Our business hasn't had a price increase in 11 years, we have continued to find better ways to go about our business which has kept our supplier cost increase obsolete. The mentality is 'surely there is a better way of doing this'. I don't think we need a lean consultant for that. Would love to know how the current pandemic is impacting business that are heavily into the lean manufacutring.
Watching this video now and facing some push back from the inventory guy (im a picker). I'm trying to organize everything to make it faster and easier for both. I can pick 1 order now in 40min. After my improvements, I estimate 15min. But he can't see the vision.
I hear that managers issues with trying to figure out how to do things best when everyone thinks they reinvented the wheel. On my small construction crew we run into conflict over who’s jig is better or who’s waisting time. I love the idea of figuring stuff out in the morning and discussing it at a meeting. This manufacturing stuff doesn’t apply to anything I do and I still learned a ton of stuff to steal from how they’re doing things. Awesome video
Adding value for your customer is the WHY. Three price rises in 21 years! Great leadership and the whole team involved. I've been teaching lean for 25 years and this is one of the very best that I have seen.
Great case study. I love Paul's openness to learning and willingness to suspend ego. I started questioning my lifestyle and how wasteful I usually am with food and junk I don't need in the house. Less is more indeed.
the guy’s undoubtedly has David Brent vibes going on but he really knows his stuff and has an ability to explain the concepts while avoiding the jargon. Well produced videos, well done.
Yeah i commented on Part 1 about this a bit too. I guess it's just the *Power Dynamic* as usual. The anxious (at least outside looking in, I'M NOT THEM!) laughter at 13:02-13:12 and that whole bit is just TERRIFYING Granted again context/i can't tell how they *felt* per se, just how they *looked/sounded*, but yeesh Person: *gives minor crituiqe that is valid* Reporter: Yeah that makes sense (*especially* i might add since *STANDARDIZATION is one of the S's* ) Boss: Well LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT *threateningly patts back* then a jump cut That was just wild.
Also i have to ask: Does the forklift driver get to have their dog and coffee and fun, does the person adding magnets to those bars get to go skiing / travel to piles of countries etc The bit (maybe it was in part one) where the boss was like "yeah massive company, and JUST THESE SIX PEOPLE" etc Kind of like maybe it's a bit...unequal *Granted* again i don't have numbers to back it up / context, and some stratification/specialization is inevitable, BUT i would be surprised if they are making the same/near the same amount as their shop floor employees... That and/or if one is salary and the other hourly etc
remember, most entreprenours saw an issue with their workplace, found a solution, that got ignored, and decided to go their own way, implement that solution, to make a competitor, that ends up with a advantage because they have this solution, that a company couldve had if they had just listened to their workers
Glad you shared that gal's experience about growing in confidence as a result of having her opinions heard. Definitely going to try and foster that at my workplace.
I always had this idea of improving efficiency in my work place and I tried to apply work smarter not harder. But the reality is, after 4 companies and many improvements suggestions, no one did a thing or even notice what I said. Little did I know this idea was a real winner. Just to show how traditional culture in companies resisted change and improvement really strongly.
That's interesting to hear that this was something that they resisted. In the end, lean is something that could completely change a business for the better.
22:50 "how o make it more lean" 1. adjustable height 2. do not remove the battery from the vacuum cleaner and charge the battery directly. 3. magnetic charging so no cords are needed 4. trash bin closer to the cleaner so it can be emptied faster 5. possibility to clean the filter 6. hole/ open space in the back end of the shelf so dust does not accumulate in the corners. Some things would work better other not so much but the possibilities for improvements on everything are endless.
Wow !!! I love & admire the spirit of Paul Akers to help others by setting an example. The information is practical & immediately useful. Thank you Paul . Dilip Somaiya, Bangalore, India
This is the way forward, am a 33yr old Ugandan interested in manufacturing, thanks Paul, and interestingly we have same hobbies, cheers , hakuna matata
I know how to make this vacuum more lean. There should be charging point working in similar way to electric kettle. You put the vacuum away on top of the charging clip, flick the switch and there it goes. Awesome interview :) I got really inspired by Paul's , mindset and approach. On top of that , he's humble and honest. The world needs more personalities like his.
Great take-aways for any business, not just manufacturing. Going lean and creating efficiencies is an excellent way to create a competitive edge for your company, not just on costs but also profits. Thanks for sharing!
