If you go the first comments, people express their opinion with actual comments. With their points of views, what they liked and what they didn't, etc. Now you read the newest comments and it's all pretty much "This movie sucks. The prequels at least were different. Rey is a mary sue." I don't know what that kind of people are trying to accomplish besides feeling special. Anyways, it was fun to come back to this video.
Good times! I find this much more Star Wars-y too, I don't know what it is, this particular crew, the decor, maybe even the old Jedi Council logo, something feels more Star Wars energy about these older episodes.
+Angelo Thomas HUGE thumbs up and I haven't started watching this yet! Thank you for the Xmas present Collider Jedi Council - woo hoo! So ready to hear/watch this :)
Maz "I've seen your eyes. You already know the truth: Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But there's someone who still could..." Rey (with a single tear) "...Luke" Maz "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead. I'm no Jedi, but I know the force... etc." This moment in the film after the force flashback was enough to insinuate that Luke is Rey's daddy for me. Going into TFA I agreed with Campea thinking Rey was not Luke's daughter but after seeing it more than 5 times now, it's too obvious to deny Rey is Luke's daughter. Too many hints. Also Snoke is Plagueis, also close to confirmed
ListerStorm I I hear John Campea make that argument but I've seen that scene a bunch of times and it doesn't seem like Maz Kanata is distinguishing a difference between Rey's past (her family) and Rey's future (Luke), rather they are the same
Han never wanted to confront Kylo because he felt Ben was dead. That's why he didn't confront her outside Maz's. When he talks to Leia, she tells him they can get him back. Later Leia convinces Han to bring Ben home. When Han sees Kylo on the bridge, there is a moment of hesitancy but he gathers himself to finally confront his son on behalf of Leia and himself. That's why it's better for him to finally see his son at the end. That's the arc / development through the movie
Ken napzok.. awesome.. I think she was left there to mask her force powers from certain others. If you listen carefully during Reys flashback, you can also hear Luke´s cry from Empire strikes back. And about reys power.. the force is something that "grows" for a lack of a better Word, you dont get the force from Jedi or Sith, you´re born with it.. and Rey has heard the myth of Jedi and so on so obviously she has heard of the force mindtrick.. great show
When Kylo is talking to Vader's helmet and asks it to show him another sign it made me wonder if he had a force vision the first time he comes in contact with the mask similar to Rey's encounter with the lightsaber. Perhaps this gave him a glimpse of his grandfather's power and started him on his path to the dark side
+Justin Thomson or... its most likely that supreme leader Snoke in disguise. if what they said is right that Snoke is Darth Plaguise, i think its possible that he try to reach another jedi or force sensitive especially the one who close with Skywalker so he can hit him most... devide and conquer... and this style is common in any star wars story
The big twist in Episde VIII is that Rey will learn that it wasn't Ben/Kylo who killed the Jedi trainees, that instead it was her younger self - not maliciously using a lightsaber, but instead as the unintended consequence of her angrily destroying the environment around her with her mind. That's why Luke abandoned her and decided not to train any more children, a decision that frustrated Ben and pushed him toward Snoke with his promises of completing Ben's training.
+KingsJustice1 Yeah, but even Rey didn't know about her abilities until she used them against Kylo. He rightly expected her powers to have been mostly supressed by her memory wipe, and he didn't expect his demonstration to rekindle them. His recognizing her also explains his alarmed reaction the first time he heard a report of a girl being involved with helping the droid and defector escape Jakku.
+James Wilkinson The reason Luke decides to abandon her, is because he failed his nephew. Like Han said about his son..."he has too much Vader in him". Luke feared because of his lineage, that Rey (Luke's daughter) would have too much of the darkside in her as well. He left her in seclusion on Jakku after mind wiping her, so she can find her own life. A normal life, without the force....but in the end the force still called out to her.
Confession: I love the Rathtars - they're classic sci-fi cheesy monsters from the 60's and 70's, which are an influence on Star Wars with many other things. Overall: 8/10
Neeraj Radia Yea that's probably their main reason for having them but would have been great to see something from them in the movie..such a missed opportunity
+Christian Stoleski Plagueis did not cheat death. This is explicitly said in ROTS. "It's ironic isn't it? He could save others from dying, but not himself." He didn't just cheat death and get up and walk away.
