What’s your favourite hinge for edc ?
Four barrel hinge from 1941 replica for me personally.
@@zvonkobasarac7634 agreed
Agree with you that the 41 is the best, do you have instagram or email? I want to ask you something about zippo, thank you. By the way i am your fans from indonesia, i always watch your video from the old channel until this channel. I hope you reply this message. Love from indonesia🇮🇩
@@nandaputera6788 zippo 41 replica MMG terbaik ya kukuh dan tebal 🔥®️🇺🇸
Obviously 1960s it not weak like those new hinge if ito loss you can change another bigger shaft
The replacement hinge used for repairs, or the 4 barrel 41 hinge are my top 2 current zippo hinges. The regular production hinge now would be better too if the roll pin they use for repairs were installed initially too. The dream is always an armored 41 or armor with a beefy 4 barrel.
Yeah I hear ya. One day buds. One day
Just got one of my Zippos back from repair. The new hinge they installed is a five barrel and it's tight like yours from the 60s.
At first it bothered me, because I'm used to looser hinges. But after seeing this video it seems that tight hinges could be preferable to some.
Yeah they used to come tight like that. The good old days
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors
I tried opening and closing the lid multiple times to loosen them up, but now I've decided to just embrace them.
Go the 4 barrels. That was an informative video.
Thanks Mark. Yeah best hinge if u ask me
My buddy gave me one he found from the 90's and the hinge is way beefier then the new ones.
It got a Niagara falls insert in it👍
Nice man. Yeah early to mid 90’s the last good years.
2000s is the start of the bad zippo hinge
I use 41 replica black crackle for edc. But I just received a 41 brushed brass today. So I will switch between those two.
Your gonna love that brass 41. My top edc. I gotta get a new one
Super informative video, thank you!
Anytime!
Thank you soo much for this video! I wanted to buy a zippo but wanted a durable piece. Too bad armor zippos don't have a more durable hinge.
Thanks Playo. But don’t think if u get an armor your hinge is gonna be weak. With normal use it will be just as durable as any other zippo. I broke mine from extreme tricking lol. It won’t hold up to abuse like the 4 barrel. But if u just always use it like a normal zippo u will he fine. Armor is still my fav edc
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Oh lol, Alright! Thank you again! I loved the armor retro star design.
@@playo9197 that’s a very nice one. Did u see the national anthem armor. Another beauty
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Oh yeah, pretty sweet engravings and with high polish.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I gotta find a video on how they do that O_o
Thanks to my intuition... you always speak enthusiastic *begeistert* about the 1941 replica (in more than one vid ;) and I wanted a black crackle anyway, so I ordered the black crackle 41 replica, and there you say, thats the best modern version I'm looking forward to mine...
Yeah 41 is my favourite u are gonna enjoy it.
Nice educational as always
lol I try my best good sir
I have an 89 with a decently beefy hinge, pretty sturdy feeling. I definitely need a 41 in my life haha.
Haha they are a fair price. I see one in your near future.
The problem for me is not with the pins, but with the welds. I must have 8 lighters here that all had the welds come loose (never got around to sending them in for repair). I've even got one that I'm guessing is from the sixties era because it has a missile defense or missile command emblem of some kind on it.
Hey Gary. I’ve had a few in my day too with the faulty welds. I don’t know if the new ones are better or just havent used long enough to fall off lol
41 the best looks good + u can get them everywhere just hope they will come with pat number again
I know right I hate that they took that away
Fr I miss the pat number I don't have one :(
I now carry a STEEL case 41 replica 75th Anniversary ww2 zippo from 2020 i know its "collectible" but i carry it great zippo i loosened the hinge then i changed how far out the hinge goes just enough that i can get it out but it doesnt fall out because i dont like the plier methos of hinge fixing when the lids are together so unlike most 41 replicas i can take the pin out
That is a very nice lighter !
I definitely agree late 50s and 60s hinges are the best.
Best 5 barrel for sure
My favorite edc hinges are the 35 and 41 hinges they are both bigger
Yeah 41 is the best. Imo anyways.
@Zippofanatic77outdoors yeah def I made an inside 3 barrel 41 replica :) btw I really like all of the zippos you showed in this video especially the vintage ones
you are a nice hinge zf
I'd really like to see that tightening a 4 barrel hinge video. Your fixing a 5 barrel sure has made a world of difference in my Zippos.
Also curious how a 3 barrel hinge compares to a 4...
