His followup album was better, it had more of a Rock thing going on. If you haven't bought it yet you go to Itunes and buy Someone Else Might Have Gotten It Wrong.
You're quite welcome! I saw that nobody had uploaded all of them into one place so I figured I would do it, with some extra info on the songs themselves and where they play.
Cell Division is based on the Yellow Rose of Texas, and From Protein We Are Formed is based on the Battle Hymn of the Republic, if anyone (like me) could swear they recognize the tunes but couldn't name them!
There are other IRL songs using the same melody as well (“John Brown’s Body”, “Blood on the Risers”, among others). But I think, in-universe, Mordin would probably have heard it as “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, since that seems to be the most well-known version.
"From Protein we are Formed" is based off of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. EDIT: Alright, I am well aware that several songs share the tune including, but not limited to John Brown's Body (of which the Battle Hymn of the Republic is directly derived from), Blood on the Raisers, the EDF Deploys, the War Chant of Mars (all of which I'm almost certain derive from the Battle Hymn of the Republic), and possibly (probably) Solidarity Forever (of which I don't feel inclined to look up at the moment to determine where it sits in relation to the Battle Hymn of the Republic). I used the Battle Hymn of the Republic on account of it being the most recognizable to a modern (1990's - present) American such as myself. The tendency for songs to share tunes is not unique here, I just don't really see the need to specify that "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" also shares a tune with "The ABC song" and "Ah vous dirai-je Maman" or that "The Ants go Marching one by one" also shares a tune with "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"...let alone a potential quagmire like "Over the Hills and Far Away" sharing a tune and name with a dozen other songs with different lyrics.
My Chemistry teacher taught us the elements with the Tom Lehrer song. Just before I left, I also taught HIM Flanders and Swann's "The First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics" and I think he started using that. And my college professor had some song covering the Photosynthetic/ATP cycle to the tune of "Old Lang Syne".
I cry every time I see that scene as well as Thane and Legion's deaths, it doesn't matter how many times I play through the game, the death of my Brothers in Arms always gets me.
What really touches me is his second performance of "I am the very model. Although Mordin was always calm, cold even, during his last moments you can actually hear fear in his voice.
To be fair, we don't actually know where the melody originally came from. The Battle Hymn of the Republic wasn't the first time it was used. "John Brown's Body" predates it, for example. The first known version being "Canaan's Happy Shore". Though it's also likely, that Mordin's sing was based on the Battle Hymn, it is by far the most popular song.
@@jonkersley4986 I'm always surprised when I hear people say that. The first sentence out of Mordin's mouth in 3, I immediately went "they replace the VA of a character whose speech is his signature thing?! WTF!"
The last one always makes me tear up a bit bc it makes me think of the hardships the crew have gone through. Goddamn it Mordin you're making me feel feelings
I think it's even worse than that. I think it's a foreshadow to his death along with others in the pursuit of a greater cause. Weirded still, amazing grace came from the composer's experience where he was in a very deadly, horrible storm at which point he called for gods mercy. He went on to survive that storm inspiring the hymn. He felt so amazingly graced. Mordin sings it but ends it with 'perhaps another time'. They all faced the reapers (a horrible storm). In the end, however, he wasn't graced with life, his time was up, just like Shepard's. 'Perhaps another time' they'll all live (the new main characters in mass effect: andromeda?). Thank you for the feels trip Mordin.
KBABZ Well, sad story i never got to play this DLC since the file was corrupt on my Xbox. Recently, I got it on my computer so I'll get to it soon. In light of this however, (and I thank you for the correction) my analysis stands. We found his song after the fact but like MLK Jr. he foreshadowed his own death (Mordin just didn't write his own eulogy per se, however, Amazing Grace is classically sung at funerals so there's that). Moreover, if you somehow managed to get the game after Citadel, then you could still say this is foreshadowing for Shepard considering he sacrifices himself for 1 of 3 options. So a better way to put this is, Mordin foreshadowed his death but for us it was after the fact, but he also foreshadowed what was to come.
Matt20264 Aw, that sucks! The Citadel DLC I think is the best one. Mordin does in fact think the Tuchanka mission may be "...problematic", so he records various voice clips that STG deliver to Shepard after his/her party is over. Basically everything from Cell Division onwards is on the datapad, in addition to some clips like a Radio Noir clip on Omega and a segment he did on Perry the Pyjak. Definitely worth listening to! The Datapad obviously won't show up if you got Padok Wiks instead, nor if you managed to keep Mordin alive (only possible if Eve is dead and Wreav is the Urdnot leader).
When he sings on Tuchanka, without the background noise, it's almost as if you can hear fear in his voice like he knows what's coming next. EDIT: Him singing Amazing Grace... Man, that brought tears to my eyes.
He absolutely knows that gets about to explode, the edge in his voice is him racing the clock to undo STG's sabotage. When his work is done and his death is seconds away, he smiles and faces it with calm.
fun fact, you can't have him on citadel dlc if you cure the genophage, since the citadel dlc is only aviable after the cerberus coup that is aviable after tuchanka
I didn’t discover the datapad in the citadel dlc until 2020. I’m glad it took me so long to find. It meant more to me especially when I realized that this is the last bit of “new” content I’ll see from the trilogy
+Ellu Ngoko (Yngvildr the Voracious) not entirely, because Asari is a all-female race and they've probably had intercourse with much worse species, possibly rachni, now that's a terrifying thought
I love Mordin's Amazing Grace at the end. It's just so sweet ;_; losing him was heartbreaking in 3. I spent a good deal of time with him in 2 since I found him so delightful to chat with in 2 and his loyalty quest had so many speaking interactions. I felt like I lost a friend. RIP, buddy. I recently re-played the whole trilogy on PC as a Paragon with all DLC included and when Mordin started singing as he died curing the genophage I legit cried. What a GOAT.
I've gotten that every time. Except today when I ran this. I got the "a new beginning....for all of us" And I have to say it fits way better, and hits harder.