I don't think he is Plagueis (nor do I actually want him to be) but has no one considered the possibility that he and Palpatine were working together the entire time until Palps death, but Plag was in the shadows. Maybe the story was just to tempt Anakin?
damn. what a panel! Schnepp was the man for sure. i did not stumble upon Collider until after last Jedi unfortunately. I cannot wait for Episode IX. think it is going to be sweet! I really cannot wait for this type of excitement to be around for the movies again! totally lost it with VIII. The way they described watching the beginning on pins and needles, many of us will prob experience that watching IX in two weeks! LOL
In regards to the soundtrack, I think that March of the Resistance, Jedi Steps, and Rey's Theme are easily on par with anything from the original trilogy and the prequel soundtracks
I agree. Rey's theme is my favorite. I absolutely love her character. Probably my new favorite character right now. The Jedi steps is my second favorite. I love how it builds up until we meet Luke on top of the island, then the old classic theme kicks in. Perfect ending in my opinion.
Couple of things. 1.) About the first order and resistance not being explained, that's fine. A new hope didn't explain how the empire was the empire, or how the rebels were the rebels. I'm sure in 1977 everyone must've had all kinds of questions about that. Sometimes it's better to just have the universe be what it is and have the audience discover new things with every movie. 2.) that scene on freighter was kinda bad, but it was necessary, because this was Han Solos last movie. we needed Han Solo to be doing Han Solo things. The next big scene he has is at the end with Kylo. We needed to have more of a set up for that character. Both for us and for Rey and Finn. And real quickly about Snoke being cgi, there was no they could've made a 25 foot puppet. Lol. And if they did do a hologram, they would still need to make it cgi.
I want Luke in episode 8 to say "Rey, I am your Father." as like a "trust me" kind of line. it would be a beautiful reflection of his own life and show what the force is leading them all to.
After Rey saves Finn from the Rathtar she just says "that was lucky." She never looks for credit because she has nothing to prove. There is no agenda going on, she is simply a character in this story.
+Randy Nguyen As someone who has a big problem with women over-exaggerating their importance to "balance" something (looking at YOU Sif!), I LOVED Rey. She's got Luke's humility as opposed to trying to prove something.
she is a feminist fantasy she is the embodiment of anything men can do. women can do better. not that I care but don't delude yourself there was most definitely an agenda. every movie has an agenda.
+Randy Nguyen Yeah. I love that. In a similar vein I love that Finn in his turn did not take credit for the rescue of Rey. If only Rey had Chewbacca, I'm sure Finn would have declared his undying love to Rey on the Falcon for saving his life at that moment. :)
+Neil Charran Finn didn't save Rey She saved herself Rey never needed rescuing....Finn did in fact only the male characters were ever rescued now that I think about it. Again just an observation the damsel in distress trope is over used and redundant. Rey was never made to look weak on-the-job entire movie..... Finn on the other hand.
+braam saget Absolutely agree. I used rescue instead of save to try and imply that Rey not only did not need saving but could handle herself. I couldn't think of a better word for the assist that Finn offered by single mindedly feeling the need to make sure Rey was okay and that she was more than grateful when Chewbacca told her that coming for her was his idea. And again to the point that both Finn and Rey were not looking for credit even though yes, Finn definitely needed saving. :)
Jon said it himself - they reveal Kylo is a Solo to the audience because all of the key characters were already aware of it. Given Luke's lineage, wouldn't he be massively incentivized to keep any of his own offspring tip top secret? Even from Han/Leia? He may have treated her as just another Jedi trainee in his new order but once Kylo went nuts, he had to protect her by sending her away. So my theory is - she is his daughter, and the only one who knows right now is Luke himself.
+Ben Chapman I can imagine that if he felt ashamed at breaking his jedi vows. Luke was trained by the great Yoda himself who was a model Jedi, how disappointed would Yoda be in Luke if he knew he made the same mistake as his father. Not to mention it was Anakin's love for Padme and his obsession over her that drove him over to the dark side how can Luke be that foolish to fall in the same trap as his father. Resurrection of the entire Jedi order fell on Luke's shoulders he was the last one left so shouldn't he live by example how can he teach young padwans the jedi way if he doesn't follow the code himself.
+Mirthula Govindaraj I could see a moment of weakness being acceptable when you are convinced you just snuffed out the last sith...He likely had no knowledge of Plagueis/Snoke who then came out of the woodwork to corrupt Ben Solo.
+Mirthula Govindaraj I don't remember celebacy being taught to Luke, at least not on screen. Also it is definitely not spelled out that Luke knew Anakin's fall in detail, so he likely has no idea how crucial Padme was to his downfall.
