I'm still rocking a sunburst e4500.. glad I got it when I did. I had a wine red e4500 which fell over and snapped the headstock.. couldn't live without an e4500. Brilliant to play and sound great
Had one of these in which needed a new three way switch on the day before lockdown, I played in throughout those months as it was such a joy, sitting down I'll add as it weighed just over a ton. Sold it on first day we reopened, wonderful guitars.
Hi Michael :-) When Westfield were operational these weren't expensive for the spec - you got a lot of guitar for the money. This was one of the rare ones that I did literally nothing to. Everything was bang on. You don'r see those very often. Cheers :-)
Hi Gary, first of all I loved the demo tune today, fabulas playing! What a great guitar. It just goes to show, a half decent guitar plugged into a good amp and it sings. You don't need a designer label to Rock & Roll. I thought that the clean sounds were better than some of the more high end instruments you've showed us. The guitar looks stunning, sounds fantastic, and I'll take your word that it plays well, I'm sure it does. For £110 that's got to be one of the best deals in the guitar universe.
Hi Gary, Great review indeed for the beloved Westfield E4500 - it was the first Les Paul I bought and I have still have it, I will never let it go as the build, electronics and playability are superb good to see Rotosound have resurrected the name WESTFIELD too. Thanks for the review you have confirmed all what I find about the E4500, they were consistently good.
Hi Dennis and thanks :-) No two ways about it, these guitars were seriously underpriced and vastly underrated. No wonder the poor beggars went out of business. I have enormous love and respect for Westfield. Their Strat copies beat Squiers (and probably Fenders) into a cocked hat. These LP deluxe versions are so stuffed full of goodies that you'd have to pay a grand or more for an equivalent these days. Cheers, Gary :-)
@@FoxysGuitarShow I agree Gary, the quality of what they provided in this guitar range and as you mentioned the Strat ( I bought one for my daughter (she still has it too) one wonders why they folded as in general they were good marketeers, Like you I have the same love for Westfield, they will become collectors items as the word will spread on the quality. Let's hope the Phoenix from the flames risen high and Rotosound expand beyond the new acoustic range and use media like your review to push the brand even further. Best Wishes sir and keep up the good work.
I’ve been literally given one of these in black tonight. Fully working but ab-so-lutely filthy! Possibly the grubbiest guitar I’ve ever had. Looking forward to cleaning it up and seeing what’s underneath!
Hi Dom :-) Lucky you! These beauties are vastly underrated. Get it cleaned up and give it a set up and you'll wonder why anyone would want anything else. Cheers, Gary :-)
Ive had a fair few over the years to set up for folk over the years. Never had to do much to any of them. They are great guitars. And premises was in Scotland, but these were def made in Korea, Maybe just stored and distributed from here. The necks are brilliant good fret work. The SG version is an excellent guitar too for very little money!
Hi Stevie :-) I'm gutted that this lot folded, they made such great guitars as you say. Thanks so much for the extra info - I was never sure where these were made but the quality is undeniable! Cheers, Gary :-)
Certainly a very nice looking guitar in what appears to be in very good condition for it's age. Really lovely tones from the pickups. As you say a shame Westfield don't produce guitars anymore.
Hi Rick :-) The Westfield name continues as it's been acquired by Rotosound. They're selling a range of acoustics with nice wood and transducers but it's not the same as abalone and humbuckers! Cheers :-)
Hi Solo Si :-) I'm so envious! Mad Malko had one a while back but I've never seen one in the flesh. Ah, a-hunting we will go hahahahaha. Cheers, Gary :-)
@FoxysGuitarShow Hi Gary, really enjoying your videos. I've now owned 3 Westfields, the SG (Black), a sunburst Strat and The V. Really nice guitars with a few upgrades. I now only have The V. I've added an aluminium tail piece, a tone rider alnico ii in the neck, and an Iron Gear Rolling Mill alnico V in the bridge. Set up with 10's. The shape takes some getting used to, but in that regard, I actually prefer it to the SG!
Picked one of these up off a good mate yesterday for £80. Immaculate condition. Really nice guitar, what can I say? Most definitely holds its own with much more expensive brands. Shame they don’t make guitars anymore.
Hi D Woody :-) Congratulations for bagging a bargain! These are so well made and so beautifully appointed they're worth easily five times what you paid - try getting it though. Defo a keeper, well done mate. Cheers, Gary :-)
I had a Westfield Les Paul about 10 years ago: sunburst 450. When I tried it in the shop it screamed like a Les Paul should and it was less than 200 quid so it would have been rude not to. I put a Wilkinson pickup in the bridge position and used it for a backup guitar for gigs. Still regret moving it on.
Hi Paul :-) I did move this one on as it goes so I've bought another! Lots and lots of guitar for very little money and there's still a couple knocking about. Cheers, Gary :-)
I've been collecting these for years, I have quite a few of them now in various finishes from a few different runs. Some of the "newer" ones, without the open book headstock, are quite a bit lighter and thinner. I prefer the older ones, like the one in this video. Their value is going up too, I regularly see them listed on ebay and FB marketplace for £250 - £300.
Hi Procyon (that's a Racoon isn't it?) :-) No doubt these are quality instruments and I sold this to a mate for £80 and regretted it.....so I bought another one with a photo flame finish. I'll get it reviewed in time. Love that Abalone inlay. Cheers, Gary :-)
@FoxysGuitarShow yeah it is, I used to have pet raccoons :) The SG models are pretty good too, as good as any budget epiphone SG. They've started making guitars again recently but it looks like they're only doing acoustics for now
Hi foxy I’ve got a Westfield LP , it’s black but it’s not as elaborate in trim as yours , I’m assuming it’s cheaper version, plays nicely but you don’t see a lot on the market. Good show as always mate , well done . Regards John
Hi John and thanks :-) They did the 4000 (standard) and the 4500 (deluxe) and at the time when they were selling them and I think there was only about £30 difference. Mind you, 30 quid's 30 quid, innit? Cheers :-)

Hi Anne Marie :-) Re the open book headstock, I'm astonished there was no lawsuit. £25 would see a nice little laminate over that! IMO, the Westfields were the pick of the crop. I've got one coming up on the channel that I'll very possibly treat to a pair of 57 classics. I agree that they frequently offer greater value than the 'known' brands but always be careful and try first if you can. Guitar techs are more expensive these days and can often have you outspend the value of guitar. Thanks so much for your contribution. Cheers, Gary :-)

They were in fact a company similar to JHS and the like, and imported & distributed many types of musical instruments, sound, and I think possibly lighting gear, under various 'house' brands. Hey Foxy, are those the original pups, and if so that's one hell of a good tone from that Les Paul. I saw a Westfield SG for sale and I new they were made at the Matsumoku factory but it was to beat up for the money he was asking, I wonder if they make any type of Telecasters.
Frank, They did have Tele's. I picked one up s/hand some years ago. Unfortunately, I think mine has suffered the misfortune of being being modded by a well intentioned, but unskilled previous owner. From others that I have seen, they were hardtailed, but someone had a go at converting mine to strung through... probably freehand with a pistol drill 😮. The result is that the holes are all misaligned to the rear. I also believe they might have had a go at reshaping the headstock. Why, I have no clue, because the originals I have seen followed the Fender style pretty faithfully. Other than that they are pretty decent guitars but they have thinner body's akin to the original Squier Affinity range but fitted a 3 saddle vintage bridge. All in I'd rate them much the same class as the Squier Affinity.
