    Just realize I said to set the dynamic airflow re-enable setpoint to 8k rpm. It should be set below the disable setpoint which we set to 100 rpm, set the re-nab le to something like 80 or 90 RPM. I don't know for a fact it matters but you are better off with the re-enable less than the disable.

    A Sawatzky brought up a great point, it is a normal issue that the first cell in the High MAF table will have bad data in it unless you actually get high enough to register values in the high table. A way to fix that is to go into your high table filtering settings and use the following function to only allow data to show up that registers over the 5800 hz, to do so paste this in "[50080.50] >5800" and the bad data will go away but still allow you to log properly. It doesn't seem to be an issue on the Low MAF table but could do the same thing only switch the direction of the comparison function to "[50080.50]

    Hey brother, just want to say thank you for your videos. They helped guide the way through this process. The hardest part of this was finding a good place to tune on the street. A lot of times I pulled over to adjust the tune, I would get stared down like I was a suspicious character. It made the task a lot more daunting, but the AEM worked great. Going to keep it on until after winter to see how it handles the cold.

    It's about time someone posted a video on how to do this! Beginners struggle with this.
    I've done a course with the tuning school to learn this. Your information is a little different from what they teach, but theres more then one way to skin a cat.
    So I can't say you're wrong.

      @@GoatRopeGarage it's good to know about adding 1% (X 1.01) across the entire curve. As we all know the LTFT tend to carry onto WOT range.

    Used this today to sort out my CTSV with an LSA after my new fuel pumps changed things a bit.
    Theres a couple things in slightly different tabs, but I kept having big swings the other direction whenever I made changes. Turned out there’s hot fuel pressure, default, normal, low flow and high flow modes and these kept changing fuel pressure. I had to set the normal, default and hot fuel setting to match the low flow mode at 50.8psi and after that my results in the maf error chart were much more predictable.

    Nice vid explaining the process. One thing I have seen when logging on ecm's with 2 maf tables, you need to look out for, is that for example the high freq table will populate the lowest cell even if the freq is lower than the high freq table. Same thing happens if your in high freq table and it will populate the low freq table on the last cell. Not sure if I explain myself. And I think that's why you only got data in the first cell of the high freq table in this vid.

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense as to why there would be data in that lowest cell, good to know! Thanks for commenting! Make sure you're getting data in that top table beyond the first cell to verify its using live data!

    • @askkmb
      @askkmb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I usually like to take the 2nd cell and up and then just interpolate the cell under because usually the lowest cell takes the whole average of the low freq table

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tested adding a filtering function to not allow data when below 5800hz and it cleared up the false data in that first cell. Good catch! I pinned a post to the top of the comments explaining how to do it.

    • @askkmb
      @askkmb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I thought it could be done with filtering but I knew about the issue and I lived with it. I have learned a lot of things from your videos so I'm glad I can be of help to someone

    Hey there, love the content, and its helped me out alot. With my understanding of tuning. Many 'Tuners' at shops try to make you think that tuning your car is some complicate process that requires a doctorate to understand. It does require attention to detail and understanding, but its not as scary as people make it out to be. OK, now the question, you touched on this in the video. How does making a change to the exhaust cause a car to run leaner? I only ask this because I want to get an understanding of how this effects the tune. I don't get how improving the exhaust flow would cause the metered air coming into the engine to be changed. I get that it improves performance, and helps the car run better, but I am not putting together how that change would impact how the MAF sensor calculates incoming air. I just like knowing this information because it will help me out. If you know of a good video or page that describes it, I'll take that also. thanks!

    I am a part time tuner. I only tune my own vehicles and have been listening to all of your tuning videos using HP Tuners. You are very well versed in manipulating the software which is what i was really interested in learning . It took me at least 5 years as a beginner user of EFI Live. I bought HP a few years ago but have never used it. I like the way HP addresses both MAF and VVE tuning on the Gen 4 engines but after having some success with MAFb tuning VVE is out the window. Dealing with graphic peaks and lows is not intuitive the way the tut presented it. I want to use HP. It appears that when you tune the MAF you do not reset the PE at a fixed value should I do that or not?

    If I were tuning a completely stock gen 4 vehicle is MAF tuning necessary and could I just multiply the stock table by the 1.01 or .02 and see what I get on my wideband or would I still do this process to get the extra fueling? BTW I've been watching your videos like crazy and if I get tuning figured out it is 99% because of your dedication to spreading the knowledge man and I really appreciate it!

    A bit puzzled on the wideband use... Is it just assumed that everyone needs an extremely expensive accurate wideband to tune? or if you just use a cheap wideband that still costs more than most cams... They are significantly less accurate than the factory narrow bands unless you are way off (out of range of the narrow band) right? Can you just use the STFT for the error percent, or did I miss something and you need to just drive around with a wire hanging out your window to the wideband until you get this sorted out?