Ben Chapman I also see it as a moment of weakness I just can't imagine Luke having a wife and being happy about it. He has such a huge responsibility on him and to get distracted and indulge in his personal desires is not the hero we admire.
Ben Chapman Does everything have to be spelled out to the audience. 30 years has gone by we have to make certain allowances that the characters would have learned about the past and why do they need to tell us again what each of them know when we already know ourselves it all seems redundant story telling. We have to assume Luke has been debriefed on the Jedi Ways Jedi code is no secret.
+Omar Correa That was rather obvious. What I thought was more telling, was that Rey was peering into Kylo's mind at the same time...pointing out his fears concerning living up to Vader.
Yeah, also noticed that (hoped that they would talk about it) and I think that she is so strong within the force that she could be able to 'kind of track' luke
That Force vision Rei has when touching Luke's lightsaber is my favorite part of the film. I got chills hearing Yoda's dialogue and hearing Luke's "Noooooooooo!" from The Empire Strikes Back.
Gentlemen; As others have noted, Max Von Sydow's character, who's background in the visual dictionary having quite a bit of influence in the rebuilding of the Republic, was on the planet. So, in Rey's backstory, she was taken care of by a retired soldier who was very familiar with the Rebellion's leaders, the Skywalkers
+Gabriel Nicholas Yeah definitely! JJ did a great job reintroducing the universe, introducing the new characters and setting them up to start a new grand adventure!
I was immediately anticipating episode 8 as soon as I left the theater. So I'd say mission accomplished JJ ! Great thing about rogue one is that ep8 is only 6 months later :))))
Rey is Lukes daughter. Hints: 1. The lightsaber 2. Kylo Ren knows who she is. He spared her during the slaughter of the Jedi and gave her to Unkarr Plutt. That's why Luke is devastated. He thinks his daughter is lost. That is the flashback. So both Leia's kid as his own are gone. 3. Kylo Ren gets very angry when The First Order officer tells that there is also a girl. The girl becomes Kylo's priority not BB8 anymore.
When Episode 8 comes out, and it is revealed Rey is Luke's daughter I want a supercut off every time Campea went about with his smug, knowitall attitude. It will be hysterical!
The contrarian job. But he doesn't sell it at all with line by line technical analysis of the film dialogue. There's no mathematic read-through formula to disproving Rey-to-Luke and Campea kinda painted himself in a corner by doing it.
Signs that point to Rey being Luke' daughter.1. Rey is shown to be 'gifted' at fixing things and piloting - very resemblant of a young Anakin2. the force seems exceptionally strong with her - examples shown throughout the movie3. Maz tells Rey "That lightsaber was Luke's, and his father's before him and now it calls to you!" - setting up a family lineage IMO4. The look in Luke's eyes when they meet - so powerful; so many possible feelings which I'll get into next. Now I'll be going a little off road with the rest of this but I base everything from what's in the movie.Max von Sydow character is watching over Rey; he says he knows Luke & Leia; been around a long time - twist of Kenobi & Luke's relationship. So there's how you can say Luke left his daughter with someone he explicitly trusts with the welfare of his child. The Great and Powerful Schnepp said several times in this vid that JJ takes moments from the original trilogy and twists it up a little. So why did he leave Rey...I think when Ben killed Luke's force trainees, he also killed Luke's wife (that is the tombstone you're looking at besides Luke at the end of the movie). That moment could be used as your WTF moment like 'I am your Father' did in ESB. And it could serve to enhance the storyline of why Luke went into hiding. He knows if he didn't, he could go all Darth since his nephew just killed his wife and pupils. Luke wipes Rey's memories and sends her to Jakku to further protect her from Kylo. Yes, I believe the force memory Rey has that shows Ben standing in the rain with dead people around is actually her memory suppressed by Luke. This could also tie in Kylo's references to 'That Girl" It felt like that he may know her; but it's been years ago and she's such a non-threat because she's just that little girl of Luke's.Definitely more movie scenes that I could pull in but I grow weary and need another viewing of the movie to rejuvenate myself.Well that's my rant on why I think Rey is Luke's kid. Lots of plot points that could be exploited in the next episode.
The part where you guys sing the song from Return of the Jedi Special Edition almost made me spit out my tea from laughter, first time I almost spit out a drink from laughing in a very long time. Thanks guys
Th "All Black" wardrobe of this Jedi Council was kind of gangsta. The whole unadulterated "spoiler" commentary may have something to do with it, but the chemistry was there. The aggressiveness of this episode, sans the "intellectualism" was intriguing. You can substitute nerdiness for aggressiveness here. Loved this episode guys.
