I think you two are extremely gracious and humble to answer questions like this. Personally I think you guys are living in God’s blessings and grace and you are doing an awesome job!!👏👏 Praying always for your family! Thank you for sharing your journey with us! ❤
I agree with Alyssa .. Vacation is staying at a resort / hotel not with family . If you wait any longer to take your kids to vacation after they grow up it will be too late for poor Allie !
I asked my entire family, and we all agree, you have only been on family trips. A family vacation is VERY different!! Alyssa did a very good job explaining the difference between the two. This isn't even a gray area, this discussion is very black and white when when differentiating between a family trip and a family vacation. We love you and your family. You are the best mom ever, Alyssa! 💗
Also, John wanting to wait until the children are older is crazy. There are so many great vacations you could do as a family now. Also, your kids are a wide age range. If you wait until Rhett is older, Ali will be a teenager. You will be missing out on so many family memories.
Yes, Alyssa is right. When we were kids the only time we went anywhere was to visit family. Our time was dictated by what the family is doing. A vacation is going to a destination for the destination, not to visit family.
Word to the wise that I wouldn’t spend money on experience vacation wait until they’re 5. I was amazed ADHD child made it to Cancun at age 5 or 6. I would imagine that the older girls would love time with mom and dad. A vacation could be as simple as renting a like beach air b&b. Being in the middle of the USA we like to rent out lakeside cabins John; sorry but Alyssa is right.
I’m old…our family vacations when I was a child was tent camping. 5 kids plus mom and dad. Often. Affordable and honestly I have the best memories! ⛺️ 🎣 🏊♂️ campfire, floating the river. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Vacations are the best gift you can give your kids. My daughter has been all over her short time already at 3 years old. It establishes good growth and character.
I agree with John. I grew up in a family of 8. The only vacation we ever went on was to visit family out of town, but we always considered that family vacation.
I'm with John, definitely counts as vacation. My family is (& was when I was a kid) spread all over & now i have fam in another country. I don't remember going on any vacations that didn't involve seeing family (some family member, usually was aunt/uncle ...but not always). We often stayed at whoevers family members house. We may not have stayed at their house the whole time. But we definitely incorporated family into almost all our vacations. Dad/mom would have us go off & see/do things (with & without those fam members) away from their house. So to me seeing family, when visiting them requires significant travel (like more than just a couple hrs drive) definitely counts as vacation. But I have also been told our fam was different in that we had so many spread out across so many states 🤷♀️. So if we don't count those times visiting family, guess then I've never been on vacation 😂.
I love seeing John's personality really show in these vlogs. And I enjoyed hearing more about Rhett's personality. I had never seen that side of Rhett show through on the vlogs. I love your family and your weekly vlogs.
I have to agree with Alyssa. I think there is a difference between a family vacation and a "trip" with kids to visit family. This was a fun Q&A!! Cracked up when John was telling about Rhett's manly grunt....too funny. You two are the cutest. I always enjoy your content.❤
Alyssa is correct about the family vacations. Visiting family is NOT a vacation. Even though you’re in another state or away from home, and having fun visiting family. But that’s not what vacation is! 😂
I agree with both of you!! As long as you are away from the house and out of Florida you are on vacation!! Dont wait. Make memories now!! Allie is getting older and shouldn't have to wait.
Girl you got a loft and open space above the girls school room. You have plenty of space to add 2 more rooms!!! Do it! PS. Love your family and the positive content you put out into the world!! Hugs from CA!
I think the speculations meant like taking kids to zoo, trampoline park or fun activities besides coop and church classes ! Something as a family you all could enjoy
Hi John, hi Alyssa, it’s aunt Christi. I’m Gill‘s third cousin twice removed (in my head) I’m here to weigh in on the topic of defining a vacation As a woman who has been married for 33 years, I have some pretty solid opinions about vacations When my husband worked for United States border patrol, he was at work, literally all the time. If he got more than three days off together, we would have to do the absolute most with it. And because we lived away from both of our families, and we were the couple with no little kids, we were always the ones to travel and see everybody Technically, at work that time is called vacation time and yes, technically we did leave town and go someplace. And technically, we would plan fun little things to do here and there during those travel trips, but the trips themselves had a dual purpose. As obligatory family commitments. It took us 23 years to finally treat ourselves to a real actual “leisure“ vacation with no other agendas, besides disconnecting from the daily stress and being at ease As a woman for me, that means staying somewhere that I am treated. I love a hotel or a resort. For me, it is such a treat to be in a nice space that I am not responsible for cooking anything, cleaning anything, And doing all of those things that I do every single day at home. Which is why I have always resisted the urge that many of my peers have given into of buying or even renting a motorhome for vacations. This is a trap, Alyssa. Basically, you’re just going to be doing the exact same full list of chores as you do at home only with different scenery out the window. This is not a vacation for you at all. Please take me to a hotel with complementary clean towels that I don’t have to wash. Extra pillows that I can pile as high as my little heart desires. Delicious food that I don’t have to plan the meal shop for the ingredients prepare the meal, do the dishes, etc. etc. etc. For a woman, these are only a couple of examples of a true vacation.
It's not a vacation when you go to visit family. So yes, I agree with Alyssa. A vacation is when you take a trip to do something just for the sole purpose of enjoying an outing, like to the mountains or the beach.
