My favorite and the best concert performance I have heard of this song, the original and the video are still the best. One of the greatest and most legendary bands of all time. Never get tired of them.
Still never ceased to be amazed at how the Edge sings incredible background vocals, plays the piano & lead guitar all in this song. Dude is amazing. Have loved this song since I first heard it in 1983 at age 19...still loving it in 2020...
Wholeheartedly agree. The way The Edge switches back and forth between guitar and keyboard on this song is so cool. Bono having a harder time hitting those highs these days when he really needs to wail.
Still brings back memories of a night in 1993 in a fully packed rock cafe where there was no room for anyone sitting down, dancing to this song for the 3rd time that night at 0400am.... College years, but also that moment.... wonderful...
Quite simply, one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed. Everything is right. The rythm section, the innovative guitar sounds, the simple melodies of the keys, and the crying of the vocal pattern in tandem with some of the most existentially inquiring lyrics about society ever penned.
I continue to be astounded by the remarkable talents of The Edge, who effortlessly provides incredible background vocals, skillfully plays the piano, and masterfully handles the lead guitar, all within this captivating song. His abilities are truly extraordinary, and his versatility as a musician is truly awe-inspiring. Since the moment I first encountered this song in 1983, when I was a mere 19 years old, my admiration for it has remained steadfast and unwavering. Even now, in 2023, my love for this timeless masterpiece continues to flourish. The Edge's artistic prowess is nothing short of astounding, and his contribution to this composition is a testament to his enduring brilliance.
I grew up listening to U2. They're fantastic! They have a lot of hits. They've been around a long time 😊🎉. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉makes my heart ❤ feel better when I hear their music 🎶 🎵. It will always live on. ❤
This is my all time favorite song. I got chills the first time I heard it and still do now. I love the whole version of this song. Edge played the guitar perfectly.
They still sound great! I saw them during the first Joshua Tree Tour at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in September 1987. There were 100,000 fans in the stadium on that night. It was hands down the best concert that I have ever been to in my life.
I was there. The crowd was singing "How Long" into the parking lots... I saw them in D.C. the week before and at the Meadowlands the week after. 14 times overall.
I saw them that year in NY, also the best show I’ve ever seen. Nothing has surpassed it. Saw them in Philly on the Zoo TV tour a few years later and even that couldn’t top it.
Will always be one of their greatest songs. I remember how it was back then when the first 2 albums came out. I was very fortunate to spend some time with them after they came with their minders to a small bar my friend owned and we were just closing. We just closed the doors and blinds and let them play pool and play music and i was DJ for most of the time until The Edge wanted to play some CDs. Still feels surreal now. Love this song always.
Masterpiece........ this is one of the fewest best songs of my lifetime... that’s why U2 hit gold, ‘cos released a song as “New Years day” one day in 1983
I love the bittersweeet sentiment of this song, especially the line 'nothing changes on new years day', Live Forever by Oasis and Bittersweeet Symphony by the verve also carry the same sentiment,,,,you and i are gonna live forever...when no one actually does,,,,Plus 'you're a slave to money then you die.....'',,, a trio of bittersweetness...
Me enamoré de esta canción, desde que la escuché por primera vez , un poco tarde , en el 94.. Memorias grabadas en el alma ❤❤❤❤❤❤y el corazón 😘. Los amo U2!!!!!
I was there too! And I can't believe I got to see it. Almost didn't make it in, due to all the security they had, because of what had happened in Manchester.
Yeah All is quiet on New Year's Day A world in white gets underway I want to be with you Be with you night and day Nothing changes on New Year's Day On New Year's Day I will be with you again I will be with you again Under a blood red sky A crowd has gathered in black and white Arms entwined, the chosen few The newspapers says, says Say it's true, it's true And we can break through Though torn in two We can be one I, I will begin again I, I will begin again Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh I will be with you again I will be with you again I will be with you again I will be with you again I will be with you again
So impressed that the girl at the right in front of Bono gets it. This song meant so much to me back in the day when MTV was just starting! After all these years it just shows how timeless this song is when a young girl sings along word for word to this masterpiece!!
I love the fact that after YEARS of playing this live, they've finally started playing the song in its entirety!!! Not just playing a shortened third chorus....
LOL Bono looks more like the South Park version every time I see him.Their music is so simple but no one can match their sonic appeal. U2 shows are always a blast and this song is still my favorite.
@@dragmio I could teach you Adam's bassline in 15 minutes . I love how he prances around playing it like he's a bass badass LOL. They wrote it though, and the crowd is loving it.
Primeira vez que vi eles tocando essa canção num tom mais baixo da versão original, ficou legal!! Não perdeu a pegada e também foi todas as linhas cantada no Álbum!! Muito bom
Wow... it´s a long time ago that I saw a video or fotos or something... And now I´m a little shocked, how old they look... mmmh... how old they ARE!! You have to know: Before this here, I watched them with "sunday bloody sunday", live 1983... That was the first song I ever heard of U2 - in that version...
Adam is the coolest of the four, although I love this band. But Adam actually enjoys being in the band AND listening to the band. He's a performer and a fan! He's always the most daring in his dress and he's the most laid back of the four. Larry and Edge are so serious and Bono is, well Bono. But Adam could be on stage or in the audience with everyone and be just as happy. (Just keep those checks coming!) U2 has been my fav band since I first watched them on a small black and white television in the late '70s. Bullet the Blue Sky is one of my all-time fav songs although I love every single one of them. This band just rocks! (Sade is my all-time fav female singer and band.) Two fav quotes. "Death is a career change." Bono. (Close enough) and "It's a car that makes any driver look pathetic." Paul McGuinness talking of the cheap East German POS they hung above the stage in their act, the Tribant.
My favorite and the best concert performance I have heard of this song, the original and the video are still the best. One of the greatest and most legendary bands of all time. Never get tired of them.
I'm glad they finally decided to play the last verse of the song after all these years

