Dual clutch Fiesta and focus transmission issues and the EcoBoost engines sometimes needing new cylinder heads at 80,000 miles because of carbon build-up spark plugs shooting out of the engine on the 5.4 Triton then the next engine problem with breaking spark plugs in the engine I could go on for a year all the problems with Ford they do make a good 9 inch rear end the 8.8 is strong as well
Just finished the GT350 TrackAttack. They have like 19 or 20 of the early (2016?) GT350's. The instructors noted that those cars have spent their whole life at the track and are driven HARD...often times by drivers who aren't that great. They said they've had to replace a couple clutches but no engines. The car I was driving had over 10,000 miles on it which doesn't seem like a lot until you see and experience how hard they are driven. Anyway, please keep us updated on the problem and good look with getting it fixed quickly and fairly.

Hopefully Ford honors the warranty and gets you back on the road asap.
How did it do in the Dragon? I was thinking of taking my gt down there at some point. My buddy just came back with his C7 and said it did real well. Why was blowing the engine in your gt on your mind? Do you have an 18+?
@@Ninja9981000 It was phenomenal. Ive passed through it before but this was the first time I dedicated a weekend to the area and man it was worth it. I was worried about my engine just out of paranoia and because I have the gt350 IM and longtubes but still on stock OPGs so it was in the back of my mind, but the engine and car as a whole performed incredible. I have a 2015 and never had an issue but my buddy in his 2018 pp2 did have oil pressure issues on the last day of the trip. @@kevinjiszler Yeah, I've been down there on a motorcycle a lot, but never in a sports car. Jeff, I have a 2018 that just blew up....very common on 2015 - 2018....issue is solved on 2019 and up. They replaced my engine with a 2019 long block that has all the internal updates, took 2 weeks and am back up and running. The Cappy yeppppp, was so close to trading it in on my M2C because of this issue. Decided to say F it and said if it happens it happens. I have a warranty for a reason...
Jeff, the engine in my 2019 GT350 blew up with 335 miles on it in August as I was breaking it in as recommended. A valve dropped in the no 8 cylinder ripped apart everything. shredded the piston, punched a hole in the block and bent the rod. Ford wanted to replace the engine to which I refused. I'd didn't spend over $70,000 to have a cobbled together GT350. Ford agreed to buy my car back and I lost about $800 on the deal. They reordered a 2020 exactly like my 2019 which had absolutely everything including the track package upgrade, carbon fiber dash, Gurney flap, etc. I just ordered a new hat with embroidery that reads "GT335"
John Saber damn that’s crazy, sorry to hear.... there’s issues everywhere it seems. Glad you are getting sorted, shouldn’t have had to lose $800 because of their problem...
"had absolutely everything including the track package upgrade" Whats that? Do you mean handling package (gurney & adj camber plates)? Anyway a MY'19 engine failure is bigger news than the previous model years. A dropped valve seems like a more common infant mortality issue but still we're hoping to hear good news as 19's get miles on them (mine is only @140mi as the cold & rainy fall starts).
Bummer man. I have a 2018 350. Can you tell me which engine builder signed your engine from the factory? I have wondered if there is any pattern with the specific builder(s) having more failures than others.
something I learned about formerly owning an e92 m3, allow your car to warm up and driving under 4k rpm for like 6 miles. rods are a big issue with high revving cars

And none of the big Japanese car brands are immune from major mechanical defects either by any stretch of the imagination.
so sorry to see this happening ... any race motor can blow up ... seems even with fluid levels up to snuff, this motor can still blow ... I only use Amsoil now for everything .. Did you get the Gen 2 motor installed?
Hey, Jeff. I attended the track attack with you in Utah. Sorry about the hassle. I'm working on my 3rd oil consumption test to investigate excessive oil consumption. This after my engine was replaced. Fear I got an older model of the UAW stamped engine. Perhaps the 3rd try will be the charm.
It's the main or rod bearings correct? I've been reading the bearing clearances are really tight . If that's the case the bearings are getting oil starved.
