I started watching this and realized it was really special..I paused it, and treated it like a Halloween season TV program from the 80s by sitting in the living room in the dark, grabbed a snack and enjoyed. All my nostalgia buttons were pushed, thank you so much for this.
same here, I actually put it on pause and made my lunch and ate my chicken nuggets under my blanket watching it. I really enjoyed it, so enthralling and out of the box, Thanks for sharing.
Same, I think because it reminds me of the Halloween specials that used to be on tv all October in the 90s. I really miss that! It makes me sad to say it but I really feel like Halloween isn’t what it used to be, when I was a kid everyone and every company went all out.
My grandmother had 5 Dennison’s Bogie Books. Not sure where she got them, but she said she had them since the 1930s when she was young. I used to look at them all the time when I was a kid and they spurred my love for Halloween in the 70s. Later, when she had to move into an assisted living home, she gave them to me. I still have them and they are in decent condition. I look through them every October and always think of her.
Make sure to share with your friends! I just discovered his channel and shared with my friend who celebrates her anniversary on Halloween so this is a perfect channel for all things spooky and fun 🥰🥰🥰🧛🏽♀️🦇
What a creative, well-researched, wonderful video!!! It's amazing how much time and effort you put into this. I love how the three 'ghost' girls came right out of the book. I'll definitely be watching this every Halloween!
I've loved Halloween for decades and I can't believe I've never come across Dennison's Bogie Book before. 🎃 I wanna come to your house for Halloween. 🖤🦇👻💀
My Dad and Mom used to tell me about their halloweens,as they were kids growing up in the 1940s,in Massachusetts. There was some trick or treating, and they usually made their own costumes. Bonfires were lit in the middle of a street or in a park. The kids spent the week before Halloween, gathering stuff for the bonfire. The biggest things though, were the neighborhood Halloween parties!! You spent most of the night visiting the parties. Playing games, bobbing for apples, eating caramel apples, popcorn balls etc. Some of the neighborhood parties were in competition for the best party every year! Yes there was flaming paper bags with dog Doo in them,my dad said.😂
I absolutely loved your decorations and party ideas. I grew up in a small town where we knew our neighbors and I was blessed to have elderly ladies who were kind enough to make us homemade Halloween treats like popcorn balls and frosted Halloween sugar cookies all wrapped up with beautiful cellophane and tied with orange and black grosgrain ribbon. We also received homemade caramel apples and full sized candy bars. Things were much simpler and more magical than what we have now..My mom was a skilled sewer who made my costumes for me and she did it on a budget. My favorite costume she made was a mouse made from grey pinstriped flannel complete with pink-lined ears, and a long tail complete with a (new) mouse trap attached to the end! I can still remember how much fun I had walking down the sidewalk listening to trap clicking as I walked from door to door. It is the memories of these Halloweens 🎃 that remind me of what a special, magical time my childhood was. I still love the retro turn of century (20th) decorations or reproduction facsimiles to this very day. Thanks so much for sharing this this wonderful presentation with us! 😊
this was an awesome Halloween special Bogie Book presentation . how i wish i had saved my grandmothers Bogie books but got lost in the years of moving , I really enjoyed this and thank you for putting this together . Vintage Halloween ideas are the best it captures the true vintage Halloween that made Halloween fun in olden times >
What an absolute treat this was for Hallowe'en! I love the creativity and thought that went into this special. Thank you for hosting such an inspired celebration of the season!
We are doing a community building event in October with local stories and participation by downtown stores and local nonprofits. This video was the best find ever! I am going to embed it into our website- everyone should watch it to get their Halloween in gear! Lovely story, production, and presentation. Thank you sooooooo much! For a moment I returned to my childhood memories of good times… you are a treasure!
This was perfect to watch on Halloween when I felt kinda sad about the season ending. The production that went into this reminded me of the Halloween specials when I was younger. I loved the cinematography and the singing ghosts!
I actually remember my Mom making my sister a costume with black and orange crepe paper for school. I don't remember the results but I remember the paper and the colors. My Mom also had a few window decorations, a witch, a black cat and a pumkin. I loved all of them and the orange and black crepe paper. I was never a fan of trick or treating but the decorating gave me a life time relationship with Halloween.
We still did parties like this in the 1950s, and they were great Halloween fun. Lots of games, fun foods, spooky music, costumes, and forfeits or prizes for losers and winners of each game or contest. We ended with bonfires and fireworks in the back yard. Thank you for taking me back to happy memories of my younger years. Your singers were splendid…I can imagine them singing the songs from “Nightmare Before Christmas”.🖤🇨🇦
Since I started watching you I have been so much happier.😊 I've been so depressed the man of my life died and for the last 5 years I've been so depressed. I have to say thank you for creating your channel because you have truly uplifted my spirit. I say thank you and please continue creating the great content
👏🎃 I’m thoroughly impressed! This is an excellent production and I really enjoyed watching it and will definitely be making my own festooning! And I am envious of the frog shaped juicer you have in your collection! You have a good eye! Happy Halloween!
What a lovely video! I've seen pictures from the Bogie Book before, but I've never seen anyone actually try the suggestions! It was especially interesting to see people actually wearing crepe paper costumes, because I always used to wonder how it behaved when treated like fabric, and how well it would survive a party.
Thank you. Crepe paper is amazing. The book does say that for a costume its meant to last 1 night. This is very true. We filmed with The Deadly Dames for two nights and on the second night, there was a lot of costume mending to be done. 😂 the ladies also didn’t sit. They would kneel down on pillows to keep the paper crisp. They were such troopers. I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch. 🎃
You are an amazing and talented cinematographer and designer. This was a timepiece and short film. I was grinning happily the whole time. Wish I was there
You've outdone yourself with this video! I felt like I was transported back in time, and was sent off with a feeling of nostalgia because the ending of your video reminded me of the the old Goosebumps Movie from the 90s.
I was extremely excited when I found out about your Vintage Halloween Special. You really out did yourself on this one! A bit of all Hallows Eve history along with DIY’s and the vibe of the 1920’s you created was spooktacular !! And by the way cute creepy collar bugs!
Little Jack Horner sat in the corner eating his pumpkin pie. He stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum saying, "What a good boy am I!" That's where this nursery rhyme comes from.
This was so cute and I love the idea of doing a D.I.Y Halloween. Thank you for taking the time and showing us how Halloween was in the 1920s so spooktacular! Happy Halloween Practical Peculiarities!
I tend to go over the top for Halloween and collect the often cheaper but arguably creepier stuff I can buy in stores and do the whole scary house thing every year but watching your video has been very inspiring. I would come to your party if invited. The 1920's aesthetic is really nice and I can see it being scarier than a lot of the hyper real modern approach. Can you imagine going to a haunted house that was 1920's themed. The uncanny valley and button up tee shirt square serial killer feel would be terrifying. I really love it. My only note is as much as I dig the Andrews sisters style musical segues I would have preferred them not being re-appropriated Christmas songs
I love that toad lemon-squeezer! Happy Hallowe'en! Remember to keep the spirit of Hallowe'en in your heart, all year long. (That means to live as though your ancestors' spirits are watching you)
This was absolutely awesome and filled with everything Halloween stands for. The treats are especially my favorite and so glad you don't shy away from the junk food including Boo Berry! I can't wait to make the popcorn balls. I will be doing these ideas next Halloween as I already have my plans this year. I look forward to the execution 😅😅 of these ideas and can grab some Halloween stuff on sale on Wednesday. The Deadly Dames did a great job and I also loved all the costumes. It shows you can do alot without having to spend tons of money. Ah the simplicity of life.
I now realize the paper 'maxi skirt' in Grandma's special things was actually a flapper dress. Hers and Grandpa's delight at my naive outlook and Grandpa's snicker as he ran out of the room makes much more sense now that I am grandma age. ❤
Not only are you a delightful personality, have excellent production value, and have a keen sense of interesting topics, the moment you did a flip-through of the entire book, you sold me on subscribing to your channel! Cheers and I’m looking forward to seeing what other peculiarities you have in store for me!
10:24 this is a game changer. I just wanna add I stapled ‘em down the middle every 2-3 inches instead of sewing cuz I was lazy and it worked too. So my lazy/non-sewing-machine-owning folks can get in on the festooning!
are you kidding? this video is amazing! I swear I have a memory of a halloween program exactly like this from the 90s where they'd do halloween stuff like this and have little cut aways with short clips or spooky things. this is so cool :.) wish I could remember the name
This reminds me so much of the things my great grandmother would do for us around Halloween. Homemade popcorn balls and other goodies, hand painted masks, and always some sort of fun game to "tell our fortunes". So nostalgic
My aunt had a bunch of these books as they'd once belonged to her mom. She would throw these elaborate Halloween parties, and there would be colorful paper decorations everywhere. We had lots of different games we'd play, including a scavenger hunt. I began writing poetry when I was seven because my aunt would have poems as scavenger hunt clues (I'm almost certain I owe my love of writing poems to a Bogie Book

