Wizards and Warriors Channel sci-fi animated documentary video series on the Star Wars galaxy lore continues with a new series on the Clone Wars. After covering the Galactic Civil War ( • The Entire Galactic Ci... ) and the Thrawn Campaign ( • Star Wars: Thrawn Camp... ), our Clone Wars series will open up with the first battle of Geonosis, as the forces of the Republic and CIS Separatists start fighting their war over the galaxy ( • First Battle of Geonos... ). In 22 BBY, seeking to gain control of the planet's strategic resources, Separatists attacked the planet of Christophsis, leading to a battle here ( • Battle of Christophsis... ), while Ploo Koon tracked Griveous to the Abregado System, leading to the Malevolence campaign, while on the other side of the Galaxy Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano were supporting the clones and the local Twilek resistance in the Ryloth campaign ( • Battle of Ryloth - Clo... ), followed by the battle of Malastare ( • Battle of Malastare - ... ) and 2nd battle of Geonosis ( • 2nd Battle of Geonosis... ). In the aftermath, the war entered a period of stalemate during which both side tried to hunt down each other's leadership ( • Why did the War Contin... ). However, the real target of the Separatist leaders wanted to get rid of the clone facilities, leading to the battle of Kamino ( • Battle of Kamino - Sta... ), followed by the battle of Mon Cala, where Mon Calamari, Quarren and Gungans fought ( • Battle of Mon Cala - S... ), followed by the battle of Umbara - probably one of the bloodiest engagements of the conflict, full of disaster and betrayal

NO!
STOP USING SOOO MANY BLASTER NOISES PLEASE. IT IS REALLY RUINING MOST OF THE STAR WARS VIDEOS.
Great videos but they need at least a solid separate day for screening to make sure names are being pronounced especially for those that may have speech impediments or are foreigners watching starwars content because they love it and it helps them learn English.
That's some mighty fine work your sponsor is doing there.
What is this game?
R.I.P. Hardcase, Waxer, and the thousands of brothers fallen in this campaign.
Yeah. What a waste for how it started. 😑
@@PhoenixStudios-G8djust like every other modern war up to this point
@maximusdecimusmeridious3784 amen to that bro
reminder, we all hate Pong Krell in this house
Reminder he called the clones by their number ID despite it being easier to just learn their names out of pure spite
The only good thing about him is his 2 double lightsabers
@TylorHanson Hate him, despise him, but no one can deny his martial prowess. Probably one of the strongest jedi knight out there just from the sheer number of clones he cut down alone (and from 2 of the most elite clone regiments at that)
-I can’t even see the enemy!
-that’s why they’re called the shadow people Tup!
Its lucky the shadow people love to have bright illumination on all their stuff.

