Craig Phillips your a real roll model. never been a better big brother winner than you. big respect goes out to you. I wish you a healthy and prosperous life.
Please could you consider listing all the products in the description? One of the hardest parts is finding the right pieces shown - ie, the key drill bits
i do not know why 277 unliked this fantastic video, may be traders who lost their jobs, but man i have to say your vedio gave me confidence to hang 3 doors in my house i was planning to do with tradies which demanding to do so..so thank you sir..
Really great video. I'm quite experienced at this level of DIY, but I lack confidence sometimes. Craig's videos - Craig's approach and style - will help me heaps.
Having moved into a flat that has cost the earth to being up to date, tradesmen did that, I need to replace all the 1980's brown doors to complete the restoration. Thought I might do it myself, so Craig Phillips's tips have, I hope helped me, if I can remember them. Tomorrow is D, (door) day. Thanks, Craig.
Since it's easy for a burglar to snap a handle and gain access to a cylinder, do you think it would be a good idea to weld the outside handle to the door instead of letting it be fixed with screw? (my door is an aluminum door) provided that you can still change the cylinder when needed by removing the plate that's on the inside of the door and then removing the cylinder from the inside.
That’s what a hardware store is for 🤦🏻♂️. Your house didn’t come with salt, sugar, spoons, knife, glass etc when you moved in. You had to go somewhere that sold them. Same for the list of tools you need to hang a door.
Better to plane 5mm off the top and 5mm off the bottom I think, cutting off 10mm with a circular saw is going to be tricky and a lot of cheap internal doors don't have much more than 10mm solid wood on the top.
Hiya Craig, bought 2 doors to the closest size to what I want, however I need to reduce height by 20mm - the recommended trim amount is 10mm all around but the baton inside the door is 25mm - would it matter if I took all 20mm of the bottom, Thanks mate.
Craig switch the muzak off Can you make a video of how to make a door close smoothly. I have to give our door a good slam by pulling the handle to, to make it close
the only thing i will say, and i see it on so many of these instructional videos, the item he hold up at 3:33 is not a set square, its a combination square, a set square is one of the triangle things with the 45 deg face on it. other than that, all good, i just seen it on so many videos and its such a simple thing but is something you should really get right if your going to instruct people.
Although thats its official name ive never heard anyone refer to it as a combination square and regardless of the shape most are sold as that the triangle ones are usually referred to as a roofer square so what it matters i do not know because they are all capable of doing this job 😂😂
viperfrank . Thanks for telling us that Viper, work work has now been done lol. Seriously tho, does it make you feel good poking holes in other peoples work? If any of us made a how to video on DIY there would be tiny mistakes and know it all people commenting.
Lol so even when you have a template (the door removed) in this case, which he also removed and I'm sure checked it was fitted correctly etc so could be used as a template, you would still want to drag the door in and then back out to the cutting area? You must be the slowest joiner in your town Haha. Do you use hand tools only aswell? Classic.
Yeh ok...so he used the existing door as a template. What if the existing door wasn’t installed correctly prior ? If the existing door had inconsistent spacings, then the new door would be installed incorrectly as well. The old door should have been removed, the new door should have been placed in the frame, lifted at the bottom with wedges, using the folded together hinge and a pencil, run the pencil and hinge along the door creating a perfectly spaced plain line to fit the frame so the spacings along the top and sides are a perfect fit to the frame. Take the door out and plane back the pencils lines so the door is an exact fit to the frame. Paint the bottom edge with a primer also to protect it from moisture.
Easy Peasy when you've got a shit load of expensive gear at hand, and an expensive workshop! Most of us have a kitchen table and 2 screwdrivers and a rusty old saw.
Oh, any chance of a demo of deadbolts and locking lever sets into a rebated double door? I'm sure I'll be OK, but I can find only mortice fitment, and that's above my pay grade!
I'm new to this sort of work and not a chippy (usually install sliding wardrobes) and watched this one the day before I did my first door replacement a few weeks ago. Seemed to work ok for 4 doors I replaced, though after being onsite with a chippy with 35 years experience, he showed me the easy way to do it, so I totally agree with your comment mate
+Tommy d on these doors I find it easier (if fitting a few at a time) to cut them to size first and get the painted up... Then sort out the hinges etc and fit it... Then just touch up as required. Far easier / faster than painting it once hung... 👍
Doug Maverick why would you do that? thats wood and you are painting it with oil based paint. that will take a long time to dry completly and by having it installed you can then freely paint it ans let it dry like that and not in a closed shed or whatever you where thinking
sharp chisel would have made for a neater job. flat bit for the latch would be a lot quicker. never measure off the old door. get hinge settings from frame. come on craig you're meant to be chippy arn't you.
