I've watched a ton of videos on how to install a door. This is by far the best and most thorough explanation of the steps needed. Gives me the confidence of taking on my own door install. Great job!!
Best video I’ve seen on fitting a door and I’ve watched lots - it is worth watching other people’s takes, but I’d say you have the best thought out method that points out a few subtleties others don’t mention . I don’t fit doors often - and am about to fit 4, and hence wanted to remind myself of a logical sequence to tackle them. Thanks !
You lads remind me so much of myself it`s unbelievable.........I`m better looking obvs, but you & SkillBuilder are probably the best on TH-cam. I`m a Floorlayer & hear so many in the trade saying they won`t even ease doors for clients after fitting new carpets or wood floors. Keep it up lads, i did my first bullnose following your method this week & it was the best i`ve ever done, so i owe you one............
This is absolutely top notch. Not everyone who's got skills can also pass them on so well. I've got four doors to replace and this will help me no end. Not the first time your videos have helped me out. Cheers, guys.
Honestly cannot fault these guys i paid a man to do 3 internal doors and the quality is absolutely shocking indidnt even want to pay the guy but he had them already hung i used your guys videos again and im certainly positive that it looks professional so happy with my self to be fair 😊
As a locksmith you have given me a few tips I'd never thought about ! I will say that a company called jigtech make a great jig set for putting latches and handles on and the only other tip I would say is forstner bits tend to make a nicer job of the holes especially on the start but spade bits are miles cheaper to buy as if you have normal style handles then work perfectly well as you guys have shown
@@homeimprovements no worries guys, despite my line of work I cant actually hand a door myself but you made it look so easy that I'm not particularly scared of trying it anymore! Keep up the good work and information
Your video is the best I have seen and I have seen alot. Thank you for doing a great job on explaining step by step with great info and safety with care. You have given me a boost to put up new entry door up which have been sitting a side for months! 👍
first thing i always do before cutting to height, get a steel square and check from the hanging side that the head of the frame is square ,a common problem you come across and if you have fit the door to the head you may end up with to much clearance on the bottom
Great stuff, thank you. Will come back to this in stages as working through. Worth getting an electric planer, do you think? The little air bags look handy
It’s been tricky to use for me but getting the hang of it. Win bags and combination square added to collection, planer borrowed. Thanks so much for this vid, it’s so clear, got time stamps etc. What do you think about chamfered/bevelled edges on doors? Worth doing/necessary? I worry about splitting it with the plane but I think it has one of those grooves that you can use on a corner@@homeimprovements
Almost exactly the way i fit doors... Only exceptions i use a door lifter rather than bags and take the door off to fit the latch... I just feel more in control with the door on its side and drilling down into it rather than drilling at waist height with the door hung. Just personal preferences makes no real difference. 👍👍👍
The hinges go on the other way round. Reason being that the weight of the door is held on by the side with 3 bits attaching the pin to the plate, not the one with 2. It supports more weight which is why it’s designed that way (qualified Chippy btw)
Hi.... Great video btw.... but quick question.... if these are finished doors... ie... no need to paint or oil/varnish...... then what about when you shave the sides of the door to make it fit.... you have now taken the 'finish' off... do you re-oil that part?
Lads you just cost me a fortune...you made it look easy so ordered 11 cottage oak doors😂. Just a shame my existing 1970's frames must of been fitted by a first year apprentice!! They is like well pissed bruv
@@homeimprovements I’m fitting 6 that are similar tomorrow so the reply came at the right time as there’s no markings on the top of the door. Appreciate the reply and the video boys, enjoy your weekend 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I have just had one of these doors fitted, Oak. The joiner used good quality Eclipse hinges, but only 2 - do you think it will hold up OK? He reckons it won't go anywhere, I'm more of a belt and braces kind of guy, he's coming soon to fit another....wondering if I should insist on 3?
We are looking to get a glazed internal door which will need trimming by 2 cm(In height)to fit into the existing door frame. However, recommended trimming allowance is 1.2 cm from height. Can you suggest a solution as we really like the door?
Dilema, need a new door but frame is not standard and all doors except solid wooden doors can only be planed by max 10mm and i need 12mm each side and dont want to spend extra on a solid door , so my only option is to reduce the door frame size. Need to plane across width any tips on how to avoid breakout? Or is there another solution?
Hi mate, what's the best way to fix up the old frames? Mine have notches cut out from old hinges and striker plates. Is there anyway to fill them or is it a case of a new frame? Cheers
Deviating off the intended line? I'm a young carpenter and always got taught to work with the grain seems as though depth would be easier to judge the way you do it. Appreciate the reply 👍

If only all old door frames where that good!🤔
Yeah, I moved into a 1960s ex-council flat and every frame was wonky. Great way to learn the craft though, and managing stress

These videos are legendary. Keep them coming.

Wow, thank you!
Good idea to measure left and right side of opening to fit a square door into an existing opening.
Really interesting and helpful. Many thanks.

Top Man.

