Honestly, I sooooo much prefer toon-physics powers over any of the other theories that were floating around. It's such a good fit for Luffy, and kinda circles back to the goofiness of the earlier days of One Piece.
I'm just gonna paste a comment I made before because I'm genuinely curious. Am I the only one that doesn't think his abilities were really that "toonish"? Like of course oda went gag heavy this chapter in terms of artstyle with how he had eyes popping out and everything, but him grabbing kaido and swinging him around, or pulling the ground up to deflect the boro breath, idk it all felt pretty standard one piece to me. Inazuma pretty much did the same thing in marineford when he made a ramp for luffy out of the ground using his fruit. If Oda is truly going to go toon with luffys powers I don't think this chapter even came close to what he's gonna give us. Regardless 10/10 chapter what a time to be alive
@@kenan-b Yeah, it definitely wasn't the peak of the "freedom" his awakening will provide him. That said, Luffy didn't immediately go Jet Gatling when he first unlocked Gear Second, nor Grizzly Magnum or King Kong Gun with Third and Fourth. So even though there wasn't anything *extremely* cartoonish in this chapter, I think it's obvious where Oda is going with his power-up (with the googly eyes, stars-over-head halo, and Popeye muscles). We just need to wait and see the particulars of his creativity.
@@kenan-b yeah I get you, I'm not convinced the cartoon effects are really linked to his power either. I'm under the assumption that he's just got more freedom over his body and the environment, I don't think he's bending reality or anything
Honestly this was the best outcome in terms of what Gear 5 would be. I feel the logia idea with the resin resin fruit wouldnt have the same weight as what we got with the mythical zoan human model Nika. It just makes more sense to have him be Nika himself considering his whole philosophy is bringing people smiles by taking away their pain. Oda keeps dropping heat and I love it.
I would've preferred him to be connected to Nika a different way tbh, like connected to Nika and Joyboy and even Roger's will through something other than the fruit
When Blackbeard said "The Sun or darkness: let's see which will come on top!" in his fight against Ace, darkness won. Now we know we still need to see the *real* Sun vs Darkness
@@kjk607 😂😂 fr tho! Do you need any more proof for being tough and durable?! Grandson of Garp, Son of Dragon, Brother of Ace (2nd division Commander for Whitebeard Pirates) and Sabo (No.2 for the Rev Army behind Dragon) 🤷♂️ Let me know if I missed any other close connections 😂
I love how his old forms and fan forms are all very serious and angry looking but luffy's current final form is just as joyful or even more joyful than he is normally, all fan gear 5th art seem to be the opposite of what we got and I love it
It reminds me of how Toriyama in DBZ Battle of Gods made SSG slim instead of bulky like everyone was expecting. It's the kind of subversion that nobody sees coming and didn't know they needed until after.
Also explains gear 4th Bound man. I remember back then when he first did it against Doffy, so many people thought that it looked to cartoony, and weird and didn’t seem to make sense to people at first etc.. then it grew on everyone, I know I didn’t like it at first but then I ended up loving it all. Also, explains his one G4 attack “Kong Organ” where he literally makes 6 arms out of seemingly thin air.. lol makes sense now
I mean it’s him inflating his muscles to increase their strength. What this actually justifies from Gear 4 is Kong Organ and Luffys magically spawning 4 extra arms.
This was such an Oda thing to do and I loved every bit of it. Luffy using his fruit in so many creative ways without knowing what it actually was is so amazing. He is special even without the fruit. OP
“There is no power more ridiculous!” THIS is my favourite quote from this chapter. While in other shounen it would be like “power-up: he is now God-level”, this is just so pure One Piece. Perfectly befitting Luffy and yet that statement somehow still gives vibe of awe that the government has for this fruit.
Ridiculous is one of the first words Oda used to describe gum gum powers too back in West blue. When interviewed about Luffy and why he picked rubber powers he said he wanted a 'ridiculous' character amidst all the badasses who could fight but have fun and look goofy while doing it.
I love how Luffy being a zoan changes everything yet nothing. It explains why he was always able to just get right back up, at times seeming like plot armor, because zoans are naturally more durable and recover faster. It also explains why nami was able to beat the crap out of him dispite being rubber.
@@Gavynnnnn it actually does because, when Nami beats him, Luffy ACTUALLY feels bad so that could simply be his "imagination powers" showing how he felt after the beating
11:55 I think the reason why Kanjuro's Fire attacked Orochi was because of Orochi himself. In chapter 1030, Orochi's plan was to have Kanjuro burn the place down. He orders Kanjuro to do so and "lay the souls of the Kozuki clan". Kanjuro understood that as a suicide pact and called it "The Glorious Death of the Kurozumi Clan." That's also why Kanjuro said "I failed". Because they didn't get a glorious death by burning the whole Onigashima. Orochi's poetic manipulation to Kanjuro was his own downfall. It's poetic justice at its best. Also I loved Hiyori's speech about her Father keeping his word and calling Orochi a coward with no honor. It symbolizes how Hiyori and Momonosuke are there to live on that promise while Kanjuro and Orochi die not fulfilling their words. Hoping Hiyori helps Zoro after this.
This really made luffy go from a really good rubber fruit user throughout the series to a really bad mithical zoan user who only used rubber like abilities
@@hypedebates3749 they meant his personal skill. So he was a really good paramecia user in terms of a "bad" rubber fruit, but his fruit was a mythical zoan, so he was a bad user of a mystical zoan, till he awakened it.
I hope that at some point it’s revealed that others before Luffy had the Nika fruit, but failed to awaken it. It would prove that luffy isn’t really a chosen one, he is someone who proved himself to the fruit and was the first (probably since joyboy) to awaken it. This would be even better if Gol. D. Roger was one of the people who failed to awaken it.
I'm so in love with the idea that all of Luffy's powers, moves, and gears were possible not just because he was rubber, but because the fruits real power let him fight "any way he imagined". Any crazy idea that Luffy dreamed up / thought would work b.c he was rubber, actually worked b.c Luffy imagined it. It retroactively explains so many things about his gears or certain moves that defied logic (his arm catching fire with red hawk, his punches redirecting in Snakeman form, etc.) And now that he's awakened, that imagination is spreading to his environment and even his opponent. Such an incredible concept
Oh, you know what I just remembered? His "pinwheel" move. Dude... back at ARLONG PARK. He saw the pinwheel on Genzo, then came up with a move. Moreso, when he used Gear 2 for the 1st time, he said "I thought of a way to fight to my full potential", or something along those lines. Duuuude! Imagination and creativity were *always* there! Even with "joke" moves, like "branch" (eda?), or "octopus" and "boh" vs Enel (writing names out of memory, might be getting them wrong) All whacky and funny and cartoonish! And 1st move on Gear 5? Pinwheel! (Though he didn't "chant" it)
One thing I just realized is Luffy is now the perfect (thematic) counter to Blackbeard, being an embodiment of the Sun God, and Blackbeard having control over darkness. Also, I wonder if all mythical zoans require you to awaken them before you can access their full power.
@@James-mj1eh yeah I know but do all of them require that is what i'm saying. If I had Katarina Devon's fruit would I need to awaken it to get full access to its power
I feel like Oda managed to sidestep most “chosen one power” issues in one chapter by saying that it’s only *because* of Luffy’s character and personality that this otherwise useless fruit would grow to become a useful fruit. It takes pure imagination to make this fruit useful. Yeah it’s a mythical zoan, but it’s still useless to anyone that doesn’t think like a kid essentially.
Yeah well no. Zoan fruits transform the user’s personality so this whole narrative of “Luffy’s personality made it awaken” is flawed. Luffy’s personality is influenced by the spirit of the fruit, so the fruit itself makes the person who eats it behave in accordance. I’m afraid there’s no way out of this plot hole but I’m still okay with it. To everyone else calling Luffy’s fruit “crappy” up to this point, quit dreaming. Luffy out damaged and out tanked haki users before he even knew what haki was. In Lucci, a haki user with all the added resilience benefits of a zoan fruit. All while being a scrawny kid. Luffy fruit has always been a pretty strong fruit, just not Logia levels or high end paramecia levels. It was always well above average. And never forget: fruit power alone took Luffy further than Crocodile (a logia battle-hardened pirate).
I think Enel’s fruit is actually a Hito Hito No Mi Model: Raijin. Enel’s last transformation also had the same floating scarf, and it would make sense as it takes a god to beat a god, that is why Luffy was actually unaffected by the lightning. Huh, if all zoans have their own will, maybe Enel’s fruit actually looks for a person that has the attitude of a god. Because unlike Nika, maybe Enel’s god is arrogant and prideful. Enel also used drums on his back to make huge attacks and Luffy’s heard sounds like a drums. Nika being a higher god than the god of Enel could explain that.
The "Gear Fifth is Luffy inflating his mind" theory was right! Gear Fifth is only limited by his imagination, the more creative he is, the more powerful it becomes.
I've always wondered if Oda would go down this route after introducing the Gold Buddha Fruit. Luffy's power always seemed to be way beyond the properties of rubber. Rubber doesn't manipulate anywhere near the way his body has over the years, there always seemed to be a sense of whimsy and childlike wonder when it came to his powers. And I really like the route Oda seems to be going with that.
