The backside of the block I live in, poorly lit by the orange streetlights, it rained all day but, now, long after midnight, it's only windy and silent. I'm all alone in there, I can go wherever I want and the whole city will be just like that: empty, full of night and the smell of wet asphalt. This is exactly what this song makes me feel like.

The song and scene brings a feeling when you know taking one step will send you to a way that you can’t turn around. I’m sure Motoko was excited and nervous about what the Puppetmaster had in store and the identity that she needed to find would have better light afterwards. Deep down wanting to find a place where she had no suspicions on her identity but to truly feel alive and herself.

I can relate! I had heard of Ghost in the Shell for a while, maybe over a year or so before I actually watched it. I think I learned how there is a distinct difference between knowing of a movie that is praised, and actually sitting down to watch and experience said movie. I'm glad I gave it the chance to actually leave an impression on me. Now I actually know why it has remained in some conversations and circles to this day, and it has brought me to a new understanding of our world and this community of people who also appreciate this film. 😁

The people who make/direct anime in the modern world are completely out of touch with the core roots that allowed great pieces like this to exist - it is an industry kept afloat by people who grew up consuming anime, and they seek to create the new by regurgitating the superficial aspects of the medium. For example, when people ask 'how can I make works like Nausicaa by Miyazaki', they seek only to make things look and feel like the media they have consumed that they think evokes that material, go and study at university in illustration and animation, yet the overlook the fact that Miyazaki graduated from university with degrees in political science and economics.
As Miyazaki said, many people in the anime industry cant make humans because they cant stand to look at other humans. How can we possibly expect anyone in this day and age to truly say something that speaks to something deeper if their entire lives consist of digital consumption, as it necessitates due to industry pressures?

Holy shed, it was the most cyberpunk meal I've ever had!

@@MrMaddox57 Our current postmodern world is already a dystopia, just not in its final form yet. We already have places with extreme social inequality like Brazil. We already have very poor countries like Venezuela. We already have extremely authoritarian/technological countries and with a many monopolies dominating the entire productive and social sector of the whole society, such as China and the trillion dollar giant BlackRock. We already have countries with a totally consumerist, scientistic and relativist worldview like the USA and Europe. If people are now able to change sex by phenotype, why would the idea of people start to consider themselves robots go too far?

@@SunsetEnds We also have the internet, military tech is crazy, AI is starting to take jobs. Like you said we live in the early stages of a Cyberpunk dystopia, cyborg bodies is the one thing we don't have and would have to see major breakthroughs to be a thing this century.
