One of the things I miss most from when living in the Netherlands (very close to the German and Belgian borders), is the Schnitzel. Wow! I remember from my time in Germany seeing shopping centers just like this in Magdeberg! I have to say that German bread and pastries are far far better than the ones you can get easily in America. You CAN get good stuff here, but you have to look to find excellence, and in Germany you can find wonderful bread and pastries very easily! Thanks for reminding me of the wonderful times I spent in Germany, a truly wonderful country. Auf wiedersehen!
Had this asked by a few Americans that I met over in Western Europe. “How and why are the cashiers allowed to sit”. I thought it was normal. (Eastern europe citizen living in the west.) only place the cashiers stand is behind the information desk when aproaching a customer or an express lane which is usually 6 or less items per customer. They were surprised and so was I.
At Aldi's the cashiers sit. You also pay for the cart and bags and pack your own groceries. Aldi's is a German brand and owned by the same family as Trader Joe's, although Trader Joe's operates differently.
We also had coin type trolleys here in Australia even in the 80s, but for some reason the supermarkets here stoped ysing them. But when Aldi came here in the early 2000s, they brought those trolleys back. Love Aldi by the way!
We stayed in Lutzerath when we first moved to Germany. Oh my goodness, best food on the planet! We’d get the brotchen with butter and I think salami at the bakery for breakfast… so good. They always gave our son who was 3-ish at the time a big hunk of German bologna for free. We stayed at the Hotel Maas. We couldn’t read the menu so the manager said “no problem, I’ll make what Americans like.” Biggest platter I’ve ever seen piled high with potatoes, sausages, peppers, onion. Fantastic.
Mike, I really like your videos, and while in Germany, you bring us a view how things are in another country. You show that you have such a great friendly personality! Keep up the great work 👍 I like how in Germany the tax is already figured in to the price so you know up front what it costs.

From time to time Haribo tests the acceptance of new candies by selling all Haribo bags way cheaper. There are so many fruit gummy, marshmallow stuff, my favorites are juice bears, the gold bears with more fruit, strawberries, cherries, animal shaped marshmallows, wine gums. What I dislike is licorice, so I refrain from Colorado, what offers different candy in a bag.
In Australia the shopping cart wheels are the same except there is always one shopping cart (trolley) that has one wheel that doesn't turn. You always get that one, every time.

I just discovered you this evening and I’m looking forward to all your videos. I haven’t been to Germany since before the wall came down in Berlin. I wish I could’ve tagged along with you on your trip home to Düsseldorf! 😆
@Tagedieb Yes! I do. I had forgotten that one till you just reminded me. 😉
I am missing American burger.
TY Mike for filming your trip for us!❤️❤️
I love Germany! I’ve lived there twice!
First in ‘67-68, and again in ‘74-75. Great memories!
God bless you and your mom, Mike!
I loved it too -- I lived there from 1939-1945. Now I am reincarnated.
@@davemattia There is no reincarnation-only resurrection!
Hello German in Venice- Thank you for sharing Germany with us. Please wish your. sweet Mom a good day from her fans!❤
dude, you crack me up.so low key but funny as hell
Mom seems like a great lady !!!!!!
OK Mike you are just like my son taking shopping 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Everything is cheaper there for sure. Your mom looks happy. Have fun. Hug her bunches. 🤗
I've noticed everywhere else than America. They have the cashiers sitting down. I actually think this is a good idea.
Canadians stand too.
I never noticed until you meantioned it
At Aldi's the cashiers sit. You also pay for the cart and bags and pack your own groceries. Aldi's is a German brand and owned by the same family as Trader Joe's, although Trader Joe's operates differently.
In germany there is aldi North and aldi South bc the two brothers had a Falling out...how is that related to trader joe ?
Canada 🇨🇦 LOVES YOU GERMAN keep bringing the cool news your awesome 👌
Great video to show you shopping with your mother and to learn some German.
We also had coin type trolleys here in Australia even in the 80s, but for some reason the supermarkets here stoped ysing them. But when Aldi came here in the early 2000s, they brought those trolleys back. Love Aldi by the way!
Thank you for sharing your culture and your family with us. Much respect.
Your mom is so adorable. I love how you interact together 🧡
Fantastic.
First time I have seen inside a grocery store in Germany. Thanks for sharing. 😀.. your mom is lovely. Say hi to her.
Hi Mike, thanks for all videos you make, I'm from SFV( Granada Hills).
She is so sweet, im glad you went to visit her 💗
Mike, I really like your videos, and while in Germany, you bring us a view how things are in another country. You show that you have such a great friendly personality! Keep up the great work 👍 I like how in Germany the tax is already figured in to the price so you know up front what it costs.
VAT or Value added tax.
Here’s a random fact. The shirt your mother is wearing is the Alexander McQueen swallow print. McQueen got his inspiration from the Hitchcock film The Birds. “If you didn’t know, now you know” ! 😂
Love your videos. 👏
Awesome, Love Hitchcock as crazy as he was in real life
Really?! My daughter has an amazing dress in that print. Now it makes perfect sense! Thank you.
@@americanmeteoritefan9670 No worries, 100% fact!😊
In recent years there’s been MCQ Swallow print collections. Like all fashion, some are authentic and inauthentic. Love the iconic design. McQueen was a genius.
@@halffastmusician you seem interesting 🧐.
I Love ❤❤ That! Blessings n Peace To You n Family
Your mom seems like such a little sweetheart. Love it.
Thanks for the video . Where from Germany and now live in Australia. Bad move i miss germany
Thank you, German in Venice this is very good that you show price differences very interesting
Hawaii no longer produces commercial pineapple. They grow fresh for tourists and local stores. Maui Gold pineapple is the best! They no longer grow sugar cane either.