Please post an update once you hear back from Ford. I’m interested to see how this is handled. That sucks man. I’ve always been a Mustang guy and it’s been love/hate. Good luck
I purchased my first new car in 2018 when everyone was saying great things about the 2018 GT. Shortly after all the buzz was about the engine tick. Now my car has it and i was thinking about trading for a gt350 until I saw this video. Im so disappointed in Ford.
Tracy Ford engine tick wont break your car Its just an annoying sound that shouldnt be there. As for the 350, that sucks for an actual performance vehicle that also shouldnt happen when its designed to take a beating
@@adolfoarias I partially agree however regardless of vehicle price a new car should not have wide spread motor issues. A new gt is about 35000. Mine also has a roush supercharger dealer installed. Thats alot of money for a motor that ticks. Fords reliability is definitely in question and needs to step it up. I won't be surprised if the new gt500 has motor issues, give it a year.
Tracy Ford i have a 2019 whipple supercharged dealer ordered from LFP. And i hear the tick every now and then. Its not always which is weird. I ignore it now though. my car is ridiculously loud so most of the time i wont hear it when it comes back. Im sure the gt500 will have issues but dont all cars do? But the way i see it, this is what happens when you refresh a car every few years. Yet i would still get a 350 or 500 without question

I had mustang 2013 and it got stolen so when I get it back and first time when I started after getting back. I had same solution just like yours 350GT the knocking sound so when I showed to the mechanic he said the crank let it go. The crank is blown. I feel same likes yours. I hope you fixed soon and gets back on road. Can’t wait for it.
Just when things were about to get interesting... poof... I was dying to get it out to Sebring, but it will have to wait. I'll be happy if this replacement process goes smoothly.
I am adding the Ford ESP extended warranty before my factory warranty expires in November. My car is spec’d exactly the same as yours. I followed your channel extensively prior to buying mine and you played a large role in my decision making. I have 9400 miles on mine.
OMG. This just occurred to me. Ford just ordered a new Engine replacement. Sadly I purchased mine at 6k miles and I don’t know if it was broken in correctly.
I see a ton of sketchy vehicles on cars.com where you can tell something MUST be wrong with a car because it already had an owner but has been returned with low miles. That makes me think the car was a lemon and they simply did not want it.
Mine did the exact same thing at 12000 kilometers. Same noise. Ford replaced the motor, there was no hassle, my dealership Kennedy Ford in Oakville, Ontario Canada was great. 1400 kilometers on the new motor and everything is great. I intend to drive the car as a sports car again now that the new motor is broken in. Enjoy the car don’t worry.
Jeff Ashton 2018. Purchased late 2018, currently has about 1,400 miles. Just got it back last weekend from National Speed in Richmond. Had the whole gamut done. Whipple, headers, injectors, carbon fiber drive shaft, etc.. Just over 800 rwhp. She is a beast now, not even close to being use to it, it’s a different car now. Really appreciate your knowledge and content, also the rock guard thingys I ordered in your site! If you ever around Virginia Beach hit me up, your welcome to review it or something..
Forgot to add. Didnt mod the car, did same break in as what you said when I got mine new as well. No hassle for me at least from ford or my dealership, 2 weeks. Is what it took
Damn Jeff, I’m sorry that happened to you man. Do you still have the whipple GT anymore? I was thinking of trading mine in for the GT350 what are your thoughts?
I had this happened last summer. 2018 Shelby GT350 even the color is exactly the same LOL. Cylinder one intake valve falls into the cylinder bore. It took Ford 3 months to fix that. They replaced a new engine for me; everything goes pretty well since then.
It's a mustang aka a muscle car, it was meant to do Donut's aka burn outs....can you imagine getting a car like this and not able to do a burn out cuz you afraid of breaking the engine? Or don't want to do a burn out cuz some people will think negative of you? That would defeat the purpose of getting that car, might as well just get a Camry... actually I have a V6 Camry....it has 100k miles and with 270hp V6 to the front wheels it easily without even tryingp does a front wheel burn out every time I step on it, turn off traction control and the front wheels will be burning rubber until it reaches 50mph and then finally the front wheels get enough grip to get them moving without burning rubber.. Yes I abuse my car but never to a degree that it won't be able to handle it, I also do all the maintenance myself and in a timely manner for my style of driving, not to mention that I also feed it the best synthetic fluids/oils and best or original parts/maintenance parts, and on the rare occasion when something does brake, I don't get mad at the car or at Toyota, I just accept it as normal for the driving that I do, in fact sometimes i get amazed at how long a particular part took to break.. ..also when I have to replace something in my car it always helps me to learn more new things about the car and how certain parts or components work. I also enjoy when I spend a good few hours working on my car. My car is a great listener and it never talks back to me.
