  • The LT77 gearbox. Reassembly
As TH-cam have moved the goals to become monetized, and I have a niche channel, funding is never going to happen, so I have set up a Patreon as I would like to get a higher speed upload, which means I get post more videos, AND in 1080
Takes me about 2.5 hours to upload a 15 minutes at the moment.
I will be giving credits to my supporters at the end of my videos from now on. I am very grateful to one and all!

If you have a pre 2005 Land Rover problem and do not know how to fix it, drop me a line! Maybe I can help!

lol Good ol' British scaffolding pipe.
I noticed the workshop manuals are for Land Rover/other trained technicians who are expected to know by their trade, more than what the manuals will show.
Beauty of the LT77, it is easier to shim up than the R380. Excellent videos and it is seriously refreshing to watch someone who knows what he is talking about.

      Thanks!
when I was a fitter at ICI Wilton on Teesside, Mills was the scaffolding contractor, so when something needed tweaking, or a bit of extra leverage in a cut down spanner, a 'Mills Adjuster' was called for!
Totally agree on the manuals - Haynes have copped out and are not the same as back in the day.
I think I said in one video Land Rover manuals were written by the guy who designed the 'gearbox' , but didn't want to tell anyone his secrets!
Maybe we should collaborate and put together a full on video workshop manual - warts and all for the base LR range - I do not touch the new stuff as they are now mental to work on without the factory tools
You can pick up post 2007 Rovers here for peanuts as no one will work on them

These are turning into epic videos and take along time to do,
Still, I hope they are better than the workshop manual!

at minute 4:20, your synchro hub slides on very easily. However, I can't get mine on by hand. Is this correct?

Great work as usual. Just a thought can you fit a LT85 in place of an LT77 ? Or are the casing to the transfer box etc all different!

      Good question!
The LT85 was designed to be used with a V8 - and this is the problem - with a LT77 R380, the primary shaft (input) has various lengths for various engines - - and note that the bush that fits in the flywheel is smaller inside on the V8. As far as I can see, there is only one shaft for the LT85
HOWEVER I did get one to fit behind a 300 Tdi by using an M&D adaptor plate for a V8 box to a 300Tdi, and a V8 bell housing - not cheap, but it can be done
But you need the gearbox cover for the LT85 as the shift mechanism is further forward
Good strong box, bit agricultural, but can be 'field serviced' with no specific tools
As you can see on the LT77 (and R380 coming soon) having specific tools really help stripping and assembly
Getting the collar on and off the main-shaft is difficult - they are tight!
If you hammer them back on, you will reduce the life of the bearings, if you warm it and expand it on, you will damage the seal, if you remove the seal first then warm it up, you run the risk if damaging the seal lips when you put it back - you just can't win!
      LOL!
