Geometry - Isosceles triangles, practice and proof

Dear Isosceles triangle, thank you for being considerate enough to have at least two sides and two angles congruent. So many triangles can be so inconsistent, but you're just more reliable. In the last example, the 2-column proof, you marked AB and BC as congruent simply because Isosceles triangles have 2 congruent sides. Without any background information, couldn't any 2 sides of the triangle ABC be congruent, and we just don't know, so we shouldn't assume? I.e. AC ≅ BC, or BA ≅ CA, etc.