I really wasn’t expecting luffy’s fruit to be a zoan! But actually, it makes a lot of sense why luffy could do gears 1-5… because zoans have transformation forms!
Gears aren’t transformations. They’re different implementations of Luffys rubber powers. The only one that comes close to a transformation is Gear 4. Also Luffy is a human who at a human-human fruit. Meaning his zoan forms aren’t easily identifiable.
@@frenchfriedbagel7035 I don't know? maybe because they both have the hito-hito no mi chopper can boost his mind and grow his horn just like luffy? I guess...
From watching several fan-made videos of Luffys Gear 5th, I knew they all looked cool, but it wasnt just Luffy yk? But now, that form is jus so perfect it's like "wow how did we not get that before?" And I love the idea of Zoan Fruits having their own will. Other fruits tend to be more special or advanced, and for the longest time Zoan Fruits were just "oh you turn into an Animal" but now, there's always going to be the extra layer and it'll be so interesting
I agree, this G5 form perfectly fits Luffy. I was worried for a while about how his awakening or G5 looks like. I'm very glad it fits Luffy perfectly.. 20/10 chapter ☺️
@@KingVictor7 I honestly thought gear 5th would be related to the upgraded forms of haki and give him a minor utility boost andd look ridiculously edgy but no he gets a hair change and becomes toon jesus
I think it's really cool how Luffy's awakening is Nika. Of course, it makes sense, since an awakening is making a devil fruit complete and in Luffy's case, that's it turning from an alleged paramecia into the actual zoan. Also, am I wrong or do Luffy, Sengoku and Chopper all have the Human-Human fruit now? (Obviously different forms but still) I think that's kinda cool
You know, there's one thing I realized about Luffy that honestly suggested his rather ridiculous cartoony powers for a long time - Namely, the oldest form of animation was rubber hose animation, so it makes sense that the evolved form gives him more animated powers.
“After this chapter, I just feel Happy.” That’s the best way to describe this chapter I’ve ever heard, because it’s the best way to be after seeing a old cartoon show!!! WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE!!! 😁
Luffy having a zoan fruit is such a surprise! The whole time I’ve been following this series I’ve always placed zoan fruits as being the weakest/lamest while seeing logia as the pinnacle of the DF power system, so to have our MC wielding a zoan and climbing to the top of the world is really surprising and fun. Mythical zoan are way different from regular zoan fruits though I guess
@@thegoldengamer9315 All depends on the powers they come with I feel like. Speculation here but at this point I could see Luffys fruit specifically having reality bending powers alike "if he thinks itd be funny its okay"
I'm not sure how I feel about this revelation. I loved the Idea of Luffy having an average power, and making it great through creativity and determination.
@@primalmammalmedia4758 yeah I feel like That was a big reach and fans are just eating it up it really sounds like a retcon tbh. The whole thing about him be enel was he was his natural counter rubber so I don’t really see the connection it is what it is but yeah I don’t get how it went from rubber boy to god. Good story either way.
I feel you this is a retcon for the sake of giving Luffy god powers when he never needed them in the first place. Plus his character is about freedom not destiny if he wants to "save the world" he will because he wants to not because of destiny, now he's just another "chosen one" with god powers like Naruto.
I think what a lot of people don't get is that Luffy still has an average pretty useless fruit. Yes, it has the potential to awaken into a goofy god creature, but by no means that's the base power of the fruit, nor what every user will experience. Luffy earned this new gear, for the sole reason that he's the only person willing to put all of his will into something as dumb as rubber. For the sole reason that Luffy saw potential where others saw something useless. The fact that so many people just want to b*tch and moan that Luffy is now another chosen one is dumb, ALL PROTAGONISTS ARE "THE CHOSEN ONE". All of them are made to be the ones that win at the end and always thrive; this would never demean any of their efforts as a character.
Since I started reading One Piece in 2003, I have cried three times whilst reading. First time when Merry was sent off in flames, second time when Ace died, third time for chapter 1044, the latter was the first time it was tears of joy. I can't describe in words how much this has impacted my life.
I'm happy for you, like genuinely happy this chapter brought you such joy (boy) because I know exactly how you feel. Tears of joy are unbelievably satisfying, there's no other feeling quite like it.
Luffy is a simple character. He sees something and takes inspiration from it: animals, weapons, his enemies, his bro. My point being that anything we see from Luffy we'll have seen before from other characters. The floor pull is the character who hangs out with Evankov, the gender switching one.
@@yannnguessan9347 To be fair, he doesn't really need to,cause their powers are basically the same. Also, he kinda already has, cause he's now able to use future sight.
Yeah exactly, the original reason.... (Or fan theories) didn't make all that much sense, but now...... Ahhhh its all coming together... God damn Oda is incredible
The best way I can describe the situation with Luffy’s fruit is this: The Gorosei explicitly tell us this fruit has a will of its own and a strong one. They also tell us it hasn’t awakened in 800 years. This to me implies two things: 1) the Gorosei aren’t immortal themselves and some of them are more informed than others, as seen by the looks of shock when certain revelations are made. 2) other people have eaten the “Gomu Gomu” fruit and did not have a personality/will power to match the fruit’s. I imagine the Gomu to be like the Master Sword or the One Ring. It had a will of its own and is looking for a suitable vessel that exhibits traits that it holds the most esteem towards, such as Luffy’s value of freedom. I think it’s very telling Luffy’s and Roger’s shared dream is freedom as a means to an end, this fruit is the means. Luffy’s not the chosen one, Luffy’s the one who chooses. This fruit is a lot like Luffy, bc it too chose. It just turns out they’re very similar and both chance and destiny had a date the day Luffy and his fruit came together, much the same as how the Ring found Bilbo. Intentional with some happenstance.
Hyori probably had the best drawn panel in this chapter calling Orochi a wretch while crying was a powerful and emotional panel and it was so perfectly drawn.
That funny but in serious note i doubt luffy knows what his fruit really is. Even if people tell him, hell just use "gomu gomu no" attacks. That seems like something he would do
This is such an incredible moment in one piece history and I’m thankful I was alive to witness it. I can’t even imagine what it will be like for people to read one piece for the first time knowing about this.
I think Luffy is "the chosen one" in the same way The Chosen Undead in Dark Souls is "the chosen one." It's not destiny that LUFFY would do the things, just that SOMEONE would. It just ends up being Luffy that becomes the chosen one through his actions rather than preordained fate. (If you are unaware, in Dark Souls there's a 'prophecy' of the chosen undead going on a pilgrimmage to link the fire. Yoir character is only 'destined' to link the fire because you go out and do it, not because you are fated to do it.)
@@AJJr-hc5lz That's the point of the game, yes, but not the lore. The lore is that someone will link the fire. Not Jimbomb the Undead will link the fire. Just that someone is gonna do it. So you are 'the chosen undead' not because fate chose YOU to link the fire, but because you were the one who was able to link the fire and then went and did it. Anyone could have been 'Joyboy' but Luffy actually did all the things necessary. At least that's how I see it.
@@uJackPackage right it’s more like the prophecy was proven right the moment YOUR character links the fire. There just happens to be countless dead along the way that failed to do what you’re doing.
The thing that happened with Kanjuro's spirit, imo, is that Orochi's command to Kanjuro while he was making it in chapter 1030 played it's role. Orochi final command was that of "Free their souls, Kanjuro... free us in a final blaze of glory!" The spirit returned with just a little power left to free Orochi in a blaze.
Loved that instead of seeing Hiyori become a killer even if it was by avenging Oden and in a way Kanjuro being the samurai that did it kiiiinda redeemed him, but just a bit. Like when kin finds out he'll smile.
I’ll be honest, on first reading the chapter I wasn’t a fan of the “Luffy actually had a super special devil fruit the whole time” revelation. But, after thinking further, to me this form being given as gear 5 is really important, as it signifies that this form isn’t something Luffy just got by awakening his fruit, but rather he had ideas on how he wanted to expand on the fruit, and this just gave him the ability to do so - basically I think this was the best way of doing something that, conceptually, I don’t think was the best idea
Idk dude the more you think about it the more it makes sense…like yeah it was cool that he found ways to make such a mediocre power seem so strong with everything he did with it…but it kind of made me wonder like why??? Why is it HE can do allllllll this shit with his devil fruit but no one else can? And I just chalked it up to him being the main character so obviously he needs new powers and power ups. Now there’s a legitimate reason behind it…like they said it allows the user to fight in anyway they want(or something like that) which lines up perfectly with Luffy always using goofy attacks or changing his form completely…
@@gamingboy3066 Yeah but this doesnt change the fact that luffy came came up with all of hes attacks by himself and was basically using the gum gum fruit

