    The dig2go powered by a usb power bank is ideal for putting addressable leds on your children’s stroller or wagon. Especially for holiday parades.

      I would have never thought of that but that's an awesome idea! Especially using the sk6812 RGBW and segment feature you could even use it for practical lighting too, next to having fun twinkling LEDs on the top!

    My wife makes costumes for children playing in musicals. A few years ago I had to add neopixels to one of those costumes controlled by an esp32. Using an artnet library and my own written led routines I put everything together in a Tupperwarebox and strapped it to the kid. Somehow it survived but it had a 50% chance of failing on stage. This year she asked my help again and I just bought the dig2go. Small, working with a powerbank, controlable for the light-technician. I feel safe using it in a costume and it's more I could ever wish for.

    Fantastic little device, I have numerous controllers but this one's perfect for some projects I have in mind. Plus it's already in an enclosure so I don't have to screw around with 3d printer files that say they're for D1mini-sized ESP32s but are really for the 8266 variety and thus require way too much tweaking and scaling trouble. Thanks for releasing this!

    I have four of these on my windows as part of my permanent Christmas lights. They are awesome! I love the fact that I can leave the LED strips inside the window frames and simply plug in the tiny little controller at Christmas. With WLED pre-installed it is super easy to set up and it syncs automatically to my main light controller (Dig-Quad). After Christmas, I just unplug the controller and everything is clean again. Great little device! My next plan is to use these babies on some props in the yard.

      How long does the power last in the powerbank?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll depend on the LEDs and patterns really. First you need to know that a 20000mAh powerbank is really only about 14000mAh or 14Ah real-world 5v (because the battery cells are 3.7v nominal and they market that capacity!).
      Then say your pattern uses 10w constantly. This mean a load of 2Amps or 2Ah. With that we can say that if our powerbank is 14Ah and we use 2Ah it will last 7 hours.
      If your pattern uses less power on average, it'll lost longer, if more, shorter. See my real-world power sheet for Dara to calculate with!

  • @rustyshackleford4117
    @rustyshackleford4117 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This looks amazing and is priced very reasonably for the feature set! The only caveat I'm seeing, is that it's perpetually out of stock everywhere. Wish I had the option to just pre-order or put a deposit down now on a few units, and then just wait however many X months it takes for more to be manufactured and shipped out. That option is much more preferable than playing the 'check every week to see if they're in stock' game.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you might be talking US local stock? At Worldwide (allnet) everything should generally be in stock all the time. We did run out of dig2go slightly quicker then expected this time, new stock hopefully end of next week! But generally all products should be in stock there.
      We're working on a solution for better stock in the US too, that's in play right now and should be visible in about a month.
      Please remember, I'm just a small player in this industry. I basically use the profit from one batch to do the next one and scale up a little bit each time. Sure I could take more risk and try and grow quicker with a loan or crowd funding, but I'd rather do it on my own power so I don't have to take too big a risk and I'll be here for the long time! Hope you can understand!

    Great product, I am interested in the form factor as I feel I can safely wire this within the housing of an old TV's backlit frame construction, just wanted your thoughts do you think this would work for a wake up light? Also any suggestion for an LED strip from Ali Express / Amazon would be much appreciated. Thank you and good luck

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For a wake up light I'd use analog with an analog controller really, for various reasons. The 2 biggest ones are having many more steps of dimming like 8192 vs 255 for digital. And being able to use much higher quality LEDs in like 2200k + 5000k strip. But that's a bit much to explain in a TH-cam comment. I will be releasing some pre-built analog controllers soonish.

    Just ordered mine, a long with a QuinLED Dig. tbh, Im not having much fun with the whole, setting up ESP controllers, wires, LED strips, power with soldering to get things working, which Im failing at every turn. At this point it does not become enjoyable. I just want to plug the LED + power in and work! Sp spending the extra pre-made controllers, Im hoping to get that enjoyment back.

    Looks really good! But what about fire safety? Any need for external fusing on this kind of lower power setup?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No worries, the dig2go has 2 auto reset fuses built in actually so that even if an issues occurs power will be cut off at the input (for the LED strip and separately for the onboard electronics). So no external fuses needed since it's also not really meant for a power injection style setup.

    Hi there Quindor, I have just received my second Dig Quad, again thank you for creating such a solution.
    I have a quick question if you don't mind, I am using MEANWELL LRS-100-5,
    18 AMP power supplies,
    My question is their are two sets of positive and negative outputs on the Meanwell, does each set output 18 amps? Or is it split between them?
    I have looked everywhere for an answer but cannot find it.
    I am still learning so I hope you don't mind the question.
    I hope you are well.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory they can output all power using a single output but if possible, like with my boards, if you can use 2 wires to the thing that is using power it will create less stress on everything involved. So less voltage drop within the PSU and on the wires going to the board. This in turn also means less heat, etc.. That's why the Dig-Quad has 2 beefy input terminals for positive/negative so you can use 2x 12AWG for instance to have as little voltage drop as possible in that part of the route, especially important for 5v!
      Give this a watch if you are interesting to see the difference between wire sizes and 1 or 2 wires! th-cam.com/video/behbh8VqPTg/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you so much for answering, it is greatly appreciated, so I'm thinking of running the dig quad off one 18 amp supply using both sets of outputs, would you recommend using a second identical 18 amp supply for power injection?
      From this dig quad I am running 2 separate 3 metre sk6812 strips and 1 metre 2812b strip,
      Also I planning on joining your discord as I know you say it's a good place to go and I know how busy you must be.