Glad to see Ken Napzok on the Council and hope to see him back often. Would like to hear you guys theorize about spin off movie that haven't already been announced.
I would love to see a flashback of Snoke speaking to Vader when he's alone in that pod he sat in at times. Vader always wanted to overthrough the Emperor and Rule the Galaxy with Luke at his side.
Max von sydow being on the same planet that Rey is in makes me think that he was there protecting her just like obi wan was protecting luke on tatooine.
My personal speculation for the future is.... Rey is not a relation of an established character... I think they will go the Romeo & Juliet route having Rey and Ren form an unhealthy relationship together, probably starting with Ren becoming obsessed with Rey. This will result in a tug-of-war each trying to pull the other to the light or the dark respectively ending in tragedy of one or both dying or ending up on the darkside.... Just a theory.
these trilogies are about the Skywalkers and id like to keep it like that. i understand what ur saying but that theory is very unlikely and slightly disturbing to think about. i know it's just a random theory.
+KingKien95 Why? Anakin started good, turned bad then was redeemed with his dying breaths. Luke often dabbles using emotion and walks a very thing line but manages to keep himself balanced... Ren was probably a good kid (who knows) and was seduced to the darkside but struggles with it... my theory allows for him to be tempted back to the light.... but his past will catch up with him... this is where the tragedy comes in.... this story is about Ren and his struggles.
+Kate Davies (Fullwoolyjacket) Ren's struggle is over since he killed his farther and chose darkness, he's definitely going to die. this story follows Rey as Skywalker.
ok this thought just came to me after watching this episode: Max Von Sidows character is on Jakku watching over Rey from a distance like Obi Wan. The fact that he has the piece of the map to find Luke establishes his connection to Luke and links Luke to Rey whether daughter or former pupil as they both JUST HAPPEN to be on Jakku and only the piece of the map he had would reunite Rey and Luke. If this was apparent to everyone else already..sorry im slow apparently lol
Well I feel that she is Luke's daughter and as far as the vision she had when she touched the saber and Obi wan's involvement ! I feel that Obi wan has such close ties to the Skywalker family that and he has been in possession of the saber for so long that's why she heard his voice is heard in the visions he has trained Anaikin and Luke ! His spirit is attached to the saber and this lineage!
It didn't take BB-8 long to reach Rey from Lor San Tekka's village. What if Rey was left with Unkar Plutt while Tekka watched from afar (like Old Ben watched Uncle Owen and Aunt B.)?
+LeeMarcelle that's exactly what I thought too I bet you Kylo Ren left her there with Plutt because he couldn't bring himself to kill her when he betrayed Luke and then years later Luke found out but he didn't want to put her in harm's way so he send Tekka to watch over her and possibly one day give HER the map to find him when she's ready
Also, Po isn't the Han of the new series. If anything, he's the new Wedge Antilles. I know Wedge didn't get a lot of dialogue in the originals, but he was there from IV all the way to the end of VI. He was the best X Wing pilot besides Luke and Biggs ( who darth killed in IV ) and also was instrumental in assisting the millennium falcon destroy the second Death Star.
I have a theory. I don't think Luke is in exile because he failed to prevent Ben Solo turning to the Dark Side. Surely he would have tried to redeem him as he did his own father, and seeing as a wounded Kylo was bested by the novice Rey, I'm sure Luke could defeat him easily. Perhaps Luke had a wife and a daughter (Rey) and when Ben and the Knights of Ren destroyed Luke's New Jedi Order, Ben killed his wife. Then he exiled himself so as to not seek revenge and be tempted by the Dark Side and he hid Rey to protect her. That would also explain why R2-D2 reactivated only once Rey arrives, Luke programmed him to reveal his location should his daughter return.
+connorisnotbright It's an interesting idea, but wouldn't Luke leave Rey with friends if he was her daughter? I don't see Luke being the one who left her. Also I suspect Kylo would have been far more formidable if he hadn't been badly wounded by Chewbacca.
