I think most people get wrong the argument about difficulty, it is not about being too hard, it is about being fun hard. The actual problem is that a lot of bosses are designed to go against the instincts of the players, for example very slow attacks are implemented, input reading, long combos that don't allow regrouping, and this is done because the veteran players would quickly get used to the bosses and will not struggle. So I would say that the actual problem is that killing bosses does not feel fun and satisfying, as it was done for example in Sekiro.

Halfway through the DLC, so far the only nice bossfight was Rellana, everything else is just cancer AOE spam with camera issues

After rellana I instantly understood what was going on never struggled for too long and adapted quite quickly so j had fun idk what you mean meanwhile with sekiro I hate it 😂 last j played I beat genichiro and as soon as sote trailer came out I was done with the game 😂

I 100 percent agree and I feel like the game is wholly balanced around summons and many of these bosses need you to summon where as in ds1 -3 it was an option which could make it slightly easier but not skew the fight so much

I've jumped in on a LVL80ish char i've quickly made, because i've sold my PS4 copy and bought the bundle on PC just before the DLC. Severely unfinnished, unrefined weak character i've managed to bump to insane level of power just in the DLC, even though it was real tough at first. Finnished the whole thing with the fantastic Milady, which i've upgraded to max with all the smithing stones, crazy cookbook recipes, and all the new gear i could find in the DLC. It was a fantastic journey, mostly because i felt the urge to explore, experiment, and get stronger along the way.
Most people jumped in with their minmaxed high lvl chars, and were pretty dissapointed with the exploration rewards, because smithing stones and all that jazz were just useless for them, and they expected to just steamroll the bosses for some reason. I guess it all comes down to the perspective of the player, and what character you choose to play with for the first time.

The dlc isnt really all that hard once you get more scadu and revered fragments, that and difficulty scales with level so you could be max level and it will be just as difficult

    • @TheMageAcademy

I finished the dlc in a week with only a few hours of play. I used bleed and scarlet rot to end it.
What I realized is this. When you use damage buffs like jellyfish shield, rot exultation, flame grant me strength, golden vow etc etc etc
    The game becomes so easy.
People complain because they do no research.
But after watching a few TH-cam videos of people one shotting the dlc bosses I've retired the game after realizing it's too easy.

@@stillsolo these mechanics weren't huge in dark souls 1. Like bleed was a thing but it wasn't this crazy thing that it is in Elden ring

I don't understand all the people trying to pretend this is so much different from other souls games in the past. The dlc is what I expected, only better. It's where the difficulty gets real, and where the best bosses are. I've been playing since demon's souls, and I feel like the difference with past games is highly exaggerated. A lot of it seems so disingenuous too, acting like sekiro or past dlc is all accessible and has an even and perfectly gradual learning curve, get out of here! Thanks for giving some push back against these narratives, which are really nothing more than people wanting their very subjective opinion to be fact, and needing it to be the games fault when they can't enjoy it. For the record: yes there are openings, sometimes even during combos, no the game does not input read, yes you need to pay attention because the game does react to you, yes the patterns can be learned, yes past games had big attacks with slow windup and moves designed to mess with your timing and punish panicking, yes these complaints have also been made about the same game you're using as an example of how it should be, yes the bosses make you respect them, just like all the other big dlc bosses in the past, yes roll timings can be janky due to sprint being the same button, just like every other souls game, and if you didn't know it yet, jump attacks are awesome, sometimes jumping is better than rolling!

This is nothing like other souls games, I've never had significant problems with any souls game or dlc nor did i have to guess between 50 hit combos/bosses moving out of range every 2 seconds/1 to 2 hit kill A.O.E attacks. None of this feels fun damn at all watching every boss zip around the arena with infinite attack strings and aoes was never how souls bosses operated

@@dakarai47 this is so strange to me, take messmer, he has one somewhat longer combo, the ash of war, but it's easy to dodge. In his regular combo if he swipes mid combo then he'll do a slow stab, otherwise he'll usually end with the fast swipe, he also has the slow swipe stab two hit which he does regularly, the jump spear throw is probably his easiest (big punish after dodge), all these lead to openings and if you dodge in, he'll never be too far away. In his second fase you just need to get used to the snakes, but their timing is super consistent so that helps, he'll add the twirly attack to his regular combo but you can actually punish that during the combo. His other timings all carry over. Add to this the fact that you have 14 estus and you don't need to no hit, you can sometimes get a bit greedy and punish more, risking some trades, which is fine. And equip the two defensive talismans, physical and fire, they are a massive help in terms of survivability. Really in the ds3 dlc alone, Friede and Midir both gave me A LOT more trouble back in the day. And many past dlc bosses hit just as hard in my case, I do also have 60 vigor and always use defensive talismans, that might not be the case for everyone. But Midir would delete my health in just a few hits as well. When I think of bosses like Kalameet, Ludwig, Midir, ... I remember how brutal it was, and how these ones definitely don't feel any different to me, except that to me they're more awesome (not all of them off course, but all souls games have bosses I don't like).

@@stillsolo rereading my comment I do come off more zealous then I'd like, but I've just seen so many comments and videos, I just needed to vent a bit, again thanks for contributing to this in a positive way. The dlc is so awesome, and it seems to be under such extreme scrutiny, I do really feel like a lot of it, is at least a little unfair. But I better stop commenting, because writing walls is text on TH-cam is probably not really helping anyone! :p
