REWatching this in 2021… the new trilogy has been finished and out for over a year and a half… hearing these guys talk about this film brings me back. Collider had a good thing going back then. Reminds me of simpler times…
Mark Ellis calling the Palpatine connection at 32:15! The best part is how quickly it's passed over in the conversation, because nobody expected that theory to come to fruition. :(
I need to watch it again. I went out of the movie theater and I couldn't stop smiling. I wanted to go back and watch it again so badly. I love seeing big movies on opening weekend because when you have a good audience watching it with you, it pumps you up even more and makes the viewing experience so fun. The movie has to be good too of course, and THIS freaking broke through my expectations. I tried to stay neutral for so long, and for the longest time I had that tiny thought in the back of my head that it might turn out to be like the prequels. I'm so glad. I can't contain myself right now.
+Anime Fan I'm more hyped for the movie that comes after this one. Luke better train Rey and than he will teach her so many wise things like Yoda did and Snoke will hopefully be revealed some more because he was very vague in 7. The movie was great though, oh and #Fuckkylothetwatface
+Daan Barbian Who do you believe snoke to be?and,if he's plageis as people believe why didn't ren & hux address snoke as plageis?even sidious's true identity was known by his closest allys.
+m c New york Plagueis isn't the same as Sidious,Plagueis is a lot smarter and probably wants to keep his identity a secret until he knows he can trust someone enough to give his identity away.Perhaps when he completes Kylo Ren's training he'll tell him his history.(If he is Plagueis, which I think he is.)
I think she had parents and were ditched and raised as a Jedi by Luke...when Ben went dark and started killing Jedis Luke wiped her mind and ditched her
She was only 5. She wouldn't need a mind wipe. People remember very little before 5 years old. The problem with this theory, is they need to give a real good explanation for Luke abandoning a little girl with no one to look after her on a third world scavenger colony. I think Luke didn't have to do with her abandonment. Maybe he's the Dad, but if he is the dad, then I don't think he knows. Maybe it's a thing where her parents were planning to come right back but they were killed. Maybe they were force sensitive and Snoke hunted them down.
+rpandya97 I started off as a fan and won't stop. "AMC" movie talk and Cinemasins were the first two channels I ever subscribed to on youtube in 2013 -- fun fact I won a contest under my real identity back when it was AMC movie talk
+Benjamin Moore "when Ben Solo killed Han, Han should have said " I Love You" And Bens reply should have been " I Know "" yes and Ben should have said "I know" Just after the killing blow, it would have moved mountains.
one thing you guys missed is leia never meets rae until the end of the film and she hugs her as if she's family or she knows who she is? plus why is rae sent by herself to meet luke and why didn't leia go to meet her brother? doesn't make sense for rae not to be his daughter
+ENGLISH REACTIONS and being sooo powerful in the force it makes sense that she is a FULL Skywalker! in my mind Ben solo Is less of a true Skywalker than Rey! I don't think the force was as strong in Leia that Luke! so a direct Skywalker in the strong side just put it over for me that she is Rey Skywalker:)
01:48:13.00 DENIS: "Yes, but are we saying 100%, Han's dead?" Guys, even if he survived the lightsaber through the chest *and* the 1000 ft fall...THE F&%#ING PLANET BLEW UP, MAN!!!
+Jacob Heaps-Downing Yes at the very least we will get a flashback or force ghost. i think Luke will commune with him somehow. They were best friends and there was no closure for them.
Han knew something about Rey. Maz Kanata bluntly asks Han "So who is the girl?" and then the film cuts out of that conversation. Films do not do that without a purpose.
+Jordan Tyler eh, maybe. to me it was just one of the clever ways in which filmmakers let you know how a character learned about something that has transpired in the movie so far without having to listen to exposition. it doesnt necessarily mean anything
+Jordan Tyler So what did happen to Maz Kanata honestly? after the first order arrived she basically just dissipated. We dont see or hear from her again. She seemed to have a very important part on the movie. Especially if she had Anakins/Lukes lightsaber in her possession.
I was born in 1991, but didn't see A New Hope until around 2001 or so. Never saw Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi until recently. I've seen Episode I, II, and III when they came out, but never really showed interest in them as a kid. I liked The Force Awakens a lot more compared to the previous movies, maybe because it's more modern. I can definitely say that Episode VII has gotten me a bit more interested in the Star Wars universe, especially with the villain Kylo Ren being played extremely well by Adam Driver. Every line that he delivered I can feel the hated that's pouring out of this guy. I'm not completely geeking out over star wars like the hardcore fans but, now I'm a little more excited for future Star War movies!
If you played Knights of The Old Republic you are VERY familiar with the Jedi technique of selective memory wiping or re-assignment. The Jedi Council in KOTOR wiped the memory of Darth Revan to make him think he was just a regular Republic trooper so it is very possible that Luke did the same thing with Rey.
+thegame346 I think the same thing happened with Finn. Leading up to Jakku, Finn was the top cadet in his group & Captain Phasma said that he would become an officer with the First Order. Something broke in his conditioning. I'm going to do a video on this after I see it again tomorrow.
+Toney Mitchell because he was 'kidnapped' from his parents....which could imply he was a jedi padawan (like in yaivin 4 EU) and was kicked out when luke shut things down and ended up captured somewhere and trained to be a stormtrooper. Po is not that much older than them and could explain his ridiculous skills as a pilot if he was part of the class. also could mean there are more out there who also had memories wiped, and they re going to round them up for the next big fight. Chewbacca's son Lowbacca was a padawan along with 3 solo's and ben (lukes son) amongst others, so they might cherrypick some more characters from lukes old class at the temple in the EU and rediscover them to take on the future knight'S of ren.
i just saw the movie and the biggest WTF moment I had was when Ray and Princess Leia FINALLY met and they just stared and hugged eachother.......... how come no one else noticed that? isnt this the first time they've seen each other? how do they even know who each other are? everyone just didnt think about that. theres no way Ray could of known she was Princes Leia.. Leia might know she is Ray (or maybe even Lukes daughter)..
I think the idea was that they were sensitive to each other's sorrow. Everyone else was celebrating but they are both somber. Leah lost Han, and Rey witnessed Han's death and was worried about Finn. They may have also realized "this is the girl they talked about" and "this woman must be Ben's mother". But even if each one had no clue who the other was, they at least realized that they were both mourning. Girls are more sensitive to stuff like that... And these girls are also sensitive to the Force. So that's what was going on. ;-)
+WylunCustoms The hug could just be for Han's death, Rey brought Leia the bad news. Even if Leia knew about Rey the last time they met she was just a small child. Leia would sense the force was strong in her though during the hug IMHO
+Jack Conant LOL ya no shit! remember when Han got frozen.. they were hugging eachother like he was going to die... han actually dies and its like hey whats up Leia.. imma just walk right past you and celebrate with everyone else.. go cry w/ that girl over there who you "might not" know who it is.. and possibly the first time you ever met her. Han was just my best friend for dozens of years.. but no biggy
+Ch3 j0 some people can react in ways that can trick a Force user, even with blaster shots (AKA Jango Fett in the Clone Wars. Jango was known to be able to kill Jedi even with blaster pistols, simply because he could react in ways that weren't predictable to Force users. So Chewie probably going crazy over Han dying was too much for him to predict possibly, and Chewie was able to get through his defenses.)
Did anyone else notice that the part of Kylo Ren from the trailer walking in the woods wasn't in the movie? Also the hand off of the lightsabor from maz to the woman's hand.
+Hayden Burke Some of the shots I believe were made for the teaser, however I think some just didn't fit with the way the movie was edited. It's a fast movie and a lot of those shots really hang on the characters.
I was thinking this, I was looking for the the lightsaber in the woods, it seems weird that the lightsaber reveal had been produced for the trailer 1 year ago, but I guess we were introduced to the lightsaber earlier in the movie, so it may have lost its gravity
You guys keep picking on Kylo not instantly finding Han. Remember Return of the Jedi... Darth Vader couldn't find Luke when he was hiding in the shadows. The Force is not GPS. Kylo only knew that Han was close. Why else would he send Stormtroopers to look for him? If the Midichlorians were just playing a game of "Hot & Cold" in Kylo's head, then he would have said, "Follow me Stormtroopers. Han Solo is this way!"
+David Theriault Episode 7 went out of its way to show that Kylo is an unfinished product, so to speak. He isn't fully trained nor as powerful as he thinks he is. I love that, actually. He is going to be way more powerful in the films to come. Also, I would just like to point out that I also loved they didn't kill any of the villains.
+Vin Sessions Whole time I was watching Kylo I thought to myself "this dude is gonna get fucked up, he is gonna get a scar or something, c'mon give it to me give it to me" *SLASH!* "called it, now he is going to come back a total badass"
And even if kylo did no that Han was in the room, he was conflicted. He didn't know if he had the strength to kill his own father. So he pretended to not know Han was there hoping solo wouldn't reveal himself to him
+MagCynic Maybe she didn't want to. But It'll be amazing if in the next episodes there's a moment where she does some amazing Force shit out of nowhere and just YASS
I think next movie is return of the Jedi Order so she and others should be trained then. They kinda set up the need for the Jedi Order after the Republic attack.
I've seen TFA twice now and I love it. For me I think Rey is Luke's daughter. For 1. Anakin, Luke, Rey are all ace pilots, can fix anything, the lightsaber handed down the family line,
I think it's possible that Luke is her dad. But if he is her dad, then they'll have to set it up that he didn't know about her, because otherwise he looks like a total scumbag for just abandoning her completely alone in a barren wasteland.
Josh Pesek That's a stretch. Because Luke was well hidden all this time until Rey's adulthood. So she would've been just as safe with him. Or any random place with good guardians. Like I said... Whether it was for her safety, Luke can't easily be aware of it without looking neglectful.
