Ebert: "It isn't what the movie is about but how it's about it."
Also Ebert: "Chaplin should have been about something else."
This is why I preferred Siskel, even though my thumb disagreed with him more often, and even though he was less entertaining in his delivery. Listening to Siskel, I usually felt like I had a better idea of what the movie was and whether I'd like it. That's the sign of a great critic.
I tended to agree far more with Ebert than I did with Siskel. But it seems they tended to agree with each other more than they disagreed so this often didn't come into play.
On _Chaplin_ though, I agree with Siskel. I understand Ebert's points but _Chaplin_ was still a great film.
Trespass is another hidden gem of a great decade in film.

Trespass is such an awesome crime thriller. My favorite Walter Hill film.

Lorenzo's Oil is the amazing story of two typical Italians
Man I love and miss these two. I remember watching the when I was a kid. Of course I didn’t understand what they were ever talking about but I always thought they were entertaining then. They still are and man they have some hysterical jokes and insults of the films, but also their fights as well.
These major studio pictures probably wouldn't be made today. No sequels, prequels, remakes, etc. Adult, serious cinema. Miss it.
Chaplin is an excellent movie, Ebert is way off base here. It gives a good overview of Chaplin’s career, his life and the political situation which put him in to exile. Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant and this is a highly entertaining movie. If you’re not a Chaplin buff, this is a good place to start.
Lorenzo's Oil was a very difficult movie to watch. It's probably one of my favorites of all time but the scenes of human suffering have been unequaled in any other film.
I liked the original The Mind's Eye videos more than Beyond. But it was a showcase for what was to come.
I saw Lorenzo's Oil in my Senior Year of high school.

Wow I totally disagree with them on Trespass. I didn’t think the “gang-characters” were stock characters at all, they were fleshed out character with lives of their own, as much as the fire men. Also, the video camera technique worked incredibly well to take the audience into the world of King James and Savon, I don’t know how Siskel missed that.

I haven't seen the full movie, but from what I have seen, Jack Nicholson looks like a great Hoffa
He was great. The film so so.
I remember seeing "Hoffa" on opening night (Christmas I think) and being disappointed .....
Jack's performance was great. The story could have been written better.
Trespass was decent.
I liked Siskel but he couldn't be more wrong on Nick Notle's performance. I'm confident he would have changed his mind over time - maybe he even did.
If siskel didn't like it, it's probably a good film.