It’s moments like these that make me question the passage of time. Gear 5 was something like an urban legend among fans for years, so it’s extremely weird that we are in the point of time were it’s actually canon now
No the gears weren't that at all. All he did with the gears is use his rubber power to float around the blood in his body faster, and put air into his body like a balloon and then harden. Gears are in no way zoan forms but logical abilities luffy did with his rubber body.
@@PopLol Not just that though, he is imagining himself to become a snakeman, boundman and tankman. His powers have ability to alter reality and him thinking about what he wants to be probably plays more part than Luffy calculating how he can be scientifically this and that. This is not just different animal forms he has the power or rather the imagination to be whatever cartoonish thing he wants to be. This all can be explained by how he is blowing air into his skin but his punches actually become stronger rather than probably becoming softer.
@@PopLol yeah the clear cartoonishness of model nika works well as an explanation for all of Luffy’s “Gomu Gomu” moves because cartoons and animated characters definitely exhibit ‘stretchy’ properties. Even the classic inflating of limbs through physically blowing air into them (you might see in something like Popeye). One Piece to me has always straddled this really interesting balance of ridiculous cartoonishness (Usopp’s fight with Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas comes to mind) while still being grounded enough that the stakes and danger feel real. Really interesting development and stylistic choice
@@mikeoath9541 I think the haki played a key role in making gear 4's muscles harder rather than softer like they should've been. armament haki helped shape bound, snake, and tank man.
@@Dreq458 I'm talking about before Haki. You do know that when he first unlocked it and using it without haki. Imagine getting hit by Luffy's fist. Would probably hurt like a bitch, imagine getting hit with the same force but huge, force will be equally distributed, you might get knocked off wherever you're standing but you will suffer much much less damage. Him imagining that the bigger fists does more damage gave it more damage. Haki is something else by itself and I'm not discussing about that.
I genuinely love this. Other than Snakeman, this is the first Luffy power-up I'm experiencing as a weekly reader... Furthermore, it all adds up with what we've had so far; Shanks told us the name of the fruit, most likely learnt that from the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia (influenced by the WG), it's classification was given by Enel, lines up with Oda's explanation concerning how someone learns the name of their fruit from the SBS... I can't wait to see how this plays out❤️it's a great time to be a One Piece fan.
It would be interesting Luffy can warp reality just like how a sun warps space. That would be a real big brain on Oda’s part. I mean when people think of the sun and stars they don’t usually think of space warping.
I really like how Oda made sure to specify it’s the most “ridiculous” power and not the most powerful one, and how it’s still tied to luffys own imagination.
The most powerful ability would be the most destructive (like Gura Gura no mi) in this case. Luffy's not a kind of guy who would destroy stuff without a reason (even though it still happens while he acts), so with his new powers he might actually be able to avoid collateral damage.
In a really early interview when Oda first commented on Luffy's powers he said he chose rubber powers because they looked "ridiculous" and he wanted a funny and entertaining fighter amongst all these badasses. The fact he used that exact word in the manga shows how long he had this in mind if not planned
Been rewatching as I’ve been reading and it makes so much sense. So many little things like him being able to tank so many mortal blows from Katakuri because he’s actually zoan, to why he refused to have the dressrosa warriors submit to him because he is liberation incarnate.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is why the WG didn't make Luffy's bounty much higher much earlier knowing what his fruit actually is, or why the admirals didn't all just aim to kill Luffy at the start of Marineford? Maybe they didn't think he could awaken it until recently?
I mean, it's been floating around for 800 years. They probably found that the majority of users died easily enough without having to draw mega attention like with Robin.
I think they wanted to quietly get him. If they draw attention to a random kid (which he was at the start of the story) it would be suspicous and would bring attention to his fruit and him beating warlords (which we know they didn't want out in the public). Although I say this it may just be another fruit related plot hole like with buggy.
Probably to keep it from seeming like a big deal. They never had control of the fruit so the best way to hide it was in plain sight. It was always a worry that the fruit would awaken, but it was just as likely that Luffy would have died at any point before this. They only acted after SHANKS talked to them, near certainly Luffy, and Luffy going 1 on 1 with Kaido more than anyone could've imagined.
I think Ace could have ended up the "chosen one" if Shanks had found him first. Roger wanted him to give it to his son but as he couldn't find him Luffy was the next best thing
Now that he’s officially a Zoan user it makes so much sense! Back during the enies lobby arc Rob Lucci was shocked that a paramythia was capable of transforming. Oda had us all believing sun god nika and joy boy were two different people or titles but really nika is a mythological entity and it never crossed anybody mind that nika could be a devil fruit just the same as Buddha.
Not to mention how utterly resilient and regenerative he has been over the course of One Piece: the comebacks against Croc, the poison in Impel Down, battling Katakuri/Cracker for several hours, pushing his body further to get an edge in combat, and just... his durabilty IN GENERAL.
@@UltraDraco777 that used to be because he's got a rubber body. Heck, even guns can't pierce him. Him smashing into a building don't do as much damage bc of rubber. Also it had to do with determination. But now he's not even luffy anymore