Well I thought this was brilliant!! OMG you guys are ridiculous. Take it to the workshop means - right where it is! get out the old non-electric planner and plane that sucker by hand!! Good grief! whinge fkn whinge! I now have a perfectly hanging door because of this video! Thankyou Craig.
Thanks, Craig. I'm a total novice and I fitted my first door today, chiselling and all. Looks fantastic. Thanks, mate!
Nice work!
Eight years later and this video was done so well I have confidence to do it myself. Great tip on using the existing door to get all the measurements.
Im about to do the same this coming weekend.
How long does it take to replace one door?
Its so nice to see how many people this video has helped. For me it came handy when I bought my doors from Dako.
Craig Phillips your a real roll model. never been a better big brother winner than you. big respect goes out to you. I wish you a healthy and prosperous life.
Many thanks my friend
This video is perfect for when you want to replace a perfect fitting working door with a new door
🤣

How did it go?
sometimes when i watch your vedios i like your tools alot
Don’t way so many negative comments thought the vid spot on got 6 doors to do myself just clearing some space in the shed and starting them tomorrow 👍
Hi mate, really good video you've made. Wanted to know are there courses available in hanging doors?
Thanks Craig. A very useful video. The new door is in place and working well.
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing this knowledge
Glad it was helpful!
Well done you made it simple easy to understand
Damn ppl are harsh. This was a good DIY video every detailed and easy to follow. Thanks!
Good instructional video. I have 12 to fit and going to try one myself tomorrow. If all goes well ... keep on truckin

Brilliant video. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Graig whats them tools your useing too lift the door i tryed wedges but its a struggle but you can get air bags
Thanks alot. Your video really impressed me.
GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU FOR THE TIP ON HOW TO HOLD THE DOOR YOUR SELF/
Is their a certin side 2 put the lock mechanism and handle on or can u put it on either side thanks as i have some oak doors 2 do
Thank you so much for showing the video
Great video. Wish I had those skills (and the tools!) :)
Did u plane the hinge side? Not the right side to plane since it’s thinner then handle side
the way most videos say "all you need is..." , is like those equipments are in my kitchen just like i have salt, sugar, spoons, knife, glass etc...
That’s what a hardware store is for 🤦🏻♂️. Your house didn’t come with salt, sugar, spoons, knife, glass etc when you moved in. You had to go somewhere that sold them. Same for the list of tools you need to hang a door.
Or he can say “all you need is a fat wallet”…. So someone handy can do it for you.
Better to plane 5mm off the top and 5mm off the bottom I think, cutting off 10mm with a circular saw is going to be tricky and a lot of cheap internal doors don't have much more than 10mm solid wood on the top.
what about the high spacing on the Inside ???
Hiya Craig, bought 2 doors to the closest size to what I want, however I need to reduce height by 20mm - the recommended trim amount is 10mm all around but the baton inside the door is 25mm - would it matter if I took all 20mm of the bottom, Thanks mate.
Tim Clansey 10 off the top 10 off the bottom
You can cut the bottom if the block comes out clean it up and glue it back in. This is a pro tip.
awesome video!
Awesome tutorial very clear
Muchas gracias por el video. Explicas muy bien todos pasos para instalar la puerta.
does this method work if the door is not solid core? If not, what do you do?
Very helpful thanks. I now know that i need to look on checkatrade to get someone in ;)
Lol same here
I’ve just hung my first door, can’t wait to do the other 5, it was an absolute utter t#%t of a job
cracking work craig I enjoyed watching this
what country are you from in the usa they have tools that mark out the doors just drill out and assemble
Good job sir
I want to try this but Im not sure witch side of the door to plane down,,,do I plane the side where the door handle goes or the hinges go
Equal amount off each side, I am a carpenter by the way.
Steven Dolman I’ve been told different,,better to keep a perfect edge for the hinges
Useful video. thank you!!!!
Craig switch the muzak off
Can you make a video of how to make a door close smoothly. I have to give our door a good slam by pulling the handle to, to make it close
I was ready to fit my 5 doors tomorrow after watching this...then I read the comments.
Beg someone comes do them, I’ll give you drink

viperfrank .... Shut up !
viperfrank get a life
Such a great video thanks a lot I'm gonna save my money and do it myself
I am a Joiner and believe me it is impossible to hang a door like this demo. He never tried it in the opening so how can you plane it correctly.
He put the old door on top of the new one and used it as a template.
