Releasing a ratcheting starter and reversing rotation on a starter

I'm sure you've seen or done the trick w/ spinning the bendix on a screwdriver (removed from the pinion shaft) using a wire wheeled grinder.

That will work! Should work. My Bendex points the other way.

unfortunately, the wire wheel trick didn't work on my Bendix for my plane. So I reinstalled on the plane w/ the gear extended and when the engine kicked over, it spun the drive so it retracted back in as designed. Happy ending.@@modifyman6977