It would explain so much of his abilities, and its awakening could have been similar to Katakuri's, but we would have seen how differently and creatively Luffy could use it. In the end, it will still be similar, but I would have liked a more scientific explanation, rather then: "Here, this fruit makes you god and you can do whatever you want. Oh, and you also stretch."
Shock is definitely the right word for this chapter. I'm just wondering what fights going forward will be like. I also agree with something you've said before that when luffy and the others are the "chosen ones" it seems like their accomplishments are somewhat mitigated
I rather think Luffy is not a chosen one per say but, like Whitebeard say just one of the few rare kind of people that Roger was waiting for, than rather than he is the only one, he was the one Nika found meet its criteria. Regardless I think, this does nothing to diminish Luffy's accomplishment. because they were done because he wanted to and not because he had to. Even if Luffy does turn out to be a chosen one, that means nothing to Luffy because he will do what he wants to do not what destiny tells him to do.
I think this whole situation was handled exceptionally well. So we all knew that Luffy was gonna end up as joy boy in one or another and people feared that it would make luffy overpowered or not as special. What I like about this reveal is the fact that the fruit is still silly and goofy despite being a mythical zoan. I like the description as the most ridiculous power on the planet, I take it to mean the power is ridiculous in a whimsical humorous stance and not in a crazy god mode sense. I think this was a good compromise on luffy still being a goofy fun loving pirate and him being a so called "god"
What I like is the fruit is only as powerful as the wielder's mind. If you don't have the imagination and creativity to get the most out of it, you'll simply be a basic rubber guy... which I'm sure is what most users over the last 800 years were, and thats why it was easy for the WG to rebrand it as the Gomu Gomu no Mi. However, if you are truly smart and creative, it becomes much more powerful, and if you have the will necessary to Awaken the fruit, which it seems only Luffy has since Joy Boy, then it becomes insanely strong.
I'm watching the anime but because I don't have a lot of time to read Manga, I'm using these videos as a way to catch up on the manga while the anime inches along. I desperately want to see this animated! I can't wait to see Luffy's reawakening!
Theory: Luffy's Sun God Nika powers has similar healing powers like Marco's Phoenix flames. He uses to heal everyone there, similar to Pain's jutsu to revive everyone.
I think this theory is already a fact because it is stated on chapter 1044 that the power of Luffys DF is only limited only to its user's imagination so I think that if Luffy can create flames like Marco that can heal others maybe he can actually do it If he thought of doing so
Quick question, did the five elder stars only just now find out that Luffy has it? Why's it taken them so long to freak out about it? And if they did only now find out about it... why? Luffy has been an infamous figure for two years at this point, so it's odd to me the elders wouldnt have at least heard that the dude has rubber powers.
We have to remember, the fruit has been under observation for 800 years without someone awakening it. It wasn't until recently that Luffy actually became a problem to the government and showed signs of being able to awaken the fruit. I'd say after Doflamingo
Gorosei themselves think that the fruit true power is just a myth since nobody was able to awaken it for 800 years. So it makes sense for them to think Luffy is just another nobody. It all change i think after Shanks meet them and when CPO in Wano give them the current situation where Luffy is currently fighting with Kaido which may cause the fruit to be awakened. No matter if they still believe it to be a myth, its not a risk they’re willing to take.
And even if it wasn't a myth. The government had their hands full with other affairs that was more important than Luffy. Remember, there were definitely other figures that had the Gomu Gomu no Mi in the last 800 years, aside from Luffy and Joyboy. And it only happened to be now that Luffy is the first one to awaken it in the last 800 years.
@@j.a.3335 There's no indication whatsoever that anybody but Luffy has ever eaten the "Hito-Hito model Nika" fruit. CLEARLY he is not the only ever user of that fruit but the manga never hints at any other user OVERTLY. Obvious hints that Joy Boy was "A or The" previous user, but up until this chapter that was not confirmed, and even with this chapter it isn't overtly stated, but implied by Zunesha hearing Joy Boy's heartbeat when Luffy awakens the HH-Nika fruit. We have no idea if there were other "Gomu Gomu" fruit users between Joy Boy and Luffy, and any claim to the contrary is just speculation. For all we know the fruit wasn't eaten by anybody between Joy Boy and Luffy. The Gorosei explicitly stated that Zoan type fruits have a will of their own; that doesn't exclude that will to when they are eaten. They may very well, and I believe they do, have a will of their own as simple devil fruit, and I believe they choose their users as equally as their users choose them.
Luffy being a mythical zoan just makes me think of the SBS question of “what would happen if a human ate the human-human fruit”? Become a god, apparently.
The nika fruit was said to have a will, so luffy WAS the chosen one before getting the fruit, instead of being the chosen one because he just happened to get the fruit
The chapter literally made me smile and laugh so hard while reading the chapter and I just realized how meta it is that the power of Nika even works in our world :D
Yo I completely agree. This has been one of if not the best chapters of the series. Ever since reading 1044 I've just been super happy. Talk about Joy-boy bringing the laughter. 😁 ... also want to mention that the cartoon-y effects are strumming childhood heart strings with the looney toon references endearing me to the series all over again.
knowing that Zoan fruits have a will of their own, I like to imagine that Luffy and the Nika fruit chose each other. Luffy just wanted a snack, and the fruit thought it would be hilarious, and now they are perfect for one another.
Who knows, maybe it was the same with Yamato's, the good boi in the fruit saw a good person in Yamato and made it so that she would make her way to it despite being in a weakened delirious state.
With this fruit being all about imagination, it explains a lot of Luffy things in the past that were kind of wacky. Like with Second Gear rushing Luffy’s blood flow sounds wacky and not possible, but because the power of Nika is up to Luffy’s imagination, it just works
Dude it even explains how he can use fire for Red Hawk. I was always sitting there like rubber can't do that. But the zoan explanation makes sense to a degree on why he was able to do it.
@@w0ykj dear God no. The ork race can only effect really if a big group pf orks belive in it And is further exentuated by their races stupidity while luffy is just "why not it sounds funny"
Hey, just thinking here about Chapter 1044 and I would like your help to know If what I'm thinking makes sense. 1- The fruit is aways running from the World GOVT. 2- Shanks has access to the 5 elders. 2.2 - Shanks was taking the Fruit to the Elders 3- Shanks had the fruit and was passing by Luffy's Island 4- Luffy accidentally ate the Fruit. 5- The fruit used Luffy to run from the World Govt. 6- Shanks did'nt killed Luffy out of love? Was Shanks going to delivery the fruit to the World Govt. when Luffy ate it?! Is Shanks working for the five Elders?????
I absolutely loved this chapter. God dam gear 5th is the best luffy form hands down and the design is so good. It makes me wonder if anything luffy touches becomes a cartoon, like how kaidos design got more comical when luffy started swinging him around, or is it an area of affect sort of thing. Either way gear 5th is amazing
I think Roger found out on laugh tale, that one key to use one piece is the awakening of the gumo gumo no mi. That's why he gave shanks the order to steal the fruit bring it to his son, so that ace can become joy boy. What nobody taught was, that luffy would eat the fruit by accident, but maybe the fruit chose luffy on porpuse. Shanks realized it and at that moment he know luffy would become joyboy. So he sacrificed his arm and gave him the Straw hat. Also Rayleigh knew back on sabadoy Archipel that luffy needs to awakening the devil fruit, that is why he said, that even if he tells them we're one piece is, they could do nothing and could not change the world... I don't think that oda planed all this back 25 years ago, but it is crazy how things click now :)... Yeah and chapter is a 10/10