These were the flaws I had with the film: 1. Rey's affinity and grasp of the force was too abrupt. She can just all of a sudden Jedi mind trick a Storm Trooper, resist Kylo and even overpower him. I wish they had alluded to her latent Force abilities a little more earlier throughout the film like when she was exchanging parts for example. I wish they would have shown Rey somehow persuade the alien to give her more rations. I thought that was a missed opportunity. 2. I thought they should have revealed Kylo's face for the first time when he was confronted by Han and not when he was interrogating Rey. I feel like it would have been more impactful if you saw his face for the first time during his emotional scene with Han. 3. Phasma was extremely underused. I thought she should have had a bigger role in the film. All she did was take down the shields and then sent to the trash compacter. (I don't think she's dead, so there's still a chance that we will see more of her in the next 2 films) 4. I don't think Han was mourned enough after his death. They could have at least held a funeral for him or something to honor him, but they just flew past it. 5. Luke was literally in the movie for less than 60 seconds. The guy didn't even have a single line. Now I know why they didn't show him in any of the trailers since he's barely in it. Still, despite these flaws I had a great time watching the movie. It's by no means flawless but it's really enjoyable. 8/10
Yeah that lightsaber battle was disappointing....I felt that fight took me out of the film....mainly because there is no way Rey should have been able to hold her own against a fully trained knight of Ren....she never wielded a light saber in her life and she just began to tap into her powers....there is no effing way she have bested Kylo. JJ dropped the ball on that one.
Nicklas Nielsen again...she is capable enough of fighting off regular people with a staff but a knight of ren? Come on....she just discovered her powers and now she can fight a warrior who has been training since he was a kid...it's bullshit my friend
Yeah I agree rey shouldn't of been able to beat kylo but remember what chewies bowcaster did to a stormtrooper? Sent them flying back 5 meters kylo got one of them In the stomach and still tried to fight ! Next movie will be him smashing the resistance pretty much a spin of empire first order strikes back haha
omg I agree....I felt that fight took me out of the film....mainly because there is no way Rey should have been able to hold her own against a fully trained knight of Ren....she never wielded a light saber in her life and she just began to tap into her powers....there is no effing way she have bested Kylo. JJ dropped the ball on that one.
+Milton W Yeah agreed that fight really took me out of the film too. But to me it's more of a story writing issue. I wish to see more of a progression from Rey rather than kicking massive ass in the very first film. It also makes Kylo seem like a weak villain. Wish they had gone into a draw instead of Rey beating him. Plus the way they executed it was kinda cheap - she felt the force and suddenly kicked his ass. Would've liked it a lot more if the writers came up with a more creative way for Rey to win. Tbh I find it to be quite unfortunate as I enjoyed the rest of this movie a lot. But this being the climax scene hurt the movie quite a bit for me.
Kylo had been shot by a Bowcaster shown to instantly kill anything it shoots, was fighting in an emotional state, and Rey had already been shown to be a good fighter. This fight was totally believable.
Ray is Lukes daughter, when she touched vader's old lightsaber it triggered that force vision, and when it got to the point were she was a kid and dropped off pay attention to the voice that belongs hand holding her by the arm, its the old man from the beginning the "to me she is royalty" he was obviously sent there to look after Ray. and who gave the map to Luke in the first point the old man.
+csquare111 it was a human hand that was holding on to her, the spare parts dealer was not human and his hand would take up alot more space in the shot as he was much bigger than a human
Carrie Fisher is a great actress. I think if she overreacted to Han's death it would have taken me out of the movie. She is a general and can't afford to break down in front of everyone. Leia has always been the emotionally grounded character. I think her reaction was perfect
Agreed. I think Leia was exactly as I would have expected her to be. War weary. Exhausted and maybe jaded. She's the only one of the three leads who is still fighting and she was the only one fighting at the beginning of the franchise. She's the responsible one. As a result, she lost her man (husband?) and child (to the dark side) and her brother took off and has hid for over 20-25 years. Her first scene with Han was filled with emotion though they said little. Her eyes said everything. That is ACTING. Not sure what they expected. Sassy one liners and a gold bikini?
+blackcobra1981 The Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Blues Brothers, plus some TV appearances but yes, she is, like Hamill and Ford, best known for Star Wars. She has also famously fixed a lot of scripts in Hollywood and has written at least three successful novels, along with a one-woman play. She's smart, funny and talented.
The problem with demanding me to bring up more examples is that you can get hired whether or not you are a capable actor. She could have easily been cast in another high profile film if she wanted to regardless of being a good actor or not. Bad actors get cast in roles all the time, it's not always a measure of how well you can act. I would say it was more of her personal choice to quit the acting scene. Mark Hamill is a great actor but is only known for his live action role of Skywalker. Ultimately whether or not you enjoyed her performance is up to you but in my opinion it's one of the reasons her character is so iconic. Especially after coming back to act after a lifetime of addiction which stifled her acting career to begin with and still be convincing.
+herbiepop What about "Dr. Kalonia" (Harriet Walter) tending to Chewie? Was there any srciptwriting reason to shove in a 20-second scene of a kind, early 50s woman connected in some way to the good-guys? Heck, IMDB shows her as fairly experienced actress.
Just real quick before the video starts, I absolutely adored this movie. It met and exceeded all my expectations. After seeing it twice, I'd give it a 9.5/10. My only issue was that Starkiller base was basically just another death-star, and that kinda bothered me. Beyond that, and the fact that it might parallel episode 4 a tad too much at times, it's perfect. The overall story and the exit of Han was handled brilliantly. The best part of the entire film was the new cast, I mean, my god! I looooove all these new characters so much and cannot wait to see more of them. I thought it was incredible how they didn't just show us everything and lay everything out on the table. Just like in the first one, if you're watching it for the first time you don't know everything right off the bat, it takes 2 other movies to make that story fully fleshed out. I love how they're clearly playing the long game and I cannot wait to see what Johnson has in store for episode 8. JJ knocked it out of the park
I also loved this movie and give it a 9/10. I'm ok with that it paralleled ep 4 at times but I think it's a good way to introduce a new generation of fans to Star Wars the same way we fell in love with the original all those years ago. The only problems I had was how easy it was for them to enter then breakout and reenter then breakout again so easily. I also didn't like how Phasma buckled so easily to deactivate the shield. All in all this movie was epic.
+sinister kiid i'd give it an 8. i know 8 sounds bad. but in a scale of 1-5 that's a solid 4/5. still awesometacular. million billion things wrong with this one, but the ones it gets right, outshines all the faults.
Just saw it. Love cinemas with only 25 people on a Wednesday afternoon. My parka had it's won seat. Away here are my ratings: Awakens 9.2, Empire 9.0, New Hope 8.7, Jedi 8.2. Sith 6.5, Phantom 6.2 (just because of Maul), Clones 5.8.
+Ahturo s (Ahturos) You're so lucky. I wish I saw it before some people started spoiling a certain scene in the movie, which I won't mention in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.
+Mr. GameCrazy Yeah I trully was lucky. I accidently saw some videos that I thought spoiled things for me but they were just fan theories and such so I had really no idea what anything was, I knew only about Han, Chewe, Leia, Rey and Finn and no one else so everything was a suprise. I did´t know what Snook was, I knew nothing about Phasma or even what weapon they were gonna use.
Schnepp on the redeeming of Kylo Ren: “He’ll do something like pick up the Emperor and throw him down a pit.” Fast forward to Episode 9. The Emperor picks up Kylo and throws him down a pit haha.
Just saw it. I'd never thought I see good acting and likable characters in a star wars movie ever again. And take notes Revenge of the Sith, THAT'S how you do a lightsaber battle.
I love the cameos. the stormtrooper that got mind tricked was Daniel Craig. lol. And the voice in Reys force vision that says "Rey" is Ewan McGregor. Which leads me to the theory I have that Rey might be related to Obi-wan.
+Noah Cocke Actually, though we are finding out that Ewan did come by to record a few seconds for that scene, did you know that it is actually Alec Guiness that said "Rey"? I was reading an interview with Abrams where he said a sound engineer found where Guiness said the word "afraid" and managed to get cut it to get the word "Rey" out of it. So both McGregor and Guiness can be heard in that Force vision.
i think thats hans death scene was incredible. you're right in that there should have been some previous interaction, perhaps in a flashback, but i think that the lighting (the blue and red split down the middle until the blue goes out and red takes over), the emotion portrayed by ford and driver, i just thought the scene was amazing.
han had a very interesting look on his face, like being reminded of someone who was no longer with them, when he heard Reys name. she is also just like hans (and a skywalker) but with force powers. i wonder if part of kylos fall had to do with love/jealousy over a little girl who was more powerful then him. he specifies 'girl?' more then once, it seems to bring up alarm in him. leia also seems to respond to her in recognition.
also.. when the blew up all the planets, EVERY TIME they charged their weapon, they drained a star. that means TWO solar systems were destroyed each time it was fired.
I'm a non Star Wars fan but like Denis I binge watched IV, V and VI on the day I saw VII and I freakin' LOVED VII!!! To me it was a 10/10!! Plus, has there ever been a geekier conversation than this? I LOVE IT!!
It's funny how much has changed since this review. Kristian no longer believes Rey is Luke's daughter, thankfully. If she's anyone special, she's a Kenobi. Can't wait to see Rogue One.
The one thing that really makes me think Snoke could be Plagueis is actually John Williams' approach to scoring his scenes. Listen to the track "Snoke" and then listen to Revenge of the Sith's "Palpatine's Teachings"... very evocative of the scene in which Palpatine discusses the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise.
That's exactly what I thought as well when I heard "Snoke" it immediately invoked that track from episode 3. John Williams wouldn't have given Snoke that musical cue for nothing. Me thinks Mr. Williams knows more about Snoke than all of us.
