      Yeah, I moved into a 1960s ex-council flat and every frame was wonky. Great way to learn the craft though, and managing stress

    I've watched a ton of videos on how to install a door. This is by far the best and most thorough explanation of the steps needed. Gives me the confidence of taking on my own door install. Great job!!

    first thing i always do before cutting to height,get a steel square and check from the hanging side that the head of the frame is square ,a common problem you come across and if you have fit the door to the head you may end up with to much clearance on the bottom

    On really old frames template the head on to top of door, then measure height, head of frame could be really out of level.

    You forgot to check for the door bevel. Some expensive doors still use them

    We are looking to get a glazed internal door which will need trimming by 2 cm(In height)to fit into the existing door frame. However, recommended trimming allowance is 1.2 cm from height. Can you suggest a solution as we really like the door?

      Just take it of the bottom you won’t see the exposed chipboard not uncommon to see 😊

    You lads remind me so much of myself it`s unbelievable.........I`m better looking obvs, but you & SkillBuilder are probably the best on TH-cam. I`m a Floorlayer & hear so many in the trade saying they won`t even ease doors for clients after fitting new carpets or wood floors. Keep it up lads, i did my first bullnose following your method this week & it was the best i`ve ever done, so i owe you one............

    No disrespect but you have to measure both side of high door frame ...always you cross with one side higher to the other and very rare they are both sale measurements on both side due to floor level and frale level

    Step 1 error- you only measured one side of the opening - what happens if the floor or the head is running out ?… a quick measure of both jams and check for square !!
    That’s like a new frame also!

  • @alanhand503
    @alanhand503 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sorry, bull shit, for a start you only measured one side of the frame, top to floor. How many old houses do you know where the frame is square.
    Come to my house and you will also find that not only are ALL the door frames out from side to side but also odd sized doors have been fitted, ie 28 1/2 wide doors where the standard doors you can readily get are 27 inch, 30 inch or 32 inch. Yes some places like Howdens make 28 and 29 inch doors, but for some reason they are 3 or 4 inches taller and so wont fit.

    Dilema, need a new door but frame is not standard and all doors except solid wooden doors can only be planed by max 10mm and i need 12mm each side and dont want to spend extra on a solid door , so my only option is to reduce the door frame size. Need to plane across width any tips on how to avoid breakout? Or is there another solution?

    what about the door head not being level you never checked the other side of the frame or used a level to check any unevenness

  • @heritage_carpentry
    @heritage_carpentry 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The hinges go on the other way round. Reason being that the weight of the door is held on by the side with 3 bits attaching the pin to the plate, not the one with 2. It supports more weight which is why it’s designed that way (qualified Chippy btw)

    Just personal preferences makes no real difference.

    I will say that a company called jigtech make a great jig set for putting latches and handles on and the only other tip I would say is forstner bits tend to make a nicer job of the holes especially on the start but spade bits are miles cheaper to buy as if you have normal style handles then work perfectly well as you guys have shown