Well you cant really say that Oda planned this all those years ago since all he wanted was a 5 year story dealing mostly with the warlords. We can give huge credits to him tho for being able to connect all those things into a huge storyline into where we are now.
@@sonofthesea9184 It's Warlords. The story was set revolve around the warlords of the sea and him beating them to One Piece (not exactly accurate, but along those lines). The Yonko were only introduced much later in the story.
I think its cool that his fruit is much more powerful but at the same time i dont think ill ever stop feeling sad it wasnt just a normal fruit and luffy was just a master of battling and making moves
yea i am watching wci island right now its hitting hard i love luffy for this fruit idk what this bs about him being a god and op is about i cant hate it as oda always finds a way to make it work
Writing a short novel here the tl:dr is - I LOVE this story twist First off: "The mose Ridiculous (absurd/silly) Power" This is the perfect power up for Luffy and is so much more in line with what One Piece is at it's core than a traditional shonen power up (not that there is anything wrong with those, I was as hype as any with the first Super Saiyan transformation haha) Second: Being a mythical zoan makes a ton of sense to me and answers some questions I had about Luffy in a satisfying way, it explains his insane endurance and recovery rate, his keen senses (I think remember Nami telling Chopper that Luffy's "animal sense" may be stronger than his, but don't recall exactly where and when that conversation happened) and the Gear system makes way more sense now - I mean I could kinda buy gear 2 and 3 being simply weird applications of rubber but gear 4 was too strange with the body marks and billowing smoke. As others have likely stated, it's not too different of a concept than Choppers (another hito-hito btw) "points" Third: The big issue that I've seen and can understand the most is, why didn't the world government send everything they have at Luffy as soon as they knew he had the Gum-Gum fruit? Well this is a bit of head canon and we'll just have to wait and see if Oda explains it himself but . . . - they don't know about him at all or that he has the fruit for the majority of his life - Only the Gorosei seem to know the true nature of the fruit and keep it under wraps, so normal navy officers wouldn't necessarily think to push a big report that makes it all the way to the Gorosei immediatly - even when they did find out, there's also the fact that it hasn't been an issue for 800 years, so they probably wouldn't immediatly think it would awaken from some random kid from the weakest sea, and don't want to immediatly draw huge attention on him for the fruit (thus making it very desirable to other forces) - they aren't omniscient and don't know Luffy's location at any given point in time, he shows up somewhere and is usually gone or escapes capture by the time the closest navy force does show up to bring him down (or has outside help like Dragon in Lougetown/Kuma in Sabaody/ Tons of people at Marineford/Fujitora following his own justice and letting him go etc.) . . . remember as long as it takes in real time any given arc isn't really all that long in universe - As far as we know, the Gorosei are still human and prone to human error - they themselves are gonna be kicking themselves for NOT acting sooner when they find out their worst fear has been realized . . . but as the old saying goes "hindsight is 20/20" If you made it this far you're a real one - thank you for reading my attempt at a logical defense of a silly story that was never meant to be taken super seriously >:)
Luffy being a Zoan also gives the whole endgame against Blackbeard another meaning. Right now we're all assuming, Blackbeard was aiming for a logia, a paramecia and a zoan-fruit. So what if the zoan he was aiming for has been Luffys Nika fruit right from the start? What do you think?
@@Gladex_Gamer , I was going to say if anything after Luffy beats up Kaido to permanent unconsciousness then Black Beard would show up kill Kaido then take Kaido’s Devil Fruit, and him having the three strongest Devil Fruit types being the Koi Zoan Fruit, the Dark Dark Logia Fruit, and the Tremor Tremor Fruit, so that way in the epilogue and/or Final War only Black Beard would be the only Pirate being truly equal to Luffy’s strength.
Anybody thought about how lowkey fourth wall breaking Luffy's new power is? Sun God Nika was said to liberate people and put smiles on their faces. Oda has said before that when he sees how happy One Piece makes people it makes him want to keep going and not disappoint his fans. I'm not saying it's purposeful, but I think it's a nice little thought considering how long Luffy has already been putting smiles on our faces and how many people Oda and his story have "liberated" from dark times in their lives.
I am really happy for Kaido. He finally gets the fight he has been seeking all this time. I hope there is more back story about Kaido and hopefully he knows more about joy boy and starts to realize that luffy is the true joy boy. I feel like the end of the fight might come down to one final blow a piece and Kaido pulls his punch letting luffy annihilate him more or less.
Blackbeard and Luffy theory: while the Sun God Luffy is always smiling, the Moon God Blackbeard is depicted crying under the Crescent moon (sad). Could there be a person from the Void Century that Joy Boy couldn't make smile who betrayed him? Maybe Luffy as JoyBoy has to make Blackbeard (sad boy) feel joy to connect the Moon and Sun. If you connect half of the Sun to the opening of the Crescent moon, it makes a Straw hat. Connecting the Sun(Luffy) and the Moon(Blackbeard) in a sense is connecting the world to form One Piece. Therefore meaning that Blackbeard is already or is going to be a Mythical Zoan User.
It's so great that this revelation doesnt diminish any of luffys accomplishments. Yes this is a mythical Zoan but it's his imagination that has truly brought out it's real strength. In the hand of someone like idk smoker this fruit probably wouldnt have met any of its potential.
It diminishes every single thing. Oda is basically saying, luffy was meant to be special all along, he just didn't know it! Plot convenience and plot armour at its finest
@@Killerqueen2000 remember how luffy was known as the fifth emperor without even knowing about his fruits actual power? Enies lobby? Sky piea? Dressrosa? Plot armour? Yes, pretty much explains the "does not diminish achievement" Thingy because he's correct, ok Luffys fruit is a mythical zoan, but it never showed it's true power ever in the entire series till now, so it was luffy all along doing everything by his own creativity
@Creepy Girl It's actually plot armor because Luffys the main character. Of course nobody else would be able to awaken it. Because they're not the chosen one, they're not the main character, the story isn't about them. It's about Luffy. Nobody would care if Bartalomeo had the Nika fruit because he's a side character and it wouldn't add anything to the story.
So hear me out... 1) Hito Hito no mi: model Nika hasn't awakened for the last 800 years and World Government was trying to acquire it for the last 800 years too. 2) Kozuki Toki Time traveled to Roger's era from 800 years ago. What if she was entrusted with the mission to bring the fruit to today and that's why world government never found it in 800 years cause it time traveled with Toki to 20 years ago in Roger's era. Being more of a toon makes so much sense retrospectively. Anything can happen in a cartoon as long as it is amusing. This explains why Luffy was able to take damage from a non-haki user like Nami and other various instances.
Love all the new developments, lore, and cracking of the oldest EASTER EGGS in all of anime. Lol this shit just got even greater!!! Can't wait to see how everything plays out and the voyage keeps getting more exciting.
It could be happening if shanks or sabo dies, it was kinda forshadowed with kaido switching forms with his émotions When drunk Could be the same When luffy Gets angry
Hard agree with the best One Piece experience. This chapter had made Wano one of, if not my absolute favorite arc. I love the reveal and the new design. When I first read the chapter, I couldn't stop laughing. Luffy has become a true Joy Boy. I like him being a zoan. I always felt like the zoan fruits weren't as respected as paramecias, not to mention the logias. Not to mention the Hiyori part.
@@tobiramasenju6290 Thanks for assuming, but no. I was legitimately laughing at the action. I was, unfortunately, spoiled about this reveal already. But reading it in earnest was legitimately funny. And the awakening reveal was done well. A sun god needing to die before awakening/ bring reborn? Makes a lot of sense to me.