I always thought the chorus of low deep voices in that scene in Sith was actually meant to be part of that alien sperm water ballet thing they were watching and not part of the actual soundtrack
Alright here are my speculations/questions having seen the movie 2x now: 1. Rey is clearly VERY force sensitive. Growing up on Jakku did she know she was force sensitive? Clearly she thought Luke was a legend at first but Finn and then Han confirmed he was real. Then Maz tells Rey that whoever she's waiting for (her "family") is never coming back, but there's a chance that Luke will. Combine that with Luke/Anakin's lightsaber" calling to Rey because of the vision indicates a strong relationship to Luke; could be daughter or just very close to the family somehow. Kylo Ren, during his mind probe of Rey, reveals that she dreams/imagines an ocean with an island; that has to be the same place where she finds Luke. Why would she imagine that? Suppressed memory? A subliminal force vision? Is that Island the First Jedi temple that Luke was searching for? Now, Rey exhibits 2 force skills in the movie, mind trick and telekinesis. How did she know to do these things, because they are pretty specific force skills? Remember Han said that Luke tried to teach new Jedi but one of his pupils screwed it all up. It's not explicitly stated but the best candidate for the evil student has to be Kylo Ren. Could Rey then have been a very young pupil of Luke, sent away for her protection? 2. I believe that Snoke instructed Kylo Ren to kill his father to further his development as a dark side user. While on that bridge (fantastic scene, one of my favorites), Kylo only appeared to be conflicted when he asked Han for help; his intention was always to kill him. You think redeeming Vader was hard? Try redeeming Kylo Ren! 3. Crazy, wild theory: Cpt. Phasma will become an ally. I get a professional soldier vibe from her as opposed to a true First Order believer like Hux. Probably won't happen but I would love to see this. 4. Kylo Ren is the "master of the Knights of Ren.' It appears that Rey's lightsaber vision showed events of the past and the future. The Knights of Ren appear here; Kylo is shown killing someone and you see bodies everywhere. What if the Knights of Ren were originally Luke's students before they were corrupted?? Also, where are the Knights? Maybe there is a Knight assigned to each major Star Destroyer in the First Order fleet. Or, maybe it was actually a future vision of the Knights in action, they have yet to be formed under the tutelage of Snoke? 5. Rey's staff is just a staff.... So far. 6. The Republic and The Resistance. During the attack on Starkiller base, C3p0 said, and I'm paraphrasing, they're doomed without the Republic fleet. So The Resistance is not the Republic fleet? Is the Resistance some sort of expeditionary force sent to battle the First Order, separate from the Republic fleet itself? 7. Kylo Ren is firmly on the Dark side, but, as he says, the Light side calls to him. He then says to Vader mask "show me your vision, Grandfather" or something like that. Now we know Snoke corrupted him; perhaps Snoke recovered the Vader Mask and used that to help him corrupt Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. 8. Last thing, a very minor criticism: so R2D2 just happens to wake up after the Resistance victory to help complete the map to Luke? What was he on a timer? Did Luke send a message to wake R2D2? Very minor, I'll give it a pass.
"I feel it again, the call to the light. Supreme leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather... And I will finish what you started."
How would you feel if Han is the one who ignited the saber. In killing himself like that, he prevents the complete fall to the Darkside while also protecting him from Snoke's wrath for not killing Han. I really think Han pressed the button on the saber. #hanpressedfirst
fuckin a, this was the absolute best version of episode 7 we were ever going to get, especially after Disney bought the franchise. that alone put so much pressure on the success of this film that the fact we got something as good as we did is medal-worthy
What are you talking about John? Finn as a storm trooper had melee weapon training with those energy weapon things, and Rey already had melee skills with her staff.
BloodyFlowerFilms Or his knock out power he used on Rey or his torture powers... I'm not sure he's the first who can stop a blaster bolt. I think he learned it from Snoke.
His force knockout and force freezing Poe and Rey only to walk up to them and talk/judge the fuck out of them was absolutely incredible to see. The outdrawn sequence of him carrying Rey up to his ship instantly felt like a classic moment to me. Rey was in every way the damsel in distress, soon to be hidden away in a castle in the sky, but not long after that we found that there is more to her than meets the eye. The force was about to awaken.
When that light saber started to move in the snow(kind of like the Wampa cave) was anyone else thinking ti was gonna end up in Luke's hand before it turned out to be Rey?
I didn't, and I can already imagine how hyped I would've been if it happened. I was already seeing it was going to go to Rey, so Luke would've blown my mind. The funny thing; Luke/Mark is trying to look so majestic and badass and peaceful in that last scene. I just couldn't take I seriously.
Oh believe me. I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I just(and its seems like I'm not alone here) thought that was gonna be their way of introducing Luke into the film.
Finn is Lando's son. Finn said he was taken from his family. We already know that The Empire and Vadar had a lock on Cloud City and Lando Calrissian. If Lando had any children they most likely would have been taken by the First Order. Finn is going to find out more about himself in episode 8. It is not unlikely it will lead him to cloud city. this is also an environment that allows for more CGI. Clearer JJ didn't want to go with as much as the prequels. A place like clowd city is lends its self to that. If we are comfortable with using some of the old ques from the old movies in Episode 7 then more can be said for whats coming next. John Boyega is from England and speaks the Queen's English yet Finn speaks Ebonics just like his smooth ass father Lando Calrissian. Obi Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn had english accents the rest of the cast had american accents. A lot could have happened to Cloud City over the years. I loved The Force Awakens, but the one thing the prequels did well was the CGI. It was overdose and most of the time the plot was driven by the special effects of the movie. The prequels failed on so many levels, yet the CGI was so ahead of its time thats all people wanted at the time. I understand what they wanted to do after dropping the ball so badly before and scaling back on the special effects. If we go back to Cloud City there can be a more balanced approch by Using a valid plot point which is CGI based. Lando was Han's friend. Finn and Han hit it off right away. Lando was conflicted about what he had done to his friend. If Finn is Lando's son he will be able to tell him about what happened to his friend soon before he is able make his last efforts befor he dies too. Finn said "U don't know what I have seen". So why is everyone assuming that was his first day. he was taken as child how young must he have been to not even remember a name and lose his English accent. There is so much more to learn about Finn.
SPOILER (if needed in a spoiler video comment section) I think Rey is Luke's Daughter and here is why: 1. Rey sees Luke and R2-D2 in the Flashback (possibly Luke hide the map to where he was so that his Daughter (Rey) can find him when she is Ready. Why else would R2 have the map) 2. R2-D2 was inactive since Luke went missing (waiting for Rey) 3. R2 activated himself when Rey was at the Base. What do u guys Think
+Vepar90 unless he is really human and the hologram is just a disguise... Not sure how that would be possible. That being said, no one would see it coming and would make the light VS the dark fight extremely complicated in a good way.
If the rumors of an Anakin force ghost in episode 8 are true, maybe that's how we find out that Snoke is Plagueis. I could be way off, but I think it's entirely possible for it to go down that way.
+Timothy Platte I thought the same thing. Also, it would be very interesting for Anakin to actually communicate with Kylo Ren. Anakin really could have come full circle if he can play a part in bringing his grandson back to the light. There's such a place for Anakin in these sequels and I really hope he turns up.
+GettingBlazedn Geeky Well, Darth Plagueis has never appeared in the films, and the Expanded Universe is no longer canon, so they can do anything they want with Plagueis.
So ...who would you like to play his role? I'd rather Luke bring him back to the light ...by way of a sabre battle between he and Snoke. A kind of a "kill Snoke ...and you have a better chance of saving Kylo" angle. Yet, secretly ....I'd much prefer Luke kicking his ASS, once he has his "feels" about Han being murdered, confirmed by Ray...
This is like the Avengers of Collider...an all star panel wow...first time seeing this...why did this channel drop off so much? RIP in sweaty heaven Schnepp 🙏
Rey's definitely Luke's kid. There's too may parallel to her story and to Luke's story for her NOT to be Luke's daughter. At the beginning, we see that she's living in a fallen AT AT, reminiscent to how Luke uses the tauntaun to survive on Hoth. The fact that Jakku is similar to Tatooine, and Rey was put on Jakku much like Luke was placed on Tatooine, she has the same "wonder-like" personality like Luke She's a gifted pilot, much like Anakin, and her connection to the Force is just as strong. I think Rey's represents what Anakin would've turned out if he were to stay on the Light Side. The story of Star Wars is the story of the Skywalker lineage. It wouldn't make much sense if Rey wasn't Luke's kid.
MikeRotch nah...as strong as she is, he would've try to keep her and train her instead of Ben (Kylo). Now, is she was kidnapped by someone to protect her from Snoke, then I can see it as a possibility.
+MouseCrusader I would be surprised if she wasn't Luke's kid and not in good way, you're right it would make more sense for Rey to be Luke's daughter. However, I think Rey should be Star Wars answer to the Man With No Name, have her background shrouded in mystery until episode 9. Also,if Rey is the daughter of Luke then who exactly was Rey's mother? What if Rey's mother was a Sith? I don't think we've ever seen child of both a Sith and a Jedi before and it would make Star Wars lineage very different from what we've seen before.
+MouseCrusader I agree with Mark though that them making it so obvious might be a way to mislead us and turns out she is not Luke's kid. Aside from that her being Luke's daughter has a higher chance I think.
+MouseCrusader , Lukes Theme played when she called the lightsaber to her hand. Luke had Tears in his eyes when he saw her. I agree there is too many hints at it.