What is the deal with these engines? I want to buy one but I have seen many examples of this on youtube. Has this problem been corrected with the 2019-2020 etc?
Sorry to see that brother. I actually never broke my 4runners in. I literally drive off the lot with my toyota 4runner and hauled a 5k trailer from orlando to Houston tx and that's been the story. I see guys running the shit out of their cars with no break in at all, then screwing up oil quantity (and quality) in first oil change and wanting to blame Ford. 90% of it is idiots not breaking in the engine properly, oil issues, and about 10% early '18 built engines that had legit issues.
Yea the ford dealerships especially the techs or auto detailers, abused them i bet when they still haven't even broken in yet brand new
@@buckeyeman7631 as an ex Ford technician of 8 years you should blame Ford not every engine failure is Ford's fault however Ford puts out a lot of vehicles with problems they know exist and try to pretend that they don't and then tell us the technician to lie to the customers and pretend that we have never seen this problem before even if I might be looking at three cars in the same day with the same issue. we would sell 5.0 Mustangs where the engine rattled with less than 50 miles on it the first one we got in stock we tried to return because of a noise coming from the engine and were told by Ford that is normal for those engines.
Sorry buddy , you seem like such a nice guy . Hate to see so many disrespectful comments.
soulerflare7 thanks man, some people are just straight up ignorant unfortunately. The majority are positive or at least provide constructive feedback. Gotta deal with idiots some times in life haha.
Welcome to the club man, my 17 350 got a new motor (oil consumption) I pick it up monday. On the bright side I get the gen 2 5.2. Only had 9000 miles on it when I took it in
Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn missed seeing Scott on youtube lol. Sorry to hear about this man. Just did the tail of the dragon and surrounding roads with my GT that has 36K on it this past weekend and the whole engine blowing risk was on the back of my mind the entire time. Hopefully Ford honors the warranty and gets you back on the road asap.
Kevin Iszler we’ll see, fingers crossed. 🤞
The dragon was a lot of fun but if you plan on going I really recommend doing some of the faster roads like the cherohala skyway, NC-28 and the foothills. Those roads with their higher speed corners is where you'll really see the GT shine.
@@kevinjiszler Yeah, I've been down there on a motorcycle a lot, but never in a sports car. The 2015-2017 motors seem to be pretty stout, I'm sure the 18+ are too but you seem to hear a little more issues with them, at least with the ticking sound and such, and seemingly have weaker manual transmissions. What are your thoughts of the gt350 mani and longtubes? Could you feel the difference during normal driving? I've heard you lose low end with the gt350 mani, but I don't know anyone personally who has one. I have a 2018 manifold, oil pump and cranks sprocket as well as a paxton supercharger waiting to go on the car, just haven't had a friend free to help with the install. Was thinking about getting a set of headers to do at the same time too. I'd like to get a little more Low end out of it for just daily driving. The paxton will take care of the mid and upper range.
The SAME thing happen to me to the T LOL. 48 hours before its first track day. Just got it back from being checked over. Got the car back, was driving it back home and the bearing went.
'Odd flex but OK Jeff' hahahahaha. Love me some backup car track days.
🤭🤭🤭💪
@@JeffAshton Glad to see that tow hook held up. Best of luck with getting back on the road man, hate to see this happening as the 350's are bucket list cars for me.
My 2018 did the same thing in April this year...at 1,800 miles. They put a 2019 motor in it, warrantied for 5 years/75,000 miles. I'm at 14,500 miles now and no issues. There's a light at the end of the tunnel here haha
Did they hassle you at all? How long did it take for the replacement engine?