A lot of those features we have in grocery stores in Canada. Bag your own, etc. Funny how when I went back to Holland the first place I went to was local grocery store and check out the candy aisle. What we remember the most as kids 😊
A canadian once told me that Canada kinda hates the us habits etc, and that they really try to not be like the US xD
I'm Canadian and food prices have skyrocketed...cheaper to fly to Germany and bring my food back 😄😄
@@niklo322 well that’s totally misleading. We like Americans and enjoy their company. Been to the U.S several times.
Bag your own must be a German thing. You have to bag your own at Aldi as well.
I'ma visit Canada for the famous blueberries but America has the German grocers Aldis & we get a quarter from the shopping kart but all 4 wheels don't rotate only 2
Hello my friend. I was an exchange student in germany and I remember the schoko kusse were called something else too.
You are very funny, and your videos are a lot of fun.
That supermarket is just like Aldi love those lollies and chips have fun in your motherland stay safe regards Clayton 🇦🇺
Those shops are way bigger then Aldi. And much more products to chosse from.
Your obviously a ex pommy as you know well correct you by saying sweets and crisps ( lollies and chips) and incase any American tell me cookies are actually biscuits, and American biscuits are scones lol do miss Mandria though
Such a thoughtful experience to share with us, going shopping with your Mom was wonderful and very inciteful for all the differences we get to see in products. Your Mom obviously wants to feed her son very well during his visit from Venice Beach California USA. Hope you are enjoying Düsseldorf seeing old friends and making good lifelong memories!
It's been a year - but I really appreciate you using the "Umlaut" ü in Düsseldorf - must be some effort to get that in on an american keyboard ;)
I love your mom too!! She's adorable!! 💜🤗. I have always wanted to visit Germany. My father in law was stationed there in the Army, during Vietnam. He said he absolutely loved it, and it blew his mind when he was in a bar, and a kid comes in and gets served a beer. He was like, this is my kinda country! LOL. It is a beautiful country!! Thank you Mike, for taking us along on your trip visiting home. We loved watching all of your videos along your route so far. (Plus all of your other videos) ☺️💜. Take care, and you and your mom stay safe!
Love from Pennsylvania, USA
Hello! New Sub here. I'm in WA State near Seattle. You did a great show here I enjoyed, very much!
You are so funny! Thank you for this content. Super interesting and so delightfully entertaining!
Everything in LA is WAAAAY more expensive than in most parts of the US. Thanks for sharing your trip to Germany.
That was fun. Your mom is sweet. She is buying all this stuff so she can cook for you. She’s excited to have you home.
I love your Mom saving all her money to come see her son! Enjoyed going shopping. Nice store with lots of variety.
cool series. Hope u can do more about Germany tour like this
Thank you ! Danke ! Was very interesting ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve never ate German food or pastries, but I hear they’re good, wish they had German restaurants out here in Texas, or even a pastrie shop. I’m from Los Angeles and I really miss the food out their😏 your Mama is so cute❤️
You should try the german bratwurst !
There’s a few in Fort Worth. Right off Camp Bowie
Lots of Germans in Texas, I bet some of them will also have German restaurants.
Fredericksburg Texas is a German city. Awesome Restaraunts
They have Kubys in Dallas and a Jimmy's whete you can get those foods
It always amazes me on how much stuff costs and different places like Germany thanks for showing me around 😃
OMG GIV..the prices r SOO much cheaper there than here in NC, and it looks SOO much nicer there also, 🤔I wouldnt mind living there in Germany !
If you live in Fayetteville....Do it.
My sister lived there.:))
Food is cheap in Germany even compared to other European countries
Paprika flavored Lays? interesting to see the flavors we dont have here. And the Haribo I usually see maybe 2 options here. you have alot over there
From time to time Haribo tests the acceptance of new candies by selling all Haribo bags way cheaper. There are so many fruit gummy, marshmallow stuff, my favorites are juice bears, the gold bears with more fruit, strawberries, cherries, animal shaped marshmallows, wine gums. What I dislike is licorice, so I refrain from Colorado, what offers different candy in a bag.
Thanks for showing super market of German thanks sir for sharing fr uk
In Australia the shopping cart wheels are the same except there is always one shopping cart (trolley) that has one wheel that doesn't turn. You always get that one, every time.
Same in USA about the frozen wheel 🤦♀️except instead of 4 our buggies only have 2 swivels. 😍 I loved the loud rattling or squeaky ones tho bcz 🐢move outta the way, 🐇 don't cut the corners tight, 🏎️crazy drivers hear me in parking lot 🕊 PEACE 💜 BLESSINGS 👼
One of the best videos you've had so far Mike!👍 Your mom is adorable!😁 Very interesting to see how things are in Germany!
I wish I could visit Germany Mike. My dad and uncles were all stationed there in the late 50s. My dad was an artillery man stationed near Bamberg and my uncle was a tank driver. Tons of slides and photos of Germany and Europe. Beautiful country
Titus Flavius -
Bamberg is a really beautiful place to be, old historic buildings, good beer.
I live only 40km away from there. And your Uncles and Dad knows what "Schlenkerla" is. 😉
wow, you've lost a lot of weight from this one til now Mike! Great stuff :)
Seeing those German snacks brought back memories of when I lived there as a kid. Duplo was my favourite. Loving your German footage.
I love Germany , as a child ,me and my parents used to travel to Bayern almost every summer. Greetings from Poland 😘
You and your Mom are delightful! I laughed all the way through. Now I'm subscribing!
