The Emergency Response Team is a group of highly trained RCMP members capable of employing specialized weapons, equipment, and tactics to resolve extremely high-risk situations. For the first time cameras have been allowed to record some of these tactical procedures and scenarios. From boarding vessels in the Pacific Ocean at high speeds to rescue operations for a hostage in a remote part of Manitoba, this is a glimpse into what ERT does on a daily basis.

This makes me proud of the RCMP! I face palm whenever people confuse the ERT with SWATT teams.
ERT is a SWAT team, they mention this in the video. Everyone likes to have their own special name for their team to make them unique or whatever, but at the end of the day, it's a special highly trained tactical team that is run by a law enforcement agency, called in when normal cops' training isn't enough. If you get mad when people call them a SWAT team, then you are the problem

Why militarize police. We are not America ..
Because it is necessary to be prepared, they are not called into normal situations regular police can handle. They are a last resort when regular police fail. I don't know about you, but if someone is holding hostages or threatening to blow up millions, I want a specialized police unit that is able to protect us and diffuse the situation.