wowwww I love the video, it just blow my mind, cause every word from the first and the second video was pure gold. Sincerely, I haven´t seen someone talking like this Paul Akers. Thanks!!!
Wow. 3 price increases in 21 years... That's amazing. Interesting idea of little to no overhead. I'd love to be able to run lean like that. Any ideas of how to get new leads/new biz without an official "marketing" and "sales" team? Or do you just focus on customer retention?
I like the notion of creating small improvements at each cog of the machine to make the overall machine much more efficient. Little changes to create a big impact. Also, FastCap seems like a company I'd like to do business with - I like their approach to cost savings!
Yes! It's the small and little improvements that can make the biggest impact overall. And especially if you spend 2 seconds on improving every single day, imagine where you'll be at in a few months?!
"Less is more" is an idea I first heard about 20 years ago at the college I went to in Fairfield Iowa: Maharishi University of Management. They said "Do less, accomplish more."
I'm reading Lean Thinking and the concept of 無駄 改善 and 改革 and Paul has these areas down amazing work and continual improvement daily is an awesome ideal
This is the absolut best video of them all. I had some ideas for the textile embroidery business i work for ( the bosses are really cool and always up for good ideas) but i tossed them out the window because i thought it might be a little bit to much. But after this video i will implement them as good as i can
Our hearts are full, knowing we can touch lives with our videos! Hope you take these powerful lessons with you and apply them. Cheers to your success! 🔥
Wow. I hope Paul is paying you handsomely for the videos you've done with him because they make me want to buy all his products and work in his warehouse and be his mentee and outdoor sports partner.
I currently work 2 jobs and love them both. But working for this man seems really fun and interesting and also tiring but time would fly there! Would love to take a tour
Great info! Paul has chatted with me though WhatsApp and pointed me in the lean way. Using it everywhere now. Catching on more and more everyday at work and beyond! Thanks for doing this video. Best V.
Thank you once again. I can’t wait for the compendium to evolve so I can watch 2 hours a day in perpetuity. At least I take public transportation to this somewhat lean job at Amazon but my short time there would drive me to be a continuous improvement manager in a couple months.
Glad you love this video! Your appreciation means a lot to us and motivates us to continue producing content like this. Do you have a business topic you want to see next on the channel? 🤔
Throughout all these videos part 1 and 2 I did not see any operation or employee referring to any standard written procedures; does he also run his operations solely on training but no procedures?
I always wondered what was doing was called. I can walk into a kitchen and see improvements right away. How to make it "easier/better". So its called, Lean. Cool.
We really appreciate the feedback Luai Khalil. 😁😁Yes, Paul was very detailed but also made it easy to understand. Have you checked out part 1 of the video?
What not often said even in Engineering school is Lean can improve "work environment" as long there is "attitude & willingness", because if you look at Japanese / Asian working culture they employ Lean like a military very different to this company. It a real shame that not all Business Schools or even schools in general get taught with "Lean way of thinking" (with structure to back it, rather than empty talk), because it will help you in every day life beside work.
Excellent explanation how to make lean work. what is the 1st step you will recommend for an organization to start lean? who should be the target ordinance? is it a top-down approach or bottom-up approach?
i have been saying this ever since i was 12 years old people(adults) thought i was crazy and they don't realized at that time the kids are not over thinking the things and see the big picture and adults we forget to see the problem in front of us
It's interesting a mentality I have and have developed at different jobs is what can I do today to make tomorrow easier? Whether it be making a binder and labelling needed things to easily get items out. Or labelling scanners to not fumble around with trying to match them up. Etc etc, and it is this lean mentality. Quite interesting to bring it up to my bosses I have now in a warehouse and see if they find value in this mentality as well.
wow i worked for a company that had it all backwards lean to them was more profit and big egos i will make changes going forward in my career i like the 3s vs the 5 s
It's crazy how many business owners say they run Lean, Kaizen, 5s... but it's all about them. They think LEAN is about penny pinching to maximize profits and keep your employees quiet because they're stupid and you're so smart.. They think 5s means renovate your factory constantly however you see fit and employees input must be ignored, any idea that pops into your head is amazing and must be implemented fast as possible. Kaizen is even more confusing... they say... errr it's basically 5s they're all the same really.

