    Got one for $375 online. The movement back hacks if you pull out the crown and turn slightly counter clockwise, no drama. The movement is running at a -4 per day rate , Amplitude 319 and Beat error of 0.0 so yeah, Miyota 831D is not bad at all IMO.

    Just grabbed one at Costco for $250. I love it and the quarks just give it personality to me. I don't want a "perfect" watch.

    Great review. And it all depends, my wrist is 20,5 cm so i do love the width and hight. The hight allows fot that almost ufo like profile and man that bracelet is so comfy and with a two dollar tool i poppod the links with ease. It looks and feels like the 70s and OMG it doesn’t hack … cant align it with an atomic clock … :-). Boy i love this piece and that movement will run fir decades without servicing, love all if it!

    I have the green one incoming. I like the fact that is is green and that it is a reproduction of the 70s original--like getting a brand new vintage watch. I also have been waiting to get a Bulova and never found the right one--I won't do quartz unless it is rechargeable--doesn't make sense with a large collection. I also like the bigger size (and my wrist is not nearly as big as yours). However, I wish they had gone with a 22mm band and not 20mm. Sorry to hear about the band being a hair-puller--I hate that. Thanks for the review.

    Review is spot on brother. Looks awesome and I don't mind the size, but so many little things that could have easily been addressed to make this a knockout piece. The use of the 8-series Miyota is a travesty for a watch brand that has heritage. Thanks for another great informative review!

      I agree...using Miyota 9015 would justify the cost.

    I have the original the spaces are hand painted to give the illusion of the lettering being individually set.

    • @Chef_Alpo
      @Chef_Alpo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had a couple myself and you are correct, they did a decent job of hiding the connected lettering. It's like they couldn't be bothered with that detail on this reissue, which aside from the movement is the only thing giving me pause on this watch.

    I think dude is hyper critical! I got the orange limited edition version and wasn’t happy about the way it looked on my wrist. Not to mention my wrist aren’t nearly as fat as this dudes! Which is crazy he mentions the size of this piece when it looks crazy small on his big wrist! Anyways, I sold the orange limited edition and got the green non hacking movement version 44mm. Freaking love it, and looks and feels amazing!! Only plus minus 7 secs. The review is straight up wack! You know how much I’ve felt and missed the hacking function, not one bit!! Just wack of a review!

    For $800, no way. But for the well-under--$300 I'm seeing these for right now (sub-$400 for the other non-limited colorways), I think it's a good buy. My only minor gripes are the super polished case and the lack of hacking, but both are correct for the watch this pays tribute to and not the end of the world. I'd love this in a 40mm, too, but the limited edition model is way outside my price range for a watch like this and 44mm doesn't bother me, even with my 6.5" wrist, as I daily wear my SRP777 Turtle and it works just fine for me. I'm leaning really hard towards the 96B321 with the blue dial and blue/orange bezel. I think if I were going to buy the orange dialed limited edition I'd spring for a Doxa instead.
    Here's a poll for the crowd: Which would you rather have, if you could only have one or the other? Hacking, or hand-winding?
    I'm curious which option people find more important.

    • @a0r0a7
      @a0r0a7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Miyota hand winds and you can back hack by holding the crown in the handset position. As for hacking any mechanical watch after a week/ month will be out by seconds and mins. Everyone talks as if you set your mechanical watch it will keep time well it won't, +2 to - 4 sec per day. Buy a quartz if timekeeping is that important to you, so hacking is not all it is cracked up to be. Wearing a mechanical watch is about having a micro machine beating on your wrist. As for the Miyota 8 series movements they are reliable and won't require a service for 10 years minimum. This watch is a marmite watch, love it or hate it. I am a big fan and it is finished beautifully.

    The links are push pin, you can see the the arrow on the link pointing to the direction of the pin coming out, and the Bulova logo is a copy of the one in the original watch. But yeah, for the retail price of this watch, it's unacceptable that it has a stamped steel clasp, push pin links, and an 8-series Miyota movement. It should have a milled clasp, screw in links, and a Miyota 9-series movement with hacking and a 28,800 bph seconds hand.
    Some people might say that that's asking for too much at this price point, and I would agree if this was a Swiss made watch, for which you pay a premium for just because it's Swiss made. But it's not Swiss made. It's not even made in Japan as far as I can tell therefore it's unacceptable to me not to have all of the higher end features.
    But the watch does look pretty killer on the wrist and it definitely gets noticed so that's what you're paying for.

    Nice review. But I think too much is made of its older Miyota movement. I think it’s aesthetics outweigh the movement drawbacks. And the size is very manageable, although I agree an original size one would’ve been better.

  • @mikecosculluela8493
    @mikecosculluela8493 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other than non hacking feature (which should be included), I don't mind the band, the width or height of the watch. These are matters of personal preference. The watch's design, movement and finish are acceptable for its price point. However, if you want a high end movement and finishes, you pay for them. I have never understood when reviewers apply higher end standards on "non luxury" price point pieces. You said it correctly "mass produced". What did you expect?

  • @dbrown2264
    @dbrown2264 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice review. Prevented me from ordering one, even though jomashop has them for only $379. Still, even at that price it's flaws are too significant for me to ignore, especially the size and thickness.

    There really is no reason not to have hacking at this point at his price.