Excellent advice and video cheers
Thanks much appreciated 🔥
great tips bro thanks
Thanks mate 💪🏼
good work. This guy is definitely a Dewalt guy. I wonder if they have Milwaukee tools over there.
I had two Milwaukee gave them away to a follower of ours 😊💪🏼
Proper job 👌

The grove on the base of the plane is for taking the sharp edges off. Carpenters like myself call it the Arris.
Cracking video 👍
Thanks 👍
Thankkkkk yooooooouuuuu
Could you perhaps do a video on how to install a composite front door?
cool video good job
Thanks!
Great video. Could you do a video on how to remove and install door linings?
Great suggestion!
Fab Video - Is there a way of patching up the old hinge cutouts?
We’ll try cover that in a video 😊
Great stuff, thank you. Will come back to this in stages as working through. Worth getting an electric planer, do you think? The little air bags look handy
In old frame electric planer is brilliant bit of kit 😊

Brilliant video mate thank you. Is there a reason the hinge goes on slotted side to the door at all please? Thanks mate
Not that I know of mate just how I do it 😊💪🏼💪🏼
@The Home Improvements Channel UK thanks mate keep up the good videos too 😀👌
Thanks 😁😁
Just want to say thank you took me best part of 4 hrs with a manual planer and chisels but it’s on and working and doesn’t swing 😂
That’s brilliant 😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Nice mate Yh I get what’s your saying 💯 😊😊💪🏼💪🏼
I'm the same with the tubular latches much prefer to do them off the frame
Your precise explanation is very much everything. Cheers.
Great series of informative videos.
Do a Velux if you get chance, please.
We will try and thanks 😁👏🏼

Good to know 😊👌🏼👌🏼
Awesome video
nothing like the sound of a door closing properly. cheers
Thanks mate 😁
Do you get your decent hinges and other door furniture from somewhere in particular?
Just brand eclipse for instants 😊
Hi why are you using an impact driver for drilling out the doors
Class
😁🙏🏼
Very rare to measure one side of the frame , relying on the top being level, but, must admit he does mention that !
Hi.... Great video btw.... but quick question.... if these are finished doors... ie... no need to paint or oil/varnish...... then what about when you shave the sides of the door to make it fit.... you have now taken the 'finish' off... do you re-oil that part?
You forgot to check for the door bevel. Some expensive doors still use them
Lads you just cost me a fortune...you made it look easy so ordered 11 cottage oak doors😂. Just a shame my existing 1970's frames must of been fitted by a first year apprentice!! They is like well pissed bruv
🙈🙈🙈
Always use a 3 inch latch puts it in the centre😊
Agree this is a cheap kit however handles and latches
I love the long estwing framing hammer but people always hold them as if the hammer is 5 inch long lol
On these particular doors which side does the lock go on ?
Normally doesn’t matter on solid doors 😊
@@homeimprovements I’m fitting 6 that are similar tomorrow so the reply came at the right time as there’s no markings on the top of the door. Appreciate the reply and the video boys, enjoy your weekend 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
"I've heard that you want to 'ang a door Tommy Shelby."
"You heard right Mr Solomon"

He reckons it won't go anywhere, I'm more of a belt and braces kind of guy, he's coming soon to fit another....wondering if I should insist on 3?
I don’t like to judge what others have done tbh Brian 🙈🙈 personally 3 on oak doors but the hinges are plenty strong for only 2 😁
@@homeimprovements 😁👍👌

Just take it of the bottom you won’t see the exposed chipboard not uncommon to see 😊
@@homeimprovements Thank you so much :)
On really old frames template the head on to top of door, then measure height, head of frame could be really out of level.
Could you use a multi tool to chisel out for the hinges?
Maybe never tried 😊
if your a cowboy yes
Do you have one showing how to install a front door with letterbox and Yale lock installation?
This is why we don’t offer prep to fits. Full replacement baby. In and out

You can or splice new timber in to repair the damage 😊
I use Ronseal wood filler. Invisible once sanded and painted. Might work for you.
I really need these guys in my life, are they married ?? Lol xxx
Where is the door from? Is it oak pre finished ? What colour
It’s cottage style oak veneer unfinished but are available pre finished also 😊
Which specific door on the website is this please as there’s a few different names?
Please help thank you
Out of curiosity why do you chisel across the grain and not with the grain when sinking the hinge
Prevents the chisel deviating 😊
Deviating off the intended line? I'm a young carpenter and always got taught to work with the grain seems as though depth would be easier to judge the way you do it. Appreciate the reply 👍
If I had the tools, I’d give this a go myself
The audio is gone on this? Only the voice though. The music is still playing in the transition sections?
How many doors like this would you fit a 8am to 4pm day?
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Its just a matter of moving the light switch now (another video?)!!
Eventually once the extension is up 😊😊
I notice you hinged the door opposite to original hanging side off frame, the light switch is now behind the door😮
Good spot but it’s for future works the room is being split and house extended 😊😊
If my door has no indication as to which side is for the hinges does this mean I can use either side?
I asked a similar question at my local builders merchant and they said yes door are the same on both sides
How much would you charge for this job?
what about the door head not being level you never checked the other side of the frame or used a level to check any unevenness