Well the inside 3 barrel zippo made for a while was pretty good. But moved to 4 barrel inside hinge only 3 years later. They are good. But not as good as a 4
I like the triangle loss proof Zippo add some Paracord tied to your belt you will not loose your lighter !!! I must make one or two !
Thanks, I will try to make 4 barrel for my self made casing...
Oh nice what did u make a case out of
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I plan make it out of 999 silver, just because I like it and I have it. And Sterling Zippos cost a lot here in Central Europe. I have seen 3 basic ways how to do it so far. Out of sheet, casting or milling. As for now, casting is the way for me (including hinge). I didn't know, that designing and making a hinge is such complicated task. I am watching all videos about zippos, hinges, materials, pins, rivets, repairs, replacements... As silver is heavy, slim Zippo may be better for carrying. As soon as I have it, I will post pictures, may be short video... I am entering phase 3 of the project... (Phase 1 - so easy, I will do it in short time. Phase 2 - so complicated, I can't do it at all. Phase 3 - I will try to do it, just needs praparation and a lot of work... 🙂
@@frantiseklaluch6605 oh your making it out of silver that’s cool. I was thinking about making my own silver zippo. I was gonna just make it out square sheets of silver. Folding and soldering I seen a guy do that. Looked like the fastest way. Casting and milling take a ton of time. I also wanted to do a solid silver insert. U can take a regular zippo insert and unfold it. And cut out the template out of a silver sheet also. Def post a video and let me know when u do. I would like to see that
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors OK thanks.. 😃
I got a sweet deal on an original black crackle in a lot of 27 lighter but then the seller canceled the order 😢
If I'm not mistaken didn't you take a modern day zippo and put a 4 barrel hinge on it? I think I remember a watching that on your old channel.
Yes I have it put away though. It’s original video is about to break a million views so I have a special video planned for it soon with a special custom.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors So cool
Friend, hello. I want to ask you some questions regarding my Zippo, sorry if these are dumb questions. I purchased a November 1987 Zippo (my first zippo ever) a week ago and I screwed around with it a bit. The Zippo has an overbite and I tried to fix it by the needle nosed pliers, squeezing them and push the hinges backwards and I tried to push the lid back to realign with the body but those didn't do anything so I gave up but now I am curious if those methods damaged the hinge barrels. I also pressured the outer barrels inwards with pliers from sides (?) because I felt the hinge was very loose, turns out it wasn't. I wasn't so rough to hinge barrels, maybe middle. Y'know, Zippo feels normal but do you think there would be any damage? Are scratches on hinge barrels normal? Do the pliers scratch the hinge barrels? Also does snapping shut the Zippo cause any damage to body? Thanks for any inconvenience.
Should be good bro. Yeah pliers scratch the barrels. Just put tape on them next time. Send it to zippo if it breaks off. They will fix it and give u a new insert.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Much appreciated. Have a nice day and good work with the channel. Keep up the content!
@@rudericus thanks buds !
Have you heard anything/have any experience with any of the woodchuck collaboration lighters?
No experience but my buddy zippo daily fix has them and says it’s just a thin wood style vinyl sticker basically. Very thin and disappointing. For him and a few others on the channel.
I only collect vintage Zippo lighters. The new ones just feel so cheap.
Ik right I have many modern ones and some old ones your definitely right :/ I wish they were made the same but for modern ones I def recommend 35 3 barrel hinge and 41 4 barrel hinge
Sucks that the 35 hinge is garbage, it looks the coolest imo
Bro. It’s still gonna hold
Up fine for u and be a great hinge. Trust me if u like it get it. U won’t regret. I Didnt mean to put the 35 in negative light. This is a video of the strongest hinges of the available hinges.
Yeah, love the 35, but I have one and can attest that I would not be confident with heavy use on that hinge.
@@kismitscorner yeah, I’ll probably just collect and display them, not as a edc.
@@KairuTV if u want to edc one I would say do it. It’s still welded on.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors exactly and if it breaks send that mf to zippo. Apparently when they repair them, the hinge they put on is the best because repairs are done by hand.
The old ones are the best .
Yeah better quality steel that’s a fact
Have to ask you as an Zippo expert is there something special and different with models that have SOLID BRASS engraved (model 204 and 254) compared to normal Zippo? What I have seen is that they have flat bottom like my 1941 replica. Zippos are all made from brass as I understand so that puzzles me a bit. Thank you.
They are the ones that get plates on them. Like barret smythe zippo have the plates or the surprise zippo with vault and gold plate. If u take those plates off. It’s that solid brass engraved zippo