@@drepop803 Not at all. I got a call the following morning at 10am and they said Ford already approved the new motor and it was being overnighted. All in, 2.5 weeks for a new engine? With the added warranty, I was okay with it.
That sucks that happen, good luck. Good to see Scott again.
Ford knows that these engines have problems. That’s why the 2019 release has GT350R parts in it.
Umm... I'm kinda sure they are using GT500 parts and it's not because "they know" these have problems but it was done to keep the production cost down during manufacturing.
The good thing is you will get this 2019 gt350r replacement motor.
Mine blew exhaust valve spring at 5500 miles. Now seccond motor seems ok so far
Do you recommend, buying a shelby with a gen 2 engine replacement. 9k miles on new engine.
Jeff, I have a 2018 that just blew up....very common on 2015 - 2018....issue is solved on 2019 and up. They replaced my engine with a 2019 long block that has all the internal updates, took 2 weeks and am back up and running. With that said, the new engine is significantly stronger and faster than the old engine. My max speed at PBIR was 144 on the longest straight and now I am hitting 150+ mph.. The best dealer in S Florida is Pompano Ford, they actually are capable of working on the GT's and Shelbys....all performance Ford vehicles. Best of Luck! Scott S Motorsports
Glad to hear you had a good replacement experience, gives me hope! Wish your dealer wasn’t so far away or I would use them for sure.
Same thing happened to tunnel chasers car and Ryan from shelby exotics , this is a real problem. Glad your ok Jeff, if theres any light to this you will get a new long block, and from what I heard they are made a bit better , longer head bolts , and the heads themselves flow a bit better is the rumor.
billet oil pump gears and crank sprocket. It's a must on those cars
That still doesn't help the rod bearings issue
Ugh sorry to hear this. Makes me nervous. Mine has a coolant leak. Taking her in next week to get worked on.
I saw your video! Thought for sure it was done! I’m crossing my fingers for everybody else, not the funnest thing to deal with. Hoping Ford handles this well.
@@JeffAshton If it comes down to it, I went through Ford's buy back process with my 2018 Mustang GT that blew up. What a horrid process that was. If you come to it, I'm happy to give you pointers. Hope they get you fixed up quickly on this.
Rated R Cars I followed that process on your channel as well. Crazy man... I’ve unfortunately been through a similar situation with a new Ford Escape years ago, had to raise hell after the car was in their shop for about 3 months. Had to go higher up and ended up getting a new vehicle... I may hit you up though, I don’t know if I would rather have a new car or not at this point or if they would even entertain the idea.
@@JeffAshton Yeah in CT at least, I think the car has to be in the shop for 30 days (doesn't have to be consecutive). Feel free to email me at RatedRCars@gmail.com anytime.
A coolant leak is a precursor to rod knock, just like a Coyote oil change is a precursor to the typewriter tick.
That's sucks that happened but you were very calmed and composed despite the engine issue. Hopefully the warranty covers it all and hopefully you get find the real cause of engine failure. It's was great to see Scott, haven't seen him in a long time. @😊😎.
Mine is a 2016 Tech Pack W/29K miles nothing wrong w/ it. Sorry to hear about yours. Lets hope nothing mayor happened to the engine.
You guys (JEFF, JASON, TUNNEL CHASER, RATED R, SHELBY EXOTIC even LZ.)got me freaking the fuck out, im way good under warranty but who want to deal with this shit.
Jeff, sorry to hear that man! But deep down I’m sure you knew it was just a matter of time! It sucks! That’s why I didn’t pull the trigger on a GT350R last year! Hopefully the 19’ motors are better and trouble free! X fingers! Good luck man!
Reeve Topchiev always had that feeling unfortunately... such an amazing car to have such unfortunate problems.
Jeff Ashton to be honest thats why i gave up on Ford in the late 90’ i had two mustang GTs, an 88’ Saleen Supercharged, and a 2000 Cobra! Had nothing but headaches and problems on all of them! I love the GT350s i almost got one but i just dont trust Ford anymore!
0 ok .
