    I’ve been to the Colosseum, and it was amazing! It feels like I walked back in time.
    I don’t understand how the Vatican isn’t on this list? I’ve also been to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. It was one of the most beautiful, magnificent, awe-inspiring places I’ve ever been to!

    9/10, but they made sure to have a "diversified" list. One could list Venice, Versailles, Mount St. Michel or the Alhambra above Edinburgh Castle or the Brandenburg Gate ...

    • @bcbitchkkv
      @bcbitchkkv ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Or one of the many central European castles like Neuschwanstein or Hohenzollern, the cathedral in Köln or Milano, St Petersburg, or some "eastern" European sights like the Hungarian Parliament Palace, Bulgaria's National Palace of Culture, Golubac Fortress, Ostrog Monastery, Dubrovnik, Castle Kruja, Romania's Palace of Parliament, etc.
      But I think they made a good list nonetheless.

      The Brandenburg Gate honestly doesn't even belong in the top 100 list. It's a laughably small and unimpressive monument. When I saw it, I could not believe my own eyes because it was so underwhelming. Yes, the Gate is historically significant -- but Europe isn't exactly lacking in historically significant attractions.

    Just four I have not visited which are the Hagia Sophia and the Atomium which will likely remain that way plus the Charles Bridge and the Acropolis which I had booked to visit but unfortunately Coronovirus came along and the flights were cancelled several times.
    Personally I believe absorbing the general culture is more satisfying than famous tourist landmarks.

    The Charles bridge and Edinburgh Castleay be iconic to the cities , but they are nowhere universally recognisable . The bridge and the castle could be almost anywhere in Central Europe or the British Isles.
    Compare that with truy iconic landmarks like :
    Rialto Bridge Venice ;
    Amsterdam canals;
    Dutch Windmills at Kinderdijk;
    Basil Basilique/Red Square Moscow ( may be not the most popular destination, but iconic!);
    Little Mermaid statue Copenhagen.
    These are way more instantly recognizable !

    I visited the Sagrada Familia in 1992. They have built a LOT more since then. As I understand it, it is only built with private donations so the work has been at a standstill for many years. Internet might have made it easier to donate.
    I also visited the wonderful, rebuilt, Frauenkirche in Dresden, which followed the same rules and was completely rebuilt in 14 years. Either the Germans are richer, more efficient or both....

    Not for commemorate the French Revolution 1789-1794 which is actually"July 14th" (celebrating the End of French Old Regim which the French Monarchy and the Beginning of the 1st French Republic)