I'm not crazy about warm whites for display lighting. If not, no worries-I can always buy the Dig2Go by itself or the Power Bundle and get my own strip :)

      Currently no, I'm still not at the scale where I can just buy a few hundred of each type and "see how it does" 😅 but hey, it's all open so for sure just get the strip you want! Although with that said, RGBW will make it look ok/decent but CRI95 analog would truly showcase whatever is in there. I hope to have solutions for that later this year but then again, you don't get the cool effects.

    Does this board work with analog strips at all? Digging around for an easier solution for control of analog LED strips. I'm quite comfortable with soldering in general, but have no experience surface-mount components. If I'm honest with myself, I have too many projects in flight to go down the road of learning SMD soldering at the moment. Any tips for control/power of analog strips would be appreciated. For now I'm using pwm motor controllers and 24v power bricks connected to smart plugs. Not the prettiest solution, but it works.

      I have been doing investigating and maybe already some prototyping into that direction, I ***REALLY*** wish to make a 24v variant for with that "NEON Addressable 720LEDs/m" strip since there is no 24v USB-C PD (only 20v) it would basically make it 3x as expensive and run hot so I'm still researching because I really want one myself but it doesn't seem like a sensible plan basically. I mean, if it would cost a 100$, it just wouldn't make sense when a Dig-Uno that's 1/4th the price can do it, you just have to screw in wires. 😅

      In theory if you solder it together and make the wires the appropriate size that they don't drop too much voltage I think you can still get a satisfactory result using the dig2go for those kind of distances. I'd go for 5v sk6812 RGBW since it's a little bit more power efficient and also allows you to run dedicated White instead of RGB White.

      Actually normally it's about 60w according to my real world LED power sheet : quinled.info/2020/03/12/digital-led-power-usage/
      A Dig-Uno, Dig-Quad or Dig-Octa System will run those perfectly fine! They can all do 5v-24v instead of just 5v for the dig2go! A Dig-Uno with just a single edge connection will run it perfectly!

      I don't believe there are any 5v variants of that. And of the 24v varients the software support is still lacking.
      That said the Dig-Uno, Dig-Quad or Dig-Octa can all handle 5v-24v so that part is no problem, just still the software support in WLED.

    Question from someone who has absolutely no LED experience. This thing looks like exactly what I need and want. I would use it for Hyperion (Ambilight) with a SK6812 RGBNW strip but I always thought I need a lot more power for a 5 meter strip? Now that I see you even sell it for 5 meter. Is it really enough?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the desired effect. This controller has 15w of power and a sk6812 RGBW with 100% RGB uses about 50w for instance. So in that scenario it wouldn't be able to provide enough power. Then again 100% rainbow only uses about 20w so it comes very very close to that. Basically, if you have a single LED strip and aren't planning on power injecting, this will provide the same amount of power as any other controller that way.
      So in my opinion, I think it could work well for a Hyperion setup (can even be done using USB because the USB-to-Serial is in there) unless you demand the utmost brightness it could possibly provide in all scenarios (so also when all LEDs want to light up white). Then a Dig-Uno or especially a Dig-Quad is a better solution I think since it will have no issue providing that kind of power, you will however also have to do more wiring since to get to that kind of power you'll need multiple injections on a 5v strip.
      Hope that makes sense!

    First time using WLED and addressable LEDs. With 'analog' LED strips, you can wire the controller in the middle of two strips. Is such a setup possible, or do I have to run the wires all the way down to one end?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With digital strips power can flow both ways but data can only flow in the direction of the arrows so you'll have to bring some wires to the beginning of the strip or do a more advanced install and basically split it in the middle and then reverse half in software.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It only has a single level-shifted output. So even if you power-inject the LED strip after the controller (which is fine, use shared GND, disconnect positives so they can't meet) you'd realistically still be limited to around 600LEDs to make sure you keep a decent framerate on that channel. In theory you could use some of the pin sockets to use more GPIO pins but those won't have the level-shifter circuit, proper resistor, etc.. so it's a bit hit or miss if that works and only very (10cm max) data cables.
      If I didn't understand you correctly and you want to use multiple strips on the single output, using short wires you could probably split the single data output to 2 maybe 3 strips and those will then do everything 100% identical.
      If you really want to run multiple strips a Dig-Uno or especially a Dig-Quad is much more suited for it.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is yes. Basically you have one main controller and use that to generate the effects. Let's say it's a dig2go on the LED preferences page you create an output to that LED strip. Then you create a second output and set it to DDP and send it to another dig2go for instance. That way, since the first one generates the effect it will be continuous. But the data is being transmitted over the wireless network in real-time so it'll heavily depend on the connection quality and such.

