I'm surprised the seller didn't try to refurbish it by opening it up, replacing the thermal pads, replacing the thermal paste, and cleaning up the insides with isopropyl. Could have sold it for more perhaps.
been using that card for 3 years now. The card has dual bios. It got a bios switch at the top of the pcb. Should've checked first it the other bios chip was left at default. Saves you the time flashing it. Also how's your temps? The card is loud and hot at least on my set-up. I couldn't bear the temps which is hovering at high 70's at almost max fan speed so I bought a cheap gpu copper block. Hacked the stock heatsink so I can still install the vrm sinks which originally is connected to the gpu plate. Bought a pci fan bracket so I got active cooling directly pointed at the vrm area. I'm already running a WCS so integration is pretty easy. I barely go past 50c after that. Was able to oc it at 1330/1825. Don't want to push it further cause the card got only 1 6-pin and while gaming the card at that oc is going past 150w
if you watch tech yes city he will show you how to force the 470 bios back using CMD in admin rights so it actually has the correct bios if you so chose to do so.
I got a box of these for $50 and they are MSI branded with a single DVI port mining edition. I wanted to see about flashing it to the sapphire bios or something? Does the brand matter or just the RAM version matter?
Thanks! Do they DISPLAY when on mining vbios or compute only? I know there are mining-only GPUs with only analogue cable out (maybe some with no output). Never been sure if needed to use integrated graphics or a separate GPU to flash mining BIOS gpus... I've bought a couple of ex mining cards before but all with normal bios... thanks!
These ones did output a display, probably using the Microsoft basic display driver, BUT I've had past cards that didn't display anything and you needed other graphics to flash. These ones could have been done with no additional graphics.
Does giving it a "stock bios" mean it just becomes a normal gpu? I'm sorry I'm new to this and saw a rx 470 4gb nitro+ for $70 and wanted to know. Also I see people say you can put a rx 570 bios on it, how is that possible?
Hello, great context. Recently i have bought a second hand powercolor rx 470 (single fun) red dragon, and i had to flash new bios on it. Anyway I did it and now when i try to play games (csgo/Lol) after a couple of minutes my pc freeze and black screen occurs but i still am able to hear music and control my 'avatar'. I have tried new windows, ddu drivers and installing again, cleaned PC from dust. I have asus p7h55-m motherboard, 16gb ram, 550w psu, i7 870 cpu. If someone have solution please help. I apologize for grammatical errors

u need to force it via cmd I use this tutorial, m.th-cam.com/video/8UOAUxOdZb4/w-d-xo.html I managed to flash my rx 470 D version to regular rx 470 ,unlocking unified shader from 1792 to 2048
bought rx 470 4gb started the pc everything was okay installed drivers did some benchmarks browsed and then started a game and the screen went black did a restart started other games sam results plz 😭 save me.
you find us miners run the cards under-clocked and under-volt to draw less power along with all ways been run cool so they have been streesed less then if they had been gaming for all that time
I can vouch for eBays customer service, I bought a Socket 1155 motherboard with a 3 month warranty. I opened a case, the seller got rather rude/arsey with me, accused me of trying to get a refund and a replacement, despite me saying several times "I dont want both" in messages. Phoned eBay customer service, was through within 5 mins, explained, they looked at the messages and gave me a refund. 10/10.
These ones yes, but some cards I've had in the past the answer was no. If nothing else, you could find the absolute cheapest GPU out there and use it for graphics while you flash the bios.
Bought an Asus RX 580 8gb for $75 from Craig's a few months back. However kinda scared to use it.. back of circuit board has what looks like water/burn type of marking. Best way to describe is like when wood soaks up water, how that looks but on metal.. thoughts? Or can ya recommend how to proceed?
How were you able to tell that the card had the mining bios on it and not the gaming bios?

I bought CHEAP rx470 and had no idea why driver doesn't install properly
after switching bios by your advice everything runs great)))
Can you share your experience on running the gpu the first time with the mining bios? What software you use to check the vbios?
I got one and didn't notice any problems till after the 30 days was up for returns
Did you change the thermal paste or used it as is?

Yep, putting the stock bios back on these cards makes them function as gaming cards as they did before miners put a special bios on them.