Each Clone Wars chapter gets us closer and closer to the Empire's birth and the CIS, Republic, and Jedi perishing at the climax of Sidious' plan
This was so dark in the series because it was one of the few battlescenes without the droids it was humans against humans
Humanoids, at any rate. The Umbarans were aliens, but fairly human-looking ones.
@olefredrikskjegstad5972
I wonder where they stand?
Human offshoots, near human, or humanoid?
@@olefredrikskjegstad5972 They were sentient.
@@samuelstephen8147 Um, yes I know that. It's Star Wars my guy, aliens are intelligent beings.
@@samuelstephen8147 Doesn't make them human
This was always one of my favorite campaigns in the Clone Wars series because of how morally grey it was. Up until now, most of the time the GAR was shown fighting to protect worlds that actively wanted Republic aid/were suffering under the oppression of the Separatists. Or at least were neutral and were cautiously cynical about Republic intervention but were not actively hostile towards the Republic.
This time though was to my memory the first time in the series where the GAR invaded a sovereign world that was actively hostile to Republic intervention. And to make matters murkier, the Umbarans at this point had not attacked anyone, at least as far as we know. They had merely declared their cession from the Republic and otherwise had yet to agress on anyone. But because Umbara sat on such a vital hyperspace lane, the Republic couldn't afford to allow such a valuable planet to switch to the Seperatist cause. So we saw a case where this time the GAR were the clear agressors. Not without good strategic reason, but still the agressors all the same.
Just went to show that while fighting to protect innocent people was all well and good, this was ultimately still a war and far from "just."
And if I remember correctly, the episodes also go out of their way to show clones being ruthless to enemy fighters even after they've surrendered (and those aren't droids by the way).
I'll say though, Krell's character did let me down a lot. Considering the more complex moral tone of this arc, I thought he was gonna be a fallen Jedi, corrupted to the dark side by the atrocities of war, but still loyal to the Republic (rather than just being another cookie cutter evil guy who is/wants to be in league with Dooku). It would make for a good opportunity to show the moral toll of the war on the Jedi and the clones they command and give this deeper ominous feeling of "evil everywhere" and "heroes and villains on both sides", which is often mentioned when describing the Clone Wars but rarely seen.
Moreover, unlike every other major campaign in canon, this campaign was against an organic force defending their home-world, instead of mowing down legions of automatons the clones on Umbara were fighting against a fully organic force on their home territory, which definitely adds to the morally grey aspect of the campaign.
If Pong Krell had succeeded, things may have gone a bit differently. The 501st would be severely damaged if not outright destroyed, the CIS would retain Umbara, and Dooku might actually have taken him as a secret apprentice, and a backup for Grievous. He took on Savage after all. Another brutal apprentice, and one who can dual wield saberstaffs, would be a formidable addition.
YES!!! One of my favorite arcs
Probably my favorite Clone Wars arc.

Me hitting play and like buttons: "Good Soldiers Follow Orders"
Realistically Padme should have never done to the prisoners exchange considering that would have destroyed her popularity in the Senate and the masses. Grievous is the supreme military commander of all CIS forces and would have crippled the separatists forces, which would have brought a swift end to the war (if Palpatine didn’t interfere), and if the public found out about the prisoner exchange they would have demand her resignation for it. Though I am more surprised that the Gungans even supported her in the exchange considering they were becoming more bitter against the war, and now not only did they lose their general who fought honorably against the infamous Jedi Killer and beat him, but only for that sacrifice to be spat on by the Senator who demanded more and more from them without a true saying on their part.
Well Anakin was a hero to the Gungans for the Battle of Naboo, a close friend of Jar Jar Binks and had just saved their leader from being controlled. Anakin was also one of the most popular and skilled Jedi Generals of the Clone Wars.
Tell us that you didn’t watch the scene without telling us that you didn’t watch the scene
Remember, at first Padme said that “she couldn’t, she’s sorry” to Dooku over the exchange. In fact it was JAR JAR that helped persuade her to go though with the exchange. So your entire comment post is moot
Palpatine would've just named someone else General of the CIS
Here’s the transcript of the conversation:
Dooku: Senator Amidala, we meet again.
I must regretfully inform you that young Skywalker has been detained.
Padme: Whаt hаve you done with Anаkin?
Dooku: Now, now, Senator, let's not become emotional.
Padme: What do you want, Dooku?
Dooku: I'm glаd you аsked. I could be persuaded to return Skywalker to you
in exchange for… General Grievous.
Padme: I… I can't do that. I'm sorry.
Dooku: You soon will be. (Anakin gets shocked by electrostaff)
Padme: Stop! You cannot torture a prisoner.
Dooku: Torture? I don't know what you mean. I'll give you an hour to consider my proposition. I'm sure you will make the right choice.
(End transmission)
Jar Jar: Yousa have to trade with him.
Padme: I can't, Jar Jar. With Grievous captured, we could win the war.
Jar Jar: But, Padmé, hesa our friend.
Padme: I know. I know, Jar Jar.
Jar Jar: Mesa think you have to deal.
Boss Lyoni: You should listen to Binks, he's right.
0:12 - The Clone Wars was 3-4 years tops, so how could the Battle of Umbara take place after two decades?
Just a small mistake, if you look at the subtitle it is corrected
Glad I'm not the only one who caught that.

