Indeed. Some cars, I'd say, are even more iconic in their 4-door versions: Lincoln Continental in its mid-60's, convertible version, is one. Likewise, the Thunderbird sedanof the same era, replete with its "suicide doors," a throwback to the fine horse-drawn carriages of 100 years earlier. Yes! Then, we have this fine Buick Electra 225. Excellent. I had one myself: a 1973 4-door 4-barrel 455 Electra workhorse, from 1994-96), sigh. There's nothing like being crowded on a highway, doing, say.. 58, mph & pushing that accelerator forward, the car shifts down automatically to 2nd gear, and that beauty takes off from that speed like a rocket leaving terra firma. Even better if you have all 4 windows rolled down (no pillars between the doors, separating front from back), just your own picture-window view. Cheers for this man and this beautiful Buick. One does feel--and with good reason--that life is sweeter having one!

I LOVE four door sedans. Great proportions and so easy to get in and out of with the short doors. You can take the whole family and friends and all the stuff you need. Classy, drive beautifully, and you’re not riding with the luggage like in a wagon or suv.

Buick began to down size the Electra 225 in 1977. The early 70s were even bigger than the 69. Bigger body....bigger motor-455.

    • @curbozerboomer1773
      @curbozerboomer1773 ปีที่แล้ว +3

A recent article in a well-known car magazine stated that Buick, over the last 50 years or so, compiled the best reliability record of the entire GM line...and you can see and hear the quality of this beautiful barge!...I have owned three Buicks, and I am convinced that people who bought Cadillacs back then, simply wanted the extra name prestige of that make...but Buicks were simply a little better...Funny that Lou kept mentioning the smoothness--back in the late 50s/early 60s, Buick had posters made up that said "We are the smoothest cars made"...another poster said, "When better cars are built, Buick will build them!"...They really meant that!..BTW. that 430 four-barrel engine is considered to be the best Buick V8 of the bunch...they were in high demand by drag racers/hot-rodders for many years, due to their strength and modification abilities. Lou did not mention it, but that engine shown was rated at 360hp...My dad had a Wildcat (67) that he bought new...it truly was a very responsive, powerful car, being measured at doing 0-60 in around 7.7 seconds....that car lasted 24 years, and logged 320,000 miles, without any power train issues--just two sets of U-joints.

The 69-70 LeSabre/Electra were the best full size Buicks of that era. The 71-on did not have the interior quality and were just bigger not better. The 65-68 full sizes were also very nice but peaked with the 69-70 design. Thanks for showing this car.

My Dad bought one of these new in 1969, it was a 2 door, light metallic green, beige vinyl top, with a light beige, 2 tone interior. Fully loaded, it was a beautiful car! We both loved it! He held on to it longer than any other car he ever bought. Traded it in 1980 for a new Buick Riviera. He was a Cadillac, and Buick guy. When my parents divorced in 1963, mom got the current car, a 1958 cadillac they bought in 1960. I was 1 year old then.. She never sold it much to my delight, and gave it to me in 1982. Its still on the road, thanks to being a lifelong Southern California car, and my checkbook!! Lol. This is a wonderful example of these cars. And congratulations to the owner for taking such excellent care of it. It is a treasure!

This car takes me back to the early 70's when a friend of my parents drove one. I was amazed how she handled that car. It was huge! And she was short! I had plenty of room to sit and take in the scenery. Like I said earlier she handled that " Deuce and a Quarter ".
But the ultimate surprise came 5 years later when she came rolling up to the house in a brand new '76 Electra. I was in love with it. It too was huge ( The last of the big ones )! That particular model, especially in 2 door remains my favorite Buick.

'Driving a living room'. That works :) Nice car !!
The 430 4 bbl is a big motor. This car needed it ! Luckily, cars weren't too smogged down yet. This i'm sure can get out of it's own way ;)
Mid '70s, i'm introduced to a guy by a mutual friend because we both played guitar.
Got along well, jammed some and became friends.
A few years later, he wrecks his first car, a nice '64 Buick Skylark. Replaces that with a '72 Skylark two door. His dream car was a GS Stage !. This was at least the same style. Nice car.
Wrecks that, too. Nearly dies. This was mid '80s.
Next car, a '72 Electra 225. Felt safer in something bigger.
I don't know what happened to this (got sick ? no wreck) but he shows up with a car just like the one here. This was '91 or so.
Black on black. Pretty awesome. Drifted apart in the mid '90s so....he had it then. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if he still had it. He really dug this car.
Thanx for the memories, Lou !! Another great offering !

