If cigs make you wanna spit all the time, it means they're not really for you; the body's the accepting them. Had the same effect on me (the reason I quit). It's a sign of a very high quality/premium tobacco that doesn't make you wanna spit when you smoke it.

It's been years since I smoked them (or any cigarettes at all, for that matter); I still crave this brand every once in a while. The best cigarettes for a on-and-off smoker.

I have my uncles zippo, it's a polished chrome made in 1989. Heavily used and has some good wear on it. With the help of your videos I realigned the hinge and fixed the worn cam spring. It now functions as well as the day it's bought. He isn't around anymore but I'm glad I have the zippo as a memory. He probably lit over 200.000 cigarettes with it in in the 35 years he had it 😅

"They" (which would be the state legislature) raised the smoking age to 21 in an effort to try, or at least pretend to try, to keep kids and young adults from smoking, as smoking is legitimately a health issue (no judgement). I guarantee you, Philip Morris did not lobby for this law to "be able to send more product overseas." Philip Morris's interests overseas are not remotely bound by how much product is sold here, and as a business, would want to maximize product in every region it can. Further, shipping is a cost to a business, not a profit center. Making a product more expensive to cover shipping does not positively impact a business. Philip Morris lobbied for the law as a stay to prevent further, tougher anti-smoking legislation; it was a puff piece they supported to create an image of responsibility, specifically aimed at reducing further legislative action that would regulate them further. As for why Zippos are getting more expensive? Same reason lots of collectibles are: watches, LEGOs, Zippos, and old video games are all getting more expensive because Millennials are getting older, have more money, and want to collect cool stuff as a distraction from the craziness of the post covid world. Hell, I have six Zippos and I don't even smoke.

Your right about the silver wearing down after time. I’ve got a silver armour that’s an edc with a double jet flame in it and I’ve also got a handmade silver zippo that’s over 3 ounces with an arc plasma insert. The cam spring was starting to wear a groove in the lid so I had to stop using it. I’m gutted about that because it’ll only ever be an ornament. The zippo armour is easily scratched but zippos should look lived in. I don’t put it in the same pocket as coins or keys.

The little nubbins that put tension on the top are easy to fix, you need to bend their very ends inwards a little for better grip and "tighten" them (evenly bend them so the ends are closer together). To fix the flint problem, I shove in two flints at a time, also lasts longer. You can cannibalize flints from normal bic/whatever cheap plastic lighters if you're in need, probably even cheaper than zippo flints but works in a pinch. I fixed up a beat up pre1990 Streamline 6800 and works really well for the fact it has a frankenstein flint spring from 3 disposable lighters, the afformentioned nubbin fix, a wooden carved flint piston I did on a whim, another non original spring and a missing back cover flap for the wheel. Took some time to tune it up so everything is nice and snappy but I consumed a whole cricket flint over the day just playing with it and the nubbins didn't snap off, throws good sparks and feels nice except for the rust. The nubbin problem is really common, they probably didn't tension the lighter right at the factory or if they're used they probably just got overused, I made sure to lap the surfaces together (nubbin and hole) with some 2000ish grit lapping paste and they have yet to fail on me. Gonne order proper flints and some lighter fluid.

A silver one can be buffed back to new again by a jeweler with the right buffing machine and polish compound. A chrome plated one can't. I wish I had a nickel for every piece of jewelry I refurbished on my job over 25 years.
