    Paint stripper is the best thing to do this with. It took the paint off of my Zippo within 15 minutes.

    I had a red logo matte finish lighter. I've stripped the paint similarly using acetone, but mine turned out different. Mine looks more like an old 40s full nickel finish now, or an antique silver that has been polished now and doesn't have the brass look. I'm planning to electroplate with nickel and then copper to give it more of a bulk and mirror finish.

    If you want to keep it high polish use a couple coats of car wax or wait untill your shade of tarnish then car wax !!!

    Nice man, the brass lighters are always more expensive than the

      @@comradetman3784 I'm confused, couldn't you just buy a high polish or brushed brass zippo instead of doing this since they're all made of brass? I'm just getting into zippos but the way I understand it is they're all made out of brass.

    What's the best way to paint a zippo with metallic copper paint? Should I start with a plain chrome lighter?

    • @Zippofanatic77outdoors
      @Zippofanatic77outdoors ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that will work. But just remember painting any metal will require a clear coat.

    I tried this with a black matte zippo and interestingly enough what came out of that finish is a tumbled brass and not a high polish. I wonder if they changed something in the production chain in 2021 (mine was D 21) or if they just coat every kind of brass zippos when stock needs it

      @K D If you enjoy the look keep it as it is. A well worn zippo is one that has been well loved (as long as it still works). If you aren't a fan though stripping it to brass gives you something that looks great and is easier to keep looking good if that's what you like

    • @modelotime1663
      @modelotime1663 ปีที่แล้ว

      you have to use the matte back zippo with the zippo on the bottom right corner and you will get these awesome results

    Can confirm this will not remove the coating. Neither will boiling in water with baking soda (supposed to work says the internet). Ive tried both to my brass armor. Nada. Good content bro 👌

      Dude this is removing matte finish with acetone , it does work , I’ve never tried removing the clear protective coating in a brass armor with it , you let it soak 8-14 hours in acetone , the matte finish one and then it peels off ,

    • @high_on_nightmares

      @@comradetman3784 i knew you did it to remove the matte finish bro. I just meant that it won't remove the lacquer coating from my own experiment. The internet said it would. The internet lies.

      @@high_on_nightmares yeah , if there’s a shiny lacquer finish on your zippo it won’t remove it like it won’t remove candy apple red finish , but it removes matte , that’s all I’ve tried

    • @Eagle1349
      @Eagle1349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It worked for me, I noticed if the lighter is a matte finish you have to scrape off the finish after soaking for 24 hours. If you are using a Crackle finish, the finish will bubble up and is easily peeled off. I prefer the Crackle finish versus the matte finish for this project!

      Armor is tough it seems built different. Maybe it's bc its chrome but I dropped.mine like a donut but not a scratch
      Its chrome plated brass armor

  • @Nuncles

    Just an FYI. I did this to a slim dated Feb of 21 and it was the tumbled brass finish underneath. I'm wondering if Zippo just takes what they have an overabundance of, and use those for the matte finish.

    Is that a chrome zippo you start with or polished brass zippo? Absolutely can't tell by the colour. Sometimes looks silver like chrome, sometimes looks golden towards brass in your light.

    Thanks for the video.
    I bought two cheap Zippos to strip.
    One navy blue and one red with "power to the people" written on it.
    The Blue one was tumbled brass underneath the paint. The red one was brushed chrome or Street chrome.