What if Rey was actually Luke's student who was turning to the dark side so Luke dropped took her away and swiped her mind. Ben Solo then turned to Snoke to continue his training; as he was good student who survived. Just a thought. im probably wrong lol. casual star wars fan
+Fahid Choudry OMG finally someone who has the same thought as me! After watching this movie 3 times, I am also convinced that Rey is the Luke's student who killed all his students and Ben Solo was the one who escaped. I mean Kylo Ren has so much emotion struggles being a Sith, how could he be the one who slaughtered Luke's students? In Rey's flashback, the person who killed Luke's students was not holding Kylo Ren's lightsaber. It could be Rey and that totally explains why Luke altered her memory.
Also might explain when Rey closes her eyes she is getting her memories back from the limited training she received and the force that has been bottling inside her and waiting to "awaken". I have only seen the movie once and I am only a casual fan but this is the first theory that came to my mind. Rey was my favorite thing about the Force Awakens, especially her emotional outbursts. I want to see Kylo Ren struggle to keep the light side out and Rey struggle to keep the dark side out. I also wonder what happen to the people Rey was left with. Could she have killed them and then lived in loneliness. That loneliness and struggle then kept her "clean" and "humble". Also could help explain the slow and reserved reaction from Luke at the end of the film. Also, Reys reluctance to take up the light saber as well as her strength.
Fahid Choudry Wow, the idea of Kylo Ren struggling light side and Rey struggling Dark Side is absolutely amazing. I would be very disappointed if Disney shoved us down 'Rey is Luke's daughter' to explain everything.
+Fahid Choudry reserved reaction? Luke was clearly pissed to she her, and part of it might be cause of the grave he was standing over. Did she kill someone close to him that is buried there?
I think there is more to the Han Solo death scene and Leia's reaction to it than we were told in this movie. I got a distinct feeling that Han knew he would not get out of this one alive, and that his talk with Leia was just both of them keeping up appearances, when they both knew this was a one way ticket for Han. I'll even take it one further and say that I don't think Kylo/Ben killing Han was as obvious as you think - I actually think that Han let or even helped Ben kill him, possibly believing that in the long run it would factor in his son's salvation.
It mirrored Obi Wans death at the hands of Vader. One thing was different though. After he was stabbed the last thing Han did was lovingly caress his sins face before he died.
+mreime I feel as if Han had given up hope but because Leia feels there's still good in him Han feels obligated to try one last time even though he doesn't believe it'll do any help because he feels he owes that to Leia.
+PlumbPitiful yes, if anything, that moment might come back to haunt Kylo in the future! The feeling that he was loved by his father and by that being "tempted by the light side"
I really enjoyed this commentary I'm it about to turn 46, I'm lifetime fan, so hearing guys talk with such interest and passion about star wars really helps me feel not alone. LSO, hearing this review 16 months after the movie was released is LSO very interesting. Thanks for the movie commentary's, you have given me a new way to enjoy them which is great cause I'm sure I've seen each one thousands of times
One thing that everyone is missing, these movies are the still the Skywalker Saga, it would make no sense to make her so powerful and important and not be a Skywalker.
+michael robinson Unless she's a Kenobi :D!! It makes no sense and its probably not the case but i really really want it to be true. I wanna see a Kenobi trained Skywalker, train a Kenobi to fight another Skywalker. its Poetry, kinda.
she could become a Skywalker thru "adoption". If she's not biologically a Skywalker and her parents never come back, then Luke would become her Dad in essence, and Leah like an Aunt. Skywalkers don't all have to be biological offspring.
+Saphiria TheBlueDragonKnight Ya. That would be different. I'm still kinda leaning to unknown parents. It would give the message of "it doesn't matter where you come from" and it would also save us from extra exposition about her past and any potential nitpicks about any "I am your father" type reveals, or more paralleling the OT.
Kylo Ren is by far one of the most interesting characters in the franchise. When Rey says something like, "you are afraid of never being as good as Darth Vader" This also has a metalinguistic power. It's the franchise talking to itself. Doubting of itself. Kylo Ren represents the new movies and Darth Vader, the original movies. The Kylo Ren's doubt is the same that surround the ability of Star Wars to renew itself. JJ Abrams probably predicted this discussion. This means that Kylo is a deliberately unstable and conflicting character. JJ has a huge respect for the original trilogy and for the saga itself! Thank you, man!!
I cannot believe John didn't like the death of Han Solo.To me it is easily the best scene in the movie and probably the entire franchise.I loved that there were no previous encounters between Han and Kylo.Kylo knows that he'll eventually have to face his father,it's something he's dreading throughout the movie and Han & Leia also know that they too will eventually have to face their son so it makes perfect sense that they have a singular powerful interaction. The movie copy and pastes a lot from the original trilogy and we're constantly reminded throughout the movie that Kylo was born in the light and was taken to the dark side, that there is still light inside of him just like Darth Vadar and so i assumed that just like Vadar,Kylo would be made to see the light (especially after Leia told Han that you're his father and only you can bring him back) and he would either become a good guy or die a martyr's death. The audience and Han Solo himself are confident that they can talk some sense into Kylo Ren.This is what makes the scene even more powerful.Kylo says that he's being torn apart between the light and dark side and that there's one thing he needs of his father to end this struggle.Han and we assume that he wants to be pulled towards the light but by killing Han,he severs the only thread pulling him towards the light and he has now fully embraced the dark side. This is what makes Kylo Ren an even more dangerous villain than Darth Vadar. Both were born in the light and were seduced by the dark side and both struggled between the two sides but where Darth chose the light and saved his family,Kylo killed his family and chose the dark side.It is in that moment that Kylo goes from a Darth Vadar wannabe to someone even more dangerous. The entire scene was handled so beautifully and it's such an important scene for both Han and Kylo, for me that scene justified the death of my favorite character in the series because his death was not just a shock element but something that evolved the antagonist.
I really like what you said but in some other comment somebody said (theory) that Luke got somebody pregnant with Rey but Luke didn't know he did and the woman left Rey on that sand planet, that's why Luke's reaction was like it was at the end of the movie. These two can still go together and then maybe Luke told the women to leave Rey on the sand planet and after she left Ray there Kylo killed her and Luke didn't know if she left Rey or not so he thought that Rey might be dead, that would explain Luke's reaction.
This was a Great Film 9/10 Great Acting, witty dialogue, Great Jokes, Rey is not a Marry Sue (none of u know what that means). Also if u paid attention they list off what they did not like in this review. Captain Phasma (under used) some of the CGI like the Monsters in Hans Ship. Death of Han (John) the under used of Max Von Sydow Blowing up the Planets Names of the planets And so forth... Daniel Collins this means u need read up on that and look at the History Of Literature. There are Characters before the term was coined; that they were able to do a lot of stuff without a lot of explanation. Then someone else is able to do more then them and it is mainly the bad guy (not all the time). Even in film. Its only because of the fan-fiction. So Daniel Collins read a book or two and watch some old films and u see this is nothing different. Also this is the FIRST of THREE movies. Here are some Ex James Bond film/book depends who playing bond, but Casino Royale is ex(book) (love the film and book), Sara Crewe (A Little Princess). Charles Wallace Murry (A Wrinkle in Time.) Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation (better in the 3rd season). Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis (fav Character.) Bella Swan from the Twilight (hate this character and books/films to.)And so forth....... For the Dumb Idiots who say this is plagiarism, this was a homage here is the definition - honor, acclaim, applaud, salute, praise, commend, pay tribute to, take one's hat off to; to the Original trilogy. This was for the new fans of Star Wars to get that feel of New Hope. This WAS NOT A RIP OFF. Deep down u love the film, and u know u do to. Also Darth Bane in the Legends also used the Force without knowing it.
Was I the only one that felt really depressed when Kylo killed Solo? I felt like my childhood was literally murdered before my eyes. I can understand that they felt the need to do this to make a stronger story, but I don't think it had to be so soon like this. I had massive goosebumps when Solo and everyone else was looking up at skies and seeing the destruction of several planets at once. It was like "Evil has returned to the galaxy, and we all gotta do our part to stop it" Above all.. it was an incredible movie. I kept crying when I saw it. Epic to the core.
At the end of TFA when Luke turns around to face Ray and pulls down his hood, I couldn't keep from laughing. He looks just like Oliver Reed in Gladiator.
My theory: 1. rey is luke's daughter 2. luke does not know that he has a daughter (luke got a girl pregnant and she kept it a secret from him, kind of like how darth vader didnt know about his daughter for a long time)
+Zbigniew Zabinski i agree with this. this explains why luke didnt give her such a warm greeting at the end like a father would. also, so many things point to this. - her seeing luke in her flashback - her vision when going to sleep every night: an island surrounded by vast ocean (the location of luke) - maz kanata knowing her eyes - the lightsaber calling to her (a skywalker) - her growing up on a desert planet/being a good pilot - why she is so strong with the force
+Zbigniew Zabinski good points. i just think that she has to be a skywalker. the star wars movies have always focused on the skywalkers and i think that the continuity is essential to the storyline. If rey is a skywalker it immediately brings so much power and legend to her character. There is so much history to the lineage, it needs to continue (in another way besides kylo ren). if she is not a skywalker i will be extremely disappointed and saddened
+Zbigniew Zabinski how would she know luke and feel so connected with him if she wasn't his daughter (she saw him in her force vision when she picked up the lightsaber) maz kanata seems to know that she's his daughter
+Zbigniew Zabinski plus, think back to the original teaser trailer where it just has look saying: "the force is strong in my family... i have it.. my sister have it.. you have that power too"..... i think that's proof that she's his daughter right there, before you ever see the movie. if she isn't i have no idea why they would do that. it just seems like a poor way to deceive you if in fact she isn't his daughter.
