    Here's my counting:
I'll take it all rotations of the top layer are treated as the same. So let's instead divide the casework into two cases: one where both Cubies are out of the top layer, and the other where at least one Cubie is in the top layer.
Case 1: Neither Cubie in top layer. There are 4 locations and 3 orientations for the corner cubie. There are 4 locations and 2 orientations for the edge cubie. One of these is a solved state, but we'll subtract that off later. This gives us 4 x 3 x 4 x 2 = 96 cases.
Case 2: Some Cubie in top layer. Consider the absolute total number of cases. There are 8 corner locations and 8 edge locations. With 3 and 2 orientations respectively, this gives us a total of 384 permutations. We found that 96 of them have both cubes out of the top layer, which means there are 384 - 96 = 288 permutations where one cube is in the top layer. All we need to do is divide 288 by 4 to account for the four rotations of the top layer, which gives us 72 separate permutations.
When we combine both of these cases, we get 96 + 72 = 168. Subtracting 1 for the solved permutation gives us 167.

Hey, after much of thinking, I found out 167 F2L cases as you mentioned and want to find your opinion. There are altogether 42 cases for F2L (1 which is solved for the correct slot). So, taking 42 cases for one slot and multiplying for 4 slots, we have all total (42*4)=168 cases in which 1 is solved case. Hence, 167 cases of F2L excluding 1 solved case. And also thank you for all your works, it helped a lot.

THIS IS MY THREE WISE MEN DAY GIFT!!! THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!!! I will let you know when I'm finally sub-20
Btw, for the 167 cases, if both the edge and corner are in incorrect slots, we have 3 places for corner and 3 for edge, and for each location there are 2 orientations for edge and 3 for corner, so that's (3*3)*2*3=54.
Now if one of them is in the correct slot (if both are in correct slot then we counted it in the 41 basic cases) then we have 3 places for the corresponding piece, and again, 2 orientations for edge and 3 for corner. This happens twice since we can have corner or edge in correct slot. This adds 2*[(3)*2*3]=36 cases.
    Thus there are 54 + 36 = 90 additional cases to the 77 mentioned.

Good tutorial! I still am not very good at beginners F2L, but I decided to get into advanced early so that I can learn algorithms and get used to them sooner. Thank you so much for the amazing vids!

I think I`ve found a mistake in the PDF
    Section 2B
    Corner in the back slot:
    (R U' R') U (L U L')
    Solution:
    (R U R') U (L U L')

    • @humzam9422

No. You can easily get below a 25 second average with intuitive f2l. Honestly 41 is only necessary for sub 20 and learning all 167 is overkill unless you are a sub 10 second average

Nice work on the PDF. Since you asked for suggestions, I have one for the same case as in this comment. A bit long but quick, easy to see an OLL skip coming, and possibilities to do WV/VLS/Edge control after pairing up:
      (R' D' R) U' (R' D R) U R U R'
It's one of my favorite ways of doing this pair :).

The alg he has is better for the ZBLS he showed, your alg solves a different one where the usual alg is: (F' U F) U2 (R U R').

How would you practice all of these cases for f2l? Is there an f2l trainer that can help?

    • @JPerm
      @JPerm  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

i dont know of any, but i recommend picking a few that are important, starting with section 1 + all the cases i covered in this video.
after many many solves, you'll know when you're comfortable executing them and you can learn a few more.

For the 3rd case on the left of Section 1-A, an alternative algorithm is "(R U R' U'2) (R U R' U') (R U R' U')", which is basically a triple Sexy trigger and easy to be memorized.

Wow, wow, wow! I am wordless to express how brilliant your F2L pdf is! When you think the mechanical intuitive approach is good, this one shows how it is much much better, and you can observe how much progressive it is. It seems like a stepping stone for OLL and PLL, that you can understand how things operate. Whereas OLL and PLL are still too complicated to observe that I can only gurgitate bits by bits, hoping one day they compute like AI in my brain to visualize how things flip around to fit the several aims in one sub sequence.
By the way, I saw your "cross" videos as well, could you also kindly if possible make a pdf like this as well; it seems easy in the face of it, but when to be done in millisecond in one single whole action, that's another level of things. Cheers!😃🥰😍
