Smooth-hounds Beware, Casting My Line at Selsey Beach!

- Beach fishing trip to Selsey in West Sussex to fish for anything in the company of some of my subscribers on the east beach.
Fished the tide down from early morning till late afternoon in a southerly breeze.
A difficult day but caught a small smooth hound and dogfish.

Even when just walking along a beach I cannot resist approaching other anglers and engaging them in conversation. Your new style of casting looks really professional. One of the many reasons I go fishing is for the company of anglers and love the joking and a bit of amiable competition.
Casting is the devil’s work but getting to grips with it and am practicing in a field next door.
Andy and I are visiting Chesil end of April and cannot wait.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment it is really appreciated and validates what I try to show which is the reality of fishing a beach which does as we all know guarantee fish. But we all go as we know one day the monster will come. Cheers and take care 👍🐠🎣🎣🍺🍺

Hi Trevor thanks for those kind words and I try to film in such a way that people watching feel they are getting some of the experience and atmosphere of being on a beach although remotely.

I think the smoothhound pup beats 2 dog fish, great vid , glad you're getting to grips with the new multipliers and the pendulum cast is putting a nice bend in the rod , must be getting good distance with that 👍 🎣
He fella yeah I think smooth hound sees off two dogfish 😂 getting on with the new multiplier’s but the pendulum is the devils work although getting distances never dreamed off before. Always feel slight trepidation is the braid going to behave 😃

Good morning and big thanks for taking the time to watch and comment really appreciated. Pity the smoothound wasn’t bigger but as all the others keep telling me a fish is a fish. Been really tough around the south coast beaches recently.
Cannot get out in the next couple of weeks but then am off to Chesil with a couple of other anglers for 4 days at end April and cannot wait. Cheers and take care 👍👍🐠🐠🍺

Hi Ray thanks for the great comments and the support and will check out around Selsey when the tide is out. Really love coming down that neck of the woods as so varied although a bit of a drive but worth it.

Good vid as usual Paul. I managed to get out on the boat this week off of Sheppey. Got about 12 fish between 2 of us , tings and a massive dog fish which fell off the hook. We called the day "2 idiots in a 12ft dingy". Let me know if your in the area and i will fish the beach with you. I will bring the underpants and pencils.

You mentioned your rods but I don’t think you gave the make model etc 👍🎣 tight lines, Selsey is just turning up the Bass and the crabs have started to soften 🤞the hounds are coming but night tides..

I'd stick with your off the ground cast if I was you Paul, and try experimenting with different rigs for extra distance. In my opinion, a bagnall bar gives the most distance thanks to the short, solid rig body and the way the bait and bottom of the trace are held against the bar. See Tom Bagnall's youtube video on his bar rig (Christchurch Angling Centre). You can also replace the bar with 100lbs mono and it casts just as well.
Hi Ian thanks for the valued feedback and I am more confident with off the ground and find for me it’s more fluid. I will check out TH-cam re Bagnall bar and sounds a good idea. Casting a bit like golf get it wrong and lose distance or worse tackle.