Oh man now I’m scared to boost my GT350 not good sorry Jeff and it’s good to see Scott.
Prochargedbeast48 Scott is always does a good job of sexing videos up! 😄
@@JeffAshton does scott have a channel also?
It’s ridiculous that a car with that price tag on it has any major issues , especially with only 8400 miles on it. Your right Jeff Ford better step up and take care of your issue because this is their design flaw. Good luck
see Tunnel Chaser on You Tube. happened to him and they stepped up.
I hate this for you man as I’m a true car enthusiast. I had the hardest time deciding between the ZLE and the GT350. Not that the ZLE is perfect but I was scared to death of the motor going in the 350’s, ended up going ZLE. Hope it’s back together soon with no one yanking your chain.
Ford needs to step up with additional power train warranty for all GT350 owners.🐍.
This is insane! I reviewed a gt350 last year, that had 36k miles on it. It was a 2016. 2 years old and had 36k miles in it, turo miles too, so you know they were hard miles. Car drove and handled really well. 0 issues for hours of hard driving. Not sure why this happened to yours, but maybe it's a one off kinda thing. Good luck, try the M2 at Sebring :)
MaxSpeed not one off unfortunately, tons of guys with the same issue. 🥺
Exactly!!!! You can't believe all of these vids man. You don't know how people took care of the car. Most issues are owner error not car. I know 3 people with over 40k miles on their gt350's with no issues.
@@lmjames33 i've since reviewed another gt350 with almost 12k miles on it, lots of those are hard miles, some at the track, everytime he changes his oil his filter is still at the right torque specs. So idk. Sometimes you just gotta buy the car you want and do the best you can while enjoying it
Hey, sweet looking car BTW? I'm not mustang enthusiast so excuse my question... Is the black stripe stock?
Man jeff so sorry!! What a bummer! Hopefully the dealership doesn’t give you a hard time! You did everything right!

I used to love mustangs, my first mustang was a 96 cobra, first year they had the 4.6 I believe, then I had an 08, and a 15, after the 15 I'll never buy another one, there's no reason why these coyote and voodoo engines should be using oil brand new, it's documented all over TH-cam,
So glad I got rid of mine. With these cars it's a matter of when not if. Otherwise it's a fun car and one of the last high revving NA cars. Shame, hope it gets the new engine quick.
@@JeffAshton I couldn't believe they would buy it back. The $800 covered registration fees, and the 335/100,000 mile depreciation charge.
"had absolutely everything including the track package upgrade" Whats that? Do you mean handling package (gurney & adj camber plates)? Anyway a MY'19 engine failure is bigger news than the previous model years. A dropped valve seems like a more common infant mortality issue but still we're hoping to hear good news as 19's get miles on them (mine is only @140mi as the cold & rainy fall starts).
lol love how the valve covers proudly display “Powered by Ford”. Yikes after the Focus RS blown head gasket issue i’m not surprised by this
I'm eagerly waiting to see what happens! What RPM do you think the ECM will show?
Why this happen to my dream car, but this is still not stopping me.
Same, I still want one
Could the thinner oil Ford specifies for the newer engines be a culprit? My 2011 2.3 Ranger uses 5-20 oil all through the year.
Was actually considering buying a GT350 but after watching this video I think I will get the hellcat instead
c8??
Bummer man. I have a 2018 350. Can you tell me which engine builder signed your engine from the factory? I have wondered if there is any pattern with the specific builder(s) having more failures than others.
Wow sorry to hear that hoping you have an easy experience and get it back soon
Don Won same Don, appreciate the support. I’ll keep everybody updated.
something I learned about formerly owning an e92 m3, allow your car to warm up and driving under 4k rpm for like 6 miles. rods are a big issue with high revving cars
Probably starts his car with his foot to the floor, redlining it for 10-15 seconds to help it warm up faster.
I just said some shit like this. They’re blaming the car but it’s the driver that’s the fuck up. It’s funny how all these dumb asses are dissing ford but half of these dip shits drive a Prius lmao. Can’t afford a real car??? Quit blaming mustangs for dumb asses that can’t drive a stick.

