- A tutorial on painting the iconic windmills of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands. With a limited palette Doris Ettlinger demonstrates how to paint a sky with dramatic clouds, a marshy wetland and light-struck windmills. The video combines realtime narration and time lapse of a demo for the Musconetcong Watercolor Group.
Colors: Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Scarlet, Raw Sienna, Cerulean.
Silver Black Velvet brushes and Escoda Aquario.

Thanks for talking us through the process. Especially the part where you decide to stop working the sky.
Glad you enjoyed the video. This one had more of my real time narration. I tell my students that the three components of watercolor are PLANNING, COURAGE and RESTRAINT. Many artists have trouble with the last bit and end up overworking their painting. Even if you think you’ve made a “mistake” and desperately want to blot it with a tissue, it’s best to leave it and move on. Happy painting! And thanks for subscribing.
LOVE this!!
Thanks, Patti!

Bellissimo!
Gracie mille!
I visited there in April of this year and want to paint some of the pictures that I took. I am having trouble with the grassy area along the canal and this demonstration is very helpful.
I’m so glad the video was a help, Cathey!