    I decided to try to tune my supercharged 2010 Camaro. After installing the supercharger I had it dyno tuned. Ran and drove great. Since then I added headers and cat delete and figured this would be a good point for me to try to tune it. I watched your videos but im running into issues. every time I start a log my eq err is rich along with reading from my wideband. I drove to get a log and by the time im done with a 10 minute drive to get data the same spots that were rich are now very lean same with my wideband. The engine is up to temp at each start up and commanded eq is constantly at .999. looking at the original stock tune from before I had it dyno tuned to what I started with I see a couple engine diagnostic parameters changed p0101 p0106 p0121 temps are bumped up to 256 degrees. Map high voltage test is set to disable. air flow correlation p0068 rpm is set to 8000rpm. could these be my problem when trying to do MAF tuning? Not sure what direction to go in at this point.

I can understand that with it coming down till like really small fractional changes like to 3% trying to refine it a little bit more using half percentage but what about the ones that are pretty significant that are 810 15% Etc those are the ones that I've always understood to do full percentages on and then come back and do half the closer you get to being as perfect as you can. Thank you for your time and keep putting out great videos

    Greetings, You have a great channel for DIY guys and you do a great job of presenting the information, thanks for that! I have an 06 C6 ls2 Z51, 3.5k ft. alt. in West Texas. It has VR CAI and cat-less exhaust and ported intake manifold. P0171 & P0174 lean fuel codes are set. Are there tuning remedies to prevent these from being set? Regards,

    How would I go about doing this using the narrowband sensors? Just for partial throttle.

    I'm a serious greenie at tuning. I had a 'tuner' start on my '07 Suburban and he is in the wind now so I'm having to learn on the fly. I've got an '07 Suburban with an lc9 5.3l, long tube headers and a generic CAI, no cats, no DOD, no downstream O2's. I added a channel for the MAF sensor and set up the graphs but the channel disappears when I load a log file. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thank you for the great videos. My situation is a little different. I fall into the engine swap category. I have a Lexus LX450 ( Land Cruiser) with a Gen IV 5.3 and 6l80. I have been learning and tuning it for a couple years now. Your videos make the process so much easier. I decided to take a fresh look at my tune and really try to get it dialed in. Can you do something on setting base airflow and idle tuning? My engine is essentially stock ( aluminum 5.3 ,no DOD but VVT) I love the combo and would like a fresh angle on dialing in the idle using just the oxygen sensors.

      Frank, look under the closed loop tab then. If it's not filling in on either then your error parameter isn't working right. Do you have a wideband?

  • @mattnsac

    Injector Tip Temp can screw you up so deal with that too, I kept wondering why trims were Fk'd for a good 10 mins or so then it would go back to normal after a flash and it was that table. Dont overlook it.

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it’s not a bad idea to log it and then let the math sort things out if you don’t want to disable it during tuning. If you give it some time at idle it will correct and not skew your data.

      @@GoatRopeGarage This is going back some years now, but I'd do a MAF log, apply the EQ error, flash and then fire it up and everything was all wrong for a while. If youre expecting to see immediate changes after a flash without dealing with that table, you are going to chase your tail if you dont know what to expect. Took me a day and trips to the hptuners forum to finally figure it out. Its an insideous table that can lead you in the wrong direction if you arent careful.

    I'm doing some fine tuning on my MAF - do you ever get what I would call 'false' lean readings in the high frequencies areas due to the delay between the commanded PE AFR and the slight time delay before that exhaust gets to the wide band sensor? It's only a few steps on the data logger but it does seem to skew the percentages. Any tips as far as timing on the scanner? Right now I am highlighting the areas in the scan after it is synchronized to analyze the data. As always, thanks

    I am new to this and learning to tune. I added a cam, intake, headers etc to my 2012 C6 and was wanting to make sure I am tuning in the right order. Is it MAF, Speed Density then Spark? Are there any other key tuning steps to perform? Also, when I tune the MAF do I use that final file as my base file for Speed Density then that final combined file for spark or do I tune for speed density using the original stock file then the original stock file every step then adjust all the tables at once on a separate stock file when I am done?

    Question. What if a wideband is not available for installation in an optimized location? All of the cars I have tuned DONT have widebands installed at all. I use STFT or STFT+LTFT in closed loop to get the low-speed fueling right. I switch to the wideband for WOT fueling (I keep a WB with me for tuning. Tailpipe mount, unfortunately). What are your feelings on this?

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since you're doing PE it's probably a safe approach, so long as you're watching knock. WoT is when it's critical to use a WB since you're narrowband sensors can't read correctly when that rich and you should have enough exhaust flow at WOT to keep issues from studying from fresh air hitting the sensor.