Okay, I've now seen it three times and I'm pretty sure Rey's Luke's kid. There are a LOT of moments when they obviously hint at it. 1. Kylo Ren asking for "that girl" and choking that dude tells us she's someone relatievly familiar. 2. When Han asks her name, his face tells us he somewhat recognizes her but he didn't know her name. 3. The freakin lightsaber calling her, and the hole maz kanata speach. 4. Maz aking Han about the girl, and they just cut the scene! 5. Leia seems to recognize her also. 6. She lets her go by herself to find Luke. Please, feel free to tell me what you think about it. :)
+Tokoya What I would like to see (haven't seen this video yet but I know Campea doesn't believe its Lukes daughter) what I would like to see is that Kylo Ren turned dark, killed some students, Luke Intervened, some survived, and Luke sent them on different planets wiping their memory. These could be the remnants of the New Jedi, Rey could have been one of his more powerful students in the force at a young age, and Luke planted all the crumbs along the way that only a force sensitive person strong enough in the Light Side would hear the calling and follow them to him. At which point, it is also like a test so as not to repeat the same mistake he made, and seeing Rey, he feels not like his daughter is back to me, but that one of his students finally proved their worth. I would then like to see the fight in the last film to be between some other students that Kylo found and seduced to the dark side, creating the Knights of Ren or New Knights of Ren? and they face off against the New Jedi. Like, a handful against a handful. I am thinking that Rey seeing Kylo with those soldiers was a flash forward. That would be nice to see. That whole son and father and daughter thing is going to be too tiring at this point, and we have no indication so far that Luke was infatuated with some woman to make a child. It would be possible, perhaps another force sensitive person he fell in love with? And Rey being the offspring of TWO force sensitive people is what makes her so strong? Who knows. Its all possible at this point.
+DCF - HazardReborn That is indeed possible, but after everything we've seen/read and theorized so far, I'd be utterly shocked if she wasn't Luke's daughter
+DCF - HazardReborn I think your theory is pretty solid, and that image of the final battle is just AWESOME. Still think she's luke's kid though, other than that I'd love your version to be the real movie.
Yeah I think there are quite a lot of us that want Campea to be right. I mean for the most part I was really looking forward to Rey being Lukes daughter. But as soon as I saw the film, the way it all takes place, it will feel like a really uneeded plot twist later on. On the other hand revealing it now would have been too much for one film. Whichever way you go about it, now or later, the idea of children and what not has been will be too much to be HER story as well. It feels a little lazy at that point. I mean the old EU too, did Luke HAVE to have a child? Its just so cliche at a point and I don't know how much it fits characters and all. Only if Luke could do both, be training in the force and fall in love, which would mean for his spouse to be also force sensitive. Perhaps she was the one that got him to start all this new jedi training and all to begin with. Perhaps the first bad deed of Ben/Kylo was killing Lukes "wife" whatever she might have been. I'm just saying that Rey being his daughter is not a bad thing, but they need to tread really carefully about it and have some really awesome way to tie it in together. I will not be satisfied (neither most of us I think) with a simple "we knew but kept it from you kiddo" explanation for a reveal.
Luke didn't leave Rey on Jakku alone. What if Lor San Tekka was to watch over her Like Obi-won did for Luke?? He was on Jakku and was a friend of the Jedi and how he has a part of the map. Which Leia and Han knew he did and that is why they Sent Poe to him to get it. For when the time was right Lor San Tekka was to give it to Rey to find her father!
Another option could be that no one knew that Luke had a daughter. Rey's mother could have dropped her off on Jakku; maybe if that was the case, even Luke might not know he had a daughter. Just an off-the-cuff suggestion, but I love all the speculation!
Didn't comment until now, gotta agree with Harloff that the 'new cantina' is great. I mean c'mon, did you think there was only one place in the galaxy where aliens get together to trade and relax? No, I took from this as another pub feeling, relaxed with a pinch of mystery traders of questionable intent! 10/10, great omage and didn't take me out of the film.
Who does Campea think Han's death felt flat because we never saw him and Kylo talk in another scene first? Did he think the same about Obi-Wan and Vader in A New Hope? In my opinion Han Solo had the most emotional death of the entire series...
I don't know cause yeah we did'nt see them interact until that moment, but you also got the pain Han and leia were going through when they talk about him. You really feel that this is a broken family.
+BizarroPat345 Because there was supposed to only be one Star Wars movie, EP V and VI weren't in any plans when New Hope came out. Kylo is written and thought out with the knowledge he will be in at least Ep 8. We know the character, we just don't know his ending arch.
+BizarroPat345 yes that's why he's such an interesting character to me. This trilogy will be as much about building the villain as it is the hero. I know it will be very intense the next time Kylo and Rey meet.
How disappointed would everyone be if Snokes wasn't Plagueis? Darth Plagueis (the book) isn't part of Star Wars canon, but it is one of my favorite books of the EU. So I would LOVE to see him have a major role in the movies.
