Wow he really saw a huge amount of China in a time when I would guess most people died in the same village they were born in.
Those times were brutal
Lu Xun getting a whole chapter to himself is pretty incredible. It's probably not a long chapter by itself, but still goes to show how vital he was to Wu as a whole.
It's a pretty long chapter actually
All I know about this guy is he has 100% melee evasion and the most terrifying smile in all of China.
Can't blame Cheng Zi, the Wu court was a dangerous place.
Sun Jian has been doing black ops missions south of the country and since the Han Imperial Court is somehow incompetent from top to bottom, they just let it slide simply because Sun Jian’s cleaning up the trash on their behalf.
I generally think it's so fascinating when you have prominent characters who rose up to importance in each kingdom, and their kids are just nobodies. It is hard to live up to the legacy of generals like Cheng Pu, but to do absolutely nothing of note is impressive
Would you ever do a series on Zhang Liao specifically? He’s just eternally cemented as my favourite general.
Dang I didn't know Cheng Pu was born in the north.
Pretty much as far north as you can go and still be Chinese at the time!
Thanks ST, love this sort of content. Looking forward to the full stretch of 12 Tiger Generals of Wu!
If I were to guess, Sun Shao of Beihai is slotted somewhere in Taishi Ci's shared biographical chapter, being once a fellow official under Liu Yao during Sun Ce's Conquests.
Ok I like these type of videos. Really great stuff
Awesome bio video again on my boy master cheng. Love your work. Was so excited when u were going to do a video on all these generals. I feel like Wu never gets the love it deserves from the text especially in the three kingdoms novel. Wish I could get a copy of the book of Wu. Keep up the good work scholar.
Love the Wu kingdom and the stories. Going through Dynasty Warriors Origins and represent for my Wu boys.
Of course shu contained least chapters in record of three kingdoms that jin court had comissioned
There was no detail about Cheng Pu's son? Like perhaps he was not fit to be a commander, or he pursued a different path like becoming a merchant or something?
he is only recorded because he got an honorary nobility title when Sun Quan ascended the throne. Historians record for the state and there is no reason to waste words covering how someone's son decided to become a merchant...
Always a good day when I see a new video and a new lore video too
Though it may be easy to do, don't forget about Han Dang! 😂
Just in time for my Lets Talk Lore fix
Somewhat irrelevant but I've been curious about that for a while, is there something pushing you towards using either ROTK or TW portraits for any given officer ? As in, any particular reason you go for ROTK portraits for X but Total War portraits for Y ?
Nice video, really curious about some of the "lesser known" ones on this list !
Usually if total war three kingdom has the artwork I will use that by default but in this case I wanted consistency for the 12 on the list so they will all be ROTK
It is interesting how many named figures lived through the chaos to serve many lords. Liao Hua, Cheng Pu, Huang Zhong, etc. Their contributions to the states they served quite towering when one thinks about it.
I wanted to ask if there was a good translation for the Records of the Three Kingdoms. Perhaps you know where I could look?
No idea since I read it in Chinese
@@SeriousTrivia Thanks for the answer!
Wu had generals, but not good leaders after Sun Quan.
No men outside of the Sun royal clan can truly take paramount control of Wu after Crown Prince Sun Deng's sudden death that triggered the political freefall.
Please Serious Trivia do 5 tiger generals and the 5 elite generals.
I want to see and hear every feat of all of them so that I can finally make the haters zip their lips.
I was told in a PSN message that Zhang Liao was a fraud and Guan Yu was overrated and that Zhao Yun is just a bodyguard, I need the best info and I'll link them your video to shut them up. You're my only hope ST! 🥺
Edit: I am so interested in these 12 even though Wu did not have as many engagements like Shu & Wei
2:10 there is no book about Lu Kang?
unless a son far outdo his father, they are usually recorded along with their father's tale
The 12 tiger general also known as the 12 significant but not that significant general of wu
-chen shou after realising he doesnt have enough space in the record of the 3 kingdom
All of them are very significant in regards to their individual deeds compared to the rest of the notable Wu general officers before and during the time the Sun clan of Fuchun were around Chinese history, as warlords and then rival emperors.
