    How to sell gear

      Don't let Chapman near it :D

    • @Fektthis
      @Fektthis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, how could that guy ever know how to sell gear. It's not like he started his own guitar company which currently employs dozens if not hundreds of people and makes a living do that. Jeez that would just be silly. Oh and exactly what he really does do....... Does Pete have his own guitar company? I love Pete but come on now. You're just being a hater at this point.
      Final point and perhaps some of the Anderton's staff could help on this. I'm fairly certain a large part of the reason this channel exists at all in it's current form and popularity has a whole lot to do with Rob Chapman.
      You can like one guy without trying to diss another guy. That is the worse kind of person to run across. You see them all the time talking to women. You can't build yourself up so you tear down someone else they like instead. Clownish.

    I will say this about the special run of this guitar. This was on sale for less than $300 from another guitar shop in the USA. I have had a couple of Fender Tele's and one of the G&L ASAT with the MFD pick ups. The one I got came out of the box PERFECT. I have had it now for a couple of years and it still plays as it did on day one. As for the sound, use effects anyway and this works great in the studio. I like a sound just on the edge of break-up sound and in that particular set-up, this sounds great. I always find the bridge is slightly less harsh than my 67 Tele, so it lends to quick sound in the studio. And as I said it is rock solid. Glad you shed some light on how these came about, as they were never on the G&L website. No clues.

  • @charlie-obrien
    @charlie-obrien 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    6 years later and this is still one of the Captain and Pete's greatest outro jams ever!
    And to think they played out on a G&L tribute and an even cheaper version of the Tribute...
    Slap my face and call me Sally...playing is indeed in the hands!

  • @provenelk

    I’d like to see a shoot out between one of these, a Classic Vibe and a MIM standard. Would be an interesting comparison seeing as they are all in roughly the same price range.

      @SSEF15 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Mim is easily £150 on top of the sale price on this ASAT, the Fender modern players would be a fairer comparison even though they’ve got weird pickup configurations.

    • @Lucky13vwr
      @Lucky13vwr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      provenelk i done exactly this today and walked away with a g&l just played so much better than any modern fender and pickups are crystal and bell like

    • @bigfootingermany
      @bigfootingermany 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @provenelk Darrell Braun did a shoot out between the MIM Strat and a Squier Strat Deluxe, which is the Cort Indonesian made Squier with the Duncan designed pups in it. Very interesting conclusions. His recommendations was to get the Squier Standard version and change the pups. The Squier played better than the MIM, but the difference between Squier Standard and Deluxe was only the pups. And the cost difference was big enough to actually put a real set of Duncans or Bare Knuckles in the Squier.
      I have an American Standard and two of the Squier Deluxes. Bought the second one because the first one played so damn well. But the second one became my mod guitar. I had a set of Fender CS '61 pups laying around, and I swapped out the tuners with Ratio tuners. In a real shoot out, that 335 euro Squier would give my $1200 American Standard and run for it's money! In fact if you consider the price point, the squier wins hands down. But go check out the video on Darrell Braun youtube channel. It's pretty good. He does several of the budget vs high price guitars. Bob in Germany

    The pickups on these Indonesian ones are as good as anything out there, they're excellent. In fact, I got the guitar used for 365 euros and consider it pretty much a steal, it punches way above its weight class, is comfortable to play and sturdily built.

    Well, some say the letters stand for "George and Leo", officially that has been changed to "Guitars by Leo" (because George Fullerton got his fill of it) but I say it's "Gals and Liquor". I had one of the American-made G&L ASAT Classics that I bought new in the mid 1990s. It was my favorite guitar for about 8 years and the best Tiddle Casper I ever owned. The American guitars all have Ash bodies, these Indonesian guitars are made of Basswood. The finish on my American ASAT was the Mary Kay finish (a see-through finish applied as a thin layer of white paint smeared over the Ash and then covered with two or three coats of clear lacquer) - a finish that has not been offered on the Indonesian guitars but was a finish that Leo created for his first Straddle Casper signature model, a guitar that he made for Ms Mary Kay, a singer who performed in white evening dresses and played one of the first Stratocasters back in the early 50s. (The Mary Kay model had gold-plated hardware and sold for a few dollars more than the regular Strat, when the price of a Stratocaster was $275.)

Both in the $1000-1500 range and put many of their Fender counterparts to shame. They both love my 68 Fender Super Reverb 4x10!

    I once posted how much I love my G&L guitars on a guitar blog. Another poster came back saying that G&Ls are nothing but cheap Fender copies, to which I responded do you know what the G&L stands for? I then answered my own question with George Fullerton and Leo Fender, after that nothing but crickets. Speaking of which, if you want your G&L to sound more Fender-like, play it through a Fender Twin or Fender Deluxe Reverb!

      If you want your ASAT to sound more like the traditional Tele, just lower the MFD pole pieces.
      That's the secret sauce built into the G&L's that feature the MFD p/u's...

    I bought a G&L ASAT Tribute with the American PUPS second hand recently. They are fantastically well built and sound amazing. I think they are a FAR better buy than a Fender Tele. The ceramic PUPS have more output and a sweeter tone, but with plenty of 'twang'. Not sure about this cheaper version though.

    Still hardly no talk about those Leo-designed MFD pickups. And they're the big distinguishing feature in G&L guitars.

    • @ralex3697
      @ralex3697 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are not really up on the guitar specs
      Shame because the real selling point are the fabulous MFD pick ups

    How do these compare vs the Chapman ML3 Traditional Standard? I realize they are £50 cheaper than the Chapman. Can we get a comparison video with you two playing them and then switching?

    Valentine's is a corporate scam. Pete's jamming, on the other hand, is pretty freakin' awesome!

    This was a killer video, you guys. Can't get enough of the Lee/Rob/Pete/Rabea team!
    May I make a request for a future video? I have a Fender Nashville Deluxe Tele and my curiosity about the G&L ASAT Classic S (Alnico) has been awakened. Could you please compare those? Thank you!
    Oh, and Valentine's Day is just a commercialism day now. Big loud raspberry.

    Look at the pickguard. Is smaller on the G&L, he begins not at the same place as the 7ender

    HI. I'm thinking of buying an electric guitar. AH....Never played a guitar...but I would like to try.
    I like the telecaster a lot but I don't want to spend a fortune.
    I was looking at these three: Squire Telecaster Classic Vibe 50, Squire Telecaster Classic Vibe 60 Custom and the G&L ASAT.
    Which one do you recommend?

    ASAT is a military term for anti-satelite. The name was suggested to Leo and Dale Hyatt and the rest is history.

    It's not an "asshat", it's an "A-SAT" as in "letter A". Well, in my mind. BTW, OMG, Pete's looper jam! Yeah!

    Looks (and sounds) like a nice guitar for the money. As for valentine's day, I have a low opinion of it. My wife and I don't celebrate it. Instead we have our wedding anniversary and we also celebrate the day we started dating (back in 1989). More personal and more meaningful, to my way of thinking. Plus we miss all the VD flower queues and restaurant crowds. (Avoiding anything to do with VD always being a good thing...)