+Jayrayis Yasidals Okay here is my take on this whole thing. I will try to do this in order so it makes sense to everyone. I hope it does. I am sorry if it does not because it is kinda complicated. First. In Mas Kanata's bar, at the table, Finn talks about running and walks away. Rey gets up and goes after him. Now right after that Mas leans over and says to Han "Who's the girl?" and the inflection in her voice is not out of curiosity because she's cute but as if to say - "Is she who I think she is?" Then the scene cuts immediately to Finn and Rey. It is what is not said that is most interesting. Han doesn't say "She's just some girl we found." there is NO response from Han to that question at all in fact. During the scene where Finn is revealing to Rey who he really is, enough time elapses for Han to say something along the lines of "She is Rey, the daughter of Luke Skywalker." to which Maz would say something like "Then the time has come" and Han would reply "She doesn't know who she is" and I could see Maz replying "Then we must open her eyes". I do not think the sabre actually gave her the vision and here is why. I believe that it was Maz, right after that unseen exchange with Han, that made her hear the sound of the kid downstairs. It was Maz that put the vision in her head because right after the vision ends Maz is behind her. She even says "I am no Jedi but I know the force.." Now Star wars has always been told in two ways. The dialogue, and the music. Key characters have always had very specific themes. Vader had the Imperial March, Liea's theme is obvious, as is Luke's. They played Lukes theme when Maz was telling her about the light in her. That theme also plays towards the end when Rey pulls the lightsabre to her and ignites it. John Williams being the genius he is would have given her a unique theme of her own if she were not the daughter of Luke. Lastly her name. I would not put it past Lawrence and JJ to go even deeper into the hidden meaning there. Ep. IV was titled "A New Hope." Luke was the "New Hope" and Rey (Pronounced "Ray") could be considered a "Ray of Hope". I may be reaching on this one but it sounds cool. Oh and speaking of the music score. In order to also settle the issue of who Snoke is. Go back and look at the scene in Ep. III where Palpatine tells Anakin the Story of Darth Plagieus. There is a Theme being played it is a low choir going AWWWWWWW etc. Now when we see Snoke we hear that same theme or a very very similar one. SO I have no doubt based that, that Snoke is Plagieus. I guess all my years studying film making has paid off. lol Maybe I could be on the Collider Jedi Council. lol jk.
Maybe Leia didn't react the way you expected someone to react when the love of their life dies because he didn't die... or she's unsure if he actually died because she has the force but doesn't practice it as the Jedi do.... or maybe you're right and she's a little rusty with her acting abilities.
As much as I liked this movie, I just can't get behind Domhall Gleeson's Hux character. He tried too hard to be Tarkin/Hitler and it was too over the top for me, almost comical.
+Raffaele Esposito I've never seen him as a particularly good actor though. He was dreadful in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and I wasn't feeling very convinced by him in this either. His speech was good though, and gave me chills slightly. It was pretty evil.
I've seen the movie 3 times and I can't get this out of my head. Did anyone else hear Obi Wan say Rey's name in her Force vision? It's right as she sees the forest. It sounds so much like they were going for a voice like Obi Wan's to me.
I just got my answers thanks to Star Wars News Net. They used Ewan McGregor and an old recording of Alec Guinness for that sequence. www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2015/12/j-j-abrams-lawrence-kasdan-and-michael-arndt-reveal-new-secrets-about-the-force-awakens.html
+Ryne Sypowicz I've seen it twice now and i noticed that the second time, good find man didn't think to research it myself. all signs pointing to her being a Skywalker in my opinion, really hope she is!
+Ryne Sypowicz I`ve watched it twice now and let me just get it out of the way, the scene where she finds the light saber gave me a serious case of chills down my spine. I have to pay close attention next time, but I did not remember hearing Kenobi`s voice during the visions, but I`m pretty sure that the first corridor is from Empire when Luke confronts Vader on Cloud City. As to who Rey`s parents are, I`m pretty convinced she`s not Kylo Ren`s brother and I`m still not sure she`s Luke`s daughter either. There are signs pointing in that direction of course, but I do think that she has some connection to Luke either through her real parents and that she was left on Jakku to keep her safe from the First Order.
My favorite part of the movie was when Rey finds Luke and then she shows him his lightsaber, and the Luke can tell the type of journey she was on. I LOVED THAT MOVIE ! And I loved that movie SO much, that I'm going to see it again on Christmas Day!❤❤❤❤❤
The irony with this movie is that we all thought they were being coy and hiding so much in the trailer but then after watching the film I realized there wasn't many big reveals. We still have no confirmation who Rey is. No idea who the knights of Ren are. No idea who Snoke is. No idea how the First Order and Resistance rank in terms of structure of the government. No idea what's been going on with Luke. Fans have waited more than 30 years to go on another adventure with Luke Skywalker and Lucas Film basically gave everyone the middle finger and said you can keep waiting.
Gave the middle finger ? Really ?? What are they suppose to do, watch mark and Carrie and Harrison walking with canes !!! This has to be about passing the torch and setting up the next infinite amount of films. Sorry , very much disagree with your assessment
I'm confused so is Snoke Darth Plagueis or not? Hes facial features look very similar to the race that he is. And i bet that they made his face just so that it looks similar enough to that so that we could speculate more.
+8bit chess I think he is palpatine. If he isn't palpatine, I would bet he is a S.ith N.o O.ne K.nows E.xisted. But I would put money on it being Palpatine or that Sidious/Palpatine/Plagueis are the same person. Sith, after all, are deceivers.
I wonder if Gwen Christie during interviews felt a bit awkward knowing how little she does in the movie. She had had less impact on the plot than that stormtrooper who got mind controlled! Where are HIS interviews?!
+superhamzah85 Obviously that stormtrooper was none other than JAMES BOND. OO7 BETTER GET A MEMORABLE ROLE. But I have to add I really wish Danish Craig got to fire the blaster on screen as well COME ON THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO COOL seeing JB007 fire his blaster at HAN SOLO. Considering how Sean Connery got to be in a indy movie it just would have been show stopper moment to have bond in another iconic Harrison movie.
+superhamzah85 I think she is suppose to be the new Boba Fett but this time they are going to do this type of character justice in the upcoming VIII. I think we are going to see why exactly she is the captain of the stormtroopers and why she was so feared by Finn and the rest. Honestly though, I think her complying so easily to their demands was because of a Wookie standing over her who everyone knows one-on-one kills anybody not a Jedi/Sith.
22:26 - I'm surprise John would be saying that they can't have Rey as the child of the Skywalker bloodline. 1) If you are going to stay true to George Lucas' original intention; Isn't Star Wars ultimately an expression of Joseph Campbell, Mono-mythism? The idea that history repeats itself over successive generations, telling the same story in various but similar ways? 2) Isn't the Star Wars story ultimately a story about the Skywalker family?
I loved this movie. The ONLY thing that bothered me was the change in sound of Anakin/Luke's lightsaber. It was really only the "ignition" sound that changed, but why? The sounds of the lightsaber are the most classic in all if cinema. Why change that?
Well first of all you got to remember that light saber is very old now. So it's going to have a bit more of a kick when it ignites. Also the second thing is they had to update all of the sounds for modern home theater and movie theater sound systems. Also I think JJ Abrams was going for a more futuristic feel for this movie because if you notice those are not the only sounds that are different. Like for example the tie fighter is a whole heck of a lot louder now and the millennium falcon has a much deeper rumble than it used to. Even the laser blaster sound a little bit more modern day-ish and less like the original Star Wars blaster sounds. But I'm pretty satisfied with the changes because they still sort of sound like the originals, but they have enough of a future assume about them that makes them sort of modern-day sounding.
this movie was very gay. the best movie in this series was the first one. back then, men characters were manly unlike in this movie where guys were gay.
+Ryfir 2203 you fell for the marketting jive like the little gullible kid that you are. that movie had zero grams of creative work. the marysue character was dull. great body though. Han Solo was pathetic. and the gay black trooper pretty stupid. i wonder why the african american activists don't complain.
+Don John They could have rebooted the look of what a muun is supposed to look like. I don't know. If he's Plaguies, maybe he's not Muun anymore in this canon. Don't know.
+geromino97 If it's Plagueis the likes of him actually sleeping there when Sidious tried to kill them are very minor. I mean he would know what he was doing and wouldn't risk his life.
I like this idea. Only problem I would have is that is would take away from the impact of killing Han. That was the point where he became fully dark because he killed his own family. But if he killed Luke's wife then that means he's already killed a relative. Nonetheless a good theory.
Great video guys... too many things to comment on so I will limit myself to one point I think you were wrong on: Carrie Fisher acted amazingly! Her Leia in Eprisode VII was everything and more I wanted her to be and act. Her acting was extremly elegant and refined. I have seen the movie twice by now. Going in tomorrow again for the third time... pay attention to her subtle movements. She kept it so poised and noble! The queen of England would have kept it together too if her husband died... its a lifetime of restraint and "bon-ton" educate nobles receive. Her eyes speek volumes about her pain! anyway. Love you guys. cheers and may the force be with you!
Also, I thought the dialogue between Leia and Solo when they're discussing their son, was pretty bad. It was so obviously expositional. The scene felt like they were talking to the audience for people who forgot what was going on. I thought it was an unnecessary conversation
nobody is talking about the John williams score. I felt it was so disappointing. Not memorable. no impact. Sometimes i even forgot that is was even on.
+David Nobre Then turn your brain and ears on. Poe's theme is playing every time he's on screen: heroic horn anthem. Rey's Theme is literally everywhere in long woodwind-led phrases, The Resistance now has a march, plus the old themes were reprised beautifully.
+David Nobre I blame the way over the top sound effects and the incredible action scenes, especially in 3d. I was so fixed on that aspect of the movie that the music was just pressed to the background, and not any fault of the music. just how the experience felt to me.
