Hey now! No "tender age of 64" (not long until 65) Us oldies were there. We lived through some sh*t, we saw some sh*t....and of course still are. Not to mention the music we were there 1st hand for. Those horses looked as cold as I do right now. It's Brrrrrr here. Winter has really arrived! Great song! U2 hasn't always been on my radar but some of their songs are really epic!
U2s timeless classic which will surely be on everyone's play list on New Years Day for Years to come! Thank you Hap, for your awesome analogy of this creative masterpiece!!💜 🎶
How ironic, I was just watching Bono get the Presedential Medal of Freedom, here in the US!! I absolutely LOVE this song. ( but there isn't much by U2 that I don't love) Great band recorded and live. Great advocates of humanitarian efforts. Most songs have a message. Hap, I so appreciate your perceptions and gives me a new way to interpret or parse the lyrics. Absolutely 💯. 🎶💥🎧🎸
"Nothing changes on New Year's Day." I've heard this song for years and just caught that line. Hm. I love that. And so true. Thanks for the reaction. Epic song. Sunday Bloody Sunday is even better.❤❤❤❤
I was an Ozzy heavy metal fan when U2 aired on MTV for the first time! I was jamming with friends and when this song came on I said to them that U2 would be the biggest band in the whole world of all time at some point and I think in many respects I was right! This song and "Gloria" live from Red Rocks got them started in the USA and I saw them twice, rode on the Zoo TV tour bus, went to Ireland just to listen to their albums where the music in their hearts started. Phenomenal!! Absolute 🔥🔥🔥
First off, like "describe the vibe" rather than "comment." OK, on to the song, love this song, have never seen the video. Enjoyed your analysis, I don't think I ever would have gotten all that without it. U2, imo, will always be legendary in their own right. Thanks Hap ❤ Very much enjoyed. ✌️ ☮️ 🥷 🎶
I love this song and agree with you, HAP. Not what you would expect from the song title, but with deeper meaning. Bono actually considered the song a love song. While it is about the struggle of love, U2 were also inspired by the Polish solidarity movement and it was first released in January 1983. After recording, Poland coincidentally announced on New Year's Day 1983 that it would abolish martial law. I think U2 has incredible songwriting talent, as they are able to integrate and connect personal situations with what is happening in the world around them. Musically, yes, what can I say. You've already captured everything perfectly. Thank you for this great reaction🤩🙋🏻♀.
Like someone said, there is always a deeper meaning with U2 songs. Bono is such a good songwriter, sonically as well as lyrically, and has been since the 80s where this is from. There is a video that shows them playing and Edge holds his guitar and plays the piano with his pic in between his fingers, and switches back and forth between the two throughout the song! They are more than their big hits, much more and more than just an arena rock band. You should react to something from the ZooTV tour if you want your mind blown in every way. Maybe Mysterious Ways or Love is Blindness :)
@@VUM.M Thanks! It seems as though Hap gets them in a way it usually takes knowing more than a couple songs to do, and I love that! His mention of Easter eggs in songs and so forth - he needs to listen to some of their deep cuts and even not so deep cuts. The lyrics to some of their songs are about so many things all at once. Like The Fly for example... the clever way he writes things, it often takes a little thought to realize 'oh, he's talking about [that?!]'.
Although the title seems appropriate for this festive time of the year...this song is actually not lighthearted and corny, it's much deeper. But that's U2, they give more under the surface and never use superficial lyrics. Loved hearing this again after a longer time so thank you for the reaction! And..they are so young in this video! 🙂
Excellent analysis! I think you definitely understand u2s 'secret sauce'. I liken their strategy to a Trojan horse, albeit a positive one. Under the hooks and accessibility, often lie meaningful and sometimes dark communication.
This song/video actually was first recorded/filmed in December 1982, and first released in January 1983. But only not long ago it was upgraded to HD quality 🤩🙋🏻♀️.

Bono is an amazing wordsmith and poet!

Imagine being 13 and hearing this for the first time. Blew me away back then, and I think it just blew you away 42 years later! Great reaction.

Bono goes beyond what most do with his lyrics as their songs are almost always about more than one thing!
U2 War is an epic album.
Awesome song, fantastic! And a very profound one!
Great reaction