That's a great idea! Although each house you service might be different, I'm sure you can find something similar that you can apply this method to, even if it's something small. Best of luck!

You can apply it at home too and organize your mess in rooms and garage.
Wish more people agreed with "never resist someone who wants to make an improvement."
The world would be a better place for sure.
Big YES to this.

Well said Robert! Paul Akers is one of the absolute best at understanding and implementing the "lean" mentality.
Great case study. I love Paul's openness to learning and willingness to suspend ego. I started questioning my lifestyle and how wasteful I usually am with food and junk I don't need in the house. Less is more indeed.
Absolutely! Glad to hear that you were able to see that in your own lifestyle.
This company does an excellent job of making employees feel valuable and adding effiency to the company.
Yes they do Julieann Nairn. We enjoyed working with this company. We appreciate your feedback. 😀Have you checked out Part 1 of the video?

Great stuff. Thank you!! I can't believe they have six people managing the company.
I know right! Sounds impossible but they're really grinding!
I always had this idea of improving efficiency in my work place and I tried to apply work smarter not harder. We wish you the best with your manufacturing business 🙏
Thanks UpFlip for this video. I've realized how much we are missing out.
I thought we were pretty efficient, but my shop sorely needs some lean principles after seeing these videos with Paul. Loved this
Wow man! I work for a plastic injection factory in Brazil, and this video gave me many ideas. Thanks!
Reach out to Paul with the idea!
Wow,blown away by the efficiency of this company! So much useful information, thanks guys!
Glad you found use in this. Paul Akers efficiency is definitely something else!
Great take-aways for any business, not just manufacturing. Going lean and creating efficiencies is an excellent way to create a competitive edge for your company, not just on costs but also profits. Thanks for sharing!

excellent, this is the best LEAN introduction video I saw
這是一部簡單明瞭的介紹 精實管理的活生生的影片
Thanks for watching!

Exactly! It's always awesome when you can accomplish more by doing less.
This is so cool! Paul is a huge inspiration.
Lean manufacturing is improving the product and manufacturing process everyday.
That’s right!
I'm reading Lean Thinking and the concept of 無駄 改善 and 改革 and Paul has these areas down amazing work and continual improvement daily is an awesome ideal
Lean is awesome!
My flatmate is currently writing his thesis on the topic of lean manufacturing! This video would be of great help to him :) Definitely gonna share it
How cool! Glad you found use in this. Be sure to check out Part 1 and share it with your flatmate as well!
I'm actually writing my thesis about lean manufacturing right now. Has your flatmate ever published his work somewhere?
This video and the first part are amongst the best videos I have seen. Keep it up @upflip 👏 👏 👏
As a industrial designer I always implement LEAN into my dedigns.
This way lead time will drop like crazy.
This is the absolut best video of them all. I had some ideas for the textile embroidery business i work for ( the bosses are really cool and always up for good ideas) but i tossed them out the window because i thought it might be a little bit to much.
But after this video i will implement them as good as i can
Paul Akers, you are a champion!!
He's the GOAT!
Good interview. Paul Akers is the MAN!
Yes he is!
You know Paul is a good boss when his employee felt comfortable criticizing a way he does something in front of him.
Razor Scooters improved efficiency 15% at my large scale indoor cannabis farm. And they're fun.
Wow, what an inspiring person. Great stuff, wonderful learnings. Thank you for this video...
I’m your new subscriber from India 🇮🇳 ❤️

You gotta do it! Especially if you want your company to grow.
siempre que quiero motivarme y hacerlo mejor vuelvo a este video. Gracias magnifico contenido.
Our hearts are full, knowing we can touch lives with our videos! Hope you take these powerful lessons with you and apply them. Cheers to your success! 🔥
A lean improvement for that vacuum station might be to check the battery level after each use and change if below a certain level.
That could be a lean improvement. Thanks for supporting channel iRepNGR!
These videos are just awesome....so well done and inspiring!
Thanks a lot for the love and support!
Wow. I hope Paul is paying you handsomely for the videos you've done with him because they make me want to buy all his products and work in his warehouse and be his mentee and outdoor sports partner.
one of the best youtubes i ever seen. and i have seen100.000
Thanks so much Bertel!
I currently work 2 jobs and love them both. But working for this man seems really fun and interesting and also tiring but time would fly there! Would love to take a tour
His business is definitely one of a kind!

How awesome! It's great to hear the success you're having with it.
Wow this was great !Lean manufacturing would certainly help me in everyway! Awesome video!