I see what you mean qpopuiuzmnmb. I have been listening to the soundtrack and i can appreciate what you are saying. Maybe they don't resonate as much to me as the old themes. The old ones feel more defined and stronger.
What a GREAT video guys! The only thing I'd disagree with is Campea's comments about Solo's death. I still felt overwhelming emotional *because* Han and Kylo had that little physical struggle with the light saber. Han started to take it and then the look on his face was, "Oh shit... this isn't good." It maybe seemed subtle, but watching it a couple times (me) I think it was very poignant. Keep on keepin' on guys - you're all amazing!
I have to get one thing of my chest. I liked the movie I, I really did, but in a way I feel it was lazy filmmaking. Playing it safe. We know of some of the problems star wars fans have with the prequels. All of a sudden. Yet this was a new hope all over again. Just in the future. Xwing dogfight at the end. A new death star that eats up the sun. Not to mention what happens to the surrounding planets once it eats up there sun? Han is the new Obi wan. Luke is the new Yoda. Kylo and Snart or whatever his name is are the new Vadar and Emperor. It's like what Abrams did with Star Trek in that last movie. Rehash! I'm sort of not complaining but there is alot of keeping it safe. One thing about the prequels, they were a lot less safe. Part of why some people are trashing them. It's just fan service. Show me the same things, just different please! It makes me nervous for episode 8 and 9. Not to mention the undoubtedly numerous spin off money grab movies. I know the original Star Wars is essentially biting off TV serials and movie from the 50s and before but come on. It seems to be a bit close for comfort. I know I'm a bit of a wet blanket. But I don't want to see Empire Strikes Back 2.0.
Regarding Phasma, my personal theory is that she is actually a spy working for the Republic. That would explain her interest in Finn at the beginning and the fact that he was just working in sanitation right up to the point where they go to Jakku. It also explains why she dropped the shields so willingly, and why Han put her in the trash compacter rather than just shooting her (as he would know she was a spy).
I feel like rating this movie is different than eating any other film. As a Star Wars movie, I'll give it a 9.25-9.5, as an action movie in general, 10, even 11 lol. It's on a completely different level altogether.
REWatching this in 2021… the new trilogy has been finished and out for over a year and a half… hearing these guys talk about this film brings me back. Collider had a good thing going back then. Reminds me of simpler times…
I rewatch this every year
Watching this after seeing The Last Jedi is hilarious
Try watching this after seeying RLM The Nerd Crew.😃
@Daniel Rodriguez bruh u re sooooooooooo gado
Watching this and them talking about where is it going to is hilarious after the whole mess of a trilogy ended
Mark Ellis calling the Palpatine connection at 32:15! The best part is how quickly it's passed over in the conversation, because nobody expected that theory to come to fruition. :(
I'm watching this back in 2019, what a special moment in time.
❤️
I need to watch it again. I went out of the movie theater and I couldn't stop smiling. I wanted to go back and watch it again so badly. I love seeing big movies on opening weekend because when you have a good audience watching it with you, it pumps you up even more and makes the viewing experience so fun. The movie has to be good too of course, and THIS freaking broke through my expectations. I tried to stay neutral for so long, and for the longest time I had that tiny thought in the back of my head that it might turn out to be like the prequels. I'm so glad. I can't contain myself right now.
I need...... to get some Force Awakens memorabilia.............
+Anime Fan Now go back and watch the originals and see how much was ripped off.
DID ANYONE ELSE SEE MARK ELLIS DOPPLEGANGER!!! PLEASE!! WAS I THE ONLY ONE LOL!
+Ed Vasquez I noticed that immediately too!
Noticed him... Same eyebrows and everything!
+Ed Vasquez YES THE IRISH GUY
+Ed Vasquez OMFG YES TOTALLY!!!!!!
+Ed Vasquez Haha I had the the exact same thought. I was like "So there's mark's british twin brother I guess?"
I think she had parents and were ditched and raised as a Jedi by Luke...when Ben went dark and started killing Jedis Luke wiped her mind and ditched her
Nevermind...she's totally his daughter
+Couch Tomato ha...Christian bought up "mind wiping" as well
I love how you're in like every comments section like a fan even though you have 250k subs.
Me personally, I love this movie. So many vistas.
Stop doing drugs
when Ben Solo killed Han, Han should have said " I Love You" And Bens reply should have been " I Know "
+Benjamin Moore Brutal, and I love it.
I thought they would but the face touch did the job
+Benjamin Moore
"when Ben Solo killed Han, Han should have said " I Love You" And Bens reply should have been " I Know ""
yes and Ben should have said "I know" Just after the killing blow, it would have moved mountains.
+Benjamin Moore Waiting for your version of the movie.
Daniel Korolev haha yeah! ill be making the special edition with george lucas ;D
one thing you guys missed is leia never meets rae until the end of the film and she hugs her as if she's family or she knows who she is? plus why is rae sent by herself to meet luke and why didn't leia go to meet her brother? doesn't make sense for rae not to be his daughter
also why does she get a flashback of luke and how everything happened when she touches the saber? she must have to have some link to him
+Callum Hibbins Not really... when Luke touched the saber for the first time he didn't get any kind of flash back to his father.
+ColliderVideos yes true but George Lucas isn't doing it now.. that could have been a jj thing.. lol
Also, R2-D2 is in low power mode ever since Luke left but as soon as Rey arrives, R2 powers back up as if he felt the force of Luke?
+ENGLISH REACTIONS and being sooo powerful in the force it makes sense that she is a FULL Skywalker! in my mind Ben solo Is less of a true Skywalker than Rey! I don't think the force was as strong in Leia that Luke! so a direct Skywalker in the strong side just put it over for me that she is Rey Skywalker:)
01:48:13.00 DENIS: "Yes, but are we saying 100%, Han's dead?"
Guys, even if he survived the lightsaber through the chest *and* the 1000 ft fall...THE F&%#ING PLANET BLEW UP, MAN!!!
Stop drinking the blue milk.
*THE PLANET BLEW UP!!!* "The Force doesn't work that way!" :-P
+ThinkHeroPro that would be super lame
+Jacob Heaps-Downing Yes at the very least we will get a flashback or force ghost. i think Luke will commune with him somehow. They were best friends and there was no closure for them.
+Kevin Rubio but...you're saying there's a chance ?
Han knew something about Rey. Maz Kanata bluntly asks Han "So who is the girl?" and then the film cuts out of that conversation. Films do not do that without a purpose.
+Jordan Tyler yeah i noticed that too
+Jordan Tyler Thank you for bringing this up! I was really hoping these guys would mention that!
+Jordan Tyler
Rey is Obi Wans daughter.
His death was telegraphed, but Chewie's response sold the gravity of the situation.
agreed.
couldn't agree more
+Austin Andrews My heart bleeding in pain sold it :,(
+Austin Andrews I was so glad that Chewie got that shot at Kylo.
I loved the scene...telegraphed or not
I was born in 1991, but didn't see A New Hope until around 2001 or so.
+Michael N I was thinking the same thing
+thegame346 I think the same thing happened with Finn. Leading up to Jakku, Finn was the top cadet in his group & Captain Phasma said that he would become an officer with the First Order. Something broke in his conditioning.
I'm going to do a video on this after I see it again tomorrow.
+thegame346 and Finn?
that's a good point. I hope they do they made her like John Cena.
Mark Ellis was IN Star Wars. He was that guy who had beef with Han.
+Temporal Mix Productions Yes he looks just like him.
When Ellis said "I didn't mind the CGI things with tentacles" it's cuz he was there to witness it happen
It's 'cause he lived, 'em, Ted! It's 'cause he lived the Star Wars!
By now everyone should know that wasn't Ellis, right? The actor's name is Brian Vernel.
WRONG. It was Mark Ellis. FACT.
This is why Han should always shoot first.
hahhAHH+Jd Werman
at least he fed that dude to the rythan or whatever lol
nice.
i just saw the movie and the biggest WTF moment I had was when Ray and Princess Leia FINALLY met and they just stared and hugged eachother.......... how come no one else noticed that? isnt this the first time they've seen each other? how do they even know who each other are? everyone just didnt think about that. theres no way Ray could of known she was Princes Leia..
The weidest part about that scene was how she just walked right past chewy.
+WylunCustoms
That's true.
You'd think they would have a moment. Heh.
But why did NO ONE mention how truly Badass it was seeing Kylo force stop the blaster shot mid-flight?!?! That was epically AWESOME!
+Andrés Vélez Wasn't able to spot that fast enough
+Taozen Ki LOVED THAT SCENE!
+Taozen Ki I love the fact how he did it so non-nonchalantly. Pretty awesome!
+Taozen Ki Yeah but why is Kylo so OP? What about him makes him so special? Is it that he is Leia's son? Or is it something bigger?
+Ch3 j0 some people can react in ways that can trick a Force user, even with blaster shots (AKA Jango Fett in the Clone Wars. Jango was known to be able to kill Jedi even with blaster pistols, simply because he could react in ways that weren't predictable to Force users. So Chewie probably going crazy over Han dying was too much for him to predict possibly, and Chewie was able to get through his defenses.)
Mark Ellis called it from Day 1! 32:18
I miss this crew together
🍻 cheers
yeah, me too
Did anyone else notice that the part of Kylo Ren from the trailer walking in the woods wasn't in the movie? Also the hand off of the lightsabor from maz to the woman's hand.
yup.. the only 2 shots i didnt see that i kinda wished i did but- happens.. didnt spoil my experiences at all so whateves
In all honesty, I couldn't give less of a shit.
+Hayden Burke You're way off.
+David Theriault Also, Kylo is not as trained in the force as Vader
kidkouga
True. But even if he was fully trained.
It's like Han said to Finn, "That's not how the Force works!"