"Live to fight another day, boys. Live to fight another day." - Hardcase
P.S: Even nowadays, we still do not know why Anakin Skywalker was suddenly being called back to Coruscant.
P.P.S: The Battle of Onderon served as the sort of foundation about how the Rebels Alliance came to be, especially when it comes to the guerilla tactics they kept deploying against the Empire. However, this also raised the question among some of us fans as well that by doing so, did the Republic sponsor a group of terrorists against the planet's legitimate government that just happened to be align with Separatists during the Clones Wars or not.
We do, he was recalled by Palpatine because he couldn't control the war on Umbara, since it was a fully organic force. Meaning that there was a risk of Anakin dying in the battle, which would obviously ruin Palpatine's plans.
Honestly Grievous for Anakin is a terrible trade strategically, and Anakin probably wouldn't even be opposed to refusing it.
Umbara is one of the only places where I the Republic was actually fighting natives, which puts it in a uniquely bad light imo
No need to write “honestly.” It adds nothing. It is akin to writing “ummmmm.”
The republic was fighting natives on many worlds where they initially seceeded
If anything Grievous' capture on Naboo showcases the value of local militias
Jabiim comes to mind. Hmmmm
Oh the ptsd "were alll clonesssss" 😭😭

Absolutely goated arc, great video and animations
He was called Pong Krell because he had four underarms and didn't believe in deodorant.
Ah yes, the OG Space Vietnam.
Well felucia used to be that, then it became umbara.
Small issue. The beginning monologue mentions that the war last for 2 ‘decades’ when it’s been 2 ‘years’ within the canon by the time of Umbara.
Love the show, was hoping to see more animations on Umbara thoigh

