I was obsessed with the Transporter as a child. My parents are from Newport so every time we went to stay I was enthralled by it. It was shut for so long as a kid and had the bulbs on it to light it up at night and it looked awesome. I have framed photos of it like that and its magical. I was so obsessed that my dad wrote to Newport council and I was invited to reopening in 1995. I was scared to death riding the gondola but what an experience! A dream come true! I have ridden it God knows how many times now and love it. My son now loves the Transporter also. I tried to walk the top but got 3 flight sup the leg and had to come down so videos from the top are awesome. Still makes me shudder watching it on video from the top though. My dad used to go over the top to go to school sports day! This bridge is a marvel that should be much more well known than it is.
Absolutely stunning Ray, I captured it a few years ago, but as it was late in the day couldn't capture as much as you have....Thanks for sharing.....Regards....Bob
Thanks for those comments Bob I recommend the walk over the top, but it's not for everyone of course. The open mesh walkways don't help those of a nervous disposition...... Ray
I climbed it when I was very young about four or five times amazing views and experience I am 64 Newport born and bred would not be able to manage it these days the crazy thing is before it was fully renovated years back when it was not being used there was even mention of selling it off until the people of Newport got wind of it so thankfully that didn't happen when ever I leave Newport say even just for a holiday when returning and just seeing the transporter bridge I know I am home we are very proud of the bridge In Newport
