No reason to buy this car. What in reality is special about it. The dealership thinks the car is worth more than it really is. I worked at a Buick dealership in 87-88 and we couldn't give these cars away. They were way too expensive at the time. There was NO demand for these cars from the dealership I worked at.
He probably couldn't get $70,000 for it today. He should have sold it back in the day instead of being greedy and now thinking a car that has sat for over 30 years and has hardly been driven is worth over 100k. I'd rather have one with some miles on it that somebody drove and took car of over this "new" one. A lot of stuff will need replaced from it sitting for so long. It may seem like it runs ok now but once you starting driving it a lot of leaks and problems would start happening.
My dad owned and was the GM of a few dealerships when I was a kid. Those were my fondest memories. This guy I bet feels the same way. Great video, Jay.
Rocco Jacobs on the one hand, it’s easy for Leno to say, since he can replace anything and has more cars than God. But, I’ve always liked that Jay doesn’t have that attitude (in fact, he sometimes mocks it), because cars are meant to be driven.
@@HoyaSaxaSD I think Jay's comments also mock a bit this sense people have that, because a car is rarer or more valuable, somehow it is more likely for something bad to happen to it. In the end, you drive, as you would drive "a car" and you should be fine. Hopefully... :D
My buddy inherited his dads 87’ GN back in 1998 when he turned 18. He sold it in 2014 for a down payment on his house and he’s been trying to find that GN so he can buy it back to put in his garage. i would guess they want around 200k for this car. as in 2015 at palm beach another GNX with 400 miles was sold for 165k. are u shure u would pay this much?
@Bo Oliver Exactly, even cars he bought brand new decades ago have minimal miles on them. Even if he was driving all of them evenly, they'd still be minimally used. He's got about 180 cars and 160 motorcycles. Also this GNX would've had vast numbers of people see it in their car sales yard/building, as opposed to in a private collection.
True and even with all his money he still didn't want it. Which goes to show that it is nowhere near as desirable as the owner thinks it is. I'd like to know how much he is asking. I'm sure it is outrageous. Probably 100k+

possibly the funniest comment i've ever heard!! LMAO, I've owned so many musclecars & drove them all a lot, went to National speedway, & Bridgehampton racetrack, some should sit most should just be driven JMHO.
He probably thought about it, but a car that has been sitting and driven that rarely for that many years, has serious rubber fitment issues. Rubber parts get dry and start to crack and lose thier ability to seal when they aren't heated, lubricated and exercised on a regular basis. All the rubber on that car is going to need replacing.
It was kept indoors, not exposed to direct sunlight (Showroom windows are VU blocking) which, along with ozone is what degrades rubber, also they most likely also treated the tires with protectant on a regular basis.
@@duanewirsing3299 I was just about to say the same thing lol They can't honor it because they got none of the parts to fix it anymore. Although I do wonder if they somehow had to honor the warranty if they would try and make a deal with an aftermarket seller on parts.
The customer's warranty doesn't start until the date of sale. Unless GM has some kind of clause. A couple years ago, at the Ford dealer I work for, we sold a Fiesta that was already 3 years old. The warranty did not start until the date of sale. Edit: I just saw the part about the warranty. Too bad.
I feel the dealer was really hoping jay would buy it. Towards the end of the video you can see his facial expression changes when Jay hopes he will sell it.
I remember seeing this car at their dealership in February 2014. I had went along with my next door neighbor who had gone in and purchased a brand new 2014 GMC Sierra and they had this GNX sitting in the showroom. As my neighbor closed the deal with the Sierra...one of the other salesman was talking to me about how they never sold the car and has never been registered and that it had been in their possession since 1987. He mentioned that at one point someone had offered about $200k for the car..and they still did not take the money. The only "damage" it had was a small dent on the hood. About the size of a dime. A customer's kid threw something up in the air and landed on the hood. I cant remember what it was exactly.. Making the small dent. I never noticed the dent..even when he told me where it was..he had to put his finger on the dent for me to see it. So that's how small it was. And no paint damage. They probably fixed it with paintless dent removal by now. To keep the car in "running" shape..they would "drive" the car around the property of the dealership. All the time being nervous not to hit a car or be hit by someone else. So it never hit the streets. Now that it's up for sale some 5 years later...it's going to be interesting to find out how much it sold for. But since 5 years ago they didn't take $200K... I'm wondering how high it's going to be sold for. Who knows..back then they didn't want to sell it..so no offer was considered. No matter how high it was. Now that it's actually for sale..it might agree to let it go for less than the $200k that was last offered. I hope I hear how much it finally went for. That is a beautiful car...especially seeing it in pereson. It was very well preserved over the past 30 years.

That few miles more him and Jay drove is not going to decrease the value of a car dramatically, if the car had 143 miles on it and they put 20 more the price will be the same.
I’m here because of Kendrick’s new surprise album. 🤣
The owner says he didn't want to drive it to the garage and Jay says "it's a car". Jay is such a cool down to earth dude.
Some people prefer to fly their car
Yeah that's the problem with Jay fans. They somehow misconstrue him getting what he wants and talking over people, with being "cool" and "down to earth". It's weird.

No reason to buy this car. What in reality is special about it. The dealership thinks the car is worth more than it really is. I worked at a Buick dealership in 87-88 and we couldn't give these cars away. They were way too expensive at the time. There was NO demand for these cars from the dealership I worked at.
That engine sound when Jay started the car is heavenly.
If you bought this car for 2019 dollars with the 1987 sticker price, because of inflation the car would cost $66,576.95.
