I met "Lurch"(Ted Cassidy) in a Sears in Glendale California. He was behind me and a friend in a long line where they'd give out free popcorn to keep us children happy and quiet while our parents shopped. My friend ahead of me whispered in my ear, "Marty, look how giant that guy behind you is!". When I acted like I was just 'looking for a wall clock to see what time it was' I instant recognized LURCH! Having not a single wise thought to throw up at him I had settled for humor instead. I looked him right in the eye and said, "So kid, you getting free popcorn too!?" I just googled the actors on this show and found out Fester was played by Jackie Coogan. He was the original child actor and first starred in the silent film 'The Kid' alongside Charlie Chaplin as the KID. This show has so many household names for it's time. I wish it would get syndicated and rerun on cable TV.
Interestingly, there was a law called California Child Actor's Bill (also known as Coogan Act or Coogan Bill) which came about in 1939 when Jackie Coogan, a very famous child actor at the time, had millions of dollars stolen by his mother and stepfather. The law was designed to safeguard a portion of the child actors earnings for when they reach the age of majority, and protect them from exploitation and abuse. Absolutely love The (original) Addams Family.

John Astin fell in love with Caroline Jones and Anjelica Housten for Raul Julia. Something about playing the roles causes real feelings to emerge.
I just love it when fester does the lightbulb trick
tis why they added it in the 80's reboot movie, i think it was a crowd favorite.
Cops: "We're on a manhunt"
Gomez: "Good night for it"
Such marvelous lines they had.
I love how they didn't want others to be too scared when they're trick or treating
"They were sent up the river!"
Always gets me when Gomez says that and Morticia immediately just says "Good...they needed a vacation!" XD
The fact Lisa Loring wasn't allowed to smile while filming, and Carolyn Jones trying to give her a good laugh off-set is just heartwarming
Gomez also admitting that Morticia's ex was handsome was cute asf.
Bisexual icon
@@garmadonsrightarms4434 Gomez and Morticia both seem like bi icons
They support each other through their past and present unlike typical sitcom/movie couples who belittle other Exes and past

I love how the Addams family are creepy but are not really evil.
People on the outside of their own household, would think otherwise, while on the show.
They all have such good manners, and speak so beautifully clearly and concisely. And the children are SO well behaved and obedient. Many a family could take a leaf out of the Addams family book( code of behaviour).
The Addams family is always so kind and gracious to everyone.
11:17 Morticia’s smile is just adorable!!!!!
13:12,my personal favorite moment of their relationship ❤️ "when we're together darling every night is Halloween "
Aaaah finally a functional family on TV before there was Married with Children.
Crazy that John Astin outlived the whole cast. He is the only one left alive.
Always loved the Addams Family since 1965. So happy to see it on You Tube. Morticia, Gomez and Uncle Fester know how to treat their guests!
We just rescued a kitty named Morticia and she loves watching these episodes with me before bedtime 💕🐱
Amazing!
Angela, Awwwwwwwwwww! That's So Sweet. 🐈🐾. God Bless. ☮
Awwwwwww! What an awesome kitty! And you are indeed awesome for rescuing. ❤❤❤
Great news indeed. Is it a lynx?
My mother’s nickname was Morticia in high school! I still call her Tish sometimes m, even though she pretends to be annoyed!
I'm surprised to see Don Rickles in this. May he rest in peace.
"When we're together darling, every night is Halloween." To me, that's relationship goals. I wanna find someone like that because I love Halloween and cosplay- Halloween's the best time of the year to me. :3 ❤
OMG YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish all year was Autumn! No joke.
💜🎃🔮🍁
Halloween is something we should all strive to embrace, the weather is nice albeit a bit nippy, the colors are both vibrant and ominous, and who doesnt enjoy dressing up? stiffs, that's who!
@@UltimateGamerCC "Mommy what do we call people who don't enjoy Halloween?" "Boring sweetie that's what we call them."
The Addams family always positive thinking
The script writers are so wonderful for such humor. I love the Addams Family. Listen to old school shows just to go to sleep. So organic
Each time Thing did something helpful, I just had to say “Thank you, Thing!”
Like Wednesday does.... she’s so cute
Me too, i just realised watching this episode that i always do it I just never noticed. Nice to know i'm not alone.
A party at the Addams family home should be fun. But I’d bring my own food and beverage for sure.
Same here!
Me, too!
I would love to attend a Halloween party at the Addams's home! I would definitely share my own Halloween poem with them!
It would be polite if you brought your own knife too in case there's a chance of a game of Autopsy.
No! Their food is a part of the fun
"Poor kitty is just terrified of ppl!" Can you imagine cleaning his litter box?😂
18:25 “‘Try it again!?!’ I would rather wrestle a lion!”
“Oh, would you? Wonderful. Kitty! Here, Kitty!”
I laughed so darn hard I fell on the floor!
Yeah, the Addams' had the lion, and the Munsters had a black cat that sounded like a lion. And Spot the dragon who lived under the stairs. Memories. (Jan Griffiths).
Future?
Just realized how much the Addams interior decor affected my own taste.
You paint your walls pink and yellow as well?
The first gothic couple on T.v
I used to have two peacock chairs, they were on my front porch and someone stole them
*Gomez is so adorable, I named a kitty Gomez after him, and he definitely fits his name*
I like how Gomez just sticks a lit match into his pocket at 10:42, that’s priceless-
The props department actually lined Gomez’s pockets with asbestos, that flame-retardant material always there to put out the match’s fire.
@@ullgeologist That’s amazing.
