Have to admit that the food looks really good! I’d totally have lunch in places like that if visiting Russia one day! I’m Swedish so Russia isn’t far away geographically. A fair few of Russian dishes look very good, and the few I have tried are amazing! I even made beef stroganoff at home once last year and it was amazing (need to make it again) and with me loving beetroot, I really need to make borscht at home sometime. Some Russian dishes are very common here as well, like cabbage rolls. I’m also a huge fan of semolina (hmm might actually have to go out to the kitchen and make semolina porridge for lunch today)
I travel to Latvia most years and all cities and most towns have cafes like this. You have to try Solyanka soup with some lemon slices in it. It is so good and every place makes it slightly differentl. The Baltic states are known for delicious cold beet soup that's bright magenta in color. The cafe in Stockmann, Riga makes a very good version.

I'm actually very thrilled that they will lose Ukraine and that this territory will not serve as an American missile base against Russia. Because that is not in my nor in your interest.

In the states we would call this a "cafeteria" and the style of food "comfort." When I was a student, it was one my favorite places to dine. The dishes were authentic. My favorite chains were Morrison's and Piccadilly. Today only Piccadilly survives, having bought out Morrison's. Piccadilly originated in Baton Rouge LA where I went to college. It still survives there with half a dozen locations.

It's uh cafeteria. These used to be all over the US. They served hot and cold dishes and you paid by the weight or by the item. I love these they serve home style foods.
Spasiba for the wintertime tour (down south) of the Sochi cafeteria and review of the "home cooking" offerings. In Finland (w smaller pop.) only university student unions have such spacious cafeterias. Otherwise the closest equivalents would be the new so-called food courts offering a variety of national and international dishes. Incidentally, cabbage rolls (kaalikääryleet = golubtsi) are considered Finnish national cuisine. Chocolate cake, chicken Kiev and borscht are also popular. During the dark and cold winters hearty soups like (beetroot) borsht and selyanka are great pick-me-ups! The same goes for coffee up here in the Far North. Ваше здоровье!

The selection of food looks amazing, I'm up for trying any of it.
That food looked so damned good! Brings back a few memories of my stint in Russia (Moscow & St Petersburg) now some 20 years ago. Oh, and the constant challenges of the Russian language and the cyrillic alphabet!!!
It has changed a lot, much more people speak English and are much more open to foreigners compared to how it used to be 20 years ago.

Your explanation makes my mouth water. I am veg but what is the dish you recommend?
Visiting Russia might be difficult considering the war in Ukraine. Russia is turning into a hermit state.

It looks good. I hope to visit your country one day and sample your foods firsthand. But first we need to find a way through some difficult issues. I see no insurmountable differences between ordinary people in my country and yours.
ordinary people hire their governments to absorb the wealth out of other countries its the governments that would make peace the people are mendacious and bourgeoise and demand - jobs- ie code for easy jobs that pay because of military economic superiority otherwise their 300 million peopler not being controlled by an army of 300k shooting soldiers while they stand around and get all the money. communism controls by law oil by manufacturing and technology from a hidden moon base and a robot army
I don't have issues, neither with the Russian state, the Russian government nor with the Russian people, including all other nations there.
I'm American and ethnically German, and I consider Russia a friendly country. I don't give a shit what a bunch of billionaires and globalist swine want. I'm actually very thrilled that they will lose Ukraine and that this territory will not serve as an American missile base against Russia. Because that is not in my nor in your interest.
The difference is you, like ravenous dogs, openly encourage the encirclement of Mother Russia whereas we couldn't care less about your neighbourhood. I would recommend pressuring your 'democratic' government into staying out of Eastern Europe.

Ok, let me start first that I really enjoyed the video and I have been seeing more and more Russian videos recently. But I was born early 50s and I opinions of Russian were formed in the cold war and in the books/novels that came out of that era. So I wasn't expecting what I am seeing. I have never seen anything from or about Russia as it is today only what it was like in the 80s. Please forgive but I wasn't expecting such a canteen or videos of supermarkets in Russia that I have seen recently. I am just glad it isn't like what I read about in the bad old days.

Very interesting. We used to have such places in my part of the USA but COVID lockdowns put them out of business. I hope somebody tries it again soon. Your food looks decent.

In the states we would call this a "cafeteria" and the style of food "comfort." When I was a student, it was one my favorite places to dine. The dishes were authentic.
