My Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG has been running a bit rough when cold so I decided to give it a traditional "Italian tune-up" - in other words a good old thrash up the freeway to clear out the pipes. Plus a bottle of fuel system cleaner to help clean things properly!

I believe in Nulon stuff, lve used it in my Benz and a Ford focus l used as a shopping car (no way I'll park the Benz at a supermarket car park)
Added a can of DPF treatment on half a tank of fuel when the engine was sluggish and check engine light came on.
Topped up the fuel (adding treatment and topping up the fuel allowed better mixing) and went for a drive keeping the revs at 2000 rpm for 100 kilometres then 1,500 rpm for return trip.
Ran out the tank of fuel at 1,500 rpm by holding back in a lower gear.
It cleared the DPF in the first 100 kilometres, heaps of black smoke in the rear view, and kept improving performance.
The engine needs to work hard, the treatment builds up temperature in the exhaust system and burns the soot out of the DPF.
I also use Nulon in the Benx regularly, every forth tank and also Diesel Power in every fill up, this keeps the fuel bug away and keeps the injectors clean.
I also use Diesel Power in my cat excavator and truck.
    So, dose this stuff work?
    Bloody oath it works !
A diesel needs clean air, clean cold diesel, and regular quality oil and filter changes and warm up before operating, it will last forever.
I use Nulon synthetic and semi synthetic engine oil in my engines, and after 50 years of earth moving operations and diesel cars I've never needed an engine rebuild.

Use high octane fuel, doubble amount of fuel cleaner with half a tank and them go on the freeway in two lower gears (min 3.5000rpm) and keep there for at least 15 minutes to let the engine heat up. After that you can do some medium/hard acceleration. It's all about getting into the engine. These German cars are torture tested to go full speed for a very long time. Unfortunately they were (before) not so good with what problem could occur after a lot of short drives.

I had similar issues with my 7 series. It was sitting for about 5 years before I bought it. I had used house supercheap auto injector cleaner and fuel treatment. And it worked a charm. I did double up however and drove like mad for the week. Being a port injection car doing what you did should fix the problem. However if it does not then I would advise changing all the injectors and not just one. Hope this helps

You don’t need to speed for an Italian tune up.
Just go on the motorway in 2nd or 3rd gear, it’s all about the revs being high, not the speed as such. I did one today in my BMW, 2nd gear at 70mph for 10 mins, it was just below redline.
Oh and I had good fuel in, a bottle of fuel line cleaner and a bottle of injector cleaner.

Hi ,you should check che coils they are common issue on this engine and when they are demount carless from the workshop (in your case for sparkplugs change) they may break inside just from the removal ,there are many videos about them in yt it usualy missfires on 1 or 2 cillinders with the engine check light, you can also check the rubber sealents around the sparkplugs they crack and cause missfire with no error i have the same issue after sparkplugs replaced i fix only the problem cilinder with coil repair kit from ebay.

The additive's work. But you need a cleaner with a high PEA rating. Also check out BASF Keropur G, the only additive sold by part number by Mercedes and other manufacturerers. Also hook up star and check the smooth engine running values, it will highlight the offending cylinder.

Curious - im in New Zealand with an S600 so never seen any TH-cam advice about local / similar products like NULON - cool.

My impression is that mercedes only approves of techron fuel additive. I usually do two tank treatments after an oil change to keep things fresh. I also pour additive with the gas to ensure proper mix. The italian tune up does work. Personally I push my AMGs during my daily drive, every day is italian tune up day. These engines are programmed for high output, gotta let them breathe every once in a while. Peace

is it gdi? Curious if italian tune up works. Without using anything other than plain regular gasoline/petrol (no separate fuel additives added).

My SAAB 9-3 2.0T was having trouble staying running on cold starts a few years back. I did the basics - took it in for an oil change, cleaned the battery terminals and contacts, replaced the CSP sensor, and even dumped a full can or Seafoam in the gas tank. Nothing really worked. Then I saw a sale on Techron Fuel System Cleaner at my local auto parts store. The running issue was fixed almost immediately afterward putting that in the gas tank.
Since then, I've put a tune on the ECM, upgraded the spark plugs to Denso TT, only run it on 93 octane, and use octane booster with every tank. She purrs at idle and goes like cheetah on the highway, even in 6th gear 💪🐆💥

I add Lucas Oil Upper Cylinder and Injector cleaner every fill-up (CL55 AMG) .. Car runs like a top, idles smooth. Don't be discouraged if one road trip didn't fix your problem... Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 fill-ups to get full benefit.

Hey my Australian auto cousin , there's a car that I didn't know you had . If there is any car Id trade my SL for it's this , what a car it's crazy . About the fuel additives it's hard to say if they work , I find if I have a real carbon build up it has to be cleaned . But it's not a bad idea to do what you did and rev the car higher . But I'm loosing faith in additives . How did this work ??? Thank's

Used to live in Aussie. Worst place in the world for owning a powerful car. Speeding = gallows. No opportunity to go wide open throttle or "flat to the boards", which is what EVERY car needs regularly. Stop and go traffic will kill your car, especially that TTV12. Recommendation? Once every 1-2 months book time at a track or take a short trip to the "Outback" and open it up. Good luck Mate!
Really been enjoying your videos. I own a 2011 ML350 Bluetec diesel. Superb engineering. SL55 and S550 coming up as next purchases.
I also have recommendations for fuel and oil and transmission additives. Like to email you directly. What is your address?

Its not the dirt in the injector , i took my Injectors out , and took them to the shop and professionally cleaned them , and still same as yours hiccups , stuttering , hesitation , only first 5 minutes , until it worms up , no codes no check engine light , everything working normally and still ... So i changed sparks , cleaned injectors , cleaned the valves , chains , all of it .... No help .
Then i got angry , just filled it up with petrol , got to the highway , and drove in 3ed gear at 4000 RPM until i got satisfied ,,, and guess what , now it works .
So ... dont know what it is , all i know its not injectors , those have been cleaned and it didn't help .
Its general Engine clog up from driving it slow , for extended period of time .
These engines save fuel , and work lean a lot , and get dirty . So you make it work a bit and it cleans it self out . Whatever it is what was dirty .
