Gene missed the mark with The Crow 🙄

Siskel is trying to rewrite another movie.

I just watched The Crow for the very first time, and I while I enjoyed it, I can see where Gene is coming from. I thought the story and characters were a bit too simplistic

Dana Carvey was also in Alan Parker's The Road to Wellville. The same year he did Clean Slate. Sadly he passed away last year. R.I.P Brandon Lee, Siskel, Ebert and Alan Parker.

Uh... I know this is 3 years too late, but it wasn't Dana that died, it was his son, Dex.

The Crow is an underrated classic of the superhero genre. Can't hate a movie because its not as good as Batman 89 or Blade Runner. Few genre films are.

I love the movie The Crow not only did it showcase Brandon Lee's talent but it was artfully done and I loved the love story/revenge story. A man coming back from the grave to avenge he and his girlfriends deaths.

    My take on these films:
Crooklyn (Thumbs Down) - I didn't like any of these characters and hearing them yell at each other for two hours was just a miserable experience for me. The anamorphic experiment fail was the least of my problems with the film.
Clean Slate (Thumbs Down) - I like Dana Carvey's performance, and the idea of the film is an interesting one, also I absolutely love Valeria Golino in everything she does. But, the only thing in the film that made me laugh was the one eyed dog.
The Crow (Thumbs Up) - Alex Proyas delivered a visually memorable film and I think the characters are well drawn and portrayed by its cast. Wincott always shines in a villain role, Brandon Lee could have been a huge star had he lived, and Ernie Hudson just adds something to every film he appears in. It's a good one.
Additional Note: It's not hard to see why The Secret Garden failed at the box office. It's the kind of story that works great on Masterpiece Theatre, but doesn't hold much relevance to 90s kids. Sometimes, Siskel and Ebert seemed to be so out of sync with what kids liked.

So Clean Slate is 1994's "Memento" 🤯
    Same premise, very different results.
Clean Slate is not as bad as Siskel suggests. Far from excellence, but it's good enough for a lazy afternoon.

The best thing about the Crow was it was the inspiration for the Sting dark character he still uses today

I like parts of crooklyn but overall i dont think its that good. Im so happy i found out why the camera / film looks so different when the younger daughter goes to the suburbs. I always thought they made a mistake while shooting the film.

The one time I agree with Gene and not Ebert. The Crow has to be THE most Overrated Movie ever. Why people rave about this... I will never know. Its like Ok at best

When I see these old clips, I realize Gene Siskel was really awful at predicting what will be considered a classic down the road.