    • @RobtPerk-xv2yh
      @RobtPerk-xv2yh 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That way it's a continuous stream of information. You can also use the sync function, then each dig2go will generate it's own effect. They'll just do the same thing, but it won't look continous.

    5m sk6812 draws around 35-40W at full brightness, how does that will work with the dig2go and its 15w limit?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you watch the video? Explanation is in there. Sk6812 can draw up about 80w is properly injected even! But doing effects and such doesn't mean all 4 diodes are lit up, also not all at the same time in all LED packages, and thus average usage is much lower. For instance the rainbow effect runs at almost 100% so almost no loss in brightness. Others it can be less or more, so it depends a lot on the effect and how much value you find in full, all LEDs lit with multiple colors output 🙂

    dig2go + eu plug + 4m strip costs 47.49USD, but shipping to europe costs 30.53USD, total cost 78.02USD. Is this with VAT or excluding VAT? Also why is shipping cost so high? If its shipping from china, than maybe its better to sell through aliexpress, the china government subsidises shipping almost 100%. Packet like this would cost around 5Eur to ship. I was searching for addressable rbg controller for hass, but while i would be ok to pay 50eur for the product, i am not ok to pay nearly 30 eur for shipping. Only option is to search for other solutions or just stick with rgbw controllers and not addressable.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just checked for me shipping would be around $25 but I get it's still not cheap. Sadly normal companies don't get to benefit from the internal shipping network of Aliexpress. Those government grants have been scaled down a lot over the years but Aliexpress can keep it cheap because of massive volume, sadly we as a small guy can't compete on that and have to pay normal shipping rates. :(
      Going through Aliexpress is an option we'll re-evaluate but they really really pressure the sellers and I'd have to raise the price of the product by 50% just to cover their fees (they aren't free) and return policies and such. Most people if they buy it from Aliexpress or Amazon and break it expect a free return or money back and I'd have to reserve money for that. It's not like we don't provide warranty now, we certainly do but with another platform in between lines get blurred and it just costs more.
      We try to improve where we can though, I certainly can understand this prevents you from buying one! We are looking at starting to sell locally in the EU to hopefully be able to lower shipping charges a bit but that also takes a lot to setup correctly and not only have it cost more.
      So competing on price is tough, I can never offer the prices the big guys can, but I'll certainly challenge them on quality! :)
      p.s. Depending on your country it's possible they will also still charge you VAT when it arrives. :(

      It can, there is no limitation preventing this except physics as in, a single edge injection won't allow more then 4A into the strip, the dig2go comes close to that with 3A.
      So if you aren't going to do any injections, you can just as well run the dig2go. But if you are, and it becomes more important the more LEDs you have, then something like a Dig-Uno or Dig-Quad is much more suited to the task.

      10m is just a whole lot to run at 5v 3A. Also not sure if the COB strip you are talking about is a digital strip.
      In theory yes, the main issue is that it will be less bright but it will also be a bit more choppy.
      In all honesty, 5m is already a bit on the edge for 60LEDs /m strip with the dig2go, 10m I feel won't give a great experience. Then you just need more power and power injections.
      Maybe look at a Dig-Uno with 24v addressable neon I showed? In that situation were talking about 96w making it into the strip with a single injection instead of just 15w, I think that will make for a much better experience.

      @IntermitTech cool, thanks for coming back to me, think the DigUno might be the way forward by the sounds of things. I was just looking for a nice all in one solution that worked off USB.

      @finchilla yeah and I get that, the amount of power USB can provide is just very limited, especially at certain voltages. When you start adding conversion it also makes the product then much more expensive, so it's a complicated trade off in that sense. I am looking at mahbe making a 12v version of the dig2go I the future but even then it will always be limited vs using regular power supply. :)

    How about import tax and vat for EU?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly not yet arranged from allnet but it's on the top of our priority list to arrange the tax stuff first and later hopefully some local options in EU too, but lots need to be arranged to most it viable cost wise.

      @@IntermitTech any idea of the taxes to import that? Could be a "problem" pay a 30€ product to get 30€ of tax...

      Here in NL it's the tax (21%) and 5 euro processing fee. But it varies greatly per country.

    I'm looking into this for that "FRIEND" ;) Being new at all this, how much LED's can we put on this? For example, I have a project and need approx 60ft of LED's... How would I go setting it up wit hthe D2G? Thanks!

      No, anything above 16ft you need something more powerful to get good results.

    What if you dont have wifi available. For instance Burningman where wifi is not available. Id like to create a bicycle LED set up.

      I have some videos on this. I'd recommend connecting it to your phone hot spot and using a Wiz remote. Look up the videos, it explains!

      @@IntermitTech there is no internet service in the Desert. The only way to connect is via Star link and that is even limited in this area. So no hot spot capabilities.

      Your phone can create a hot spot, so a Wi-Fi AP the controller can join. No need for actual internet.