Mom of 5 kids here, I 100% wanted each and everyone and would have more if I could 😅 but there are negatives sometimes and the biggest one is being needed by them all constantly, and not always being able to meet the needs the way I want. It’s dividing myself by 5 and always wanting to give more and be more for each child. Honestly my biggest reason for being done, it’s hard to be stretched thin. Also why I think bates family is so interesting to people, Kelly jo and Gil seem so good at being there for all their kids and I’m in awe of that.
Just a thought.... Take the three oldest on a mini vacation (3-4 days) and let the 2 youngest stay with family. (Like Dollywood, Seaworld, etc...) The oldest will prize those memories and the two little ones will love the extra attention. All to often I see older children as adults say they felt like they missed out on doing things because of their younger siblings. It is surprising to see how this influences their life choices as adults... It sticks with them.
I agree with Alyssa on vacations. However, I can see combining an event with seeing the area either before and after, like if you go out of town for a wedding.
Vacation is when you go and visit family that lives in another state and it is also a planned trip to a destination with planned activities, it can also be just a spontaneous trip just to relax. As long as you have your children and/or family there it is a family vacation.
Visiting family can be a vacation if it’s for leisure. If you're helping out and have responsibilities like Alyssa said, that's not a vacation but it's still nice family time. It depends on the purpose of the visit.
John is right. My kids are grown. Their best memories of our family vacations growing up are our yearly trips to visit family, and playing with their cousins. We went on other trips too, Disneyland, ocean trips, etc., but the family trips win out.
as far as the downside of having 5 kids- as a mom of 5 myself- I think what Alyssa meant was its good FOR THE KIDS when they're close in age but its harder FOR THE MOM when they're close in age lol. I always say the same thing. mine are 16, 13, 19, & 25 months apart so they're VERY close in age- 5 kids born in 6 years. its heartwarming seeing them play the same games, like the same toys, watch the same shows, they all go to the same school, they share friends, etc, so in that respect its awesome having them close together but its obviously much harder having 3 kids in diapers, 3 potty training, learning to walk, talk, crawl, etc. as someone who is an entire generation 10 years removed from my siblings I knew I would prefer to have my own kids close together. but there's defiantly certain trade offs you make with either choice.
I love that her & John’s family get together every week. I wish they wasn’t so shy it’d be awesome to see more of his godly family hanging out with the kids in the vlogs. ❤
I love that yall dress up for church!!! I agree to each his own. However, I was raised to give my best to the Lord. So for me, personally, I still dress up for church.
John is right on, as.a Navy brat our family vacations were always going to see our family in Washington State, where both my parents were from. My dad would take his 30 days a year at once and we’d go see them. Dad was stationed in SanDiego so we spent a lot of time going to Disneyland, Sea World, the Zoo and the beach, Mission Bay. When dad retired we moved to Washington and saw Mt. Saint Helens blow. We went skiing all the time and went to the beach, go rafting. John😂 a vacation is where Alyssa doesn't do what she does at home😂 So, like a hotel room, clean towels everyday, she diesnt make a bed, clean the room, cook, wash clothes, etc. 😁 ✌ Please update us on your vacation plans :)
Great family vacation we went on this summer (youngest was 10 months) was the Dunes Hotel, North Myrtle Beach, SC. Lots of kid activities, pool areas for all ages inside and out, and beach accessible. Nice because it was not downtown Myrtle Beach where it is much busier but fun to visit. Also nearby is Ripleys Aquarium, about 10 minutes away.
Oh, totally agree with Alyssa! A family vacation is when just you as a family go somewhere together. Otherwise you are using your vacation time to just visit family. There is a definite difference.
You guys crack me up! I love your videos. Both of your personalities really shine through. I think it’s hysterical all of these misconceptions ppl have about you just from snippets you post on social media. Ps. When I was little, my parents idea of a “vacation” was visiting my family in NJ bc they lived near the beach so I can see where John’s coming from 😂
We have 3 kids and ever since the oldest turned 5 we take him with us on our trip every year. When he was 5 it was Iowa, 6 was New Mexico, 7 was our 5 year anniversary so he stayed home while we went to Hawaii, this year he is going to D.C. with us. Once the girls turn 5 we will take one with us every year and rotate so they get their own time. It has been so fun!
Lol I agree with both John and Alyssa about the vacation debate!! John's version of vacation is what I like to call a "mini vacation" because you're packing up, staying somewhere, socializing and still having fun! Alyssa's version is what I call a "big vacation" because we could be flying somewhere and spending a ton of money to have fun! So...yes...both count as vacations! 🤗🤣
Really enjoyed this..I do agree with Alyssa on the vacation thing..looking forward to seeing you all next video..till then will enjoy your Instagram ..this old mamaw loves your sweet family ❤
I have factor 5 Leiden . I had to do heparin shots during my pregnancy with my son. I didn’t know I had the blood clotting disease till my daughter was 11 months old. U really need to be tested. It normally skips a generation but I had my children tested and thank God they don’t have it. I really love watching your videos and seeing your children grow up 🥰
I agree with Alyssa!
Trip = travel to see/stay with family
Vacation = travel to a destination

Why wait until your kids are older? Make memories now! You can plan something that will be good for all ages. You can go to a beach gateway.
They do

I agree with Alyssa. Vacation is going somewhere besides families homes.
I am older and I agree with John. When I was young I went to my cousin's house for a week in the summer. It was definitely my vacation.
Alyssa is right about vacations! :-)

Definition of vacation……. an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling
Praise the Lord your health has been restored!
A Vacation is traveling somewhere and staying in either a hotel or an Airbnb. Not staying w family. 😂😂

Do those family vacations at appropriate time making lifetime memories.
Middle age happens + mild health things start to appear such as a bad knee etc.

Im with John about vacations!
John is hilarious ‼️
