I don't think the Ponspectors are required, but they do give you an advantage in battles. This DLC is cool, but at this point it does seem like there is a lot of back-and-forth to places you've already been. At least the music is gorgeous.
That map is freaking beautiful. If I was a child, I would explore every meter of that map. I wouldn't have left any stone without investigating. As I grew old I noticed that... It's so hard to care for the little things.