Those were the good ol days for sure.
The Edge is what attracted me to U2 when I heard them the first time in early 80s. Unbelievable talent!
Adam Clayton has to be one of the best bass players around
The Edge is U2 and what made me want to learn guitar
Wholeheartedly agree. The way The Edge switches back and forth between guitar and keyboard on this song is so cool. Bono having a harder time hitting those highs these days when he really needs to wail.
This is maybe the song, which founded the world fame of this band. Everlasting, timeless masterpeace.
That piano part is so simple but incredibly powerful and everlasting. Never ages.
You bet!
Yes your right. So nice to ears
Soul searching 👍
My favourite part of the whole song. Absolutely love it
@@patriciaque197 Onya Pat very true timeless 80s sounds.

U2 live is so close the studio recording..I appreciate that
Happy birthday, Adam! Love the bass part of this song! Perfectly executed!
Just turned 2021. Have played this every New Year's day for at least the last 22 years. Am desperately praying for a great 2021🙏♥️🎶
Maybe it's the music that has more shares at this day... From Portugal, to the World, Happy New Year

Yeah same!!
Same here! Older version is even better 🙂🙏🏼
Been doing the same for quite some time as well. I either play the original version or the USA/ Kevorkian remix every New Year’s Day!
For me it’s the first few notes of that guitar solo, sends chills, just imagine doing that in front of that crowd, amazing feeling!!
It's not very hard either, I bet you could learn it
@@YourLoyalDeserter Yeah, but The Edge came up with it.
That piano is just amazing chills down my spine everytime i hear it
Mir auch.
The Edge is amazing; switching between the piano and guitar, what a performance, especially at the end!
Incredible the sound of the bass!
Still epic in 2022. The piano...the guitar....the vocals. EPIC!

Same tour. The Omni in Atlanta.
I saw them in Chicago in 1987 at the Rosemont Horizon, it was the best concert for me also.
Nov. 1, 1987, the night the Dalton Brothers made a rare appearance and took up the slack for Los Lobos, in the Hoosier Dome!

The greatest song ever written and composed……A gift to all who hear and listen to the message of Edge U2.❤️
It's now 2022 and I am still coming back to this song!
“News Years Day” still ROCKING the house loud and clear with a talented guitar and piano player from The Edge of town !!!
New Years Day 2021.
Say it's true, it's true...
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one
2020 was one of the most bizarre years in modern history. Am praying we can get back on track and start heading forward 🙏✌️
Edge is EVERYTHING!
They are all extremely talented the whole band..I've seen them enough times in concert to say that..
The lady in the front row going note for note and enjoying that priceless moment... 🔥🔥🔥
How lucky were the people at this concert to witness such a fantastic performance....... Love the Bass, drums & the edge on keys
“ and oil is the reason for the wars we wage”

You are so right!best band that ever walked the face of the earth!I saw them in St Louis in 2017!still awesome!

Pure Brilliance by the Guvnors
Don't forget Iron Maiden
Your absolutely right. They became No. 1 way back in 1980-1981 when they became so famous from their War album they released 3 more albums.
Bono is 61 years old now and still going strong God bless him and the band.❤️

MY FAVORITE SONG EVER
Yeah

A world in white gets underway
I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes on New Year's Day
On New Year's Day
I will be with you again
I will be with you again
Under a blood red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspapers says, says
Say it's true, it's true
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one
I, I will begin again

Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh

Bono gets most of the love, but Edge has incredible musical talent.
They're all good lads😁👍
The Edge is a genius.
My favourite U2 member is Larry
The Edge makes U2.
In my opinion Edge is the soul of the U2, the primary source of their sound.
U2 always fills me with energy 👍💯