I am convinced that Ray is Luke's daughter. She is extremely connected to The Force, Annakin/Luke's saber calls to her and at the end of the movie when she arrives at the rebel base R2D2 immediately comes out of his sleep mode which leads me to believe he can sense that she is a part of Luke. After a 2nd viewing I liked the way Snoke looked, and I feel like he may work as a CGI character as long as he doesn't have any big fight scenes. Seeing as he seems to be pretty injured (Partially caved in skull) I feel like he will mostly be doing bidding from behind the scenes. My only complaint was the freighter scene, really. The "Wrathtars" or whatever just felt way out of place and too spazzy and erratic for things you usually see in the Star Wars universe.
I think max von sydow was looking over rey on jakku (like obi wan and luke) by request from luke. also explains why he would have a peice of the map to find luke.. when the time was right....
I think the island and ocean that Kylo Ren sees in Rey's mind, is the place that she ends up finding Luke in the end. Am I the only one who thinks that?
In Return of the Jedi, the quote of 'The Force is Strong in my Family' goes like this... "You're wrong, Leia. *You have that power too*. In time you'll learn to use it as I have. *The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it.* And... *my sister has it.* Yes. It's you, Leia." The lines that are bold are in the trailer. In the trailer, they are rearranged and cut together like this... "The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too." To me, it is no coincidence that they cut it together like that. It could be directed at Kylo-Ren or Rey.
Saw The Force Awakens for the second time today and enjoyed it more to be honest. The chemistry between Daisy and John on camera is superb .... I really hope they keep it up for ep 8 & 9 and not let the fame get to their heads!!
Man, I miss Schnepp! What a great, wholesome guy. Passion just pours out of this guy in such an immutably pure way. Earnestness resounds in everything he says, man!

This just came up on my feed and I got quite emotional, The Late Great Jon Schnepp!!!
He was a legend.
If you go the first comments, people express their opinion with actual comments. With their points of views, what they liked and what they didn't, etc.
Now you read the newest comments and it's all pretty much "This movie sucks. The prequels at least were different. Rey is a mary sue."
I don't know what that kind of people are trying to accomplish besides feeling special.
Anyways, it was fun to come back to this video.
Can people stop complaining about CGI like John campea and RIP schnepp miss you
Who’s here after Kristian’s announcement that he’s quitting? These were great days. All downhill for Collider after R1.
Good times!
I find this much more Star Wars-y too, I don't know what it is, this particular crew, the decor, maybe even the old Jedi Council logo, something feels more Star Wars energy about these older episodes.
Me
I miss this gang
Got so excited when I saw this pop up in my subscriptions.
+Angelo Thomas HUGE thumbs up and I haven't started watching this yet! Thank you for the Xmas present Collider Jedi Council - woo hoo! So ready to hear/watch this :)
Ken on Jedi Council. Best Christmas present.
Ken Napzok was a great guest. One of the best yet.
Maz "I've seen your eyes. You already know the truth: Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But there's someone who still could..."
Rey (with a single tear) "...Luke"
Maz "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead. I'm no Jedi, but I know the force... etc."
This moment in the film after the force flashback was enough to insinuate that Luke is Rey's daddy for me. Going into TFA I agreed with Campea thinking Rey was not Luke's daughter but after seeing it more than 5 times now, it's too obvious to deny Rey is Luke's daughter. Too many hints. Also Snoke is Plagueis, also close to confirmed
+Krisb BeatS or rather that luke was not her past but her future?
ListerStorm I I hear John Campea make that argument but I've seen that scene a bunch of times and it doesn't seem like Maz Kanata is distinguishing a difference between Rey's past (her family) and Rey's future (Luke), rather they are the same
Krisb BeatS Well, we can only speculate :p
and that's fun. I love not knowing what's going to happen. It's a triliogy we don't need everything explained to us in the first movie.
+Justin Thomson good theory
+Justin Thomson or... its most likely that supreme leader Snoke in disguise. if what they said is right that Snoke is Darth Plaguise, i think its possible that he try to reach another jedi or force sensitive especially the one who close with Skywalker so he can hit him most... devide and conquer... and this style is common in any star wars story
good theory mate!
+James Wilkinson woah...
+James Wilkinson thats a cool theory man!
+James Wilkinson But then Kylo Ren would know about her force abilities wouldn't he? Didn't seem like it until she used it against him.
Omg i miss Schnepp
Confession: I love the Rathtars - they're classic sci-fi cheesy monsters from the 60's and 70's, which are an influence on Star Wars with many other things.