Lol so even when you have a template (the door removed) in this case, which he also removed and I'm sure checked it was fitted correctly etc so could be used as a template, you would still want to drag the door in and then back out to the cutting area? 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Lol
TJ Jamieson he’s using silverline tools not exactly expensive.
Can''t remember.Did you tell us which side the Lock should go,just in case there are no doors to measure up against.
YOU ARE SO COOL!
thank you I learn so much, so when I have a door project, I'll call woodworker and a Renovator
Good love video ...
Thanks
hi, craig would like to see you take a firedoor from 2nd floor to the workshop without setting it into the doorframe first, then fit ??
Excellent, great J.O.B.
Is that mdf door
you not priming and painting it?
striker plate wants moving forward, door was moving back and forth freely in the striker plate when he shut it.
craig ...you the man dude
I enjoy it
Oh, any chance of a demo of deadbolts and locking lever sets into a rebated double door? I'm sure I'll be OK, but I can find only mortice fitment, and that's above my pay grade!
he never use a marking gauge to check the hing depth and use for the width it for the hing
No he doesn't use a marking gauge. This is how not to hang a door.
Was great, thanks
What if you don't want to remove one of your existing doors?
its so cool
What I don’t understand is why the factory don’t cut the hinges and door handle notches for you?
Because all hinges on different casings are in different positions so it would be impossible
Thank you...
you escaped from Avid Merrion's cupboard!!
thanks for making the video
The most complicated way to hang a door I’ve ever seen wow
I'm new to this sort of work and not a chippy (usually install sliding wardrobes) and watched this one the day before I did my first door replacement a few weeks ago. Good video cheers, I have 3 doors to do (bugger)
This looks hard.. I was hoping to install my door myself but there's know way i can do it
good
What if you didn't keep the original door??? And your frame is uneven?
get a prehung door and shim it with wood shims until its plum and level. then put door trim around to hide the gap
Measure up from the hinge side and mark the for up for cutting.
Tq sir 👍
what if you don't have the existing door.
Brilliant. Better than Chippy Kev's Joinery Tips! What a laugh!
Shouldn't you have painted the door before it was installed?
+Doug Maverick Err, no.
Doug you treat the door after!!! Unless you want pencil marks and unwanted dirt and shit on the fresh paint or varnish especially scratches
+Tommy d on these doors I find it easier (if fitting a few at a time) to cut them to size first and get the painted up... Then sort out the hinges etc and fit it... Then just touch up as required. Far easier / faster than painting it once hung... 👍

almost 700k of viewer dont know how to install their door including me
Very Good .Make vedio in Hindi language for indian people.
thank you, i have about 12 doors to replace,,, so i guess i will get the tools which i dont have
Wish I would have known all this before I decided to kick a hole in my door because I was locked out. Quite the process...
All you need is ... 30 tools later I'm like damn to fit a door I give up
sharp chisel would have made for a neater job. flat bit for the latch would be a lot quicker. never measure off the old door. get hinge settings from frame. come on craig you're meant to be chippy arn't you.
Why not use the old door makes sense doesn't it surely?
Craig! Do the face! 😁 "Aaaaah, Sada!"
How long do you think those small screws are going to hold that door. Get a real drill and put 2 inch screws in the hinges.
This job is for professionals
Craig what's you number? I don't have the tools you have nor the workshop you have to do this...
thnx sir need more guide me
Take it to the workshop !!!!!!! are you having a laugh
You look young in this one
Was a few years ago now
great video but u didnt say what kind of screws you were using or how thick and long they were!
haha this guy is hilarious i met him when he dated a friend of mine. He loves lap dancers say no more craig :D
Y-it-Earp who doesnt love lap dances? 😂
Rat
And what do I do if there was never a door there...?
You shouldn't be allowed out on your own.
Ease.Using the model.
All that work
I like the fact you chiseled the latch out rather than use a large wood drill that is not as neat imo
25mm speed bit for the latch..and for the spindle hole..do this when the door is hung much easier
Scooby from c/4th ...proper joiner🤣🤣🤣
Well I thought this was brilliant!! OMG you guys are ridiculous. Take it to the workshop means - right where it is! get out the old non-electric planner and plane that sucker by hand!! Good grief! whinge fkn whinge! I now have a perfectly hanging door because of this video! Thankyou Craig.
why i could not watch it?? this video always get stuck.....
or just get a drill bit bigger than the latch and you’ll not have to chisel the square
Yeah that’s exactly what I always do.
even i have a router for the hinges and drill jigs for correct handle location. your way is very old school and time consuming. otherwise nicely done.
What are u watching this for if you know how to already u dickhead
