I have a L92 escalade with flex fuel. Curious how these steps change or are impacted if I fuel up with e85. Should I just use premium pump fuel and dial that in first or does that not really matter?
It’s amazing how just a tiny kernel of incorrect information can bloom into a major disaster for the right person. Ive been struggling to tune my VVE and went back to basics to try and find out why my corrections are just never changing. I usually give up on tuning the VVE and run Gen4 vehicles in MAF only tune. It’s been manifold switch OPEN, all this time I’ve been doing it wrong and only pasting in manifold closed. Finally read on forums that best to change both open/closed tables.
Newbie question here: Why bother tuning the VE map, or "Virtual VE" map at lower part throttle RPM's like cruise? Isn't the MAF in the drivers seat there and the VE map in those areas really doesnt matter? Thx for the insight.
The VE tables are always effecting fuel, you can disable the MAF and run VE only, but you can't disable VE so it needs to be dialed in, specifically for transient fuel where the MAF sucks at metering air.
If you want those tables to match copy before calculating coefficient. Then calculate. Then paste and calculate in the 2nd. It wont match if you paste after calculating, bc the recalculation will blend it with the 75kpa and higher(using just your example)

I have a question about the long term fuel trims, does the computer store those even though you have effectively erased it an rewritten the tune file and also when we are doing the data logging if we have removed it's ability to trim the fuel will it use the last "stored" fuel trim as the fuel base, in turn giving you information that is out by that percentage? I don't know if I'm making sense Ben
When you're working a config as opposed to a complete rewrite my guess is they can carry over in that situation. But they only apply when you are in closed loop so they shouldn't cause an issue. When in doubt go ahead and clear them before you start that log.
Kinda confused is this after getting a tune in so the car idles or is this fresh, refuring to the log. Also my graph isnt showing any numbers just a blue box that moves around
Great videos. Confused about copy and paste to VVE tables. If you copy and paste percent half to one table and calculate coefficient, then copy and paste that table to other table and calculate coefficient again, wont tables be different? I copied and pasted percent half to each table individually before calculating coefficient. Did find that as a newbie to HP and tuning, initially only modified closed table and that did not affect logging, so my conclusion is that my car (08 G8) works from open valve table or possibly both under different circumstances. Again, great videos and information. Thank you!!!
Make all your edits to the one then calculate it, when you copy it over to second table you will notice that nothing changes when you calculate it because all the values are sane for the formula that calculates the coefficicents.
If I am not using a MAF sensor do I still need to go through the same MAF steps? My truck was tuned before by a shop by speed density and I am having to completely reduce my truck because they corrupted my ECM but the guy helping me was able to pull their tune file off the old ECM before it wouldn't let you access it at all. So it has an IAT sensor on it as well, 3 bar MAP and they put in an O2 sensor on the downpipe up top because they said supposedly it would not read the other 2 O2 sensors. And yes my VVT has been deleted as well as the FPCM.
ive found it easier to switch to a sd os, dial in the ve, then kick the maf back on and dial that in too. itll still use the maf on a an os upgraded to sd. when you put filtered maf triggers and set maf fail numbers back to stock. have you seen any issues with that or tried it ?
Good vids. Thanks for doing them. I'm new with this tuning and I'm having trouble vve tuning. Maf tuning is perfect but when I disable maf for vve the car wont stay idling just cranks and dies. It's a ly6 6.0 engine in a 69 firebird built to a 408 and big cam
@@GoatRopeGarage thanks for the quick reply. I just seen it. The target is set to 900 rpm and the cam lift is 625 intake and exhaust and its 230 something duration. Do I need to go higher with target
@@tonymatlock575 no, that should be good, bump your idle timing up to around 25 in the range you're trying to idle in and then tweak your idle airflow table until it settles down. As much as a can that big can.
@@GoatRopeGarage timing is at 26. Air flow I have messed with maybe not enough though cause it runs great in maf only mode. It starts revs to 1,200 rpm and then when it goes to drop to idle at 900 it just dies but I can keep it running with the pedal and after it warms up it will stay running and restart fine til it sets and cools down then it's back to start and die
@@tonymatlock575 There are engine coolant temp, ECT tables, for idle, if it idle when warm but dies on cold start they need adjusted. Don't forget that in some situations you're actually flowing less air at idle, this why you have less vacuum.
On my 15 camaro on the virtual ve table, manifold switch closed is all zeros. Manifold switch open is filled out like the one in this video. Why is that?
Cars without manifold runner control switch use the Manifold Switch Open table. Goat rope gets this wrong on multiple videos, BUT he makes all tables the same so no matter.