As the years pass, people could learn a lot from the Adams. Especially on how to treat eachother
Morticia is absolutely stunning….I wish more families were like the Adams, they are great people 🖤☺️
Gomez is adorable when he's jealous. ❤️💕
AMEN.;-)
Also, when he is re-acting to Morticia speaking "*Francais*".;-)))
PRICELESS.;-)))
I love how uncle Fester was so happy when he said "I just love Halloween"😂❤ pure
Nostalgia... And to think the Addams family house was actually entirely pink to render well in black and white (btw loved the hommage made in the animated movie towards the end with that pink house makeover hahaha)
I honestly prefer these Addams over the new movie. Especially Thing and Wednesday. She's more adorable here and I just prefer Thing popping out of boxes instead of being a disembodied hand.
I looked him right in the eye and said, "So kid, you getting free popcorn too!?" He burst out with a great big grin, looked me straight back in the eyes and said in his best Lurch growl..."Peeeeenut, mmmmmm and mmmmmm's!" Then me and him both started laughing together. The next day at school I became a seventh-grader 'important kid' and for a whole week! Everyone wanted to hear my story. Thanks Ted, RIP, okay?
You mean Ted Cassidy. Ted Williams was a baseball player.
@@zanti4132 How in the world did I write "Williams" when in my heart and mind I know it was Ted "Cassidy" I met that day! I'll fix it right now, and thank you!
I miss this. This was on when I was a kid (in the 90's and early 2000's, believe it or not) and my whole family loved it.
It is on now on Pluto tv now on a 24 hour Addams Family channel
I was watching it when I was a kid, in the 60's!
darkkitty645 Same, my sister and I use to watch this over at our grandparents how.
@@jazzcatt I am 66 now and have always had a "crush" on Carolyn Jones. Check out some of her earlier work in movies. She co-stared with Frank Sinatra in a few of them. She is hot.... hot..... hot..
@@jazzcatt Same here. I always thought the visitors were dumb to be so scared; if I ever went there, I'd love it! Maybe that's why I'm still a little weird. LOL
When we're together darling, every night is Halloween...BOOM...ahhh the punch is ready!
Helga Way to go Thing at 13:58! That bad guy didn’t even notice his pockets had been picked.
Now that was a kind of punch that could really pack a *punch*! XD
It's Halloween today !
watch this every week
I wore my Halloween t-shirt that day and my dad made a similar comment about everyday is Halloween to him! Mostly the shirt reminded him of all the strangely dressed people that shop at Wal-Mart everyday!
Such a wholesome family of good-natured, generous people. A nice family.
After all these years, I'm still laughing at their antics. Programs today have more swearing then entertainment. It's takes creativity to make program like these!
I always say this!! Gomez & Morticia are attractive!! Something about Gomez thats sooo charming ❤ & Mortitia's beauty is one of a kind ❤❤
My favorite romance and family!!!!
Too bad they don't so the full introduction with Gomez leering into the camera with that diabolical grin.
The children are cute too.
I am 66 now and have always had a "crush" on Carolyn Jones. Check out some of her earlier work in movies. She co-stared with Frank Sinatra in a few of them. She is hot.... hot..... hot..
The way she talks makes me fall in love with her. The tone the words shhh Querida mia
The Addams Family may be weird and spooky to some people, but they're really funny and likeable to everyone. ;D
Uncle Fester smiling is me at every school picture day....😂
Such a tripped out show. Best characters for it all. Perfect. Love every minute of these guys. Thanks. Great.
I know it's all 1960s fictional horror-comedy, but man, I envy this family! Imagine how wonderful Halloween (or any holiday they observe) is spent.
I just googled the actors on this show and found out Fester was played by Jackie Coogan. He was the original child actor and first starred in the silent film 'The Kid' alongside Charlie Chaplin as the KID. This show has so many household names for it's time. I wish it would get syndicated and rerun on cable TV.
rocknroller1986 holy cow, no way...
That kid looks so tiny and cute in chaplin
Pluto TV app used to have bingwatching of the Adams family
Opps still dose!
Absolutely love The (original) Addams Family.
it's incredible how well this show holds up
And the laugh track was not too obnoxious.
the Adams are too nice to know that they are being robbed
A weird and disturbing family, but who love each other more than any other sitcom and are very welcoming of others regardless. I love seeing the videos on why Gomez and tish have the best on screen relationship of any couple.
My favourite TV-series from the USA in the 60s! What nostalgic vibes! Morticia is so beautiful!
I gotta say - this is extremely good marketing for the new Addams movie. Glad that MGM dared to use new marketing tactics.
The Lurch groan should be an Addams family trademark.Love it.
I feel like MGM is reminding us that the Addams family used to be good
4:00 Morticia must have practiced that cookie falling off the plate several times. Looks natural.
10:34 One of the very few times you see Gomez lighting a cigar. He usually pulls one out of his pocket, already lit.
This is the kind of family I've always wanted, unconditional love and acceptance. 👻So much Positive Energy.😂 Genius writers, with mind blowing laughter.
This was one show that I loved the most when I was a kid. Still love it. Miss my old days.
MGM bombing us with Addams family episodes. I love it! 😍
Great way to promote the animated film of the Addams family in 2019
I grew up watching the Addams family and the munsters and so on
@@philliphancock6992 I like them both and I wish there's a crossover of them
@@jswatch9270 actually no, cause the more old episodes I watch the less I am exited for the movie😂
Meanwhile, Disney, being the morons they are, are putting all the classic Fox movies they own in their vault instead of flooding theaters with them.
MGM, thank you for posting these episodes online, it's brilliant to see good quality television viewing even if it's from 55 years ago, it still holds up and is as funny and entertaining as ever.
While eccentric, some of the most well adjusted nice people.
So loving, respectful, and friendly.
I want to have a Morticia chair of my own.
They still make those I think.
I saw one s free years ago at a consignment shop but I couldn't buy it. It kills me to this day.
