- James Mtume (born James Foreman) was a jazz percusionist who was a regular member of Miles Davis' touring & recording group from 1971 through 1975 and an occasional band leader in his own right. Alkebu-Lan is the first album to appear under his own name. (Source: ajbenjamin2beta...)
Taken from "Alkebu-Lan (Land of The Blacks) Live at East" (1972) an avant-jazz masterpiece recorded August 29, 1971 in Brooklyn N.Y. and featuring Mtume, Carlos Garnett, Leroy Jenkins, Ndugu, Gary Bartz, Stanley Cowell, Andy Bey, Joe Lee Wilson and Buster Williams.