“American cars are crap”
Ever heard of Range Rover, Mini, Jaguar, Fiat, Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW, Maserati etc.......
Any one of those poorly made Euro peon car brands make American cars seem indestructible by comparison and at almost double the price on average and rapidly sinking depreciation rates horrific enough to cause their owners permanent brain damage from the shock.
That sucks Jeff.. hope all turns out well... And this doesn't turn you against Fords and mustangs
Good thing you installed that tow hook. I have a 2017 GT350 with 22k miles. So far so good. Sorry you are one of the few that had engine issues.
Ford definitely gotta step up & give u a free GT500

I guess it's only the trucks that are built Ford tough
Naw the engines in the F-150 have been a disaster lately. Especially the 5.0 Coyote.
Hey, Jeff. I attended the track attack with you in Utah. Sorry about the hassle. I'm working on my 3rd oil consumption test to investigate excessive oil consumption. This after my engine was replaced. Fear I got an older model of the UAW stamped engine. Perhaps the 3rd try will be the charm.
This hurts
And Scott’s back oh shitt yeah buddy
That sucks doesn't matter what kind of car you buy shit happens
Jeremy Sayers agreed, can’t run away from it!
That's scary..I want one so bad..but it's so many stories about engine failure..Idk..best wishes to u guy.
It's the main or rod bearings correct? I've been reading the bearing clearances are really tight . If that's the case the bearings are getting oil starved.

I purchased my first new car in 2018 when everyone was saying great things about the 2018 GT. Shortly after all the buzz was about the engine tick. Now my car has it and i was thinking about trading for a gt350 until I saw this video. Im so disappointed in Ford.
Tracy Ford engine tick wont break your car
Its just an annoying sound that shouldnt be there.
Did u get a low oil pressure light before the knocking sound because if so its probably your oil pump gear failed do to improper oil temp not being 190 degrees we had a customer come into our dealership and the engine failure was because of the oil pump gear failing best of luck to u hope to see that beauty fixed and back on the road
That car was sick from the moment it left the factory
andrew srenson so sick it coughed up some rods
I had mustang 2013 and it got stolen so when I get it back and first time when I started after getting back. I had same solution just like yours 350GT the knocking sound so when I showed to the mechanic he said the crank let it go. The crank is blown. I feel same likes yours. I hope you fixed soon and gets back on road. Can’t wait for it.
Well .... I didn't see this coming. Sorry Jeff, I was looking forward to your coverage of Sebring. Crossing my fingers that Ford takes care of you.
Just when things were about to get interesting... poof... I was dying to get it out to Sebring, but it will have to wait. I'll be happy if this replacement process goes smoothly.
Had a 2017 gt350 same thing happened. Got is replaced with a 2018 hopefully they fixed the issue.
Hopefully it goes smoothly for you. From what I have read on the mustang forum you’ll be getting a “R” motor.

Sorry to hear about that huffily you get it figured out nice to see scooter miss you buddy
Damn scott ive missed you. Hopefully one day you make another appearance on mustang lifestyle 🙏🙏
So mine just being supercharged was probably a bad idea? 😫
Chris Y 😖😖😖 what year is yours?
Jeff Ashton 2018. Purchased late 2018, currently has about 1,400 miles. Just got it back last weekend from National Speed in Richmond. Had the whole gamut done. Supabuck make sure the 350 is under warranty. Car was perfect besides this.
I had this happened last summer. 2018 Shelby GT350 even the color is exactly the same LOL. Cylinder one intake valve falls into the cylinder bore. It took Ford 3 months to fix that. They replaced a new engine for me; everything goes pretty well since then.
donuts in parking lot... i see the rubber all over dudes.
Lmao i was thinking same thing
Mind ur business
All they need now is a crowd.
Uhg, that sucks....but I’m interested to see how all this plays out

Better Than you warranty is the most important thing. With used you have to be sure nobody has done anything to the engine or any type of tuning.
Yeap and my small dealer has done mine and 2 gt350s
Upgrading your 5.0 with a supercharger and suspension kit makes a world of difference. Still not a GT350 but 700+ horsepower and suspension work makes it a TOTALLY different car