I have some how been logging and making changes using “percent ratio %” as my row axis ... have been making changes like this for about 2 days now and have been getting the truck running decent that way ... what is the difference in using “percent ratio %”(math) & the data right off the MAP sensor for the row axis value ? Does it work the same either way ?
hey, I'm not sure if you are still active on this, but any way I followed everything according to how you set it up on the video and I cannot get the scanner to fill in the graph as I'm logging. the blue goes around and highlights the boxes but doesn't put any values in them. any info on this? My dynamic airflow is set to disable over 100 rpm and reenable is 0. I see on the video that it is set to disable at 4000 and re enable is 3900. Do I need to switch to this? Or does failing the MAF do this automatically?

I just spent the last 2 days diving around, trying to tune the VVE tables. When I went to undo everything at the end I realized that I somehow didn't fail the o2 sensors. They were still at - 40. So was it a waste of time? Or won't it matter since the maf was failed?

I swapped an LS2 into my 2011 silverado 1500 crewcab. Should I go with a dyno tune or would an hp tuner do the job?
Did you do a video of 2 graphs for open and closed? My 2013 5.3 Sierra open and closed tables are different.
No, if the MAF isn't present you will be forced into SD mode.
can you do how to's on ecmlink? for dsm cars. im trying to learn how to learn on that platform, love your videos. real informative,
ive found it easier to switch to a sd os, dial in the ve, then kick the maf back on and dial that in too. itll still use the maf on a an os upgraded to sd. when you put filtered maf triggers and set maf fail numbers back to stock. have you seen any issues with that or tried it ?
Good vids. Thanks for doing them. I'm new with this tuning and I'm having trouble vve tuning. Maf tuning is perfect but when I disable maf for vve the car wont stay idling just cranks and dies. It's a ly6 6.0 engine in a 69 firebird built to a 408 and big cam
Going to need to bump the idle RPM target and then play with the idle airflow to get it dialed in with a big cam. Thanks for watching!
Well I must say another successful video brother. I'd like to add you to FB if I have any questions.
Do you plan on doing Gen V videos?
You have awesome videos, and you are doing a fantastic job!
Keep up this great work 👊😎
I'll for sure do some specific Gen V videos soon! Thanks again for the support!
Keep up with the good videos. Very helpful. 🤙
Thanks for watching!
Goat Rope Garage Your videos are truly helpful I’m just getting started into tuning so this helps a lot. 👌