Another thing i've been looking after all this, Oda said Ruffy is Brazilian right, here in brazil we have a folklore about a being called "curupira", is a being that has the silhouette of a native, carring spear, hair constantly on fire and is said to be really mischievous in a deadly and funny way, also, he protect the natives, plants and animals against suffering, playing sometimes deadly pranks to scare people, similar to another brazillian folkloric being called "Saci Pererê". Now it would be cool if this inspired Luffy new power, but the similarities stop there, curupira also has another stuff that Luffy does not have, but I would not be surprised if his design was inspired by that. But I could be wrong, specially considering the african folklore about the "Joy Boy", but thinking about it, honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if "Curupira" himself and even "Saci" was based on "Joy Boy" but with some extra stuff, since, brazillian folklore and culture are either inspired or were merged with african culture due to portuguese colonies with their slave trade, where most ended up in brazil.
If you are wondering.. just make a quick search on YT.. Ne zha vs Dragon. Look for 3 minutes video. Gear 5th might be inspired by Ne zha, god of sun in chinese mythology. Fun fact is, in the video, you can see Ne zha fight versus Ao bing, blue dragon. And their fight took place on a flying island (coincidence?). If you look closely enough, the houses look like wano's. And the last fact is, in the second movie, ne zha fought Monkey King, sun wo kong.
@@bryansahertian4589 yep, its possible, also there is lots of beings with similar characteristics to Luffy now, I just made the comment about what a cool reference this would be
One problem I have is that a great appeal of One Piece was that the Gomu Gomu no Mi was not a particularly strong devil fruit. The story was that Luffy was strong with his devil fruit, and not strong because of it. I don't think that narrative still works anymore.
The update on the fruit is bittersweet for me. Hi, I'm Ben, and I'm nowhere near caught up, but spoilers don't bother me. I always liked how luffy didn't have some crazy op fruit to carry him, and I feel like he did a great job of displaying how even a seemingly useless paramecia can be good in the right hands. It was always cool to me to see how all he needed was his battle iq and a little stretching to turn the tides of battle. I'm in no way against this revelation, and I think it's really cool that he actually has such an interesting fruit. I guess I just kind of expected him to carry the paramecia type devil fruit on his back throughout the story. Still, sun god luffy is super rad. That's all from me.
hey ben! ive been reading for 14 years and im 100% with ya, but i feel like there were other mistakes made before in the story, causing this to be a sort of “best case scenario” . what makes one piece as a concept so good is “ a random boy with the power of rubber who cant swim wants to be the king of pirates”
@@jhermitcrab yeah I think it lost some of its “impossible dream” aspects. Like I said, it’s rad that it’s all tied in now, but I think I might miss his creativity carrying him.
On the other hand, Luffy has spent his whole life up to this point thinking that possibly the weakest power his fruit has to offer was its only power, and yet look how far he's come. Even when its true nature was hidden and most people would find it useless compared to other fruits, Luffy changed the world with it. This kind of revelation always risks undermining the importance of everything before it, but it doesn't have to do that.
@@benthegremlin_3957 to be fair, it is still Luffy's creativity carrying him. If someone with little to no imagination ate this fruit it would be pretty useless. The core power of this fruit is bringing the user's imagination into reality. Luffy's insane imagination and creativity is what allows this fruit to thrive. Also, I was actually in the same boat as you originally. Being not too terribly thrilled about this revelation. But then yesterday I read a comment on Tekking101's video for this chapter. That comment compared the way Luffy's fruit works to how Chopper's fruit works. They're surprisingly similar when you dive into it. Which actually makes sense since they're both hito hito fruits. Hope this helps!
When this chapter dropped I literally didn’t sleep for 2 days because I kept re reading it and couldn’t sleep after seeing the last panel again. Can’t wait to see what Oda does with this new power.
So.. my thoughts are that Red-Hair was warning the Gorosei about Luffy when he visited them. As suggested, his observation haki lets him see further into the future than most. He let them know that Luffy would awaken his devil-fruit, so they set out to kill him before this happened. Only Shanks knew this was one of the conditions to awaken the fruit and done so to help Luffy.
A thing I started thinking of while listening here. When Roger reached Laugh Tale, they were all laughing, smiling... just feeling happy in general. The Sun God's power is making people smile. I'm starting to wonder if the One Piece is, rather than something that they just laughed from, just literally a thing that makes you feel happiness. At this point, I couldn't be more excited to know what the treasure is.
I absolutely love this outcome, I saw the logical thinking of resin but it never gave me that sense that gorosei needed to fear its existence and enrage Kaido to stop it. A mythical Zoan is a perfect fit considering his fast recovery, even after defeat he just gets back up and recovers like the awakened zoans of impel down. Watching someone's reaction channel of one piece lately, and the context of his fruit's true nature makes things click perfectly. Example: the feast at the end of Alabasta, the royal guards are disgusted by the pirates and then slowly start laughing and joining in... next Bon Clay calls and says that he has their ship and they are friends now, zero says, "if it's because of you luffy, he really could be a friend". Dang that's good
I have never even made a sound while reading one piece, only ever got silently amazed. This chapter had me scream in excitement several times. Easily my favourite OP chapter ever defs feels weird calling luffy a zoen but I welcome the change
I loved this chapter it felt like peak Oda. A big reason I fell in love with one piece was the humor and how it was pretty consistently throughout the series. This almost brings that full circle and it’s a lot of fun. I also don’t think it negates anything that Luffy did prior. It’s not the rubber fruit but they state it gives the user rubber properties and luffy had no idea. A normal person never comes close to awakening it and it was only after everything luffy went through that he got to this point. It’s like a reward 😂
@@MisaelMatute76 Yea I see your point but I think we gotta give Oda the benefit of the doubt. It’s still too early to tell what was planned from early on and what was retconned (I’m not silly enough to think nothing was retconned). Oda had been dropping hints / foreshadowing for quite some time so it’s not like he’s been making things up as he goes. Now if we find out that all of the admirals are actually mythical zoans or some crazy ish like that then I will gladly stfu 🤣🤣
That is one thing I really love with Oda's way of writing is the creativity. One piece do have a lot of tropes that's also seen in other series but even with that it's unique and goofy. Unique characters and powers yet so cool. This power up is unexpected too in a way. It's something non-one piece fans don't get
I am of two minds right now. On the one hand, it's perfect. Since Chapter 1018, it was obvious that Luffy was in possession of Joy Boy's Devil Fruit & that said DF would make Luffy into some incarnation of Nika. All of the hints from the past ~9 months were point us in this direction and fans have strongly suspected a reveal like this since seeing Gear 4th (possibly even earlier). It fits in nicely w/ lore pertaining to inherited will, the D clan, Luffy as a prophesized savior, and supports the overarching plot of OP as a story about freedom. Good stuff so far. On the other hand, the fact that it's a mythical zoan DF that transforms our plucky protagonist into a literal deity kinda makes me want to vomit. Reeks of that bad shounen trope where the MC gets back-to-back power ups that amps them from a 5/10 to an 11/10 on the powerscale, almost out of nowhere. I much prefered the resin/oil fruit theory, giving Luffy an upgrade from basic paramecia to special paramecia (or even special logia). You know, something grounded & reasonable. That said, it is OP, so maybe I was a fool for thinking that. In either case, Gear 5th is cool as hell. Can't wait to see Luffy curbstomp Kaido, and then never use Gear 5th again (till the fight w/ Blackbeard, calling it now).
You literally spoke the words of my mind. The first thing I thought when I read the spoilers were "Am I reading a fan fiction?". It just sounded too good to be true an I loved it.