FastCap is amazing! Thank you Paul Akers!
It really is!
So much useful information. Thank you for sharing with us!
Glad you found this useful! We hope you're able to now apply this even in your daily life.
Finally an awesome content i've been looking for..
Thanks a lot Mulyo!
Excellent Interview and excellent video quality.
Throughout all these videos part 1 and 2 I did not see any operation or employee referring to any standard written procedures; does he also run his operations solely on training but no procedures?
Lean manufacturing helped me don´t miss money buying innecessary things
Really
Enjoyed these interviews guys. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
I always wondered what was doing was called. I can walk into a kitchen and see improvements right away. How to make it "easier/better".
So its called, Lean. Cool.
This guy has lots of positive energy
Paul is a very positive inspiration!
Excellent video. excellent lean learning. simple and about the people. great job
We really appreciate the feedback Luai Khalil. 😁😁Yes, Paul was very detailed but also made it easy to understand. Have you checked out part 1 of the video?
Thanks for this awsome video. Now I see "lean production" comes from a "lean mind" which gives us an easy and wasteless life.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic! I learned a ton of useful information that I can apply to work and my personal life.
We're so happy to hear this M Brenner. 😀This is one of the main goals for our videos. Are you currently in the same type of industry?
Good Work Paul, good work Paul!
Agreed! Thank you for watching this interview, Nein To Five! Are there any personalities you have in mind who you want to see next on the channel?
Great Lessons in lean and improvements
Paul is a great teacher 👌
This was such an informative video. Can't wait to implement some of the learnings for my project on Lean Manufacturing.
Glad we could help, best of luck to you Ashutosh!
Bingo....the link to success is treating your employees as the greatest asset..... always all the time
Paul Akers is amazing
Definitely!!
I can't wait to implement lean processes in my company one day!
You can do it Danny. What type of business are you in?
Standardization helps with finding what is lean.
What not often said even in Engineering school is Lean can improve "work environment" as long there is "attitude & willingness",
because if you look at Japanese / Asian working culture they employ Lean like a military very different to this company.
It a real shame that not all Business Schools or even schools in general get taught with "Lean way of thinking" (with structure to back it, rather than empty talk), because it will help you in every day life beside work.
Paul didn’t mention that he takes his turn cleaning the bathrooms.
Thats true. He does mention that in his book though!
Taking notes - Great 2 part video - "being organized is not being lean"
Thank you.
Excellent explanation how to make lean work. what is the 1st step you will recommend for an organization to start lean? who should be the target ordinance? is it a top-down approach or bottom-up approach?
Added the questions to the list! We'll try to ask them the next time we film with Paul Akers
i have been saying this ever since i was 12 years old people(adults) thought i was crazy and they don't realized at that time the kids are not over thinking the things and see the big picture and adults we forget to see the problem in front of us
Most valuable content! Very inspiring!
Thank you!
Best of luck to you William! Hope your bosses take the lean route!
Powerful 👏👏
Indeed!
So what is staff turnover in 21 years? How much is average salary and benefits?
Just found this and wow...... fantastic biz advice
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome n even more Awesome 🤩👌👌👌🪄
Great job! Keep it up!
Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed this.
18:27 hope you Paul liked Lithuania, one curious lithuanian siting and watching how well you run your company 👏
For that vacuum cleaner there could be a system to adjust heigth of the stand so someone smaller of taller can put it on easier.
Thats a really good idea.
wow i worked for a company that had it all backwards lean to them was more profit and big egos i will make changes going forward in my career i like the 3s vs the 5 s
We wish you the best of luck going forward in your career Anthony!
Does not sound like they are following the teachings or methods of either Lean, Kaizen, or 5s practices.
Omg, this is the content I need for my business!! Do you have any calculation about predict future inventory?
Glad you found it useful! Try asking this question on Paul Akers channel, I'm sure he'll get back to you!
Joe's Repair business on Upflip answered that for you. He also applied Lean and thats how it got me here.
I'm new to Lean but I would like to know, is there anyone who talks about compensating the workers who find ways of improving the process.
Let's say someone(anyone) creates a way where good reach the customers faster. Is there anything in the lean methodology that teaches managers to compensate that employee that has brought more capital to the company?
very great video
Thanks a lot Derek!
love the setup. i see a few lean that could improve. lol
Contact Paul and let him know!
Great content😁
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the support. We look forward to having you as a channel subscriber.
very cool! do a version in china!
How do you measure performance?
🔥🔥🔥
How does one not manage a company without HR?
I would be interested to see how the lean manufacturing concept & 2 second improvements can be applied to a service Co. We service & repair in your business or home - your plumbing & heating systems. There is similarity - but no 2 houses are the same. Still would like to see how Lean can be applied in this type of business cause we have TONS of waste.
That's a great idea! Although each house you service might be different, I'm sure you can find something similar that you can apply this method to, even if it's something small. Best of luck!
it sounds like commercial video to me
Implement the charger in the stand and vacuum pack with magnetic charging prongs and there's no need to waste time changing batteries. :)
That's smart!
Thanks
You're Welcome
This is like the hands-on exam of Jordan Peterson’s lectures. I feel my brain running in all 8 cylinders.
Please, stop.
0:55 hahahaha that quote is 100% true. All the big brands are making their crap in CHYNA

It can help tremenlesy 100 % in manufactureing
