People are going to continue the trends inspired by the past 2 years of Coronavirus lockdowns, but this time by CHOICE: Baking breads at home; Making more home-cooked meals; Enjoying meals, movies, and 'old school' board/card games at home, with family and friends; Continue learning their new craft/hobby, be it sourdough, gardening, journaling, brewing, online schooling, etc; Continue to prefer outdoor dining in good weather {whether at home or in restaurants}; Continue exercising that isn't dependent on gym memberships, like walking, biking, playing basketball, swimming in public pools, etc; There'll now always be some musicians playing on their balcony..... LESS of shopping, dining out, replacing clothes yearly. So more of the relaxing, comfy, down-home activities with people you really care about, continuing to stimulate the mind through formal or informal education.... A re-focus on what's important and pleasurable in life.
Not going to lie my fiance was not stoked when I told her we were having cabbage stew for dinner but now I just watched her finish her 3rd bowl in 2 days. Thank you for helping us eat cabbage! This recipe is so tasty!
I love how casual and homey everything feels! Chemex on the stove top, Dyson in the back. Not staged at all, that's why I keep wanting more Home Movies!
I'm Polish so I feel like these ingredients already flow through my veins but thank you for a new stew! Your content honestly makes my life better, and then I get to eat it, I mean come on. Win win. Thank you
Great recipe! Trend prediction for 2022 - more people cook for themselves and let Ms. Roman be their guide. Olive oil, flat parsley, and anchovy stocks rise, and thankfully ketchup and mayo stocks plummet.
Just made it for the millionth time. I don’t actually need to refer to the recipe anymore, I just enjoy the body doubling of listening to this as I cook it!
Since you're the Queen of Anchovies (and everything food) will you ever grace us with your version of a Caesar Salad? I made the Dilly Bean Stew when you first released it in the newsletter and it's so good, will definitely make again before it gets too warm here to really crave stew.
I made this EXACTLY as is and my god I can't stop raving about it. I ve recommended it to everyone. The ingredients sound deceptively bad, beans onions cabbage, but come together in the most incredible way. Thank you Alison!
Better than bouillon is a HUGE staple in my fridge! Made awesome lentil soup with just simmering the vegetable kind with lentils and caramelized onions and a drizzle of lemon! Side note was really missing the content and can't wait to see what you have coming in 2022b
I have made this six times already. It's so simple and so good. I have a new love for dill and I'm one of those weird people who love cabbage, so it's perfect.
Hi Alison. I thought you would never return, it's been so long but it was worth the wait. Dilly Bean Stew looks fantastic and in these difficult economic times it's a real winner. Thank you
I just got it! At first I was like, WTF is a DILLY bean, not realizing you were talking about dill on some kind of bean. My wife has this bread maker recipe that has a bunch of dill in it. Yes, it was dill dough.
I just made this last night and I’m already like 2/3 done my pot of soup, it was AMAZING. Oh my gosh. As someone who doesn’t like creamy soups (I like a thin broth), I just skipped the butter and it was perfect for me. And the white vinegar, omg, brilliant. Delicious!!!!!
Alison Roman has become my go to when I want to find an easy and delicious dinner- so many great recipes and thankfully many vegetarian recipes- love it!
always love how easy and accessible your recipes are (not to mention fun to watch)! as a college student it makes planning my meals super fun and easy when I incorporate any of your recipes so thank you sm
I just made this stew for lunch and WOW! The fresh dill makes it dazzle and the vinegar at the end really brightens it. Excuse me while I go in for my second bowl. Alison, thank you from Princeton.
Made tonight. Love with an onion phobe, so no onions on top. But it was the literal best bean soup I have ever had in my life. Prior to watching your videos I had not owned a Dutch oven. Am in love with my Dutch oven. My trend prediction for 2022 is Dutch Oven.
I should know by know never to doubt Alison Roman. Who would have thought a stew made of white beans, cabbage and onion could be so good? And such an affordable meal to make too
I just made this and it's delicious, I used a mixture of chickpeas, cannelini beans and butter beans. I used savoy cabbage and also added some Tuscan kale.
I just made this stew tonight and added some sweet Italian sausage.Wow!!! So good. Please don't tell anyone I added sausage as I am Jewish. MY mother would have a break down.
First dinner I’ve made for my grandparents that my grandfather didn’t have anything sarcastic to say lol so that’s how you know it’s good! I added just a little labneh and soyrizo on top and served with a nice sourdough bread.
In all the years I have watched (and loved) your videos, what I find remarkable is how you manage such a tidy job on that freaking round cutting board lol
Just served this tonight for dinner…what a home run! It was delicious! And what a surprise the dill and vinegar is! Definitely a keeper recipe! Thank you Alison for sharing it with us.👏🤗
Tried this for the first time the other day with a garlicky chicken sausage I got from the farmers market, added some chickpeas, and swapped for apple cider vinegar at the end and don’t think I’ll ever eat another stew holy heck I love you recipes