Imo ...it shows how free he has become..... this is the peak!
Toon Powers are a hell of a weapon
I guess its been hinted way back, i mean look at the thousand sunny ship.
yes I truly agree
Ya, also why would goro sei be afraid of resin fruit and why change it to rubber
Yeah the Resin fruit sounds like it would have just been another Devil Fruit. The outcome that we got is way more brilliant in my opinion .
Well said
I think Blackbeard saying that is also a hint that shanks intended to give the fruit to ace before luffy accidentally ate it
Perfect 👍

Blackbeard and luffy's fruits also look very similar, I'm probably reaching but that was something I found interesting
Luffy being physically tough and able to recover quickly makes much more sense now as those are traits of Zoans.

It reminds me of how Toriyama in DBZ Battle of Gods made SSG slim instead of bulky like everyone was expecting. It's the kind of subversion that nobody sees coming and didn't know they needed until after.
It’s perfectly encapsulates the reason Oda originally chose rubber powers for Luffy.
I always wondered about a human human fruit, but never did I think it was luffy and never did I think it was like this

This revelation actually explains gear 3rd as well. The weird power boost he gets from blowing up his arm like a balloon was always cartoony.
Jerry litterally goes gear 3rd against tom, just look it up on youtube and it's the first thing that will pop up.
And it explains why luffy get small afterwards
Also explains gear 4th Bound man. I remember back then when he first did it against Doffy, so many people thought that it looked to cartoony, and weird and didn’t seem to make sense to people at first etc.. then it grew on everyone, I know I didn’t like it at first but then I ended up loving it all. Also, explains his one G4 attack “Kong Organ” where he literally makes 6 arms out of seemingly thin air.. lol makes sense now
It’s dope that you mentioned this. I was assuming tht it was just production
OP

Roger was one of the people who failed to awaken it.
You have confir.ation of this from the original joyboy companion itself...
Roger unfortunately did not eat a devil fruit so that last spot is if Kaido is to believed then this is impossible.
Even with "joke" moves, like "branch" (eda?), or "octopus" and "boh" vs Enel (writing names out of memory, might be getting them wrong)
All whacky and funny and cartoonish!
And 1st move on Gear 5? Pinwheel! (Though he didn't "chant" it)

Yeah i was explaining this to my friends yesterday too
exactly
Also I kinda see it as a “reward” for him having a shitty ability this whole time. Like finally after 20 years Oda can make him op
Makes me think of Lemillion from my hero. “Useless” quirk turned OP by Mirios sheer will alone.
Nika being a higher god than the god of Enel could explain that.
you know what. I'm all in with your theory

But actually, it makes a lot of sense why luffy could do gears 1-5… because zoans have transformation forms!
underrated comment. we have a clear example from Chopper all this while yet nobody saw this. Oda is trolling with everyone 😂
Gears aren’t transformations. They’re different implementations of Luffys rubber powers. The only one that comes close to a transformation is Gear 4.
Also Luffy is a human who at a human-human fruit. Meaning his zoan forms aren’t easily identifiable.

I agree, this G5 form perfectly fits Luffy. I was worried for a while about how his awakening or G5 looks like. I'm very glad it fits Luffy perfectly.. 20/10 chapter ☺️

Also, am I wrong or do Luffy, Sengoku and Chopper all have the Human-Human fruit now? (Obviously different forms but still) I think that's kinda cool
Onimaru, the fox companion of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, has a Human Human fruit as well
Except Choppers is not mythical. You could say he has the most basic out of all them.
Chopper has the regular human fruit, sengoku has mythical model buddha and luffy has nika

Good story either way.
The Gomu-Gomu nomi still starts off incredibly underwhelming. And it’s not like Gear 5th is going to make Luffy omnipotent.

Yeah exactly, the original reason.... (Or fan theories) didn't make all that much sense, but now...... Ahhhh its all coming together... God damn Oda is incredible
The best way I can describe the situation with Luffy’s fruit is this:
The Gorosei explicitly tell us this fruit has a will of its own and a strong one.
A very unexpected Journey you could say.
Hyori probably had the best drawn panel in this chapter calling Orochi a wretch while crying was a powerful and emotional panel and it was so perfectly drawn.
You know what Luffys fruit being a zoan means right? Next chapter he's going to say
" This is how Nika hunted his prey in prehistoric times" 💀

😬😬
hahahahhaha that would be fabulous
And then Zoro will say that he's the reason all the Nika's are facing extinction.
That funny but in serious note i doubt luffy knows what his fruit really is. Even if people tell him, hell just use "gomu gomu no" attacks. That seems like something he would do
I think him being a zoan actually fits because his other gears always seemed like zoan alternate forms
This is such an incredible moment in one piece history and I’m thankful I was alive to witness it. I can’t even imagine what it will be like for people to read one piece for the first time knowing about this.
I think Luffy is "the chosen one" in the same way The Chosen Undead in Dark Souls is "the chosen one."
It's not destiny that LUFFY would do the things, just that SOMEONE would.
Good explanation! Using Dark Souls to explain something in One Piece.. I've never seen someone link two drastically different series together lol.
You kinda are fated to do it as it's kind of important to the game. Literally have to do it.

This is it exactly. Kanjuros spirit followed his orders word for word, Orchid just wasn't specific enough
Glad to see I ain't the only one who realize that.