Overall: 8/10
Luminious Beings NYC is say 9/10 but for hardcore geeks it's a 10/10
The Raid actors were fight scene co-ordinators according to the credits. They probably just gave them some screen time for a bit of fun.
+Neeraj Radia They were so brutally underused in the movie tho
+The Opinionator well yeah on screen... but we don't know how much influence they had off screen in the fight scenes etc.
Neeraj Radia Yea that's probably their main reason for having them but would have been great to see something from them in the movie..such a missed opportunity
+The Opinionator yeah agreed
The Snoke scene looks a lot like the Darth Plagueis novel cover in how large he is and the lighting.
+Christian Stoleski Plagueis did not cheat death. This is explicitly said in ROTS. "It's ironic isn't it? He could save others from dying, but not himself." He didn't just cheat death and get up and walk away.
+Legion1937 shit happens.
I don't think he is Plagueis (nor do I actually want him to be) but has no one considered the possibility that he and Palpatine were working together the entire time until Palps death, but Plag was in the shadows. Maybe the story was just to tempt Anakin?
Watching this, I remember how annoying Campea was and how glad I am that he's no longer on the Council. I miss Ellis though!
Gotta say, I think Ken Napzok makes a great addition to the Jedi Council. Hope we see him again in future episodes.
You all are fantastic! When I wanna listen to people talk and discuss Star Wars, I come here, every single time. Thanks.
The good ol days
damn. what a panel!
LOL
Episode 9 wasn't a good movie so I am sorry it did not live up to expectation but there is always the mandalorian
@@sarveshraajganeshraj4517 in your opinion.
Kristian seems happier here. He seems so worn down by the fandom these days.
Great panel and review!
I like their interpretations of Episodes 8 & 9 much more than what we ended up getting.
RIP Schnepp.
This breakdown is all that we wanted from you guys. Awesome insight.
In regards to the soundtrack, I think that March of the Resistance, Jedi Steps, and Rey's Theme are easily on par with anything from the original trilogy and the prequel soundtracks
Scherzo for the X-Wings and The Starkiller are also phenomenal
I agree. Rey's theme is my favorite. I absolutely love her character. Probably my new favorite character right now. The Jedi steps is my second favorite. I love how it builds up until we meet Luke on top of the island, then the old classic theme kicks in. Perfect ending in my opinion.
+Taylor Muse for me its the opposite 1 jedi steps 2 reys theme 3 march of the resistance
Yeah Rey's theme or the Jedi steps could flip flop between #1 or 2. I like them both a lot.
"jedi steps" gets me everytime
Napzok needs to be a regular
I want Luke in episode 8 to say "Rey, I am your Father." as like a "trust me" kind of line. it would be a beautiful reflection of his own life and show what the force is leading them all to.
Love it when the pit boss talks Star Wars! Please have him again soon!
Did anyone else notice when Kylo was reading Rey's mind that he said she dreams of oceans and an island? Like where Luke was?
+Omar Correa That was rather obvious. What I thought was more telling, was that Rey was peering into Kylo's mind at the same time...pointing out his fears concerning living up to Vader.
+Joshua Patrick it just seems odd that they mentioned a island. Not just oceans or beaches but also an island.
Love having Ken on the show!
Campea: "She's not Luke's daughter"
Is this the same Campea who was 98% sure Rey was Han's daughter? lol
+Ed Torres This is what Campea sounds like "There is shit coming out of my ass but I am not convinced I am taking a shit."
Hell yeah Ken Napzok! Anyone else really looking forward to Episode 8? I feel like TFA was just the stepping stones for something truly amazing.
+Gabriel Nicholas Yeah definitely! JJ did a great job reintroducing the universe, introducing the new characters and setting them up to start a new grand adventure!
+YankydoodleDandy at least we have rogue one between then and now
I was immediately anticipating episode 8 as soon as I left the theater. So I'd say mission accomplished JJ ! Great thing about rogue one is that ep8 is only 6 months later :))))
Thanks for the good year guys.
Rey is Lukes daughter. Hints:
1. The lightsaber
There's no mathematic read-through formula to disproving Rey-to-Luke and Campea kinda painted himself in a corner by doing it.
they clapped
they clapped because they arent the prequels
Great show guys! Keep it up. You guys will keep me entertained until rouge one and episode 8
Rogue* damn it I always spell that wrong
Miss this
Signs that point to Rey being Luke' daughter.1.
Damn this is almost as long as the movie!