Please also do the One Year War (Mobile Suit Gundam).
This is going to be sick when the full compilation comes out lol
0:12 - "The galaxy spanning war which had endured for nearly 2 decades."
WHAT? No. The Clone Wars did NOT last 20 years! It lasted 3 to 4 years. Come on W&W channel. Double check your facts before releasing your videos.
They even got East and West oriented wrong
I remember when the umbara arc first came out on cartoon network. It was one of the darkest things I had ever seen in a star wars property.
ive always felt that they should do a whole movie or series in a similar style, it always felt more real and war like, almost a mix between like a world war film and star wars, think it would be very popular amongst adult star wars fans
Of all battles of clone wars umbara was the most brutal
It would had been ok if they lost , add some tension
It's kind of a tie with Geonosia for me
Grievous for Anakin is a terrible trade, Anakin is an amazing jedi and commander but is not at all essential to the republics war effort, Grievous was absolutely vital to the CIS, he was their only commander who can take on jedi (dooku barely ever actually led armies) and was basically their only hope of victory, the republic should have either demanded far more for his release or just never release him
Yes
Awesome!
I wonder, what would Palpatine have done if his plans got out of his control? If the Republic had managed to defeat the Separatists more quickly than he had anticipated, or if somehow the Sepatists were winning the war they were supposed to lose? How Palpatine would have reacted to this, and what he could have done to stop it.
Scenario propossed by me :
Count Dooku betrayed Palpatine , he keeps Ventress , allies with mother Talzin and Savage
Than he stop holding back the separatist army and attack important core worlds , produce more droidekas , super tanks and ion cannons
Tell me if you want to continue
@flavius5722 It looks very interesting. The possibility of Dooku betraying Palpatine in good old Sith style seems very plausible to me, not to mention how much it could demoralize the Republic against the Separatists. With them losing their leader and leaving the government in chaos with this scandal. Worse, if Palpatine's plan for the clones were discovered, the entire Grand Army of the Republic would be compromised.
I love your videos, but just watching that first clone trooper with the blaster improperly on the shoulder and those guns firing way faster than they do in lore just has me on the floor
This is the best!
'Don't tell my mom I'm in umbara'
"Live to fight another day Boys, live to fight another day" Hardcase 😢
Ah Umbara the Vietnam of Star Wars not gonna lie I thought the Umbaran weaponry was pretty cool
This was the coolest nightmare-scenario planet
Did you mean 2 years? Don't think the Clone Wars went on for two decades
11:45 should that be assaults form the West and not from the East?
"What...!?!? *mad scramble, charging through the firing lines* Everyone!! Stop firing!! We're shooting at our own men!! They're not Umbarans! They're clones! Take! Off! Your Helmets! Show them you're not the enemy!! THEY'RE CLOOONES!!!"
(Sorry if I missed a quote. The sheer panic and desperation of that moment...I pulled this from memory)
Bad advise
On a planet without sun , taking your night vision helmet off make it even worse
@flavius5722 Maybe. But Rex was probably willing to take that chance that there are no Umbarans in that shootout. The friendly fire happened because both sides think there are Umbarans wearing clone armor. If the 501st took their helmets off and stopped firing, the 212th, who still had their helmets on, could see without a doubt that their opponents were also clones. Indeed, there was a 212th sniper team that immediately stopped shooting once they identified Rex as a fellow clone.
Edit: This isn't my suggestion either. This was what happened in that episode.
Very fascinant
The battle of Umbara reminds me of the Vietnam war with all the intense guerilla warfare
The battle to capture Grievous was an absolute debacle if anything his capture by the Gungans highlights the value of local militias and could've emboldened the Republic with a well orchestrated media campaignthe failure to capitalize on this stunning albeit brief victory shows the lack of foresight on the GAR's part
Umbara is another showcase of the importance of local militias in resisting an invasion force
Ryloth is a shining example of a militia playing a key role in the liberation of a system
Both the CIS and GAR made judicious use of local militias and these groups had key training and specialized equipment suited for the planet's ecosystems as well as compensating for any shortages of expertise or manpower
Padmé missed an opportunity to showcase the capability of militias as the perfect argument against more needless military expenditures and the capture of Grievous could've undermined Separatist confidence in his ability to lead
2 decades?? must have slipped proof reading ;)
Actually Obi Wan did mention that hr would fight the CIS forces on the ground in attempting to take the planet.
While the Umbaran army was mentioned as a militia to be handled by the 501st legion. This means that the CIS forces was fighting both the Western force and Souther force and the Umbaran sending a rear guard to protect their northern force.
But what roles did Master Tapal and Kestis have in this campaign?
I always thought the battle on Onderon was kind of weird. It felt more like terrorism than an actual rebellion against the planetary forces.
He says decades in the first sentence when he means years. The subtitles are correct, though.
That's a pretty big mistake.
00:00 don’t you mean two years?

@@criticalsmile How fortunate you are not the one making this channel run. This is the dumbest business strategy I have ever seen.
No offense to the writers of the source material, but I think they did a cop-out when they made Krell a traitor who had already turned to the dark side. It would have been much more grimdark if he was just a "normal" jedi who treated, and were allowed to treat, the Clones like that.
Indeed
Yoo should do the red rising series
Wizards and Warriors : The CIS had held the upper hand for most of the war.
Also Wizards and Warriors : made videos only on Republican victories.
blame the clone wars tv show. A very large portion of the lore we have of the clone wars comes from this and it was basically a kids show for about half its run time, so "good guys always win" was in effect.
the CIS holding the upper hand but losing isnt wizards and warriors error etc, its literally the lore, Dooku/Sidious were purposely holding the full might of the CIS back because they didnt want the war to end, they needed it to drag on so eventually insidious can execute order 66 and the galaxy will accept an emperor to stop the wars, if Grievous was given complete control and given all available forces, he wins the war easily, their droid numbers were in the billions upon billions while republic only had a few million clones
@@v_cpt-phasma_v689 I was more talking about Wizard and Warriors bypassing CIS victories like Jabiim or operation Durge's Lance. Making videos only about Republican victories is like doing an american civil war serie by making videos only about Union victories.
one mistake. dathomir is shown to be in republic space. iirc werent they supplying CIS with troops at this point?