Any info on gen IV E38 2Bar Custom OS? Using Injectors that max out flow tables?
12:04 If I have a ZL1 with a MAP3 sensor, do I pick the MAP 3bar instead of the general MAP like you did here? I see it moving on the graph when playing but the cells are blank.
thanks
Should be fine with the generic but if you're logging the other you can try it
Im just learning gen 4. Do you not need an afr gauge to tune the ve tables?
Would you recommend SD tuning for idle tuning?would it cause stalling when in drive?
It would be nice to see some of the lwe 4 cylinder vve and vct specific stuff, these seem to be some of the more sophisticated of the gen4 platform
I'm working with a 08 trailblazer with a vortec 4200 inline 6 i think it has the e67 ecm in there if that helps
My dynamic airflow is set to disable over 100 rpm and reenable is 0. I see on the video that it is set to disable at 4000 and re enable is 3900. Do I need to switch to this? Or does failing the MAF do this automatically?
Yep, once the MAF fails you're going to be using the VE table.
If I send u my tune could u help me with it I’m new to all this from 2500 to 4000 rpm at wot it sounds like it has a two step
Question, you said back in the day you used to unplug MAF to make it fail...what years did that apply on?
Early stuff, it depends on if the IAT is in the mail or not
Any platform where the IAT is separated from the MAF signal.
Old video. But if you're still using a MAF, how important is VE tuning?
Do you mess with proportional table or integral delay table when you have headers?
Usually I just try to update the switching voltage instead of messing with the speed in which it tries to make the narrowband sensors switch
@@GoatRopeGarage would it be possible to get a video of you addressing getting cats for gen 4s that get the insufficient switching o2 codes i havent found a lot of info on how people address those 🙏
Thanks for making such great videos. How would you go about SD tuning on a e67 with an engine that has VVT? Park both cams at 0 degrees, adjust the 0-0 table and let the computer adjust for each angle?
Also when would you change the ExhaustCam.IntakeCam table in the VVT tab for VVE coefficients? Thanks!
Just focus on the base table and ignore the cam angle, it'll do fine!
@@GoatRopeGarage thanks for the quick reply, do you ever update the ExhaustCam.IntakeCam table for VVE?
Thank You!!
I just spent the last 2 days diving around, trying to tune the VVE tables. When I went to undo everything at the end I realized that I somehow didn't fail the o2 sensors. They were still at - 40. So was it a waste of time? Or won't it matter since the maf was failed?
Hi. This is propably a stupid question but do i need to accelerate all the time when logging or do i have to do some functions so it wont log when decelerating etc?
You want to vary the pedal and keep it smooth as possible
1 question at 11:18 why eq ratio error and why not afr error?
EQ is consistent no matter what fuel you run
Got you
Goat Rope Garage hey 1 more question so i f i leave the pe on i can get into wot and be able to log error while in wot??
So long as you have a wideband
Is the AEM 30-0300 x series a good wideband. I'm gonna order my hp tuners soon and want to have the wideband already installed.
I've been very happy with it!
Good to hear that you are happy with it. I have cai and exhaust. My next thing is hp tuner. Hopefully in the next month I'll have it. Been stacking parts for my suspension upgrade. Thanks for your videos and your help!
@@GoatRopeGarage how do you run the aem30-0300? AC pressure switch ? I have the mpvi2 and don't want to spend 200$ for pro feature just to log afr

Awesome, hell I get confused doing transients.
gen 4 e40 ecu would be nice
So I added the graph for the EQ ERR but when I run the data log it doesn’t populate data it runs through the cells but doesn’t populate
you need a wide band gauge installed for EQ Error
I have a 2010 camaro with a whipple and ZR1 3 bar map. My hp tuners menus look quite a bit different than yours.
I'll check into it!
@@GoatRopeGarage Awesome, Let me know if you need anything from me.
BigMatt302 ya the gen 4 e38 on the camaro has different tabs but the tables are still there for this tuning
Your won’t have a separate tab for oxygen sensors but the tables are under open closed loop 👍🏼
@@riversedgeservices9160 I figured out what I was doing wrong. I only had the basic view on. I switched it to advanced view and now I can see all of the menus that I was missing.
BigMatt302 ya it’s a huge difference
And also gm corvette have extra also lol
They dont let the little camaro have all the goodies 🏎
Hi , i'm trying to do a speed density tune but having trouble with the pe only coming in at full throttle , is at stoich the rest of the time , pe hot set as standard and i lower the delay rpm to 3000rpm . I have the pe set to 1.180 and is at .82 lambda all the way to rev limiter with wide open throttle 100kpa , at 95kpa it's back at stoich! Bit lost on why , maybe someone has had this problem . Any help would be much appreciated
great vid Kyle! question, Ive got 2007 yukon 5.3 e38 4l60 when i set up to log SD (like u sugested in vid) the trany goes in to limp i think. as it shifts way hard like im gonna grab gears? do u kno of any thing i may try to make it shift softer while tunning (im tuning on the street so to fill up the graph its going to take some driving.however it would be great for the strip though!! LOL) thx for any help
Frank have you messed with the torque management? Just tuning the SD shouldn't cause the tranny to go into limp mode.
@@GoatRopeGarage I have but very minimal when i set up to tune the SD my trac control and antilock light came on. after tuneing for a bit and re configed and set back to run both Maf and SD trac and anitlock went out and it shifted normal?