Thank you, Lou and Alan. Alan, you sure chose a beautiful car here and your care for it is impeccable. This vintage of Buick were excellent cars for a number of reasons. One reason based on my experiences, is that for years the full-size Buick was a better car than Cadillac. Cadillac's were built for the first owner and after a couple/few years they start having problems. Whereas that wasn't so for the big Buick's, and probably the lesser Buick's too. Another reason is that in 1971 GM cheapened the structural design and their full-size cars and that change resulted in a looseness in the frontal portion that was noticeable going over bumps. They were no longer the very solid car that you have here. And still another reason is that GM was using good hardware during the time your car was built, door handles, latches, mountings, as well as well-made added equipment such as the Frigidaire A/C.
Alan, I can tell that you value this car for what it is, you're not the kind of guy that is looking to make changes to it. I'm a purist so originality is key for me, and while the loud exhaust isn't my thing, I have to say that this beauty couldn't have a better owner than you.

I can see why they make seats a lot more uncomfortable now. People were very likely falling asleep at the wheel. It had the big 455 with a mindblowing 250 horsepower!!!! I remember those Buicks when I was little! A neighbor of mine from many years ago had a '70 Electra 225 two-door hardtop with a 455 V-8 (a bored - or was it stroked? - 430 V-8). Those were the days! Buicks were wonderful cars back then; now, when you go to a Buick dealer, all you'll find there are crossover vehicles. And the Enclave is the only true American-built Buick left! And I love the way the owner described his car as an "Electra Two Two Five" (not Two Twenty-Five as we're used to calling it). Anyway, thanks again Lou, and keep those videos coming! _(10/9/2022)_

I'm sure someone pointed out in the comments that the large brochure you flipped through was for the 1970 models. The small one is for '69. I'm sure Alan can dig up a large one if he looks around. I had 3 boxes full of late 60s - early 70s brochures. Had to dump them when my mother sold our house back in 2016. This all said, a neighbor down the block had a virtually identical 225 which he bought new, having traded a better looking (in my opinion) '66 Wildcat. This car was too big to sit in his relatively small driveway, I always thought. He kept it for maybe 6-7 years. My observation, though, is that this family was neat as a pin. Their house was a showplace (as the old song goes) and their cars look as good on their last day (always clean and dent-free) as they did on their first. And so I used to see this car every day for a number of years. Too big for my taste, but I guess majestic would be the word.

Waddacar! My parents had a '70 Electra Limited Coupe. Fabrics and appointments far eclipsed an equivalent Cad. First time driving it I was getting on the Interstate and mom said "romp it!--and prepare to be pressed back into your seat." It took off like a ruptured duck. Quite possibly Buick's finest moment--worthy of old money--graceful, elegant, powerful, well mannered, no need to impress. Would love to find one but not being a mechanic probably not the best candidate to own a classic car. And finding an Electra Limited Coupe now? Better luck finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Dad owned several Buicks, but nothing ever approached the '70. (Also couldn't find any stats as to how many '70 Limited Coupes mfd. had this trim package.)

I had a 69 Electra 225 Custom that was ALMOST IDENTICAL to this one with the only difference being the engine in mine was painted red. Same color body, and roof same interior. IDENTICAL. That car got 25+ mpg on the highway at 65-70 mph, and had AMAZING power for its size - it could put down about 250-300 get of rubber, surprised more tan a few Mustangs and Camaros, and would bury the 120 mph speedometer with ease. More than once being young and stupid, my friends and I timed it with the stopwatch mode on their wristwatches at from 22 to 24 seconds between the mile markers on the side of the highway. I regret how badly I abused that car and wish I still had it, but being a dumb kid, I didn’t realize what I had. It eventually succumbed to an electrical fire under the dash and had the engine and transmission pulled out and the rest got scrapped. It still brings a tear to my eye thinking about how foolish I was.