It would be interesting Luffy can warp reality just like how a sun warps space. That would be a real big brain on Oda’s part. I mean when people think of the sun and stars they don’t usually think of space warping.
Yeah true
On top of that why did Grap never thought about Luffy's DF and informed Marine before hand?
To be fair a lot of devil fruits have a lot of overlap so they may not have fully realized

I feel Shanks told them about it when we had that one scene with Shanks visiting them.
What a time to be a Onepiece fan.
I here ya girl. It's ok to be gay
bad time
The chapter literally made me smile and laugh so hard while reading the chapter and I just realized how meta it is that the power of Nika even works in our world :D
Same!!! I just posted a comment saying that! Oda is a genius!
He’s done it. He’s finally became the legendary Super Saiyan.
”I am a super sandwich!”
Yo I completely agree. This has been one of if not the best chapters of the series. Ever since reading 1044 I've just been super happy. Talk about Joy-boy bringing the laughter. 😁
... also want to mention that the cartoon-y effects are strumming childhood heart strings with the looney toon references endearing me to the series all over again.
Luffy’s devil fruit was basically Jim Carrey’s green mask the whole time! What an amazing chapter. GLR breakdown of everything was absolutely spot on
knowing that Zoan fruits have a will of their own, I like to imagine that Luffy and the Nika fruit chose each other. Luffy just wanted a snack, and the fruit thought it would be hilarious, and now they are perfect for one another.
You got me at 'the fruit thought it would be hilarious' 😂
Knowing Oda, that might be canon
Facts
When you explain it like this it makes luffy sound like a 40k ork
Luffy is a warhammer40k ork, confirmed
As long as he can make some sort of dumb tool explanation it will work
@@w0ykj dear God no.
2.2 - Shanks was taking the Fruit to the Elders
3- Shanks had the fruit and was passing by Luffy's Island
4- Luffy accidentally ate the Fruit.
5- The fruit used Luffy to run from the World Govt.
6- Shanks did'nt killed Luffy out of love?
Was Shanks going to delivery the fruit to the World Govt. when Luffy ate it?! Is Shanks working for the five Elders?????
I absolutely love the way the story is progressing. It felt like all those years of storytelling are finally coming together.

@@asheshgupta4845 was it yonko? I remember it being warlords and yonko wasnt even part of the original idea.
@@sonofthesea9184 It's Warlords. The story was set revolve around the warlords of the sea and him beating them to One Piece (not exactly accurate, but along those lines). The Yonko were only introduced much later in the story.

I think its cool that his fruit is much more powerful but at the same time i dont think ill ever stop feeling sad it wasnt just a normal fruit and luffy was just a master of battling and making moves
yea i am watching wci island right now its hitting hard i love luffy for this fruit idk what this bs about him being a god and op is about i cant hate it as oda always finds a way to make it work
Such a hype point in the one piece history glad I've been a part of this story for so long
Writing a short novel here the tl:dr is - I LOVE this story twist
First off: "The mose Ridiculous (absurd/silly) Power" This is the perfect power up for Luffy and is so much more in line with what One Piece is at it's core than a traditional shonen power up (not that there is anything wrong with those, I was as hype as any with the first Super Saiyan transformation haha)
Second: Being a mythical zoan makes a ton of sense to me and answers some questions I had about Luffy in a satisfying way, it explains his insane endurance and recovery rate, his keen senses (I think remember Nami telling Chopper that Luffy's "animal sense" may be stronger than his, but don't recall exactly where and when that conversation happened) and the Gear system makes way more sense now - I mean I could kinda buy gear 2 and 3 being simply weird applications of rubber but gear 4 was too strange with the body marks and billowing smoke. As others have likely stated, it's not too different of a concept than Choppers (another hito-hito btw) "points"
Third: The big issue that I've seen and can understand the most is, why didn't the world government send everything they have at Luffy as soon as they knew he had the Gum-Gum fruit? Well this is a bit of head canon and we'll just have to wait and see if Oda explains it himself but . . .
- they don't know about him at all or that he has the fruit for the majority of his life
- Only the Gorosei seem to know the true nature of the fruit and keep it under wraps, so normal navy officers wouldn't necessarily think to push a big report that makes it all the way to the Gorosei immediatly
- even when they did find out, there's also the fact that it hasn't been an issue for 800 years, so they probably wouldn't immediatly think it would awaken from some random kid from the weakest sea, and don't want to immediatly draw huge attention on him for the fruit (thus making it very desirable to other forces)
- they aren't omniscient and don't know Luffy's location at any given point in time, he shows up somewhere and is usually gone or escapes capture by the time the closest navy force does show up to bring him down (or has outside help like Dragon in Lougetown/Kuma in Sabaody/ Tons of people at Marineford/Fujitora following his own justice and letting him go etc.) . . . remember as long as it takes in real time any given arc isn't really all that long in universe
- As far as we know, the Gorosei are still human and prone to human error - they themselves are gonna be kicking themselves for NOT acting sooner when they find out their worst fear has been realized . . . but as the old saying goes "hindsight is 20/20"
If you made it this far you're a real one - thank you for reading my attempt at a logical defense of a silly story that was never meant to be taken super seriously >:)
thanks
tl;dr
it's his opinion
Luffy being a Zoan also gives the whole endgame against Blackbeard another meaning. Right now we're all assuming, Blackbeard was aiming for a logia, a paramecia and a zoan-fruit. So what if the zoan he was aiming for has been Luffys Nika fruit right from the start? What do you think?
Excellent point. (Although i cant see anything we’ve seen Blackbeards fruits do, having any real effect on this new Luffy)
I think he might end up showing up at wano and taking kaidos fruit after the raid
explains why Burgees went after Luffy in Dressrosa.
I think Kaido surrendering is a very real possibility.
Hey, what happened to the oda box saying Kaido won the fight?
That announcer / narrator box text is supposed to be absolute!
@@samnaamee6405 He did win the fight. Luffy even said so this chapter. Now they're having a new fight. Duh.

This makes a lot of sense in combination with the octopus theory
It's so great that this revelation doesnt diminish any of luffys accomplishments. Yes this is a mythical Zoan but it's his imagination that has truly brought out it's real strength. In the hand of someone like idk smoker this fruit probably wouldnt have met any of its potential.
Super agreed
Imagine this in the hands of Miss Valentine
It diminishes every single thing. Oda is basically saying, luffy was meant to be special all along, he just didn't know it! Plot convenience and plot armour at its finest
@@Killerqueen2000 remember how luffy was known as the fifth emperor without even knowing about his fruits actual power? Enies lobby? Sky piea? Dressrosa? Plot armour? @Creepy Girl
It's actually plot armor because Luffys the main character.

Ruffy?
@@crazyfriend50 yeah, i mean, he is not Brazilian, It was just a gag oda made some time ago about the characters nacionality if they were real.
Well all his past gears are just parts of gear 5... Gear 5 is basically all his gears combined plus additional
At this point I just wonder what Luffy CAN'T do. If Luffy is only limited by his imagination now, it kind of undercuts the tension in the series.
4:03 i love it
The update on the fruit is bittersweet for me.
When this chapter dropped I literally didn’t sleep for 2 days because I kept re reading it and couldn’t sleep after seeing the last panel again. Can’t wait to see what Oda does with this new power.
I can see by ur pfp
So.. my thoughts are that Red-Hair was warning the Gorosei about Luffy when he visited them.

Its still a bit of a retcon though... Now Oda can rewrite any fruit and just say, "Oh, actually this fruit is a god too" 🤷🏻♂️
@@MisaelMatute76 Yea I see your point but I think we gotta give Oda the benefit of the doubt. It’s still too early to tell what was planned from early on and what was retconned (I’m not silly enough to think nothing was retconned).

That is one thing I really love with Oda's way of writing is the creativity. One piece do have a lot of tropes that's also seen in other series but even with that it's unique and goofy. Unique characters and powers yet so cool. This power up is unexpected too in a way. It's something non-one piece fans don't get
Luffy's cartoon form matches so well with One Piece itself