+4Gaming Nah, the movie was 2 hours and 15 mins.
Joseph Daniel Are we really getting technical over something so petty?
+4Gaming Do you want to?..
Joseph Daniel FOH
?
Where's Ken been ? He's gone Luke Skywalker on us and came back with a grey beard
He has a Star Wars podcast called "ForceCenter" and is a producer at ScreenJunkies.
Am I the only one who thinks that "The Jedi Steps" theme is amazing??
The part where you guys sing the song from Return of the Jedi Special Edition almost made me spit out my tea from laughter, first time I almost spit out a drink from laughing in a very long time. Thanks guys
Th "All Black" wardrobe of this Jedi Council was kind of gangsta. The whole unadulterated "spoiler" commentary may have something to do with it, but the chemistry was there. The aggressiveness of this episode, sans the "intellectualism" was intriguing. You can substitute nerdiness for aggressiveness here. Loved this episode guys.
Am I the only one who thinks that "The Jedi Steps" theme is amazing
Snoke's Theme and Palpatine's Teachings are near identical :)
Ken is great have him on here more please
+KingKien95 Well it still would be a Skywalker story... Ren is a Skywalker
+Kate Davies (Fullwoolyjacket) there's gotta be a good Skywalker
And since Rey loves her staff, may we see our first light side user double bladed light saber? Similar to Darth Mauls.
ok this thought just came to me after watching this episode: Max Von Sidows character is on Jakku watching over Rey from a distance like Obi Wan.
Ken is awesome.. please have him on the council more often!
+LeeMarcelle that's exactly what I thought too
I bet you Kylo Ren left her there with Plutt because he couldn't bring himself to kill her when he betrayed Luke and then years later Luke found out but he didn't want to put her in harm's way so he send Tekka to watch over her and possibly one day give HER the map to find him when she's ready
Daisy Ridley would make an awesome Lara Croft in the tomb raider reboot
Omfg that's perfect
+DustingBread I try lol
+drizzydrew98 a young one? yeah; can see that. Good call.
hahah I was sitting here and thinkin the same thing! she has that look!!
Holy crap! U nailed it!
I can imagine Lor San Tekka and the "Church of the Force" popping up in Rebels from what I've read in the visual dictionary. It would fit perfectly.
Napzok is awesome! Keep him on the Council.
+Brandon Degner Agree 100000%! He's a perfect amalgamation of John and Kristian. Fanboy and critic at the same time.
Episode VIII will start with the camera following Han down that shaft to fight a balrog
5. Leia seems to
recognize her also.
6. She lets her go by herself to find Luke.
Please, feel free to tell me what you think about it. :)
Concerning BB-8, I thought they went full Wall-e with that thing... and It worked quite well.
The thumbs up scene was great. :)
I can't wait to see Campea eat his words when it's confirmed that Rey is Luke's daughter lol
+Tokoya
What I would like to see (haven't seen this video yet but I know Campea doesn't believe its Lukes daughter) what I would like to see is that Kylo Ren turned dark, killed some students, Luke Intervened, some survived, and Luke sent them on different planets wiping their memory.
Tokoya
Yeah it can really go that way indeed.
Shcnepp is the greatest of all time
Luke didn't leave Rey on Jakku alone.
Why*
I don't know cause yeah we did'nt see them interact until that moment, but you also got the pain Han and leia were going through when they talk about him. You really feel that this is a broken family.
Kylo Ren is my favorite new character.
Same. Can't wait to see his character progress in ep8 and ep9 cause to many people are judging him off one Episode.
+alan morton Well no shit he's being judged off one episode. it's a 2 and a half our movie lmao
Prince Zuko
I want to hear Adi's and Max's opinion on Rey and Finn.
Screen Junkies has a review up with Ken Napzok and Max Landis
+The One go watch Max's video
+Dustin Schmich then why is he giving it up to a rebellion fighter pilot instead of the person who is "intended" to get it.
I think the island and ocean that Kylo Ren sees in Rey's mind, is the place that she ends up finding Luke in the end. Am I the only one who thinks that?
+Rex Andresen nope, I noticed that too - I think that only strentghens my belief that she's his daughter
MsLm97 Yeah, there is clearly something there
Fact: this is a Skywalker story. Not a Ben Solo story. Rey is Luke's daughter. Period.
It's you, Leia."
The lines that are bold are in the trailer. In the trailer, they are rearranged and cut together like this...
"The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too."
To me, it is no coincidence that they cut it together like that.