Can attest to the goodness of this stew. Made it per her recipe the first time and it was divine. Made it with beef broth and weird beans the second time and it was still really good. Put bacon on top!
Hey, so it’s 2024. I have made this stew countless times since you first posted this video. It is a family favorite and my daughter swears that when she goes off to college she’s going to be making this all the time.
Really enjoyed this recipe. Easy and satisfying; like big warm hug in a bowl. I did top it with sour cream and I also topped it with toasted walnuts and I have zero regrets. It also reheats like a champ so it will be going into the winter comfort rotation!
YAYY so glad your back, I checked your channel last week to see if I was missing your videos but glad to see you took a nice break. Your love for dill never ceases to amaze me & cant explain the issue with roses? 🤣
I’m in Vermont where “dilly beans” definitely mean (delicious) pickled green beans. So I have to come up with another name for this stew which I’M GOING TO MAKE OFTEN BECAUSE IT’S SO DELICIOUS!! Thanks for this recipe!! In 2022, this stew will be trending in my family.
I made this recipe the other day and it was delish. I was also very surprised that a recipe involving beans, cabbage and onions did not produce a gas attack in my house. 😊
Okay so you have made me love this stew! You have helped me love different dishes I would not otherwise even give a second of my time. Thank you Alison. My family loves this!!
I made this the other night and I was shocked at how damn good this was! I never know what to do with cabbage, and this soup was SO easy, delicious, and flavorful that I will be making it again today, just days later!
A pill: My mom called me this. It was not a term of endearment. Beige: An underrated color. Frizzled red onions: Mrs. Frizzle’s hair (The Magic School Bus). Selflessness: Alyson Roman’s delightful video collection. ♥️
For some reason that I cannot explain -- I used 1/2 a cup of vinegar (apple cider was on hand that day) in this recipe, and it. was. gorgeous. I do like me some acid. TY for this great stew, A. R.!
Just made this for the first time and it was so good! I did use red cabbage, so it ended up looking like a witch's brew, felt more like Ursula than Ariel while making it
Allison, you should do an essential kitchen tools/appliances/always in stock ingredients one because your kitchen is not some dream land studio kitchen!
I love how your recipe are so versatile. I live in France where we don’t have better than bouillon so I would have used miso. I am not a fan of pickle juice 😅 instead I’d use lemon (and it goes great with dill and olive oil as well).
Omg I’ve binge watched all your videos and now I’m jonesing for more!!! I’m literally obsessed🤩 Got your book Nothing Fancy and it’s been fun making those dishes! 🙌🏼🍽💕
So happy to see you bringing us more Better Than Bouillon content. After a few previous mentions I ordered a couple of jars (chicken + veg) and you are absolutely right - nothing compares. Only problem being I live in Australia and it cost $50 AUD for 2 jars. So yes, expensive habit but I'm excited to give this one a crack! So glad you're back :)
I also fucked this up the first time I made it, before the video came out. It feels like your'e going too far, but ultimately, you just aren't. KEEP GOING. It's shocking.
Late to the game on this one but just made this recipe for the first time a few weeks ago and I think I've made it 3x already. It's SO good! I do prefer more broth so I only used 1 can of beans for the last 2 batches and just as delicious (for me). Thanks Alison!!
1.) Welcome back, Alison! I truly missed you, your energy, and your videos. 2.) Whoa, I can’t wait to make this beige deliciousness. 🍲 3.) Also, what’s your nail polish please?? 💅🏻
Wow! Sooo good and simple to make. I decided to caramelize the onions for a richer flavor (I don't like crunchy onions) and thought the stew was delicious before the vinegar and dill. After adding them, I thought it was good, but I think next time I'll just leave them out. Great vegan stew!
Just made your chicken, fennel and dill soup and it’s ridiculously delicious. I’m not a fan of dill usually but this one just intrigued me and now I’m looking for ways to use up the bunch. All recipes bore me, other than the Alison roman dill recipes :) thank you for inspiring me!
Thanks for watching! What are your 2022 trend predictions? 🌹🧈🍲🧥🧜♀️

made this stew tonight, and it was absolutely incredible. would love, love, love to see more plant based recipes like this one!
It’s 2023 and I haven’t stopped making this stew. Beans are your ministry 😂😂😂😂.
Wow 2022 starts with Home Movies’ new thumbnail! So chic!
thank you for noticing! :)

I love how you pick the most common ingredients (not exciting for someone), quite cheap and make something so delicious and trendy
Since you're the Queen of Anchovies (and everything food) will you ever grace us with your version of a Caesar Salad? I made the Dilly Bean Stew when you first released it in the newsletter and it's so good, will definitely make again before it gets too warm here to really crave stew.
i just might!!
@@alisoneroman I 2nd the Ceasar Salad idea
Oh yeah, we should do this
Alison that would rock! Neiman Marcus style and you could feature white anchovies or a variety. Flex your anchovy knowledge!
I want this Caesar Salad so, so badly

i caught covid the second week of january and made four of alison's soups over 10 days. the stews got me through!
I love how silly you are, Alison! Watching you cook brings me joy and laughter!
I've made this stew 4 times in the last 2 weeks! It's soooo good. I've added carrots for a little color and texture. Definitely a keeper