So he pretended to not know Han was there hoping solo wouldn't reveal himself to him
I'm actually SHOCKED that Leia wasn't trained as a Jedi at all. She's obviously Force sensitive. Why would Luke have not taught her a thing or two?
+MagCynic Maybe she didn't want to. But It'll be amazing if in the next episodes there's a moment where she does some amazing Force shit out of nowhere and just YASS
+MagCynic She was using her powers to lead.
Gordon Skyler She's not Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic.
+MagCynic Pf, Rei needed no training for instance.
At the end Leia will realise she has powers too and will defeat Snoke with a fingersnap.
I think next movie is return of the Jedi Order so she and others should be trained then. They kinda set up the need for the Jedi Order after the Republic attack.
I've seen TFA twice now and I love it. For me I think Rey is Luke's daughter. For 1. Anakin, Luke, Rey are all ace pilots, can fix anything, the lightsaber handed down the family line,
the look that Rey gives at the end seems to me a daughter found her long lost father, those are the reasons for me.
I think it's possible that Luke is her dad. But if he is her dad, then they'll have to set it up that he didn't know about her, because otherwise he looks like a total scumbag for just abandoning her completely alone in a barren wasteland.
+Geek Owt Lowd Collider kinda sums it up with the whole protection from kylo ren, it's such a cliche move but I like it though.
Josh Pesek
That's a stretch. Because Luke was well hidden all this time until Rey's adulthood. So she would've been just as safe with him. Or any random place with good guardians.
Like I said... Whether it was for her safety, Luke can't easily be aware of it without looking neglectful.
These were the flaws I had with the film:
(I don't think she's dead, so there's still a chance that we will see more of her in the next 2 films)
+Milton W but she was a master whit the staf so why cant she be use a ligthsaber and Kylo Ren is not full trained but Snoke wil trained him ful now
Nicklas Nielsen again...she is capable enough of fighting off regular people with a staff but a knight of ren? Come on....she just discovered her powers and now she can fight a warrior who has been training since he was a kid...it's bullshit my friend
+pubixcube27 Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Phasma returns in Ep VIII
Yeah I agree rey shouldn't of been able to beat kylo but remember what chewies bowcaster did to a stormtrooper? Sent them flying back 5 meters kylo got one of them In the stomach and still tried to fight ! Next movie will be him smashing the resistance pretty much a spin of empire first order strikes back haha
Rey should not have won that fight. She was too powerful right off the bat.
omg I agree....I felt that fight took me out of the film....mainly because there is no way Rey should have been able to hold her own against a fully trained knight of Ren....she never wielded a light saber in her life and she just began to tap into her powers....there is no effing way she have bested Kylo. JJ dropped the ball on that one.
Blame Feminists
MJ Moallem hahaha that's so great...I almost pissed myself because of your comment lol
+Krush thank you for this, i couldn't remember the voice but I like the idea that its connected
krush. i think the voice of the guy they left Rey with was actually the spare parts dealer that she kept selling stuff to.
+csquare111 it was a human hand that was holding on to her, the spare parts dealer was not human and his hand would take up alot more space in the shot as he was much bigger than a human
+Krush why did Luke not have the same premonition when he touched his Father's light saber?
Sassy one liners and a gold bikini?
lol at great actress. She only known for playing princess leia. You can't name another movie she was a star in
+blackcobra1981 The Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Blues Brothers, plus some TV appearances but yes, she is, like Hamill and Ford, best known for Star Wars. She has also famously fixed a lot of scripts in Hollywood and has written at least three successful novels, along with a one-woman play. She's smart, funny and talented.
+Glenn Crawford supporting roles. She is funny and smart but never had a movie when she was the main star
Luke's the father - there was no mother...
haha, that's perfect
+herbiepop mother might be mara jade
+herbiepop you joke, but that's how it is...
He used the Force
Also, this had (hands down) the best final scene in any Star Wars movie
#Worstdeathever
+sinister kiid
Agreed in all points! Really looking forward to Episode VIII and seeing TFA multiple times in cinema! :)
Finally one month later after vaccation I have finally seen the Movie! I avoided all spoilers YEAH!!!
I did´t know what Snook was, I knew nothing about Phasma or even what weapon they were gonna use.
btw I think Rey is Luke's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.... Which makes them absolutely nothing!
+Martin Zyka Nice Spaceballs reference! xD
Watching this in 2020, great memories with a great crew. I miss this so much.
❤️
Schnepp on the redeeming of Kylo Ren: “He’ll do something like pick up the Emperor and throw him down a pit.”
Fast forward to Episode 9.
The Emperor picks up Kylo and throws him down a pit haha.
Lol so true
The unbiased and unfilitered opinions... AND Mark.
Just saw it.
I'd never thought I see good acting and likable characters in a star wars movie ever again.
And take notes Revenge of the Sith, THAT'S how you do a lightsaber battle.
you're an idiot. It was just another rehash story of A New Hope. It's a complete rip off. You're like the rest of the fanboys, blinded by nostalgia.
+Allan Romero Shakespeare ripped off with abandon. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
+Christian Young TFA should take notes from Revenge of the Sith on a light-saber battle.
+Christian Young The lightsaber battle wasn't good at all,one of the few problems I have with the movie
+Allan your the idiot. Enjoy the movie for what it is
I love the cameos. the stormtrooper that got mind tricked was Daniel Craig.
+Peter Aguilar oh see I read it was the guy that does obiwan in the clone wars. then they replaced him with ewan.
+Noah Cocke By that logic, child of Yoda she might be. Returned, Frank Oz has, to voice a line as well.
It can't be Obi-Wan's cuz he is a true Jedi and "A Jedi knows no love", remember?
***** Nah
i think thats hans death scene was incredible. you're right in that there should have been some previous interaction, perhaps in a flashback, but i think that the lighting (the blue and red split down the middle until the blue goes out and red takes over), the emotion portrayed by ford and driver, i just thought the scene was amazing.
han had a very interesting look on his face, like being reminded of someone who was no longer with them, when he heard Reys name. she is also just like hans (and a skywalker) but with force powers. i wonder if part of kylos fall had to do with love/jealousy over a little girl who was more powerful then him. he specifies 'girl?' more then once, it seems to bring up alarm in him. leia also seems to respond to her in recognition.
also.. when the blew up all the planets, EVERY TIME they charged their weapon, they drained a star. that means TWO solar systems were destroyed each time it was fired.
+April Lord-Brown or rip Tatooine
Been waiting for this
+MigoTheGamer I really needed this review after watching Beyond the trailer.
Lol
The one thing that really makes me think Snoke could be Plagueis is actually John Williams' approach to scoring his scenes. Listen to the track "Snoke" and then listen to Revenge of the Sith's "Palpatine's Teachings"... very evocative of the scene in which Palpatine discusses the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise.
yes,Yes,YES thank you this what I have been saying
That's exactly what I thought as well when I heard "Snoke" it immediately invoked that track from episode 3. John Williams wouldn't have given Snoke that musical cue for nothing. Me thinks Mr. Williams knows more about Snoke than all of us.
We all watch Jedi Council don't we?
+BloodyFlowerFilms Was that connection mentioned on this week's? I haven't watched yet.
I always thought the chorus of low deep voices in that scene in Sith was actually meant to be part of that alien sperm water ballet thing they were watching and not part of the actual soundtrack
Alright here are my speculations/questions having seen the movie 2x now:
+Adam Badass, love it, thanks for that!
+The Driver Part of the fun of Star Wars now is the speculation, I love it when the Collider guys and gals do it
How would you feel if Han is the one who ignited the saber. In killing himself like that, he prevents the complete fall to the Darkside while also protecting him from Snoke's wrath for not killing Han. I really think Han pressed the button on the saber. #hanpressedfirst
That is prevents the fall of Kylo.
Hey you forgot to mention that Mark Ellis was in the movie on the Han Solo cargo ship scene!!! :DDD
+tomisztube haha.. I thought the same thing..
OMG YES I NOTICED THAT TOO!
+tomisztube YES! i noticed that too haha
Star Wars the force awakens was great
Agree !! :D
Good... next ones can be better.
rose yildiz man I did not see the movie yet
oasisbeyond No, it was great, don't be a fuck face
fuckin a, this was the absolute best version of episode 7 we were ever going to get, especially after Disney bought the franchise. that alone put so much pressure on the success of this film that the fact we got something as good as we did is medal-worthy
What are you talking about John? Finn as a storm trooper had melee weapon training with those energy weapon things, and Rey already had melee skills with her staff.
+Jaz Veiga Plus he fought a storm trooper with that weapon earlier in the movie too.
but no storm trooper should give a jedi problems......ever
+thomas cocker And no one fought a real jedi so .... there you go.
Jedi trained.... He was able to hold the pilot in place easy enough with the force
+thomas cocker Why can't a stormtrooper give a jedi problems? it's not like they are useless droids.
No mention of Kylo's cool powers?
Like the epic fact that he's the first character in the entire franchise to stop a blaster bolt in midair?
BloodyFlowerFilms
Or his knock out power he used on Rey or his torture powers...
+BloodyFlowerFilms Vader kind of did, he blocked Han's shots in Empire.
I was going to mention that but Vader didn't stop them in the air but I'm sure Lucas would've changed it to that if TFA didn't do it first.
When that light saber started to move in the snow(kind of like the Wampa cave) was anyone else thinking ti was gonna end up in Luke's hand before it turned out to be Rey?
+JermaineEvent I wish.
+JermaineEvent I am glad it didn't, because Kylo would've been no match at all for Luke. He would not even have needed the saber to defeat him.
