    My favourite Cadel moment was after a rainy stage win in the Tour of Alberta. I was waiting for an autograph while he was waiting to go through the anti doping process. It was raining, and my 2 year old was splashing in a nearby puddle. Cadel watched him and smiled, telling me how he reminded him of his own son. After the press conference he stopped in the hallway so we could get a picture of him with my kids. Such an absolute gentleman.

      @Paul Wieringa Have you ever met a cyclist Paul? I mean if you are one you are also probably boring and emotionally stunted, people who aren't don't usually do solitary sports involving hours by themselves. There are exceptions ofc.

    Super proud to be working with Cadel in developing the latest superbikes. He's a legend and such a great guy! He sure is in great shape, helping to push my 91 kilo fat bottom over some tricky Jura mountains last summer.

    cant remember the stage but in the tour against andy schleck! possibly the best stage ever. schleck went flat out from the bottom of the climb but cadel slowly got some time back nearer to the top. he didnt win but it was a display of determination and general 'hard bastardery'

    Ultimate cycling pro geek! If it were possible to DQ riders regardless of when they test positive (or finally admit to it) , then Cadel has another 2 TDF titles... 2005 he finished 8th and all above him have or had been caught doping. 2007 second to Alberto “clem” ontador. An additional 2nd place would be awarded in 2006... and like 2008 was beaten by another clean rider Carlos Sastre.
    Clean in Cadels case is a little tainted... he was implicated with Dr Ferrari in 2005 ... apparently nothing stuck...

    Cadel Evans is undoubtedly a cycling legend, but come on, a Giro legend?!
    A single stage win, 1 victory in the points classification and a 3rd, a 5th and an 8th place in the GC hardly makes a legend, does it?
    The bar is a little bit higher than that, to me at least. Even post-2000 there's Mario Cippolini, Alessandro Petacchi, Gilberto Simoni, Paolo Savoldelli, Ivan Basso, Alberto Contador, Paolo Bettini, Stefano Garzelli...

    • @DJ-qi4ry
      @DJ-qi4ry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      andrew7taylor Cippolini! Giro legend? Nope, he never ever finished the race only winning the first weeks flat stages especially made for him by the organisers.

    • @jakobjarle4597
      @jakobjarle4597 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D J I would say that makes Cipollini even more of a legend. Being able to win to most stages in the Giro history without finishing the race 😂 having a smoke to open up the lungs before going for the sprint. 😂 totally mental! That would never work nowadays. I would also say that the racing format is a bit to blame for this. Why should Cippo even try to go up Mortirolo or any other Giro climb if he knew he would not make the time limit and all the sprint stages where already done. Scandals and everything, you can’t say that Cipollini isn’t a Giro legend.

    • @andrew7taylor
      @andrew7taylor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DJ-qi4ry Pretty sure it's more important what he did rather than what he didn't do regards to becoming a legend.
      Pretty sure that he has finished the Giro 6 times, won the points competition 3 times and won 42 stages, more than anybody in the history of the race.
      Pretty sure that not just GC riders can become legends, but all the other types of riders if they get enough results. Just because climbing wasn't his forte so usually he didn't finish GTs to allow him to dominate races later in the year doesn't make him a worse rider, just different.
      I'm also pretty sure that flat stages have always been a part of cycling because that's where cities are. When Alfredo Binda won the Giro for the 5th time in 1933, 8 of the 17 stages were completely flat stages. Were those made especially for Cipollini too, 40 years before he was born?
      Plus there's the matter of personality. Peter Sagan has won the same amount of Monuments as Niki Terpstra, Alexander Kristoff, John Degenkolb or Simon Gerrans did. Yet, he's bigger in the history of cycling than any of them. Why? Because he's a larger than life type of guy.
      Cippo was a bigger deal than any rider in the 90s and early 2000s because he wasn't just a champion, but he looked like a champion and he acted like a champion, too. He always had something up his sleeve, muscle skinsuits, zebra, techno and Roman gladiator jerseys. Even to this day, leaders of the GC in GTs ride colour-matched bikes and equipment and sprinters ride behind leadout trains only because Super Mario invented them.
      Pretty sure that's enough contribution to make someone a legend!

    • @christopherbeattie263
      @christopherbeattie263 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakobjarle4597 Yeah spot on! Cipo deserves a mention for the shear amount of doping he managed to get away with.
      Maybe the GCN definition of 'legends' doesn't include cheaters. Strange huy?

    • @simongoh9461
      @simongoh9461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2nd in 2007 TDF to Contador. There was plenty of doping then and Contador certainly doped during his time. 2nd in 2008 to Sastre may be harder to argue as Carlos never tested positive and to many in the peleton like Evans was one of the clean guys. Sastre had Riis as his DS and Tyler Hamilton on his team raises eyebrows though. Loyalty was a key demand from Riis in that CSC 08 tour team. I would be suprised if there wasn't at least 1 rider on Cadel's 07 & 08 teams that wasn't juiced, but you can't directly blame Cadel or any other team leader if they didn't know about it.

    All those years while Lance was climbing those huge mountains at a ferocious pace who was always one of the last few contenders right on Lance's wheel. Cadel that's who. But sure, even though Lance was super gifted and full of drugs Cadel could ride with him on pure ability. Well over here I have the tower of London for sale. I'm sure you will buy it because clearly you will buy anything. Cadel like Froome and Wiggins are a disgrace to the sport. Lemond was the last true clean champion.

      Why not have a presenter challenge on the correct pronunciation of classic cycling terminology? A native speaker from respective languages could be the final arbitrator. I'm guessing it would be a close call between Lloydy and Ollie. Hank has no chance but would be a huge laugh.