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but to me you're like. Christine McConnell's spooky little brother! Because you're so incredibly talented and entertaining, I had to watch this video once more. Thank you for getting me inspired for the spooky day this week. Again, have a beautiful and blessed happy Halloween🎃🍁👻

This is one of the best produced and most enjoyable videos I have ever seen. Thank you so much for making it! I appreciated all the little details (like using the broom to roll out the paper) and that you showed all the pages at the end. Loved it. Thank you!
I really love everything about your video, the deco, food, music, history. Those gorgeous singers are so charming and you are suave asf. I`m ready for halloween now and can`t wait to see what you do this year! 👻
You are the Top Ghost when it comes to making Halloween celebration videos! 🎃🎉🎉🎉 And your collection of vintage papermache Jack o Lanterns is Top Notch! 🎃 Hope to see more of you and your great ideas for celebrating Halloween! Many, thanks for everything you worked on for this video! 🎃🎃🎃🎃
This is so wonderful! I cannot believe the algorithms didn't tell me about you earlier.. oh well at least I get to binge-watch all of your gorgeous videos as a halloween-countdown now :)
Unbelievable! What a treat this was to watch. Thank you for the time, talent, and creativity put into it. So many unique ideas shared, with clear (and easy) directions to follow. Appreciate the free printables, too. Your attention to detail (measuring the crepe paper with a broomstick!) truely stands out. Thoroughly enjoyed, and will likely watch again every Spooky Season. Wish we could get an album of your witches singing, so wonderful! Excited to see what you come up with next!🎃

Yes, indeed! The "regular folk" on TH-cam often offer better entertainment than the mainstream! This was a good-un! 👍🏻🎃
Completely agree.
This makes me wish I had been born 100 years earlier.
I hope you make more content like this. I feel an extreme sense of nostalgia while watching this, for some reason.
Thank you! Maybe you had a past life in the 20’s? 🤔
Same, I think because it reminds me of the Halloween specials that used to be on tv all October in the 90s. I really miss that! It makes me sad to say it but I really feel like Halloween isn’t what it used to be, when I was a kid everyone and every company went all out.

I love this, I didn’t know how much I’d love it when I put it on. I sent it to my sister immediately.