SPOILER (if needed in a spoiler video comment section)
I think Rey is Luke's Daughter and here is why:
1. Rey sees Luke and R2-D2 in the Flashback
(possibly Luke hide the map to where he was so that his Daughter (Rey) can find him when she is Ready. Why else would R2 have the map)
2. R2-D2 was inactive since Luke went missing (waiting for Rey)
3. R2 activated himself when Rey was at the Base.
What do u guys Think
That's my big question also, what triggered R2?
I love the theory, but how cool would it be if she was Snoke's daughter XD
+Vepar90 unless he is really human and the hologram is just a disguise... Not sure how that would be possible.
That being said, no one would see it coming and would make the light VS the dark fight extremely complicated in a good way.
im with you also the old guy on jakku maybe had the responsibility cause he had the map for Luke's location
Been saying this since yesterday, glad someone else caught it.
That would be sweet.
+Timothy Platte So they just change Plagueis's spices ??
+GettingBlazedn Geeky Well, Darth Plagueis has never appeared in the films, and the Expanded Universe is no longer canon, so they can do anything they want with Plagueis.
So ...who would you like to play his role?
I'd rather Luke bring him back to the light ...by way of a sabre battle between he and Snoke. A kind of a "kill Snoke ...and you have a better chance of saving Kylo" angle.
Yet, secretly ....I'd much prefer Luke kicking his ASS, once he has his "feels" about Han being murdered, confirmed by Ray...
Hey you! Yeah, *you*. What are you doing scrolling down thi.....oh, right, this is the Spoiler Review. Carry on.
MikeRotch
nah...as strong as she is, he would've try to keep her and train her instead of Ben (Kylo).
+Christian “DisneyFan365” Esmerio You mean his daughter.
Fahid Choudry
Wow, the idea of Kylo Ren struggling light side and Rey struggling Dark Side is absolutely amazing. I would be very disappointed if Disney shoved us down 'Rey is Luke's daughter' to explain everything.
Got to explain where she got the force from. If not Luke, then perhaps from a Sith. Would be a good shout.
+Geek Owt Lowd I'm actually hoping that Luke is Rey's step-dad as that would be a very interesting dynamic.
Kylo Ren is a Skywalker though his mother. But yah, I totally think Rey is also a Skywalker and probably Luke's daughter
Adam Driver was awesome !!
Best reveal was that Daniel Craig was the storm trooper that fell to Rey's JEdi Mind trick
Awesome review. What I missed the most was Han, Luke, and Leia being together. They brought magic to the screen when they were in a scene together.
Ppl o
Dude! Ray looks like Padme... think about it... she takes after her grandmother with looks and her grandfather with the force.
these five guys are the best combination
Carrie Fisher is now one with the Force, and the Force is with her. She is stronger than we could ever imagine. Rest in peace, general.
What if Kylo killed Luke's wife/Rey's mother
I really like what you said but in some other comment somebody said (theory) that Luke got somebody pregnant with Rey but Luke didn't know he did and the woman left Rey on that sand planet, that's why Luke's reaction was like it was at the end of the movie.
These two can still go together and then maybe Luke told the women to leave Rey on the sand planet and after she left Ray there Kylo killed her and Luke didn't know if she left Rey or not so he thought that Rey might be dead, that would explain Luke's reaction.
+CloudDesiigns not a bad theory
+Aaron Kuffel Thanks, yeah it feels like something that could work
What if Kylo IS Rey's mother?
+CloudDesiigns Yeah, but she has a doll that looks like Luke, and she also has Luke's rebellion pilot helmet.
RLM sent me.....this video is so cringe.
This was a Great Film 9/10
Great Acting, witty dialogue, Great Jokes, Rey is not a Marry Sue (none of u know what that means).
Also if u paid attention they list off what they did not like in this review.
Captain Phasma (under used)
some of the CGI like the Monsters in Hans Ship.
Death of Han (John)
the under used of Max Von Sydow
Blowing up the Planets
Names of the planets
And so forth...
For the Dumb Idiots who say this is plagiarism, this was a homage
here is the definition - honor, acclaim, applaud, salute, praise, commend, pay tribute to, take one's hat off to;
to the Original trilogy.
I can't believe some of you think that these good people wouldnt say what they genuinely think about a movie. Especially Star Wars!
At the end of TFA when Luke turns around to face Ray and pulls down his hood, I couldn't keep from laughing. He looks just like Oliver Reed in Gladiator.
My theory:
1. rey is luke's daughter
2. luke does not know that he has a daughter (luke got a girl pregnant and she kept it a secret from him, kind of like how darth vader didnt know about his daughter for a long time)
+Zbigniew Zabinski i agree with this. this explains why luke didnt give her such a warm greeting at the end like a father would. also, so many things point to this.
- her seeing luke in her flashback
- her vision when going to sleep every night: an island surrounded by vast ocean (the location of luke)
- maz kanata knowing her eyes
- the lightsaber calling to her (a skywalker)
- her growing up on a desert planet/being a good pilot
- why she is so strong with the force
She even says "I am no Jedi but I know the force.."
Now Star wars has always been told in two ways.
I guess all my years studying film making has paid off. lol Maybe I could be on the Collider Jedi Council. lol jk.
I still miss Jon Schnepp. He is a legend
here after finishing Acolyte😅
❤
Maybe Leia didn't react the way you expected someone to react when the love of their life dies because he didn't die... or she's unsure if he actually died because she has the force but doesn't practice it as the Jedi do.... or maybe you're right and she's a little rusty with her acting abilities.
As much as I liked this movie, I just can't get behind Domhall Gleeson's Hux character. He tried too hard to be Tarkin/Hitler and it was too over the top for me, almost comical.
I liked him
+Raffaele Esposito I really enjoyed his speech
Well you are wrong
+Raffaele Esposito I've never seen him as a particularly good actor though. He was dreadful in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and I wasn't feeling very convinced by him in this either. His speech was good though, and gave me chills slightly. It was pretty evil.
David James No. He is a fantastic actor.
Yeah I like the subtlety of it and I'm kinda glad we don't know who she is yet. I don't see how she isn't a Skywalker, but who knows.
+Ryne Sypowicz Thank you! I've seen it twice, and I thought I was going crazy hearing Obi Wan both times. Glad it's not just me.
+Steven Davis U NAILED
Gave the middle finger ? Really ??
What are they suppose to do, watch mark and Carrie and Harrison walking with canes !!! This has to be about passing the torch and setting up the next infinite amount of films. Sorry , very much disagree with your assessment
I'm confused so is Snoke Darth Plagueis or not? Hes facial features look very similar to the race that he is.
And i bet that they made his face just so that it looks similar enough to that so that we could speculate more.
We don't know anything about Snoke yet. We won't find out until Episode VIII, or maybe even Episode IX.
J K Hey, that's actually a really cool idea.
J K No. Palpatines master was plagueis. Your theory makes no sense
8bit chess His idea of SNOKE being a Sith No One Knows Exists is pretty slick. The first letter of each word spells SNOKE.
I wonder if Gwen Christie during interviews felt a bit awkward knowing how little she does in the movie.
She had had less impact on the plot than that stormtrooper who got mind controlled! Where are HIS interviews?!
+KRYMauL That stormtrooper was Daniel Craig. Look it up. I'm not lying.
BloodyFlowerFilms I wonder if he got punished, and during his torture scene begged Kylo Ren to scratch his balls.
Well she's signed on for VIII
***** I don't think he smoke anything. It sounds like he had something else in his mouth with all of the "gay" references.
+Ryfir 2203 you fell for the marketting jive like the little gullible kid that you are. that movie had zero grams of creative work. the marysue character was dull. great body though. Han Solo was pathetic. and the gay black trooper pretty stupid. i wonder why the african american activists don't complain.
+Tim Murphy i didn't mean to offend your people. i didn't know you were gay. the movie offended the gay community. i simply pointed it out.
Rest In Peace John Schnepp. We all miss you so much
I get the feeling snoke is gonna turn out to be yoda size
+Brent Perry Little Snokes complex...hence the gigantic hologram projection.
I think he's 7'~, he seriously looks like a Muun, and they're usually above average height.
***** That doesn't make sense…
I have literally been trying very hard to hate this movie for months.
But I just can't.
you make me sick
*****
cause he is a person who will jump on any bandwagon just to feel relevent
If Rey is Luke's daughter, could Luke's wife could have been one of the other apprentices that Kylo killed when he fell to the Dark Side.
Would explain why she wasn't around
+Christian Jones And would explain why Luke wants nothing to do with redeeming him or seeking him out. Not a terrible theory.
I like this idea. Only problem I would have is that is would take away from the impact of killing Han. That was the point where he became fully dark because he killed his own family. But if he killed Luke's wife then that means he's already killed a relative. Nonetheless a good theory.
+rpandya97 Didn't he already kill the other apprentices ? Killing Han was a big deal but it's not like he was a saint before...
+Michel van der Molen Agreed
Did I miss something? How did Kylo Ren, General Hux and Captain Phasma even get off off the planet before it was destroyed?
+Jim Delahunty One of the First Order officers said something like Hux already ran...
+Edward Branscomb thanks, Ill watch for that on second viewing
+Edward Branscomb the next scene was hux talking to snoke.. So I don't think he'd left by then
+Jim Delahunty Majic?,..Cuz there wasn't much force in the movie at all
+Jim Delahunty PLOT TWIST..... they didn´t

It was necessary but could've been handled better
I agree on this one. Leia's line about "It was Snoke.." Etc. was not great
nobody is talking about the John williams score.

I blame the way over the top sound effects and the incredible action scenes, especially in 3d.
That might be one of the reasons Norm Cantoral. A lot happens in two hours.
Maz Kanata* Not Maz Katana. That's driving me nuts.
17:36 Biggest joke ever. They never knew where they were going. They never outlined the whole trilogy. They made shit up as they went along
It's that Star Wars magic they're talking about.
gerberbaby281 same, I really loved the movie