Mordin is an interesting character in the series. He once served with the Special Tasks Group for a time, he lead a team which developed the Genophage - wait, no not developed, modified the Genophage is more accurate, he left the STG and opened a clinic on Omega. He was soon recruited by Shepard to fight the Collectors while discovering that his own student was looking to cure the Genophage out of guilt. Data saved, student dealt with and Collectors destroyed, he returned to work. Reapers attack, Turians need Krogan to pull them out of the fire, Krogan need Genophage Cure, Mordin used the data to synthesize a cure with the blood of a cured female Krogan. Whether or not, Shepard warned Wrex, Mordin would suspect that STG would have a trick to prevent the cure release. Even with the Shroud falling apart, he knew that he won't come back, for it's his project, his cure, his responsibility. He had to be the one who would cure the Genophage. Someone else would have gotten it wrong.
nothing makes me cry as much as hearing Mordin's songs at citadel and knowing what'd coming up as well as what everyone has been through and has had to sacrifice....
Amazing Grace... I imagine him singing it shortly after the Genophage was dispersed. Sitting there, with his Carnifex raised to his temple, singing lightly, ready to go into deep sleep that he'd sent so many others. And then, at the final second, he lowered his gun, and became the Mordin Solus I was proud to call my friend.
A few continuity problems with that; the Genophage was dispersed in 710CE, 1,473 years before the events of the first Mass Effect, so humanity wouldn't have been around for Mordin to have known the song, and given that Salarians only live for around 40 years (Mordin says he's in his last decade in ME2) it would have been far too long ago for Mordin to have been alive at the time. However, he could have sung it after updating the Genophage virus.
Unless these have been amended in the last eight years we have (in order) "The Major General's Song" (Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan), "I am the Pirate King" Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan), "The Yellow Rose of Texas" (Texan state song), "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" (American Civil War song), "Amazing Grace"
If anyone wondered if games can be art in the same way as theater, song or novels - I involuntarily choked up at 1:14, from the memory of his death. That still stings, and that is one hell of an accomplishment so many years later.
i love how the Korgan Queen song could absolutely be a 'hero song', where the main character must make a self sacrifical choice. where the Krogan Queen gives up living like a true Krogan, the action, excitment and family structure that defines their people. And instead does the politicial negotionations that no one wants to do. She hates it but it has to be done. Because as the Krogan Queen, it is her responsibilty.
My goodness Mordin! I haven't even met you in-game yet, I've only played mass effect one a bit and the others maybe very briefly, but I think you're already defiantely one of my favourite characters!
Years later i find myself back to these songs by that crazy Salarian scientist and i still finish his last verse for him. still tear up hearing him singing Amazing Grace...

Seriously, I can hardly tell the difference between the two.
If anyone wondered if games can be art in the same way as theater, song or novels - I involuntarily choked up at 1:14, from the memory of his death. That still stings, and that is one hell of an accomplishment so many years later.
Rest In freaking Peace, you were too good for this world.
You can fight like a Krogan or breathe like a Volus, but you'll never sing better than Mordin Solus.
i love how the Korgan Queen song could absolutely be a 'hero song', where the main character must make a self sacrifical choice. where the Krogan Queen gives up living like a true Krogan, the action, excitment and family structure that defines their people. And instead does the politicial negotionations that no one wants to do. She hates it but it has to be done. Because as the Krogan Queen, it is her responsibilty.
1:14 "I am the very model of a..." :'(

He's a pretty good singer, his songs always make me laugh.
Mordin... one of the reason why I'm always replaying the games
My goodness Mordin! I haven't even met you in-game yet, I've only played mass effect one a bit and the others maybe very briefly, but I think you're already defiantely one of my favourite characters!
