vic Hubbard sticker under the hood for the win!
Thank you gyes. Love that Ford. That is a good looking Ranchero.
Man I love these guys, got the biggest grin at the end!
I'd love to have this car. Perfect mix of cool and Chevy power
Why not just start out with a Chevrolet car? El Camino maybe?

Very interesting 🤔. Really like the little car. Thanks 👍 for sharing.
60 & 61 has always been my favorite..

It's an XM Falcon ute haha. Good to see you guys peeping out from behind the Motortrend paywall
NECESITO ONE RANCHERO 🎉❤😊
I like the San Joaquin Delta Collage decal in the back window. Did you find it near Stockton?
A sweet little Ranchero.
My best friend's father had one he used for a pilot car before he passed away. I'm not sure of the year but it was definitely a Falcon
I watched this on MT months ago. It just NOW came out on YT??
