Vehicle to Load/Grid charging. It's something every electric car *should* and *could* do if the inverters, the installation and the political will was there.
Very practical and a unique offering in the EV space, with the possible exception of the far more expensive Rivians (when geared up for camping). Love the diversity that's starting to emerge in the move to electrification. Thanks Derek!
Great video Derek - I absolutely love the ID Buzz. Looking forward to the ID Buzz California ca. 2025 - that will have to be my "California Dreaming" for the next few years!
Thanks for mentioning the vents and windows thing. I'm amazed reviewers seem to put this in the "no big deal" category. It's an absolute joke that VW have no airflow in the rear seats of a car this expensive. Dealbreaker for me, and if the three row version also lacks rear vents that'll just be a horrible vehicle to travel in. VW should be given a really hard time for that.
Thanks for the review Derek. I love the I.D. buzz, it's looks great. I've never wanted to own a van so much. Colour wise I'd go for the leaf green and white. Sadly, price wise it's out of my range
NIce review Derek. THere is plenty of space within the current wheel base to put some extra pulldown/pop up seats, no ? They could have definitely changed the touch sensitive controls. No one was happy about that .Shocking that you cannot open the window at the back.Kids wont like it one bit. I will wait until the 7 seater comes out with the same smaller wheelbase.
Extra seats Vs extra weight I'd say and it's already chunky. Touch controls will have to be a major future facelift I'd imagine. I don't think this wheelbase will get 7 seats. I think it will be reserved for LWB only
€65k (supposed price) for the base model in Ireland and once you add on the false floor, etc. you're looking at €70k. A real missed opportunity it seems by VW to completely own the market. And a hell of a lot better than an SUV - a pity people buy on looks, not practicality. But again, €65k..... That false floor is a great addition however, makes an ideal weekend camper. An aside: an embarrassing move by VW to offer a camping module, and build it on a gas cooker, not induction, considering the monster battery under the floor. And as for California pricing, we can assume €90k+?! absurd.....
Thanks for the question Brian. I assume so unfortunately but beat to check with your local VW dealer. You're looking for the front row only but as a passenger "car" right?
In the US extended version are the side doors the same side. It seems they are very small in width in your video and occupants would have a very hard time getting to the third row.
Thanks for the comment and question Philotimo. There are doors on either side on this length as will be the case in the longer wheel version with I'm sure a system (sliding middle row etc) for passengers to fit into the back row. I hope that helps
Thank you for the review, Derek! The car looks great, but I am confused - being a big family car, why is it only 5-seater?! What car category is it competing with? Mini-vans? SUVs?
Any sign of 230V socket in front seat? "230V outlet and 12-V outlet on front passenger seat cushion frame (Ireland)". VW stating it's standard even on Base Model in Ireland
The outside grows on me the more i see it but the inside is not to my liking. I agree it is better than an SUV. Not for me as I have no need for that size. Good video. Thanks DES
Derek, great review although the Buzz is not for me. Can’t wait to get your honest review on the UK/Ireland spec Renault Megane E Tech. They seem to have downgraded the Launch Edition version. I would go as far to say Renault were a tad deceitful in using the European Iconic/Launch Edition version for their dealer launches which I attended. Not once did the presenter state this was not a true example of the version we would get bar the 9” screen. Do I spend £40k now or wait to see what 2023 brings. Thanks
We haven't even got to see Irish spec which may be different to UK spec. I've nearly forgotten about it it's been so long. I'm a big fan of the Kia Niro EV at the moment
I am actually disappointed about the second row of seats not having 3 full seats. This is a family van and it does not get air vents at the back and it does not get 3 full seats... a major thing for such car type. Imagine you are on a road trip in the south/centre Europe with 40 degrees outside... AC must be very strong :)
I just wish the Buzz doesn't have to be another fad posh toy, like the 2nd new Beetle or BMW's Mini . I understand that profit margins are the reason why. If Citroen kept the C4 Picasso in production and somehow fit in PSA's 50kWh electric platform, then I wouldn't be so Buzzed by this VW. Plus, there's regrettably no front row bench in the passenger version or a 6 or 7 seater with the standard wheel base. I'm feeling a little let down after waiting so long for VWs supposed repentance for diesel gate. It's a big expense 5 seater, not a minibus.
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately the balance sheet is ruling the decisions here. I believe the next EV platform from Stellantis will really shake up the EV space.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland I'm really looking forward to what Stellantis has to offer A strategy that does not cave into an arms race for ever more posh and executive EVs, but properly developing an entry level market that the Fiat Panda had promised. Or the Citroen Ami. Europe has the imported Dacia Spring, VW had only in 2020 un-discontinued the *left hand drive versions of the e-UP, Mii and Citigo But these leave such an open goal for Chinese competitors especially their small EVs are already heads and shoulders beyond European cars (before taking homologation and crash tests into account).

Great in depth review Derek. Looking forward to a real world range test with full load of passengers and luggage on Irish roads .

Oh, the California version is definitely one I'm looking forward to driving too!
Great stuff Derek! I'm in love with the Buzz! Probably can't justify something so big, but oh man do I want one!
Ha, she's great but we are both estate men at heart
Another great Review Derek. 👍
Thanks Pat! 👍 Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. Real inept review. I love the Buzz but price and range are a real killer.
Thanks Fergus. These price points are being paid by consumers so they'll stay high. What would be on your list?

Hi Derek. Great review. Will the van version only be available as a commercial vehicle in Ireland?

Competing with SUV for sure. I'd call this a minivan. No extra seats is down to weight restrictions I'd say.

Let's see with future updates but this set up was unusual. Thanks for the comment Aaron
Some reviewer pointed out there were vents underneath the rear seats, so there's something, I guess. But it's a disappointment never the leas
I need to check when I get in the next time!
This could be nothing, but that's an odd edit after the sentence "we're all embargoed" at 7:27 .
Trying to see it but I used a different transition effect in the video and sometimes it goes a little weird.
The price has already killed this off here in Ireland. VW could have owned the market here but not with this pricing
Thanks for the comment Andy. I'd say they'll still sell out as we both know the amount of similar priced SUVs on the roads at the moment
