Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS)

Although the Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) program has been underway for several months now, today we are proud to finally introduce it to our community members.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service has always had a strong and positive working relationship with the City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services as our Officers work collaboratively with Paramedics on a daily basis.
This program takes our combined efforts one step further, ensuring a collaborative response during high-risk police incidents.
The members of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit are our Service’s most highly trained Officers with a very wide skillset including Rappel, Explosive Disposal, Sniper, Hostage Negotiation, Reconnaissance, Search and Rescue, High-risk Vehicle Stops and the execution or High-risk Search Warrants. These incidents not only pose a high-risk to Community Safety, but also to Officer Safety. The Tactical Paramedic Unit ensures that there is immediate medical assistance available to all of the individuals involved or impacted by these high-risk situations.
The ultimate goal of the Emergency Response Unit is to peacefully resolve these situations with the least amount of force, however, we know that in extenuating circumstances there is a potential for injury.
The Tactical Paramedics will be able to provide immediate medical attention and at times life-saving measures to anyone that is injured during these incidents, including Officers, Canines, victims and suspects.
Over the past year, the Tactical Paramedics have been integrated into numerous Emergency Response Unit training opportunities and calls for service.
We are very excited about this new collaborative approach to community safety and we look forward to an ongoing team approach to high-risk police incidents for years to come.
